  • This research focuses on similarity evaluation of images according to tones of images. Color space of images were converted RGB color space into HSI color space. The information entropy criteria has been taken for evaluating similarity of images for digital library. The similarity was then calculated by combining correlation coefficients and information entropy. Those two values are further analyzed with a relation to human sensibility.

  • Widely used color information recognition methods based on the RGB color model with static fuzzy inference rules have limitations due to the model itself-the detachment of human vision and applicability of limited environment. In this paper, we propose a method that is based on HSI model with new inference process that resembles human vision recognition process. Also, a user can add, delete, update the inference rules in this system. In our method, we design membership intervals with sine, cosine function in H channel and with functions in trigonometric style in S and I channel. The membership degree is computed via interval merging process. Then, the inference rules are applied to the result in order to infer the color information. Our method is proven to be more intuitive and efficient compared with RGB model in experiment.

  • The new generation of nuclear power plants (NPPs) will likely make use of state-of-the-art technologies in many areas of the plant. The analysis, design, and selection of advanced human-system interfaces (HSIs) constitute an important part of power plant engineering. Designers need to consider the new capabilities afforded by these technologies in the context of current regulations and new operational concepts, which is why they need a more rigorous method by which to plan the introduction of advanced HSIs in NPP work areas. Much of current human factors research stops at the user interface and fails to provide a definitive process for integration of end user devices with instrumentation and control and operational concepts. The current lack of a clear definition of HSI technology, including the process for integration, makes characterization and implementation of new and advanced HSIs difficult. This paper describes how new design concepts in the nuclear industry can be analyzed and how HSI technologies associated with new industrial processes might be considered. It also describes a basis for an understanding of human as well as technology characteristics that could be incorporated into a prioritization scheme for technology selection and deployment plans.

  • Narrow-mouth frog (Kaloula borealis) is the only amphibian species of genus Kaloula living in South Korea. They are designated and managed as endangered class II wildlife by the Ministry of Environment, Korea. Therefore, there is a desperate need of a habitat restoration study to prevent the extinction of narrow-mouth frog. This study is primarily for the purpose of presenting the direction and practical applications to restore damaged narrow-mouth frog habitats or to suggest alternative habitat options. The habitat suitability index (HSI) of narrow-mouth frog was applied to the research area in Mokpo City of Jeollanam-do Province, in order to present a new narrow-mouth frog habitat. We analyzed the research area based on historical contexts, ecological environment, ecology, and habitat requirements. The research area was divided into the core, buffer, and transition zones according to UNESCO MAB (Man and Biosphere) to establish local land-use plans. As for the foundation of the plan, we divided the habitat composition of the core, where narrow-mouth frog live in, into wetland (spawning area), grassland (shelter and feeding grounds), and forestland (feeding ground). We had a comparative analysis of habitat suitability in pre and post planning of narrow-mouth frog habitat restoration. For the validation study of habitat restoration plans, the future research should be on the composition of test-bed, continuous monitoring, and scientific habitat maintenance.

  • Some kinds of precision optical systems for spaceborne high resolution cameras were designed at preliminary design level and an optical design for a hyperspectral imager was performed for its development model. A Cassegrain-based catadioptric system and an unobscured reflective triplet system are illustrated in detail for spaceborne high resolution electro optical cameras which have performance of 5m resolution at an altitude of 685km and the design are evaluated in its spot-diagram and MTF to prove they have good performance enough to implement the requirements for realistic satellite payload taking the fabrication conditions and the on-orbit operation into consideration. For the development of hyperspectral imager as a next-generation payload, an optical system has been designed and elaborated. It can be divided into two parts, a catoptric telescope forming an off-axis 2 mirror type and a dispersive spectrometer which comprises collimator, grating and reimaging lens cell. From its optical design to the system characteristics are shown with the MTF performance reaching 25% approximately.

  • The purpose of the Environment Design (ED) for Main Control Room (MCR) of Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is to provide and create an optimal working space to be free from physical, physiological and mental stress as well as environmental discomfort, based on the previous environment design experiences and to recommend the best ED including the color, the lighting and the interior design. Environment Design consists of three main areas: Human factor engineering design, Interior design with color design, and Lighting design. These design areas have been interactively cooperated in a way that each design specialist would share the objectives and concepts of the Environment Design for MCR. The specialists for Human Factors Engineering design had a corporative role in such a way to provide the guidelines for MCR design suitability of Interior and Lighting design considering the Human System Interface (HSI) safety concerns. This paper describes fruitful efforts to create the best fit for MCR ED among several design proposals with the design recommendations, impacts, and contributions to NPP environment.

  • In this study, we propose a method for effectively detecting and recognizing the face in image using RBFNNs pattern classifier and HCbCr-based skin color feature. Skin color detection is computationally rapid and is robust to pattern variation for face detection, however, the objects with similar colors can be mistakenly detected as face. Thus, in order to enhance the accuracy of the skin detection, we take into consideration the combination of the H and CbCr components jointly obtained from both HSI and YCbCr color space. Then, the exact location of the face is found from the candidate region of skin color by detecting the eyes through the Haar-like feature. Finally, the face recognition is performed by using the proposed FCM-based RBFNNs pattern classifier. We show the results as well as computer simulation experiments carried out by using the image database of Cambridge ICPR.

  • This paper describes the method of detecting the region of vehicle number plate in colored car image with number plate. Vehicle number plate region generally shows formula colors in accordance with type of car. According to this, we use the method to combine a color ingredient H of HSI color model and a color ingredient Q of YIQ color model. However, the defect which a total operation time takes much exists if it uses such method. Therefore, in this paper, the concurrent accomplishes a candidate area extraction operation as draw a color H and Q ingredient among steps of extracting a region of vehicle number Plate. After the above step, as a next step in combination with color H and Q we can accomplish an region extraction fast by comparing to candidate regions extracted from each steps not to do a comparison operation to all of image pixel information. We also show implementation results Processed at each steps and compare with extraction time according to image resolutions.

  • Human-induced vibration could present a serious serviceability problem for large-span and/or lightweight floors using the high-strength material. This paper presents the results of heel-drop, jumping, and walking tests on a large-span composite steel rebar truss-reinforced concrete (CSBTRC) floor. The effects of human activities on the floor vibration behavior were investigated considering the parameters of peak acceleration, root-mean-square acceleration, maximum transient vibration value (MTVV), fundamental frequency, and damping ratio. The measured field test data were validated with the finite element and theoretical analysis results. A comprehensive comparison between the test results and current design codes was carried out. Based on the classical plate theory, a rational and simplified formula for determining the fundamental frequency for the CSBTRC floor is derived. Secondly, appropriate coefficients (βrp) correlating the MTVV with peak acceleration are suggested for heel-drop, jumping, and walking excitations. Lastly, the linear oscillator model (LOM) is adopted to establish the governing equations for the human-structure interaction (HSI). The dynamic characteristics of the LOM (sprung mass, equivalent stiffness, and equivalent damping ratio) are determined by comparing the theoretical and experimental acceleration responses. The HSI effect will increase the acceleration response.

  • Due to the fast development in computer application technologies, a video is now being more widely used than ever in many areas. The current information analyzing systems are basically built to process text-based data. Thus, it has little bits Problems when it needs to correctly represent the ambiguity of a video, when it has to process a large amount of comments. or when it lacks the objectivity that the jobs require. We would like to purpose the method that is capable of analyze a large amount of video efficiently. To extract the color, we translate the color from RGB to HSI and use the information that matches with the representative colors. To extract the shape information, we use improved moment invariants(IMI) so that we can solve many problems of histogram intersection.
