Efficiency Improvement of an Electronic Ballast for HID Lamps (HID 램프용 전자식 안정기의 효율 개선)

  • A high-efficiency electronic ballast for HID lamps is presented. The ballast consists of a PFC and a resonant inverter. To reduce losses of the ballast, DC link voltage should be determined by taking into account the peak voltage of lamp and the maximum flux density should be kept 0.2[T] on all of inductors. AR inductor at bridge diode is employed in order to remove currant harmonics from PFC. An inductor is connected in series with an electrolytic capacitor at DC link to reject high-frequency current. The acoustic resonance is eliminated using the stead spectrum technique. The electronic ballast for 250[W] metal-halide discharge lamp is implemented and 96[%] efficiency, no acoustic resonance and low conducted EMI level are accomplished.

  • 본 논문은 150W HID 램프용 안정기의 공진 점등에 관한 것으로, 기존의 외부 펄스에 의한 점등 시 램프와 안정기의 거리에 따른 점등전압의 감쇠를 감소시키고자 내부 LC를 이용한 공진 점화부로 하여 기능을 향상하였으나, 벅 컨버터의 인덕터와 커패시터로 공진 기동하여 고전압 점등 파형을 만드는 과정 중 스위치 전류가 커지는 문제가 발생하여, 점등을 위한 공진용 커패시터용량을 줄여 공진 Q점을 나눈 별도의 L(T1)과 C(C2, C3)를 공진 탱크로 이용하여 점등하도록 하였으며, 공진 공진주파수로의 주파수 SWEEP 및 재 점등을 하기 위하여 마이크로프로세서를 이용하였다.

  • This paper presents high efficiency control system of automotive 35W electronic ballast for high intensity discharge(HID) lamp using switching flyback converter with variable frequency. Considering performance, size and efficiency of ballast, the flyback converter is designed with planar transformer in converter stage. HID lamp demands a highly efficient ballast and very complex control circuitry that can control complex transient state for applying to automotive. The proposed electronic ballast system is composed of a flyback converter using planar transformer, a full bridge inverter, and a step up igniter. In this system, switching frequency of flyback converter is controlled by varying input voltage of HID ballast and the price and the size of HID ballast using planar transformer can be reduced. The performance and efficiency of the posed system are verified through various the experiment results.

  • 일반적으로 HID 램프용 안정기에는 디지털 제어기를 사용하지 않지만 디지털 제어로 구현하는 경우 여러 가지 이점이 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 DSP를 기반으로 Bridgeless CRM PFC Converter 제어를 디지털로 구현 할 것을 제안하였다. 이때 인덕터 전류 검출을 하지 않기 위하여 DSP 연산에 의해 계산된 온, 오프 시간으로 동작하도록 하였으며, 과도상태 시 출력 전압에 따른 주파수 제한 방법을 통해 안정적인 구동이 가능하도록 하였다. 제안한 방식은 시뮬레이션을 통해 검증하였다.

  • HID 조명램프에 의해 방사되는 전자파를 1GHz에서 2.5GHz 대역에서 측정하였다. 이 대역의 전자파적합성 규격은 정해져 있지 않으나, 각종 전파기기의 장해요인으로 대두될 수있다. 본 측정 결과는 방전등의 특성으로 인해 시간별로 차이가 매우 크게 발생됨을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • In this paper, characteristics of ignition voltage and current by wire length of HID(High Intensity Discharge) lamp circuit are analyzed. In the construction field, decision of the wire thickness for HID lamp circuit has the problems, and these are presented. Through transmit parameters, equivalent model of the ballast and HID lamp circuit was derived. The graph of voltage reduction about length between the ballast and the lamp is shown. The simulation of proposed model and experimental results are presented in order to validate the proposed method. The proposed model and graph can use to choose the proper length of wire between the ballast and the lamp in the field.

  • The electronic ballast for HID lamps needs high ignition voltage which is consisted of high voltage pulse ignitor. However, In the case of street lamp it is far from a lamp to a ballast, the conventional pulsed high voltage ignitor can not turn on the HID lamps because of reduction of ignition voltage. Therefore, it needs to do the research on a resonant ignition to turn on the HID lamps. However, the resonant circuit which is consisted of LC occurs over current, so the capacity of the ignitor increases. The capacity of the ignitor can be reduced by using the transformer. In this case, the capacitor for resonance is installed to the secondary of the transformer, and the capacitor needs high withstanding voltage. Therefore, it needs to do the research on a resonant ignition to reduce the voltage over the resonant capacitor by dividing the secondary of the transformer.

  • It is important to decide the best beneficial lighting system in the space when we design the lighting at first stage. A Worksheet to simplify the evaluation of the economics of the lighting system was developed. And it was applied to a general office room for each lamp and ballast combinations, and to a factory room with a high ceiling for each HID lamp systems. When we design the lighting system using the Worksheet, we can easily evaluate the economics through converting the total cost invested on the lighting system to the present value or the annual cost.
