The objective of this research is to explore the analysis and test method for the reliable design and fabrication of a high precision dynamically tuned gyroscope. The tuning frequency is decided by the calculation of mass moment of inertia of rotor and gimbal and the stiffness of flexures. Due to the complex geometry of the flexure, calculation of the stiffness of the suspension flexure is difficult. In this paper, three analytical methods for obtaining the stiffness of the flexure are porposed and a special testing method is used for checking the accuracy of the computed results.
The gyroscopes have been used as a suitable inertial instrument for the navigation guidance and attitude controls. The accuracy as very sensitive sensor is limited by the lock-in region (dead band) by the frequency coupling between two counter-propagating waves at low rotation rates. This frequency coupling gives no phase difference and an angular increment is not detected. This problem can be overcome by the mechanical dithering. The purpose of the mechanical dithering is to suppress the dead band, oscillate the monoblock about the rotation axis and add an external rotation rate. This paper presents the theoretical considerations of the mechanical performances of dither on the basis of the loading condition and angular characteristics due to the piezoelement deformation and the validity of theoretical equations are compared through FEM (Finite Element Method) simulations.
Recently, number of navigation system using GPS and other complementary sensors has been developed to offer high-position accuracy. In this paper, an integration of GPS and Dead-Reckoning, which consists of a fiber optical gyroscope and two high-precision wheel-motor encoders for a unmanned navigation system, is presented. The main objective of this integrated GPS/DR unmanned navigation system is to provide accurate position and heading navigation data continuously for autonomous mobile robot. We propose a method for increasing the accuracy of the estimated position of the mobile robot by its DR sensors, high-precision wheel-motor encoders and a fiber optical gyroscope. We used Kalman filter theory to combine GPS and DR measurements. The performance of GPS/DR navigation system is evaluated.

Straodown intertial navigation system(SDINS) is a navigational instrument necessary to guide and control a free vehicle. Dynamically Tuned Gyroscope(DTG) which is widely applied to SDINS convers a wide dynamic range and is simple and small. In study, the analysis of mechanical parts or sensor parts and research of balancing is performed for manufacturing a DTG. In error analysis the criterion considered during designing and manufacturing is established by quantitatively anayzing the effect of DTG performance by tolerance. And the theory of dynamic balancing is derived and unbalance is reduced through experiment. And the stiffness of flexure is verified by tuning experiment.
In a verical type, vibratory gyroscope, the coupled motion between the reference and sensing vibrations causes the zero-point output which means non-zero sensing vibration without angular velocity. This structural coupling leaks to an inherent discrepancy between the natural frequencies of the reference and sensing oscillations, causing the degradation of the sensing performance and dynamic stability. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics associated the coupling phenomenon are theoretically analyzed. Effects of reference frequency and coupling factor on the rotational direction and amplitude of elliptic oscillation are studied. A technique to predict the existence of curve veering of crossing in frequency trajectories is introduced to apply the design of micro gyroscopes with decoupled structures.

An attitude estimation algorithm which integrates gyroscope and vision measurements using an adaptive complementary filter is proposed in this paper. In order to make the filter more tolerant to vision measurement fault and more robust to system dynamics, fuzzy interpolator is applied. For recognizing the dynamic condition of the system and vision measurement fault, the cut-off frequency of the complementary filter is determined adaptively by using the fuzzy logic with designed membership functions. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by experiments and it is confirmed that proposed algorithm works well in the static or dynamic condition.
We propose and demonstrate a new scheme for suppression of output distortion in an open-loop gyroscope employing an erbium-doped fiber amplifier/source (FAS). In addition to the main modulation for the rotation rate measurement, a small auxiliary modulation at a different frequency is used to extract an error signal, which is necessary for keeping the quasi-dc component of the feedback signal power at a constant level for varying rotation rate. By active tracking of the optimum modulation condition using this two-frequency modulation scheme, we obtain stable gyro output with suppressed distortion as well as stable FAS characteristics. We also calculate the distortion in the gyro response due to the feedback effect, from which we estimate the FAS gyro output distortion due to the residual ac feedback effect when the dc feedback effect is removed by the proposed scheme. The measured residual deviation agrees reasonably with the estimation.
The aim of this paper is to design a centrifugal deformation error compensation method with guaranteed performance that allows angular velocity measurement of the magnetically suspended sensitive gyroscopes (MSSGs). The angular velocity measurement principle and the structure of the MSSG are described, and the analytical model of errors caused by MSSG rotor centrifugal deformation is established. Then, an on-line rotor centrifugal deformation error compensation method based on measurement of rotor spinning speed in real-time has been designed. The common issues caused by centrifugal deformation of spinning rotors can be effectively resolved by the proposed method. Comparative experimental results before and after compensation demonstrate the validity and superiority of the error compensation method.

This paper describes a method aimed at improving dead-reckoning accuracy with gyroscopes in mobile robots. The method is a precision calibration procedure for gyroscopes, which effectively reduces the ill effects of nonlinearity of the scale-factor and temperature dependency. This paper also describes the methods of gyro data collection fur all ambient temperature$(-40^{\circ}C{\~}+80^{\circ}C)$ using cubic spline interpolation and defining the error function. The sensor used was a vibrating gyroscope called the EWTS82NA21, which is low lost and commonly used in car navigation system, made by Panasonic. This angular rate sensor utilizes Coriolis force generated by a vibrating tuning fork. The paper also provides experimental results to check the performance and the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The gyroscope free strap-down INS is composed only of accelerometers. Any gyroscope free INS navigation error is deeply affected by the accuracy of the sensor bias, scale factor, orientation and location error. However these parameters can be found by calibration. There is an important research issue about a multi-position calibration method in this paper. It provides a novel method to find the error parameters for the six-accelerometer INS. A superior simulation is shown that the multi-position calibration can find the specifications of a six-accelerometer INS in laboratory. From these parameters the six-accelerometer INS could apply in realistic navigation.
