An efficient method of extraction for carotenoids in Rhodotorula glutinis KCTC 7989 was developed. Major carotenoids produced were identified as torularhodin of 61.7%, $\beta$-carotene of 28.8%, and torulene of 9.5%. HCI treatment, as a pretreatment on cell, was necessary to carry out together with thermal treatment unlike DMSO pretreatment. The choice of solvent had an important effect on the composition of carotenoids extracted: benzene and chloroform were effective for the extraction of torularhodin, especially. However, diethyl ether was most effective for the extraction of total carotenoids. Freeze dried type cells showed high efficiency value for the extraction of carotenoids, in compared with dried and wet type cells.
This study was carried out to investigate the possible determination of total phenolic compounds by Folin-Denis method from Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer and their extraction conditions. It was possible to apply the method for determination of total phenolic compounds from Korean red ginseng. But 3 kinds of amino acids such as tyrosine, cystein and tryptophan, and 3 kinds of vitamins such as ascorbic acid, pyridoxin HCI and thiamine HCI affected strongly the colorization by the method. Effective alcoholic solvent for the extraction was 60% ethanol, appropriate extraction temperature, time and times were 40-80。C, 1-2 hours and 3 times, respectively.

It is a key element that the problem of emotional feature extraction based on facial image to recognize a human emotion status. In this paper, we propose an Advanced AAM that is improved version of proposed Facial Expression Recognition Systems based on Bayesian Network by using FACS and AAM. This is a study about the most efficient method of optimal facial feature area for human emotion recognition about random user based on generalized HCI system environments. In order to perform such processes, we use a Statistical Shape Analysis at the normalized input image by using Advanced AAM and FACS as a facial expression and emotion status analysis program. And we study about the automatical emotional feature extraction about random user.
The properties vary with quality of ferric-oxide that is major material of ferrites. In this point of view, a manufacturing method of pure and homogeneous fine ferric oxide is very important. The characters of this study are as follows: 1) Ferric oxide was made from waste pickling liquor of steel. 2) The crude ferric-oxide that is made by roasting the pickling liquor was dissolved in 20% HCI solution and then produced ferric chloride is purified by ethyl ether extraction. 3) The methanol solution of purified ferric chloride was sprayed into the refractory tube with compressed air and propane gas and then ignited leading to the ferric-oxide powder. 4) The produced oxide powder was introduced to the scrubber type vessel throught cooling system in order to collect the powder. 5) Crystalline phase of the powder was identified by X-ray diffraction and particle size, crystalline shape of the powder were investigated by settling method and electron microscope and the effects of concentration of ferric chloride in methanol on grain size were discussed. Results were obtained as fellows: 1) Total impurity in the ferric oxide produced from waste pickling liquor was 3.7%. 2) The solubilityof crude ferric oxide that was made from waste pickling liquor in HCI solution increased with the HCI concentration and reached to saturation range at 15% HCI concentration. 3) Extraction of FeCl3 increased with HCI concentration which is solvent. 4) Alpha ferric oxide obtained was very fine crystalline particles, the mean crystalline grain increased with the concentration of ferric chloride, and mean grain size distributed from 3.5$\mu$(at 0.5mole/l) to 0.5$\mu$(at 0.05mole/l).

Thanks to the development of the Internet, people can easily access a vast amount of music. This brings attention to application systems such as a melody-based music search service or music recommendation service. Extracting melodies from music is a crucial process to provide such services. This paper introduces a novel algorithm that can extract melodies from piano music. Since piano can produce polyphonic music, we expect that by studying melody extraction from piano music, we can help extract melodies from general polyphonic music.
Biometrics is essential for person identification because of its uniqueness from each individuals. Face recognition technology has advantage over other biometrics because of its convenience and non-intrusive characteristics. In this paper, we will present a overview of face recognition technology including face detection, feature extraction, and face recognition system. For face detection, we will describe template based method and face component based approach. PCA and LDA approach will be discussed for feature extraction, and nearest neighbor classifiers -will be covered for matching. Large database and the standardized performance evaluation methodology is essential in order to support state-of-the-art face recognition system. Also, 3D based face recognition technology is the key solution for the pose, lighting and expression variations in many applications.
Several chemical washing procedures were applied to Zn and Cd contaminated soil. Batch and column tests were performed to determine the metal extraction efficiency as a function of pH and concentration. Washing efficiencies by water and NaOH are very low but those by HCI, EDTA and Oxalic acid are high. The most efficient washing occurs in case of using HCI because heavy metal is ionized easily at the condition of low pH. EDTA and Oxalic acid are also effective to extract Zn and Cd because they have a high complexation affinity for heavy metals forming active surface complexes. More Zn is released than Cd is and release trend is increased as pH is decreased and concentration of washing solution is increased. When heavy metal contaminated soil is remediated, HCI and EDTA are more effective to remove Zn than others are. Meanwhile HCI and Oxalic acid are more effective to remove Cd than others are.
A solvent extraction technique, using bis (2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid, (HDEHP), as the extractant, was employed to examine some characteristical difference between lighter and heavier parts of 4f series. Some difference in temperature dependencies of the distribution ratios between the two groups were observed for the aqueous systems of H$_2$SO$_4$ and HCI. This experimental results were tentatively assigned as the difference in the ability of formation of inner coordination complex with HDEHP derived from the lanthanon contraction.
A gas chromatographic method was established for the simultaneous determination of urinary nicotine and cotinine. The analytes in basified urine containing a sufficient amount of Na$_2$S0$_4$were extracted into dichloromethane by vigorous shaking. Into the transferred organic phase was added a small amount of acidified methanol (0.5 N HCI in methanol), followed by concentrating the mixture to dryness using a mild stream of nitrogen gas. The concentrate was reconstituted with methanol and the final solution analyzed using the gas chromatograph equipped with the nitrogen-phosphorus detector. The reproducibility tests showed coefficients of variation less than 11% for both compounds. The percent recovery for both analytes ranged from 88 to 103%. The estimated method detection limits for nicotine and cotinine were 0.60 and 5.1 ng/mL, respectively. Extraction efficiencies for both nicotine and cotinine apparently declined without the addition of Na$_2$S0$_4$into the urine. Moreover, the absence of methanolic HCI in the extract resulted in almost complete evaporation of nicotine and partial loss of cotinine during the concentration process, indicating that the formation of nicotine-HCI and cotinine-HCI species is prerequisite to the suppression of the loss of both compounds.
Researches of image-based 3D reconstruction have recently produced a number of good results, but they assumed that the accurate foreground to be reconstructed is already extracted from each input image. This paper proposes a novel approach to extract more accurate foregrounds by iteratively performing foreground extraction and 3D reconstruction in a manner similar to an EM algorithm on regions segmented in an initial stage, called segments. Here, the segments should preserve foreground boundaries to compensate for the boundary errors generated by visual hull, simple 3D reconstruction to minimize the computational time, and should also be composed of the small number of sets to minimize the user input. Therefore, we utilize image segmentation using the graph-cuts method, which minimizes energy function composed of data and smoothness terms, and the two methods are iteratively performed until the energy function is optimized. In the experiments, more accurate results of the foreground, especially in boundaries, were obtained, although the proposed method used a simple 3D reconstruction method.
