  • The proposed LDS(Link-status Dependent Scheduling) algorithm in HR-WPAN(High Rate-Wireless Personal Area Network) up to now aims at doing only throughput elevation of the whole network, when the crucial device is connected with worst-link relatively, throughput of this device becomes aggravation. The proposed the WGS(Worst-case Guaranteed Scheduling) algorithm in this paper guarantees throughput of the device which is connected with worst-link in a certain degree as maintaining throughput of all devices identically even if a link-status changes, decreases delay of the whole network more than current LDS algorithm. Therefore proposed WGS algorithm in this paper will be useful in case of guaranteeing throughput of a device which is connected worst-link in a certain degree in a design of HR-WPAN hereafter.

  • The international standards of high-rate WPAN (Wireless Personal Area network) are under development by IEEE802.15 WPAN TG3 (Task Group 3). The study area of TG3 mainly consists of three parts: high rate physical and media access control layer in 2.4GHz ISM (Industrial Scientific Medical) non licensed frequency band; an alternative high rate physical layer by using UWB (Ultra Wide Band); and another alternative high rate physical layer based on millimeter wave. This paper describes the standardization trends of UWB and millimeter wave.

  • In this paper, we propose the energy efficient transmission parameter selection method for Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) system which is applied to e-Navigation system considering various ship models environment. An appropriate selection of transmission parameters of HR-WPAN system is very essential to be considered for saving WPAN devices' energy consumption, when HR-WPAN system is applied to ship area network (SAN). Therefore, we propose an energy consumption model for a ship area network employing IEEE 802.15.3 based CSMA/CA HR-WPAN model and analyze the effect of transmission parameter selection on the performance of energy consumption. In particular, the path loss is the major performance decision parameter for the SAN employing HR-WPAN system, since it varies according to the material of shipbuilding such as steel(for large ship), FRP(for medium size ship) and compound wood(for small ship). Thus, we analyze and demonstrate that the proper transmission parameter selection of transmit power, PHY data rate and fragment size for each ship model could guarantee energy efficiency.

  • High-rate wireless personal area network (HR-WPAN) has been standardized by the IEEE 802.15.3 task group (TG). To support multimedia services, the IEEE 802.15.3 TG adopts a time-slotted medium access control (MAC) protocol controlled by a central device. In the time division multiple access (TDMA)-based wireless packet networks, the packet scheduling algorithm plays a key role in quality of service (QoS) provisioning for multimedia services. In this paper, we propose an adaptive cross-layer packet scheduling method for the TDMA-based HR-WPAN. Physical channel conditions, MAC protocol, link layer status, random traffic arrival, and QoS requirement are taken into consideration by the proposed packet scheduling method. Performance evaluations are carried out through extensive simulations and significant performance enhancements are observed. Furthermore, the performance of the proposed scheme remains stable regardless of the variable system parameters such as the number of devices (DEVs) and delay bound.

Since the transmission parameter selection is an important factor for WPAN system to decide its energy efficiency, we propose an energy consumption model for ship area network (SAN) employing IEEE 802.15.3 based TDMA HR-WPAN model and analyzes the effect of transmission parameter selection on the performance of energy consumption. • IEEE 802.15.3 High Rate WPAN is a mechanism for wireless home network such as PDAs, digital video camcoder, etc. While symmetric keys are used for MAC layer security, the process of establishing a secure membership or a secure relationship is outside of the scope of the standard. In addition, to prepare for ubiquitous environment in the near future, it is important to study the process of establishing a secure relationship between DEVs in different dependent piconets. This paper propose a secure model and a process of establishing a secure relationship using PKI without a ousted certificate authority.

  • High-Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks (HR-WPANs) in IEEE 802.15.3 standard use a TIme Devision Multiple Access (TDMA) protocol to support isochronous traffic. Isochronous traffic requires a delay-bounded service. However, the HR-WPAN standard suffers from long access delay and association delay. In this paper, we propose an enhanced MAC protocol for the delay-bounded traffic. This proposed protocol provides a way that a central node is able to collect traffic status on all member nodes. Furthermore, by utilizing the information, a scheduling algorithm is also proposed in order to synchronize the instant of a packet transmission with that of the packet arrival. With the proposed protocol and algorithm, the delay of access and association can be reduced. Performance analysis is carried out and the significant performance enhancement is observed.

  • In this paper, an efficient technique for enhancing the QoS of multimedia service for an WiMedia network applying distributed cooperative medium access (D-MAC) protocol is proposed. D-MAC protocol has been proposed to support high-rate Wireless Personal Area Networks (HR-WPANs) by the WiMedia Alliance. Unlike the centralized IEEE 802.15.3 MAC, the D-MAC UWB specified by WiMedia supports all devices to be self-organized and removes the SOP (Simultaneous Operating Piconet) problem, i.e., packet collisions between overlapped piconets in the centralized IEEE 802.15.3 MAC. However the WiMedia D-MAC can't prevent reduce the throughput degradation occurred by mobile nodes with low data rate. Therefore, a distributed cooperative MAC protocol for multi-hop UWB network is proposed in this paper. The proposed technique can intelligently select the transmission path with higher data rate to provide real-time multimedia services with minimum delay, thus enhances QoS of multimedia service.

  • It is very important to provide a parameterized quality of service (QoS) using traffic specification (TSPEC), such as mean data rate, maximum burst size, and peak data rate, when packets from the application layer need to be transmitted with guaranteed services in a high-rate wireless personal area network (HR-WPAN). As medium resources are limited, the optimal medium time required for each device needs to be estimated to share the resources efficiently among devices. This paper proposes a variable-service interval-based resource allocation algorithm to efficiently make a reservation of medium resources based on a parameterized QoS. In other words, the proposed algorithm calculates the number of medium access slots (MASs) based on TSPEC, local resources, and local conditions and determines suitable locations for the MASs within a superframe to accommodate more devices. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can accommodate more devices and has greater than 10% resource allocation efficiency in an HR-WPAN compared to existing schemes.
