  • It is necessary to detect the feature points existing simultaneously in both images and then find the corresponding relationship between the detected feature points. We propose a new feature detector based on geometric mean of two eigenvalues of gradient matrix which is able to measure the change of pixel intensities. The corner response of the proposed detector is proportional to the geometric mean and also the difference of two eigenvalues in the case of same geometric mean. We analyzed the localization error of the feature detection using aerial image and artificial image with various types of corners. The localization error of the proposed detector was smaller than that of the typical corner detector, Harris detector.

  • In this work, the helicopter price estimation formula from Harris & Scully is revised and updated for more accurate prediction of the current prices of helicopters which can be applied in the preliminary design stage. As many as 74 helicopter price and sizing data after the year 1997 are newly included to the out-dated coefficients in the cost estimation formula. In addition, the updated price estimation formula is added to Tishchenko's preliminary sizing method for price consideration in the preliminary design stage. Sikorsky's S-76C+ helicopter is used along with other various helicopters for comparison and validation of the sizing code as well as the new updated price estimation formula.

  • Harris corner detector is commonly used to detect feature points for recognizing 2-D or 3-D objects. However, the feature points calculated from both of query and target objects need to be same positions to guarantee accurate recognitions. In order to check the positions of calculated feature points, we generate a Huffman tree which is based on adjacent feature values as inputs. However, the structures of two Huffman trees will be same as long as both of a query and targets have same feature values no matter how different their positions are. In this paper, we sort feature values and calculate the Euclidean distances of coordinates between two adjacent feature values. The Huffman Tree is generated with these Euclidean distances. As a result, the information of point locations can be included in the generated Huffman tree. This is the main strategy for accurate recognitions. We call this system as the HRM(Hybrid Retrieval Machine). This system works very well even when artificial random noises are added to original data. HRM can be used to recognize biological data such as proteins, and it will curtail the costs which are required to biological experiments.

  • This paper introduces GP(Genetic Programming) based corner detectors for an image processing. Various empirical algorithms have been studied to improve computational speed and accuracy including typical approaches, such as Harris and SUSAN. The these techniques are highly efficient, because properties of corner points are inspected and reflected into the algorithms. However these approaches are limited in discovering an innovative algorithm. In this study, we try to discover a more efficient technique by creating corner detector automatically using evolution of GP. The proposed method is compared to the existing corner detectors for test images.

  • Introduction: To evaluate the efficacy of superior gluteal artery-pedicled iliac crest for the treatment of avascular necrosis of femoral head. Material & Method: From January 2001 to October 2001, we used the superior deep branches of superior gluteal artery for the pedicled posterior iliac crest bone graft to revascularize the avascular femoral head in 4 patients. They were 1 man and 3 women, and the mean age of the patients was 34 years (range, 27 to 60). The average follow-up after surgery was over 57 months (range, 15 to 82). We analyzed the clinical results by the Harris hip score, and evaluated the vascularity of the femoral head by radiographic methods. Results: All cases showed no evidence of collapse on femoral heads and good revascularizations on the radiographic images. The average Harris hip score was 88.5 points. There was no complication. Conclusion: The revascularization procedure using the superior gluteal artery-pedicled posterior iliac crest was thought to be one of the effective and promising techniques for the treatment of the avascular necrosis of femoral head.

  • Kinetic studies were carried out for aquation of carbonatobis(ethylenediamine)cobalt(III) complexes in [H+] aqueous solution by UV/VIS-spectrophotometry. The rate law that in deduced from rate data is $rate=k_H{^+}[H^+]^{1.4}$ {$[Co(en)_2(CO_3)]^+$}1.0 where $k_H{^+}$ is the rate constant considering acidic catalyst, $H^+$ ion whose value is $0.241l{\cdot}mol^{-1}{\cdot}sec^{-1}$. The values of activation parameters Ea, ${\Delta}H^{\ast}$ and ${\Delta}S^{\ast}$ were $15.33Kcal{\cdot}mol^{-1}$, $14.52Kcal{\cdot}mol^{-1}$ and -57.49 e.u. respectively. On the basis of kinetic data and the observed activation parameters, we have proposed the mechanism that proceeds with two step protonations. The rate equation derived from the proposed mechanism has been in agreement with the observed rate equation. It has been seen that our modified mechanism for Harris's proton freequilibrium one prefer to the his concerted mechanism, and more the last product substitute $H_2O$ for $OH^-$ the Harris's mechanism in the acidity range 2 < pH < 5.

  • The objective of this study was to propose a rehabilitation protocol for total hip replacement in Korean medicine and to report its effectiveness. Three patients who had undergone total hip replacement were treated using the rehabilitation protocol in Korean medicine. We evaluated the outcome evaluating physical examination findings of the hip joint, numeric rating scale, pain disability index, Harris hip score, and walking state. After the treatment, we observed that hip movement and muscular strength improved. Moreover numeric rating scale, pain disability index, Harris hip score, and walking state of patients improved. A rehabilitation in Korean medicine can be effectively used for total hip replacement patients. The limitation of this study was the insufficient number of cases. Further studies are needed to design a rehabilitation protocol in Korean medicine.

  • This paper deals with the dynamic characteristics of the impeller shaft model which is the most important part in developing the resin mixing machine. The can is rotating by air motor in mixing machine. Then the end of shaft is fixed. The bearing support is to increase the fundamental natural frequency. The natural frequency analysis using finite element analysis software are performed on the imported commercial impeller shaft model. This paper presents calculated bearing stiffness of Soda, Harris and modified Harris formula considering contact angle according to bearing supported position. The most important fundamental natural frequency of the impeller shaft except bearing support is around 13.932 Hz. This paper presents one bearing and two bearings support position to maximize the 1st natural frequency. The maximized fundamental natural frequency is around 48.843 Hz in one bearing support and 55.52 Hz in two bearings support.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare predictions and measurements of the resting energy expenditure (REE) of overweight and obese adult women in Korea. Methods: The subjects included 65 overweight or obese adult women ranging in age from 20~60 with a recorded body mass index (BMI) of 23 or higher. Their height, weight, waist-hip ratio, and blood pressure were measured. The investigator also measured their body fat, body fat percentage, and body composition of total weight without fat using Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and measured resting energy expenditure by indirect calorimetry. Measured resting energy expenditures were compared with predictions from six methods: Harris-Benedict, Mifflin, Owen, WHO-WH, Henry-WH, and KDRI. Results: Harris-Benedict predictions showed the smallest differences from measured resting energy expenditure at an accurate prediction rate of 70%. The study analyzed regression between measured resting energy expenditure and body measurements including height, weight and age. The formula proposed by this research is as follows: Proposed REE equation for overweight and obese Korean women = $721-(1.5{\times}age)+(0.4{\times}height)+(9.9{\times}weight)$. Conclusions: These findings suggest that age is a significant variable when predicting resting energy expenditure in overweight and obese women. Therefore, prediction of resting energy expenditure should consider age when determining energy requirements in overweight and obese women.
