Experimental investigations and FE simulation of exterior BCJs retrofitted with CFRP fabric

  • This paper presents the results of experimental and numerical studies conducted to investigate the behavior of exterior reinforced concrete beam column joints (BCJ) strengthened by using carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets. Twelve reinforced concrete beam-column joints (BCJ) were tested in an experimental program by simulating the joints in seismically deficient old buildings. One group of BCJs was designed to fail in flexure at the BCJ interface, and the second group was designed to ensure joint shear failure. One specimen in each set was -retrofitted with CFRP sheet wrapped diagonally around the joint. The specimens were subjected to both monotonic and cyclic loading up to failure. 3D finite element simulation of the BCJs tested in the experimental program was carried out using the software ABAQUS, adopting the damage plasticity model (CDP) for concrete. The experimental results showed that retrofitting of the shear deficient, BCJs by CFRP sheets enhanced the strength and ductility and the failure mode changed from shear failure in the joints to the desired flexural failure in the beam segment. The FE simulation of BCJs showed a good agreement with the experimental results, which indicated that the CDP model could be used to model the problems of the monotonic and cyclic loading of beam-column reinforced concrete joints.

Assessment of shear resistance of corroded beams repaired using SFRC in the tension zone

  • This study experimentally and analytically investigates the shear behavior of corroded reinforced concrete (RC) beams repaired using steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) in the flexural zone. The experimental parameters are the corrosion degree (0%, 12%, and 17%) and the steel fiber volume in the SFRC (1.0%, 1.5%, and 2.0%). The test results reveal that corrosion degree significantly affects the shear resistance of the beams. The shear capacity of the beam with the corrosion degree of 17% was higher than that of the uncorroded beam, whereas the shear capacity of the beam with the corrosion degree of 12% was lower than that of the uncorroded beam. The shear efficiency of damaged beams can be recovered by repairing them using SFRC that contains a reasonable amount of steel fibers. In addition, two methods to estimate the shear capacity of the repaired beams are developed using the modified truss analogy and strut-and-tie models. The estimated shear capacity of the beam using the modified truss analogy model agrees well with the experimental data.

  • The need for establishing the contribution of pultruded FRP encasements and additional FRP wraps around these encasements to the shear strength and load-deflection behavior of reinforced concrete beams is the main motivation of the present study. This paper primarily focuses on the effect of additional wrapping around the composite beam on the flexural and shear behavior of the pultruded GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer) beams infilled with reinforced concrete, taking into account different types of failure according to av/H ratio (arch action, shear-tension, shear-compression and pure bending). For this purpose, nine hybrid beams with variable shear span-to-depth ratio (av/H) were tested. Hybrid beams with 500 mm, 1000 mm, and 1500 mm lengths and cross-sections of 150x100 mm and 100x100 mm were tested under three-point and four-point loading. Based on the testing load-displacement relationship, ductility ratio, energy dissipation capacity of the beams were evaluated with comprehensive macro damage analysis on pultruded GFRP profile and GFRP wrapping. The GFRP wraps were established to have a major contribution to the composite beam ductility (90-125%) and strength (40-75%) in all ranges of beam behavior (shear-dominated or dominated by the coupling of shear and flexure). The composite beams with wraps were showns to reach ductilities and strength values of their counterparts with much greater beam depth.

이온 빔 증착법으로 제작한 NiFe/FeMn/NiFe 3층박막의 버퍼층 Si에 따른 결정성 및 교환결합세기 향상 (Enhancement of Crystallinity and Exchange Bias Field in NiFe/FeMn/NiFe Trilayer with Si Buffer Layer Fabricated by Ion-Beam Deposition)

  • 유리기관 위에 이온 빔 증착(ion beam deposition ; IBD)법으로 제작한 버퍼층(buffer layer) Si의 두께에 따른 [NiFe/FeMn/NiFe]3층박막의 결정성과 교환결합세기(exchange bias field ; H$_{ex}$)를 조사하였다. 버퍼층 Si는 NiFe층을 fcc(111)로 매우 우세하게 초기에 결정성장 시켰다. Si/NiFe 위의 증착된 FeMn층은 ${\gamma}$-fcc(111)구조로 성장함에 따라 안정되고 큰 H$_{ex}$를 가졌고, 버퍼 110 Oe로 거의 일정하였으며, 상부 FeMn/NiFe 이중구조의 H$_{ex}$는 300 Oe까지 증가하였다. 버퍼층이 Ta일 경우와 비교해서 Si일 때 H$_{ex}$와 결정성이 향상되었다.이 향상되었다.

강합성 초간편 H형강 교량의 하중분배계수에 관한 해석적 연구 (A Numerical Study on Load Distribution Factors for Simplified Composite H-Beam Panel Bridges)

  • 본 논문에서는 압엽형강(H형강)을 이용한 초간편 강합성 교량에 대한 3차원 유한요소해석을 실시하여, 다양한 하중조건에 따른 하중분배값을 검토하였다. 유한요소해석에는 범용구조해석 프로그램 ABAQUS(2007)가 사용되었다. 하중분배계수 검토에 고려된 변수로는 콘크리트 슬래브 두께, 강판 두께, 주형길이, 바닥판 폭, 그리고 교량 연속성이 적용되었다. 해석을 통해 얻어진 하중 분배율은 AASHTO Standard 와 LRFD 설계기준의 제안식 및 기존 연구자들이 제안한 식들과 비교 검토되었다. AASHTO Standard는 매우 안전측의 하중분배율을 제안하고 있으며, AASHTO LRFD의 경우 내측주형의 경우 유사한 결과를 나타내기도 했으나 외측주형의 경우 대부분의 경우 큰 값을 나타내었다. 본 연구를 통해 제안된 하중분배값은 유한요소해석 결과를 토대로 안전측으로 제안되었으며, 설계변수별 상세설계에 적용가능하다. 또한 본 논문에서는 초간편 강합성 H형강 교량의 설계 간편성을 극대화하고 안전성을 고려하여 내측주형의 경우 0.42, 외측주형의 경우 0.32를 제안하였다. 본 연구내용에 검토된 매개변수 범위 내에서 간편 하중분배값의 적용이 가능하며, 본 연구의 결과는 초간편 강합성 H형강 교량의 설계 및 시공 활성화에 크게 기여할 것이다.

Measurement of secondary electron emission coefficient(${\gamma}$) with oblique low energy ion and work function ${\phi}_{\omega}$ of theMgO thin film in AC-PDPs

  • Oblique ion-induced secondary electron emission coefficient(${\gamma}$) with low energy ..and work function ${\phi}_{\omega}$(${\theta}$ = 0 and ${\theta}$ = 20) of the MgO thin film in AC-PDPs has been measured by ${\gamma}$-FIB system. The MgO thin film has been deposited from sintered material under electron beam evaporation method. The energy of $He^+$ ions used has been ranged from 50eV to 150eV. Oblique ion beam has been chosen to be 10 degree, 20 degree and 30 degree. It is found that the higher secondary electron emission coefficient(${\gamma}$) has been achieved by the higher oblique ion beam up to inclination angle of 30 degree than the perpendicular incident ion beam.

효과적인 효소 소화율을 위한 볏짚 전처리 (Pretreatment of Rice Straw for Efficient Enzyme Digestibility)

  • Rice straw was pretreated with aqueous ammonia in order to enhance enzyme digestibility. Soaking in ammonia aqueous (SAA) was conducted with 15% ammonia, at $60^{\circ}C$. for 24 h. Optimization of both saccharification conditions and enzyme loading of SAA rice straw was carried out. Especially enzyme loading test was performed using statistical method. Moreover proton beam irradiation (PBI) was also performed to overcome the problem which inhibit the enzyme digestibility at 1-25 kGy doses with 45 MeV of beam energy. Optimal condition for enzymatic saccharification was follows; pH 4.8, $50^{\circ}C$, 60 FPU of enzyme activity, 1:4 ratio of celluase and ${\beta}$-glucosidase. Also, optimal doses of PBI on rice straw and SAA-treated rice straw for efficient sugar recovery were found to be 3 kGy, respectively. When saccharification was performed with optimal condition, glucose conversion yield was 89% of theocratical maximum in 48 h, and 3 kGy of PBI was applied to SAA-treated rice straw, approximately 90% of the theoretical glucose yield was obtained in 12 h. The results of X-ray diffractometry (XRD) support the effect of both SAA and PBI on sugar recovery, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images unveiled the physical change of the rice straw surface since rugged rice straw surface was observed.

충전각형강관 기둥-합성 H형강보 접합부 휨성능 결정요인에 관한 연구 (A Parametrical Study on the flexural strength of Concrete-Filled SHS Columns to Composite H-Beam Connections)

  • 철골구조물에 각형강관기둥과 H형강보가 많이 사용되는 추세에 있다. 각형강관기둥과 H형강보의 접합부는 그 회전강성이 약한 것으로 알려져 있다. 그러한 약점을 보완하기 위해서 콘크리트 충전된 각형강관과 H형강보 접합부에 대한 많은 고안이 이루어지고 있다. 그런데 이렇게 고안된 모든 접합부 모델에 대해서 실험을 행할 수는 없으므로 수치해석 모델링과 수치해석에 의해 그 강도를 규명해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 유한요소 모델링기법을 연구하고 접합부의 강성을 좌우하는 여러요소 즉 콘크리트 강도, 각형강관두께, 축력의 크기 및 편심위치 등을 변화시켜 접합부 강성변화에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 살펴보았다.

  • Transport systems which are the important part of the factory automation have much influence on improving productivity. Object transport systems are driven typically by the magnetic field and conveyer belt. In recent years, as the transmission and processing of information is required more quickly, demands of optical elements and semiconductors increase. However, conventional transport systems are not adequate for transportation of those. The reason is that conveyor belts can damage precision optical elements by the contact force and magnetic systems can destroy the inner structure of semiconductor by the magnetic field. In this paper, the levitation transport system using ultrasonic wave is developed for transporting precision elements without damages. Vibration modes of each flexural beam are verified by using Laser Scanning Vibrometer.

  • This paper presents the results of a major parametric study on the collapse cause of the Sungsoo Grand Bridge, a Gerber-type continuous truss bridge, which had collapsed just at the 15th year since opening to traffic. Among the various collapse causes such as poor design, poor welding, poor maintenance, and heavy traffic loads, this study focuses on the collapse cause assessment incorporating the effects of braket and H-beam members right below the expansion joint of the suspended truss. A local FEM analysis using fine shell elements is carrided out for the more precise estimation of stress range of the vertical pin-connected hanger whose fatigue fracture triggered the collapse of the bridge. Both the conventional S-N approach and the Ang-Munse's fatigue reliability method are used for the evaluation of the fatigue life and fatigue failure probability for the assessment based on all the available results of various field and labolatory tests. From these observations, It may be affirmatively stated that the effects of bracket and H-beam members accelerated the fatigue failure, and thus should be regarded as one of major causes that triggered the bridge collapse
