This experiment was carried out to obtain the basic data for removal the astringency and off-flavor in soybean milk, by means of soaking of soybean in NaOH and $NaHCO_3$ solutions. The changes of phenolic compounds in soybean during soaking were investigated with HPLC and also the changes of flavor and sensority of soybean milk, prepared from soaked soybean were studied. Phenolic compounds of soybean were identified as chlorogenic, p-hydroxybenzoic, p-coumaric, ferulic and gentisic acid and, chlorogenic acid content was greater than the others. The chlorogenic acid of soybean was mainly neutral type and the other compounds were almost acidic type. Up to 85% of the chlorogenic acid was removed by soaking of soybean in 0.1% of NaOH solution for 8 hrs. Phenolic compounds of soybean was almost removed by soaking in 0.1% of NaOH solution at $90^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr. Chemical composition of soybean milks prepared from soaking of soybean in water, 0.1% NaOH and 0.5% $NaHCO_3$ solution were similar. Hexanol content of beany flavor in soybean milk was increased by soaking of soybean in NaOH solution, where as hexanal, propanal, pentanal contents were removed up to 60%. Color of soybean prepared from soaking of soybean in NaOH solution at high temperature were deep yellow but were high whiteness in soybean milk prepared from soaking of soybean in water at low temperature. Sensority of soybean milk prepared from soaking of soybean in 0.1% of NaOH solution at $90^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr was more favorable than the others.
The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of ambient temperatures on carcass characteristics of lambs fed concentrate diets with or without $NaHCO_3$ supplementation. A slaughter study was carried on 12 male Black Belly Barbados lambs randomly drawn from a growth trial (35 weeks). The lambs were divided into four equal groups and allotted in a $2{\times}2$ factorial design. The lambs were allotted at random to two dietary treatments of a basal diet (35:65 roughage:concentrate) or basal diet supplemented with 4% $NaHCO_3$ at different ambient temperatures ($20^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$) in an environment controlled chamber for 10 days. Lambs were slaughtered for carcass evaluation at about 262 days of age (245 days of growth trial, 7 days adaptation and 10 days of experimental period). Ambient temperature had significant (p<0.05, p<0.05, p<0.01, and p<0.001) effects on meat color from the ribeye area (REA), fat, leg and longissimus dorsi muscles with higher values recorded for lambs in the lower temperature group than those from the higher ambient temperature group. Significant differences (p<0.05) in shear force value ($kg/cm^2$) recorded on the leg muscles showed higher values (5.32 vs 4.16) in lambs under the lower ambient temperature group compared to the other group. Dietary treatments had significant (p<0.01, p<0.01, and p<0.05) effects on meat color from the REA, fat, and REA fat depth ($cm^2$) with higher values recorded for lambs in the $NaHCO_3$ supplementation group than the non supplemented group. Similarly, dietary treatments had significant differences (p<0.05) in shear force value ($kg/cm^2$) of the leg muscles with the $NaHCO_3$ groups recording higher (5.30 vs 4.60) values than those from the other group. Neither ambient temperature nor dietary treatments had any significant (p>0.05) effects on pH, and water holding capacity on both muscles. These results indicated that $NaHCO_3$ supplementation at low ambient temperatures had caused an increase in carcass characteristics leading to significant effect on meat quality.
We observed 80 dense cores ($N(H_2)$ > $10^{22}cm^{-2}$) in the Orion molecular cloud complex which contains the Orion A (39 cores), B (26 cores), and ${\lambda}$ Orionis (15 cores) clouds. We investigate the behavior of the different molecular tracers and look for chemical variations of cores in the three clouds in order to systematically investigate the effects of stellar feedback. The most commonly detected molecular lines (with the detection rates higher than 50%) are $N_2H^+$, $HCO^+$, $H^{13}CO^+$, $C_2H$, HCN, and $H_2CO$. The detection rates of dense gas tracers, $N_2H^+$, $HCO^+$, $H^{13}CO^+$, and $C_2H$ show the lowest values in the ${\lambda}$ Orionis cloud. We find differences in the D/H ratio of $H_2CO$ and the $N_2H^+/HCO^+$ abundance ratios among the three clouds. Eight starless cores in the Orion A and B clouds exhibit high deuterium fractionations, larger than 0.10, while in the ${\lambda}$ Orionis cloud, no cores reveal the high ratio. These chemical properties could support that cores in the ${\lambda}$ Orionis cloud are affected by the photo-dissociation and external heating from the nearby H II region. An unexpected trend was found in the $[N_2H^+]/[HCO^+]$ ratio with a higher median value in the ${\lambda}$ Orionis cloud than in the Orion A/B clouds than; typically, the $[N_2H^+]/[HCO^+]$ ratio is lower in higher temperatures and lower column densities. This could be explained by a longer timescale in the prestellar stage in the ${\lambda}$ Orionis cloud, resulting in more abundant nitrogen-bearing molecules. In addition to these chemical differences, the kinematical difference was also found among the three clouds; the blue excess, which is an infall signature found in optically thick line profiles, is 0 in the ${\lambda}$ Orionis cloud while it is 0.11 and 0.16 in the Orion A and B clouds, respectively. This result could be another evidence of the negative feedback of active current star formation to the next generation of star formation.

The rheological properties and surface tensions of polymer solutions and polymer-surfactant mixed solutions were investigated. The polymers used in this study were a homopolymer of acrylic acid crosslinked with an allyl ether of pentaerythritol, an allyl ether of sucrose, or an allyl ether of propylene (CARBOMER), acylate/C10-30 alkyl acylate crosspolymer (AAAC), and ammonium acryloydimethyltaurate/VP copolymer (ADTV). A solubilizing agent PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil (HCO-40) and an emulsifying agent polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan monostearate (POLYSORBATE 60) made the micelles intervening between AAAC polymers, resulting in the increase of viscosity. However, HCO-40 made this behavior over the wider range of surfactant concentration than POLYSORBATE 60. From the view point of surface tensions in the same range of surfactant concentration, AAAC/HCO-40 solution showed the area of increasing surface tension with surfactant concentration in contrast to the AAAC/POLYSORBATE 60 solution showing no increasing area.

The water chemical characteristics and age dating of springwater in Cheju island had been investigated. C_1, C_4, C_7, C_9 springwaters were not affected by seawater intrusion by TDS and electrical conductivity, relationship of Cl and tritium, Cl and HCO_3 ratio, and total hardness and pseudo hardness. In this case only C_7 springwater was evaluated tasty and healthy mineral springwater by Hahimoto's Mineral Balance Index. On the basis of the mean tritium content of rainfalls and springwater, the average residence time of it, were calculated. Considering the hydrogeologic and hydrochemical condition, completely mixed model seems to be very fit. It was obtained the result that C_9 group springwater (C_{10}, C_{12}, C_{14}) was 1.2 months, C_7 springwater was 5.6 months, and deep groundwater C_{17} was 4 years.
Water chemistry in the Munkyeong hot-spring expresses high values of EC(1,857 $mutextrm{s}$/cm), $HCO_3$(1,250 mg/l), $SO_4$(147.60 mg/l), Mg(43.05 mg/l), and Ca(279.43 mg/l). The precipitates of small quantity is formed in lower temperature, but much of in case apply heat by boiler. Although mineral that is settled from original ground water is most calcite, aragonite and calcite at the same time crystallized in boiler. The $CO_3$ is present predominantly as $HCO_3^{-}$ and $H_2$$CO_3$, $SO_4$, Mg and Ca are present as free ion. Ca is saturated with respect to carbonate such as aragonite and calcite but slightly undersaturated with respect to anhydrite and gypsum Al is saturated with diaspore and gibbsite. The precitptates are composed of carbonate such as calcite and aragonite and amorphous Fe-hydroxide.

Removal characteristics of $H^{14}CO_3$ ion from IRN-150 mixed resin contaminated with $^{14}C$ radionuclide and a gasification behavior of $^{14}C$ radionuclide to $^{14}CO_2$ were investigated. The stripping solutions used for the removal of $^{14}C$ from spent resin were $NaNO_3,\;Na_3PO_4,\;NH_4H_2PO_4,\;H_3PO_4$. The influence of stripping solution concentration on the desorption characteristics of inactive $HCO_3$ ion into stripping solution from IRN-150 mixed resin and the gasification of this ion to $CO_2$ was analyzed. The gasification behavior to $CO_2$ by using NaOH, $HNO_3$, HCl was also compared to that of phosphate solution. Real spent resin stored in Wolsung nuclear power plant was used to evaluate the gasification characteristics of $^{14}C$ radionuclide to $^{14}CO_2$. Gamma radionuclides such as $^{137}Cs,\;^{60}Co$ in residual striping solutions after desorption experiment were analyzed.
The chemical compositions of groundwaters from the granite areas mainly belong to Ca-HC0$_{3}$ and Na-HC0$_{3}$type, and some of these belong to Ca-(CI+S0$_{4}$) and Na-(CI+S0$_{4}$) type. Spring waters and groundwaters from anorthosite areas belong to Ca-HC03 and Na-HC03 type, respectively. The result of reaction path modeling shows that the chemical compositions of aqueous solution reacted with granite evolve from initial Ca-CI type, via CaHC0$_{3}$ type, to Na-HC0$_{3}$ type. The result of rain water-anorthosite interaction is similar to evolution path of granite reaction and both of these results agree well with the field data. In the reaction path modeling of rain watergranite/anorthosite reaction, as a reaction is progressing, the activity of hydrogen ion decreases (pH increases). The concentrations of cations are controlled by the dissolution of rock-forming minerals and precipitation and re-dissolution of secondary minerals according to the pH. The continuous addition of granite causes the formation of secondary minerals in the following sequence; gibbsite plus hematite, Mn-oxide, kaolinite, silica, chlorite, muscovite (a proxy for illite here), calcite, laumontite, prehnite, and finally analcime. In the anorthosite reaction, the order of precipitation of secondary minerals is the same as with granite reaction except that there is no silica precipitation and paragonite precipitates instead of analcime. The silica and kaolinite are predominant minerals in the granite and anorthosite reactions, respectively. Total quantities of secondary minerals in the anorthosite reaction are more abundant than those in the granite reaction.
The effectiveness of lidocaine HCI (lidocaine HCI/sodium bicarbonate mixture) was tested as an anaesthetic for Rhynchocypris oxycephalus and R. steindachneri at three different temperatures of $10^{\circ}C.$, $15^{\circ}C.$ and $20^{\circ}C.$. Based on the exposure and recovery time, effective doses of lidocaine HCI were proven to be 300ppm ($20^{\circ}C.$), 400ppm ($15^{\circ}C.$), and 600ppm($10^{\circ}C.$) for R. oxcephaus, and 400ppm ($20^{\circ}C.$), 500ppm ($15^{\circ}C.$), and 600ppm ($10^{\circ}C.$) for R. steindachneri respectively. Anaesthetic dose and temperature-dependent relationship in exposure and recovery time were obseved for these two Rhynchocypris spops. There were size-related increases of exposure time on R. steindachneri in each dose of lidocaine HCI. However, dost-dependent increase of recovery time wea found in only the large size group of Rhynchocypris spp.
