  • This study aims to investigate the effect of changes in the Sub ROI on exposure index(EI) and to present indicators of changes in EI values that may occur when changing Sub ROI in clinical practice. This study was conducted on a subject of 20 cm of acrylic for a setting similar to abdominal radiography, and the specifications of one acrylic sheet is 20 × 20 × 5 cm. The survey conditions were the same as 80 kVp , 320 mA, 25 ms, SID 110 cm and the Sub ROI obtained 30 images for each type using five types provided by the equipment company. The EI value provided by the equipment and entrance skin exposure(ESE) were compared and analyzed. The mean value of EI according to the change in Sub ROI was 101.18±0.27 for LS, 106.57±0.31 for AEC, 107.74±0.39 for VR, 107.90±0.38 for HR, and 109.72±0.32 for SS (p<0.01). The average value of ESE by sub ROI type (LS, AEC, VR, HR, SS) was measured to be 476.45±1.71 μGy, 476.92±1.48 μGy, 476.14±2.30 μGy, 475.61±1.96 μGy, and 477.14±1.46 μGy, with statistically significant differences (p<0.01). As a result of this study, the EI according to the sub ROI type is based on LS(109.72), which represents the minimum value. AEC increased 5.3%, VR increased 6.4%, HR increased 6.6%, SS increased 8.4%, and overall, increased by about 5.3%. As for the average value of ESE, HR(475.61 μGy)type showed the minimum value, and based on this, AEC increased 0.27%, VR increased 0.11%, LS increased 0.17%, SS increased 0.32%, and overall, increased by about 0.17%.

  • Aloin is a physiologically active anthraquinone present in aloe. There are two isomers of aloin, aloin A and aloin B, occurring as a mixture of diastereomers. The objective of this study was to determine the bioavailability and tissue distribution of aloin. Rats were gavaged with 11.8g/kg aloin, and the levels of aloin and its conjugates were measured in plasma, tissues, and urine. Plasma aloin level showed a peak at 1hr after the administration and the concentration was $59.07{\pm}10.5\;ng/ml$. The 24 h cumulated urinary aloin was 0.03% of the initial dose. These results suggest that aloin is absorbed and reaches a peak plasma level within 1-1.5 h after the administration and a significant portion is possibly metabolized or is excreted in feces. These results can apply to the determination of the adequate intake level of aloe and aloe products to achieve the desired biological effect, and to interprete in vitro study results.

  • The purposes of the study were to identify the operational characteristics in employee feeding facilities, and to examine the correlations of productivity and these characteristics. A questionnaire was developed and mailed the 500 dietitians in employee feeding facilities in Seoul and Kyoungki Do. Usable questionnaires were received from 117 respondents for a response rate of 23.4%. The questionnaire was designed to determine the productivity index and to investigate the relationship between operational characteristics and productivity index. The questionnaire was contained 2 parts with a total of 16 statements. Data were analyzed for descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis using SPSS/PC programs. The average productivity indices of 117 facilities were 6.91 meals/hr. Total meals served/week was significantly correlated to the productivity index (r=0.441, p < 0.001). No of average servings per meal, percentage of convenience food use, average minutes for service/day, and employment in professional practice of dietitian were also positively correlated, while food cost was negatively correlated to the productivity.

  • Adverse reactions associated with acupuncture are common even in standard practice. The incidence of recorded reactions are various from mild symptoms: tiredness, itching, dizziness or nausea to serious symptoms: pneumothorax, cardiac injury or infection. Recently we experienced one patient, a 36-year-old woman, admitted to the emergency department with chest pain, dyspnea and back pain one hour after acupuncture treatment. The diagnosis was a left-sided pneumothorax by chest PA X-ray and chest HR CT. In this study, we differentiate spontaneous pneumothorax from misunderstood iatrogenic. Further evaluation between adverse effects and similar symptoms is needed.

  • Ethanol fermentation by Scccharomyces cervisiae was carried out in the cell recycle filter system with a cheap fabric filter having a pore size of 10${\mu}$m. Maximum biomass concentrations up to 85g/1 were obtained, but in practice operational concentrations were between 50 and 80g/1. Ethanol productivity was 42g/1-hr, with an ethanol concentration of 66g/1 and an ethanol yield of over 86%. Continuous operation was possible by applying periodic backflushing. The ethanol fermentation could be carried out without difficulty at a dilution rate up to 0.8h-1 In order to obtain a high cell concentration and ethanol productivity, development of filter module with the larger filtration area is required.

  • This study was attempted to investgate the pharmacokinetics of theophylline (4 mg/kg i.v) in the rabbits pretreated with propranolol (1 and 2.5 mg/kg/hr, infusion) for four hours. The plasma concentration and AUC of theophylline were increased in rabbits pretreated with propranolol as compared with those of normal rabbits. The amount of cumulative urinary excretion and renal clearance and total body clearance were decreased in rabbits pretreated with propranolol as compared with those of normal rabbits. The apparent volume of distribution was slightly affected by change of the clearance of theophylline. From the results of this experiment, it is desirable that dosage regimen of theophylline should be adjusted when theophylline combined with propranolol in clinical pharmacy practice.

  • When conducting an exposure assessment, the primary goal of the industrial hygienist is to fully characterize the worker's exposure during a work shift to compare it with an occupational exposure limit. This applies regardless of the duration of the work activity as an activity that is relatively short in duration can still present exposure in excess of the occupational exposure limit even when normalized over an 8-hr shift. This goal, however, is often impeded by the specification of a minimum sample volume in the published sampling method, which may prevent the sample from being collected or submitted for analysis. Removing the specification of minimum sample volume (or adjusting it from a requirement to a recommendation), in contrast, allows for a broader assessment of jobs that consist of short-duration and high-exposure activities and also eliminates the unnecessary practice of running sampling pumps in clean air to collect a specified, minimum volume.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the felling productivity by chain saw in thinning operation of Korean pine (Pinus koraiensis) stands. Time study data were collected from 4 thinning site in Korean pine stands. This study derived a regression model to estimate the average felling cycle time for evaluating the productivity in felling, which was used to analyze the felling productivity by thinning period. In the study sites, the average felling cycle time per a tree was 463 sec/cycle and the productivity was $2.26m^3/hr$. Thinning period in Korean pine is divided into three groups by producing purposes; small-diameter log, medium-diameter log, and large-diameter log. And analyzed working time and productivity from thinning period fixed by producing purposes. For the small-diameter log producing purpose estimated to be thinning period operated once when the mean DBH was 16 cm and its productivity was $8.94m^3/man{\cdot}day$. For the medium-diameter and large-diameter log producing purposes, thinning period was twice and three times when the mean DBH of the 1st and 2nd thinning period was 16 cm and 21 cm, and its productivity was $9.06m^3/man{\cdot}day$ and $10.86m^3/man{\cdot}day$. The 30 cm in DBH and $15.12m^3/man{\cdot}day$ in productivity was operated 3rd thinning for the large-diameter log producing purposes.
