HFC-134a is currently used as the refrigerant in automobile air-conditioner, replacing the ozone depleting refrigerant CFC-12. Although HFC-l34a has no ozone depletion potential, it has a relatively high global warming potential, approximately 1300 tins that of CO$_2$ over a 100 year time horizon. Therefore, HFC- l34a does not seem to be a perfect alternative refrigerant due to high GWP. For this reason, non-azeotrope refrigerant mixture have been proposed as a long-term and drop-in alternative to HFC-l34a in the automobile air-conditioning system which has variable operating conditions with changes in RPM and pressure ratio. In this study,OS-l2a of which thermodynamic properties are similar to those of HFC-l34a is selected among the mixed refrigerant. HFC-l34a and OS-l2a are examined experimently by the performance test in the same automobile air-conditioning system.
Fire extinguishing efficiency of mixed gaseous agents were investigated by the cup-burner test and predicting by the model of flame extinguishing concentration. The binary mixed agents that tested were carbon dioxide/HFC-23, carbon dioxide/HCFC-22, carbon dioxide/HFC-227ea, carbon dioxide/HFC-125, carbon dioxide/FIC-13I1, Hexafluoropropylene/HFC-23 and ternary mixed agents were carbon dioxide/HFC-23/HFC-l34a, carbon dioxide/HFC-23/HFC-227ea, carbon dioxide/HFC-23/HFC-125. A model which contains the flame extinguishing concentration and composition of pure components predicted the flame extinguishing concentration of mixture well. This model was superior when each component of the mixture exhibit physical fire extinguishing performance.

Systematic methods to calculate thermodynamic properties of carbon dioxide, HFC-l34a and HCFC-22 are presented. First, application of a basic method to identify the saturation state with given temperature or pressure is attempted and the feasibility of auxiliary equations is tested. Next, detailed procedures are suggested to tell a phase when temperature/pressure and another property are specified. Finally Newton-Raphson method is applied to calculate unknown thermodynamic properties fixing the state with the two independent properties specified. The procedures described here are utilized to develop a computer program, which is used to find the relation between temperature and pressure with maximum isobaric heat capacity for super-critical carbon dioxide.
A centrifugal compressor for HFC-l34a has been newly designed and developed. Flow analysis using commertial programs was used to evaluate performance and internal flow of the impeller, inlet guide vane and diffuser etc. and design software was developed. The compressor for HFC-l34a was also investigated experimentally to check compression performance. The calculated data coincide the test results of compressor. The data obtained in the present study are useful for design of HFC-l34a centrifugal compressors.

Analytical study on the thermodynamical cyclic behabiour and characteristics of HFC-l34a refrigerant for automotive air conditionser system for the replacement of existing CFC-12 has been carried out in this paper through development of system performance simulation program, expecially in the view point of system design considerations. The results indicate that HFC-l34a system will give a greater refrigerating capacity than CFC-12 if appropriate engineering measures such as proper codensers, flow controllers, etc., taken for certain operating conditions. The results, however, also show that the operating power for compression process increases over entire temperature range as a result of decreasing volumetric efficiency due to larger specific volume and increased discharging pressure. The present study results indicate that proper selection of condensing and evaporating temperature plus refrigerant control is very important performance factor to have better COP in the HFC-134a system design.

In these days, environmental concerns have been increased throughout the industry and community worldwide. To prevent the ozone depletion, ozone depletion potential of a refrigerant must be zero. Simultaneously, a refrigerant with low GWP (global warming potential) is very demanding to induce green house effect. Chlorine-free HFC-l34a is a refrigerant widely used for automotive air-conditioning system because its destruction potential is ecologically zero. Although HFC-l34a has no ozone depletion potential, its global warming potential is so high that it is not considered as a perfect alternative refrigerant that is acceptable for long-term use. In this paper, experimental measurement has been carried out to analyze the performance characteristics of automotive air-conditioning system using HFC-152a, which has low GWP and zero ODP. Also mixed refrigerant that is composed of HFC-152a and $CF_3$ was applied to investigate an alternative possibility for the automotive airconditioning system. As a result of this study, we could draw following conclusions; With respect to the variation of the rotational speed of compressor, outside air temperature and flow rate, the heat amount of evaporator and compressor and performance coefficient was varied.
Bromotrifluoromethane(halon-1301) and bromochlorodifluoromethane(halon-1211) have been widely used as a clean fire extinguishing agents due to their outstanding properties. However, production and use of halon are currently being phased out under an international agreements Montreal Protocol because of global environmental concerns and HFCs have been considered as promising alter-natives for the replacement of halon since their ozone depletion potentials are low. The vapor-liquid equilibrium data are required as important basic information in evaluating the solubility of clean fire extinguishing agents and determining their optimal compositions. In this work, we chose HFCs such as HFC-22 HFC-125, and HFC-l34a for gaseous fire extinguishing agents and nitrogen as a pressurization gas for a proper jet velocity of these agents. Phase equilibria for binary mixtures of nitrogen/HFC-22, nitrogen/HFC-125, and nitrogen/HFC-l34a were measured in the temperature range from 283.15K to 303.15K. For equilibrium measurement, we used a circulation type apparatus in which both vapor and liquid phases were continuously recirculated. The experimental data were relatively well correlated with the Peng-Robinson equation of state with Wong-Sandier mixing rules.

To prevent green house effect and destruction of an ozone layer, an ozone destruction potential(OBP) must be zero and a refrigerant for low global warming potential(GWP) is needed. HFC-l34a, in which hydrogen is mixed instead of chlorine is a refrigerant used for automobile conditioners and its destruction potential is ecologically zero. However, it is not consid- ered as a perfect substitutive refrigerant as its GWP is high. It is studied refrigerant mixtures in which HFC-l52a and $CF_3 I$ in HFC-l52a with low GWP and zero ODP are mixed by experimentally and concluded as follows: 1) With the variation of speed of compressor outside temperature and flow rate, 7he heat of evaporator and compressor and coefficient of perfor- mance was varied, and influenced the air conditioner. 2) The pressure of evaporator was decreased with increasing the speed of compressor and the pressure of evaporator with the refrigerant HFC-l52a was higher 24% than that of azotrope refrigerant mixed with $CF_3 I$

In this study, condensation heat transfer coefficients(HTCs) of a plain tube, low fin tube, and Turbo-C enhanced tube for CFC-11, HCFC-123, CFC-12, HFC-l34a are measured and compared against each other. All data are taken at the vapor temperature of 39$^{\circ}C$ with a wall subcooling temperature 3~8$^{\circ}C$. Test results show that HTCs of a low vapor pressure refrigerant, HFC-123, for a plain, low fin, and Turbo-C tubes are 10.5~20.5%, 8.2~12.2%, 16.5~19.2% lower than those of CFC-11, respectively. On the other hand, HTCs of a medium vapor refrigerant, HFC-l34a, for a plain, low fin, and Turbo-C tubes are 20.6~31.8%, 0.0~8.0%, 13.2~20.9% higher than those of CFC-12, respectively. For all refrigerants tested, HTCs of Turbo-C tube are the highest among the three tubes showing almost 8 times increase in HTCs as compared to those of a plain tube. Nusselt's prediction equation for a plain tube yielded 12% deviation for all plain tube data while Realty and Katz's prediction equation for a low fin tube yielded 20% deviation for all low tube data.
