  • In this study, the electric field distributions have been investigated by simulation in accordance with the various shapes of ITO-electrodes. Also we have measured the density of excited Xe atoms in the 1s5 state in discharge cell, where the gap distance of 60 um, gas pressure of 400 Torr, Xe contents of 7%, and sustaining voltage of 200 V are kept in this experiment. The maximum density of excited Xe atoms in the 1s5 state in a discharge cell for the fish-boned, T shaped and squared ITO electrodes have been measured to be $3.01\;{\times}\;10^{13}\;cm^{-3}$, $2.66\;{\times}\;10^{13}\;cm^{-3}$ and $2.06\;{\times}\;10^{13}\;cm^{-3}$, respectively. It is shown that the electric field distribution with different ITO Electrodes is essential factor for these maximum density of excited Xe atoms in discharge cell.

  • Electron beam evaporation source is widely used to prepare thin films by physical vapor deposition because it is very effective to vaporize materials and there is virtually no limit to vaporize materials including metals and compounds such as oxide. In this study, evaporation characteristics of various metals and compounds from an electron beam evaporation source have been studied. The 180 degree deflection type electron beam evaporation source which has 6-hearth crucibles and is capable of inputting power up to 10 kW was employed for evaporation experiment. 36 materials including metals, oxides and fluorides have been tested and described in terms of optimum crucible liner, evaporation state, stability, and so on. Various crucible liners have been tried to find out the most effective way to vaporize materials. Two types of crucible liners have been employed in this experiment. One is contact type liner, and the other is non-contact type one. It has been tried to give the objective information and the most effective evaporation method on the evaporation of materials from the electron beam evaporation source. It is concluded that the electron beam evaporation source can be used to prepare good quality films by choosing the appropriate crucible liner.

  • Purpose: This study investigated the position of the hyoid bone and its relationship with airway dimensions in different skeletal malocclusion classes using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: CBCT scans of 180 participants were categorized based on the A point-nasion-B point angle into class I, class II, and class III malocclusions. Eight linear and 2 angular hyoid parameters(H-C3, H-EB, H-PNS, H-Me, H-X, H-Y, H-[C3-Me], C3-Me, H-S-Ba, and H-N-S) were measured. A 3-dimensional airway model was designed to measure the minimum cross-sectional area, volume, and total and upper airway length. The mean crosssectional area, morphology, and location of the airway were also evaluated. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and the Pearson correlation test, with P values <0.05 indicating statistical significance. Results: The mean airway volume differed significantly among the malocclusion classes(P<0.05). The smallest and largest volumes were noted in class II (2107.8±844.7 ㎣) and class III (2826.6±2505.3 ㎣), respectively. The means of most hyoid parameters (C3-Me, C3-H, H-Eb, H-Me, H-S-Ba, H-N-S, and H-PNS) differed significantly among the malocclusion classes. In all classes, H-Eb was correlated with the minimum cross-sectional area and airway morphology, and H-PNS was correlated with total airway length. A significant correlation was also noted between H-Y and total airway length in class II and III malocclusions and between H-Y and upper airway length in class I malocclusions. Conclusion: The position of the hyoid bone was associated with airway dimensions and should be considered during orthognathic surgery due to the risk of airway obstruction.
