Based on the findings of this study, the reform measures proposed to revitalize Gyeonggi-do Small Libraries in terms of ordinances as follows: ① strengthen the library law and business promotion related to Small Libraries; ② enact the mandatory library law provisions for the installation of and support for Small Libraries; ③ even if there are relevant provisions in the 「Library Act」, the local governments' Small Libraries Support Ordinances should at least simply state that they must meet the criteria specified in the 「Library Act」; and ④ provisions on the number and qualifications of operating personnel of Small Libraries reflecting the number of users and the size of collections of books of Small Libraries of cities and counties.

  • Focusing on Gyeonggi Library, which is preparing Metaverse services using resident participatory budgets, we deduced the role of Metaverse suitable for metropolitan representative libraries, conducting a preliminary study and analyzing various informational resources. Subsequently, we presented a collaborative content construction and service model primarily centered around the metropolitan representative library. We conducted a survey targeting on-site librarians from metropolitan representative libraries, as well as various libraries across Gyeonggi Province and the entire nation. Through this survey, we extracted insights into the Metaverse role, content possibilities, and considerations for seamless cooperation within the scope of the metropolitan representative library. Based on the opinions of surveyed librarians, it was evident that the role of the metropolitan representative library's Metaverse should function as a tool for continuous utilization of library resources and serve as a space for the entire local community. Approximately three-fourths of the respondents expressed willingness to participate in collaborative content development. However, concerns were raised about human resource limitations, budget constraints, and excessive workloads as potential obstacles to participation. This highlighted the need for systematic support from the metropolitan representative library to address these concerns.

  • In Gyeonggi-do(province), where the largest number of small libraries are located in Korea, 42% of small libraries are located in apartment complexes. However, as libraries established under legal obligations are managed and operated on voluntary will, there have been numerous ongoing cases of temporary closure or permanent shut down. To revitalize small libraries in apartment complexes, it is reasonable to seek ways to revitalize them through the role of the central point of the village community in the complex. To that end, this study surveyed the current status of small libraries in Gyeonggi-do, a survey of small library operators and related persons in apartment housing complexes and similar residential communities in Gyeonggi-do and 31 cities and counties. Based on this, this study was intended to derive practical measures to revitalize the operation and preservation of small libraries in such residential communities. Four goals were set to improve community awareness of small libraries, cultivate self-operating abilities, improve laws and systems, and strengthen support for local governments. Research needs to be carried out not only for small libraries in apartment complexes in Gyeonggi-do but also for the continued development of other small private libraries.

  • This study aims to examine the effect of students' library after-school activities on the students and the school library from a marketing perspective and to recommend marketing strategies for school libraries. For the purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted at nine middle schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, and a series of statistical analyses with the survey data was performed in order for hypothesis testing. The results suggest that the effects of the school library marketing including customer loyalty were influenced by the student assistants' activities such as internal and experiential marketing factors. Furthermore, the activities of student library assistants can be linked to word-of-mouth marketing. Based on the results, ways to use student assistants in school library marketing are suggested.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the case of 'drive-thru' services newly introduced and tried in libraries in Korea under the influence of COVID-19, and to develop and propose a service model so that this service can be continuously applied to all libraries in the future. Therefore, the method of study was selected and analyzed by selecting one of the representative libraries that provide related services in Seoul Special City, Incheon Metropolitan City, and Anyang City of Gyeonggi Province. In addition, a focus group interview was conducted with twelve people in charge to find a way to apply the drive-thru service to the library. As a result, the library's drive-thru service is a way to fulfill the library's original purpose of providing information materials while minimizing faceto-face contact with users. It was concluded that it is a suitable method for a library of complex buildings, where there is a lack of parking space. In addition, it was deduced that it may be one of the ways to use the library efficiently for office workers who are unable to use library services during the opening hours. Therefore, if the drive-thru service is implemented according to the developed model, it is expected to increase the library visit rate and data utilization rate.
