남효온(南孝溫)의 한시(漢詩)를 통해 본 삶의 방식 - 상처와 치유를 중심으로 - (A way of life perceived from the Chinese poem of Nam Hyo-On - Focusing on wound and healing -)

  • This study aims to examine the life of Chugang Nam Hyo-On (1454~1492) from his Chinese poem and to figure out how he overcame and healed his agony and wound. Nam Hyo-On was one of the Saengyuksin who submitted Sureungbokuiso and spent his whole life with alcohol and wandering. Thus, he is known to be a hermit writer or stranger. He had to suffer poverty during his life thanks to his only one choice. He was weak by nature but also feeble mentally as he always worried about death. In his 30s, he regarded himself as an aged man and always worried about death due to his frequent illness. Sometimes, he used to dream of being forever young. He composed self-elegy poem that is about his death, which is the ever first self-elegy poem in our history. He sent it in his letter to his master Kim Jong Jik (1431-1492) in 1489. His agony and motivation of writing such poem can be conjectured from his master's reply and his self-elegy poem. Nam Hyo-On tried to overcome and heal his real discontent and wound from his literary works. And it seems appropriate to regard him that he attempted to get compensation of his limitation and discontent from literature. We sometimes heal our wound by writings (or literature) and by reflecting through such writings. Nam Hyo-On reminded of his beloved person through his poet writing and healed his fear of wound of death.

  • Saccharomyces cerevisiae의 HIS5 유전자는 세균 vector인 pBR 322와 shuttle vector pSH 610에 clone되었고 lactose operon의 promoter로서 발현되었다. HIS5-lac Z fusion은 효모의 제III번 염색체에 integration하였으며 HIS5 유전자는 general amino acid control을 받고 있었다.

  • 본고는 이규보(李奎報)(1168~1241)의 강남 유람 이전 시를 중심으로 그의 내면의식의 양상에 대하여 살펴보고자 하였다. 이규보는 그를 둘러싼 세상의 편견 속에서 삶의 방식을 고민했다. 또한 고립된 자신의 모습을 사물과 경물에 대한 주의 깊은 관찰을 통하여 서정적으로 보여 주었고, 청정(淸靜)한 공간에서 세상과 거리를 두며 순일(純一)한 자신의 내면을 기르고자 하였다. 이규보는 강남을 유람한 뒤 "강남집(江南集)"을 찬(撰)하였으며, 강남 유람 이후에는 구관(求官)을 반복하며 한림원에 보직될 때까지 순탄한지 못한 삶을 살아간다. 여기에서 특이한 점은 이러한 불우한 삶 속에서도 강남 유람 이전 시기와 같이 현실에 대하여 노골적으로 자신의 불우한 감정을 드러내는 경우가 드물다는 점이다. 이것은 광인(狂人)을 자처했던 자신의 삶을 세상에 순응해가는 완곡한 방식으로 전환하려는 조짐이 있었기에 가능한 것이라고 보인다. 즉 이러한 면모가 삶의 전체적인 궤적 안에서 강남 유람 이전 시기가 갖는 의의라고 할 수 있겠다.

필립 로스의 "포트노이씨 병" 연구: 유대적 정체성의 위기 (A study on Philip Roth's fiction: Crisis of Jewish identity)

  • This paper examines the crisis of the protagonist's Jewish identity in Philip Roth's Portnoy's Complaint. Jewish values are centered on the philosophy of Judaism and Jewish history. Judaism is based on an ethical monotheism which is Bible-centered. It is characterized by its covenant with God, its humanism, and its emphasis on moral action. It provides essential reasons for man's existence and stresses human confidence and sufficiency. Jewish values can be found in words such as "good," "humanity," "dignity," "responsibility," and "sense of community." These positive Jewish values pervade Philip Roth's fiction paradoxically. Throughout especially Portnoy's Complaint, the protagonist fails to embrace Jewish values in contrast to Bellow or Malamud's heroes and repeat the same mistakes eliciting fits of laughter from readers. The protagonist suffers from his strongly-felt ethical and altruistic impulses perpetually warring with his extreme sexual longings against which he struggles. His desperation grows as he finds himself unable to channel his dissatisfaction and change his situations. His dominating mother and his confusion over Jewishness and Americanism are the main obstacles to his establishment of self-identity. He attempts to build up his gender identity and Jewish identity through his ego-centric sexual relationship with shikses(female gentiles). His inability to embody Jewish values leads to the failure to fulfill his identity. Roth paradoxically shows that the protagonist's realization of Jewishness is essential to the cure for his fragmented self.

<이춘풍 난봉기>와 <열하일기만보>를 통해 본 손진책의 '마당미학' (Sohn Jin-Chaek's 'Madang' Aesthetics in Playboy Lee Chunpoongjeun and Yulha Ilgyee Manbo)

  • Son Jinchaek got into his directing career since 1976 when he founded the theatre group Minye with Huhgyu and others. His experience in Minye was the turnaround of his life; Huhgyu was a teacher in his artist's life whereas Brecht was a teacher for his ideology to make 'Korean Theatre'. From these two teachers, he learned how and why Korean Theatre should be made. Since then, Korean theatre was his calling for 40 years of his directing career. As he established Michoo in 1986, it served a turning point in his art. His focus was on intrinsic attributes of Korean Theatre with Madang Jungshin. With Madang Jungshin, he tried to get over the former generation's fixation on external materials of Korean traditional theatre and folk culture to make Korean Theatre. Rather, he believed Korean Theatre could be realized when it grafted Korean social reality onto the stage, while the form was subsequent. He advocated Korean Theatre should mirror present social reality and circulate social energy. Also, he did not give up aesthetics. On the contrary, his aesthetic style was conspicuously evident in his productions. In spite of his life long career with noteworthy works, the critical discourses are strikingly scarce especially when compared with other senior and peer directors such as Hugh Gyu, Ahn Minsoo, Oh Taesok, and Lee Yoontaek. During his career he has crossed into various genres from Changeuk, Madangnori, and to theatres, which were too versatile to thread them into a discourse and caused a lack of theoretical greeting. Madangnori has anchored its artistic structure on its polished aesthetics which were acclaimed by the general audience for 30 years. For theatre, he concentrated on one production per year to grasp its own style. Theatre works also had revealed his own style of being opened and of being emptied which was certainly different from Madangnori, but had same aesthetic principle within it. This paper attempts to recompose his stylistic features with 'Madang aesthetics' which were based on open space, open acting style, and graphic ensemble. This paper tries to demonstrate how his 'Madang aesthetics' has refined his productions in scenography, acting style, and in more like metaphoric and metonymic symbolic expression of the graphic ensemble. To do this, two productions were explored: eLee Chunpoongjeun and Yulha Ilgyee Manbo. Madangnori was sorely explored by Son Jinchaek with his artistic colleagues Yoon Munshik, Kim Jongyeup, Kim Sungnyu, music designer Park Buhmhoon, and choreographer Guk Sooho. Though it has been ignored for its popular appeal by the doctrinaire theoretical opinions, it started to pull academic attention recently. His theatres are also getting sharp with his 'Madang aesthetics' as well as minimalistic expression in scenography, acting style, and graphic ensemble. Madang Jungshin is the soul and Madang aesthetics is the body in his artistic works. The Madang Jungshin animates the Madang aesthetics, so they become alive in his theatre.

효모 HIS 5 유전자에 관한 연구 - Saccharomyces cerevisiae HIS 5 유전자의 5' 상류영역의 염기배열 - (Studies on the HIS 5 Gene of Yeast - The nucleotide sequence of 5' upstream region of the HIS 5 Gene of Saccharomyces cerevisiae -)

  • Saccharomyces cerevisiae HIS 5 유전자는 histidinol phosphate aminotransferase (EC: 2, 6, 1,9)를 code하는 아미노산 합성유전자이다. 이 유전자는 plasmid pSH 530에 cloning되어 E. coli와 Saccharomyces cerevisiae 숙주에서 promoter로서 전사하였다. HIS 5 유전자의 총염기 수는 736개이였고 5' 상류영역에는 긴 reading frame, directed repeat, 전사개시점, 그리고 Pribnow box염기배열이 있었다. 특히 HIS 5 유전자의 ATG 주변 염기배열은 -A-A-A-T-T-A-C-A-C-T-A-T-G-G-T-T-T-T-T-G-A-T-였으며 C block은 없었다.

구라마타 시로의 디자인 언어와 실내공간 표현의 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Design Languages of Shiro Kuramata and Characteristics of Interior Design Projects)

  • This study aims to inquire into the expressive characters of Shiro Kuramata's works regarding his design languages. His design languages, based on sentimentality and aesthetics characteristic of the orient and his unique memories and experiences, can be defined as nongravitation, fioatation and transparency. And the definition can be completed by his unique extinguishing technique, eliminating the structure with materials without feature, such as glass and acrylic and expanded metal, steel mash and 'Star piece Terrazzo' a material which he has invented. This study examines Shiro Kuramata's design works from the late 1960's to 1991, the year of his death, the background of his growth and the art and people who have influenced him. It also looks into the indigenous cultural background and his unique memories and experiences. The study also considers his furniture works and interior design to read his languages properties of the materials and expressive techniques. The study presents data on Shiro Kuramata and puts forwards the significance of his works and tries to lead the way of the interior design by application techniques of materials.

정철 시조에 나타난 현실 지향과 풍류의 성격 (A study on the pursuit of reality and elegance expressed in Jungchull's Sijo)

  • 이 논문에서는 정철 시조에 나타난 현실 지향과 풍류의 성격을 논의했다. 정철은 일반 유자들이 가지는 현실지향의 근본적 성격을 바탕에 가지면서도 근기 지역의 기호 사림의 일원으로서 주기적 세계관-을 가짐으로써 더 현실지향성을 가졌고 유년에 행복한 궁중 생활을 체험함으로써 그의 현실 지향은 구체적으로는 궁중 지향으로 나타났다. 시조에서 군주와 단절된 상황일 때에 절대적 지향성을 가지고 단절을 극복하지 위한 갖가지 노력을 했고 자아의 정체성을 역설적으로 드러내어 군주를 향한 절대적 지향의 당위성을 드러냈다. 군주와 관계가 지속되는 상황에서 작자는 궁중에서의 관직 생활을 행복한 추억으로 기억하였고 지방관으로 나가 있을 때에는 현직에 복무하면서도 군주가 있는 궁중 지향을 그치지 않았다. 현실 지향성과 관련하여 자연과 음주는 정철에게 있어 풍류의 중요한 요인이 되었다. 자연과의 관계에서 정철이 군주와 긍정적인 관계를 유지할 때에는 유흥과 호방함의 정서를 드러냈고 군주와 부정적 관계 속에 처했을 때에는 자연을 통하여 자신의 결백함을 드러내거나 자연과 단절된 자신의 모습을 표현했다. 물러나 자연과 친화하며 심성을 연마하고 후진을 양성하던 일반 유자들과는 달랐다. 음주에 있어서 정철은 군주와의 우호적 관계에서는 술을 통하여 여유와 유흥을 주된 내용으로 표현했고 군주와 단절된 상황에서는 고뇌와 근심을 씻기 위하여 통음에 자신을 내맡기는 감성적 행동을 시조에 표현했다. 술을 통하여 고뇌를 이기려는 성향은 그의 스승 김인후 한시나 그의 후배인 신흠의 시조에서도 확인되어 음주 풍류의 한 전통을 형성하고 있었다.

Streptomyces subrutilus P5의 천연 Fe superoxide dismutase와 N-말단 6xHis-태그가 결합된 Fe superoxide dismutase의 활성비교 (Comparison of enzyme activities of the native and N-terminal 6xHis-tagged Fe supreoxide dismutase from Streptomyces subrutilus P5)

  • 본 연구는 Streptomyces subrutilus P5의 천연 Fe superoxide dismutase (FeSOD)와 유전자 재조합 기술로 생산된 6xHis-태그가 결합된 Fe superoxide dismutase (6xHis- FeSOD)의 활성을 비교하여 6xHis-태그의 효소에 대한 영향을 알아보기 위하여 수행되었다. 두 효소 모두 최적 pH는 7로 동일하였으나 6xHis-태그에 의해서 pH 범위는 축소되었다. 천연 효소는 pH 4-9의 범위에서 안정성을 보인 반면 6xHis-FeSOD는 pH 9에서 안정성이 상실되었다. 두 효소의 최적 온도는 차이가 없으나 열 안정성에 있어서는 천연 효소는 $40^{\circ}C$ 이하에서 720분까지 안정성을 유지하였으나 6xHis-FeSOD는 $20^{\circ}C$에서도 360분 이내에 활성을 잃는 것으로 나타났다. $H_2O_2$의 6xHis-FeSOD에 대한 저해는 0.5 mM에서 나타났다. 따라서 6xHis-FeSOD는 효소활성은 유지되더라도 열 안정성이 크게 감소되는 결과를 얻었다. 이것은 6xHis-태그가 활성부위 보다는 단백질 전체 구조에 더 많은 영향을 미친 결과라고 생각되었다.

『잠긴 방』의 아이러니: 자신의 정체성을 탐구하는 전기 작가 (Irony in The Locked Room: A Biographer Searching for His Own Identity)

  • Paul Auster's The Locked Room, the third novel of The New York Trilogy, has been examined by many critics in terms of anti-detective fiction or postmodernism. However, this paper focuses upon how the author adopts and utilizes some key elements of the traditional detective novel and its literary tradition. Mystery storytelling is one of Auster's literary strategies and the theme of the double is another. For his novel Auster explores the theme of the double as in Poe's "William Wilson." In The Locked Room, the narrator "I" is described as a shadow of his childhood friend Fanshawe. After Fanshawe's disappearance "I" becomes a literary agent for his friend, and becomes a husband of his friend's wife and a father of his friend's child. Searching for information to write a biography of his friend, he realizes that his friend has always been living inside his skull condemned to a mystical solitude. When Fanshawe appears in the narrator's mind as an image of the door of a locked room, the locked room is also a metaphor for the closed consciousness of the narrator. In his strategy of mystery storytelling, Auster employs the quest of detective fiction as well as the irony of Oedipus the King, where the criminal pursued by the king turns out to be himself. The Locked Room starts with the mystery of Fanshawe's disappearance, and as the novel develops, the narrator pursues numerous clues about his biographical subject like a private eye. Ironically, however, he finds that the ghost of Fanshawe has always been with him and that this is inevitable. As the narrator resolves to quit his life as a double, he contrives to name a strange man Fanshawe as if he tries to turn his biographical subject into a fictional character in the same way Fanshawe has controlled the narrator like a character in Fanshawe's novel. Beaten by the fictional Fanshawe and recovering from a near-death experience, the narrator prepares for his final showdown with Fanshawe. The transcendence of his existence as a double is epitomized by his act to tear off the red notebook handed to him by Fanshawe, which confusingly delivers a message that a life is doomed to be a failure. The narrator's act to cut off Fanshawe's influence bespeaks his breaking out of his locked consciousness and a new start for his life with his own identity.
