넙치의 혈청, 간 및 근육 중 Tributyltin 축적 경향 (Accumulation of Tributyltin (TBT) in Blood, Liver and Muscle of Olive Flounder)

  • Accumulation of tributyltin (TBT) in serum, liver and muscle of olive flounder (Paralichtys olivaceus) was investigated in a 60-d static renewal exposure at $0.1{\mu}g$ TBT/L. Tributyltin accumulated rapidly from 83 ng Sn/g to 2,227 ng Sn/g on a wet weight basis in the serum of the olive flounder and to a greater extent than in the other tissues. The accumulated TBT concentrations in tissues were in the order of serum>liver>muscle on wet or dry-weight basis. High concentrations of dibutyltin (DBT: 990 ng Sn/g dry wt) and monobutyltin (MBT: 141 ng Sn/g dry wt), degradation products of TBT were found in liver of olive flounder at the end of exposure. On the other hand, DBT and MBT was below the detection limits in muscle during the exposure, and only low concentration of DBT (56 ng Sn/g) were detectefd in serum. Butyltin compounds were also quantitatively determined in feral fine-spotted flounder (Pleuronichthys cornutus) collected from Gwangyang Bay as one of polluted area and Sori Island as a reference site. All three butyltin compounds were detected from the fine-spotted flounder from Gwangyang Bay up to 3,107 ng Sn/g of total butyltins in liver, while 120 ng Sn/g of total butyltin concentration was found in the liver of fish from Sori Island.

광양만 임해 매립지 느티나무 식재지 토양의 수직적 특성 변화 (Property Changes of Vertical Soil Layers Planted with Zelkova serrata(Thunberg) Makino on the Reclaimed Land from the Sea in the Gwangyang Bay, Korea)

  • This study was carried out to elucidate the vertical characteristics of soil properties at six planted sites of land reclaimed from the sea, in Gwangyang Bay, Jeollanam-do Province, Korea. Based on the types of planting site, the chemical properties of the vertical soil layers varied. The vertical variation was great in the planting sites $Z_1\;and\;Z_2$, but less varied in the mounded planting sites $Z_3,\;Z_5,\;and\;Z_6$. Major reasons for the vertical variation in soil chemical properties included differences in the accumulation of organic matter, soil disturbance by heavy construction equipment, and heterogeneity of soil properties between soil horizons. As soil depths increased, soil salts varied. The electrical conductivity (ECe) increased in the lower areas of planting sites $Z_1\;and\;Z_2$, and the disturbed, saline planting site $Z_3$, but decreased in the lower areas of $Z_3,\;Z_5,\;and\;Z_6$. These tendencies did not coincided with exchange cation concentrations $(Na^+,\;K^+,\;Mg^{++},\;Ca^{++})$. Both total carbon (T-C) and total nitrogen (T-N) accumulated more in the lower areas of planting sites than in the higher areas, and levels were higher closer to the surface than in the soil depths. It is supposed that these tendencies are related to the accumulation of fallen leaves or other organic matter at the soil surface, and the soil chemicals then slowly move downward from the surface. Impediments to tree growth included soil hardiness, high soil salinity and exchangeable cation concentration, low soil moisture content, acidic or alkaline soil, low organic matter, heterogeneity of soil texture and establishment of soil stratification.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand distribution of ozone concentration in the south coastal region of Korea by evaluating ozone spatial distribution in the upper air using aircraft. Sampling was carried out from May to August in 2009. The average concentration of ozone in the upper air was ranged from 32.3~90.8 ppb with its maximum concentration of 132 ppb. When it comes to the spatial distribution of ozone, ambient concentration was high in the air, 1,000 m and 500 m above the southern sea near the Gwangyang Bay area and emission sources, respectively. Daily mean concentration of NOy was 6.7~24.2 ppb and that of CO was 0.152~0.487 ppm. In addition, the concentration was appeared to be relatively high in the upper air of industrial regions and the southern seas. Meanwhile, the concentration of both $NO_y$ and CO was high in the upper air of the emission sources regardless of latitude. As for PAN, its daily mean concentration ranged between 0.1 and 0.6 ppb with overall mean concentration of 0.2 ppb. The average concentration of VOCs was 48 ppb, and the concentration of toluene and m,p-Xylene were higher than other components.

The Effects of Female Shell Size on Reproductive Potential of the Egg Capsule in Rapa Whelk Rapana venosa in Three Regions of Different Salinities

  • We investigated the effects of shell height on reproductive potential of the female Rapana venosa in three regions of different salinities (the coastal zone of the Gwangyang Bay (S-1); the upper reaches (S-3); lower reaches (S-2) of the Seomjin River). The number of egg capsules, egg capsule height, and fecundity associated with reproductive potential of larger female rapa whelks were higher than those of smaller individuals in all three regions. Correlation analyses showed that there is a significant positive correlation between egg capsule and female shell height. Mean of shell heights, egg capsule heights, the number of egg capsules in an egg mass, and fecundity in an egg capsule produced from female individuals inhabiting S-1 region were markedly higher than those inhabiting S-2 and S-3 regions. In particular, the fecundity of the rapa whelk increased with the salinity and shell height. Although large rapa whelks produced a large number of egg capsules at S-1 region, those at S-3 habitat laid less egg capsules with smaller size. If these rapa whelks were put into S-2 region, the number of egg capsules produced by a female at S-2 region was slightly larger than those produced by a female at S-3 region. This provides a clear evidence that the number of the egg capsules can be controlled by the salinity. In the coastal zone of the Gwangyang Bay and the upper reaches of Seomjin River, the fecundity of this species was estimated to be approximately 182,000-1,302,000 eggs/ind./yr.

광양만 권역의 영역 설정에 따른 입자확산 및 대기질 수치모의 비교 (Numerical Simulation and Comparison of Particle Dispersion and Air Quality with Domain Setting of Gwangyang Bay Area)

  • Recirculation of airmass in coastal region occurs because of the change from land to sea breeze and was shown to produce a contrary result on air quality. This study examines the numerical simulation to analyze the effect of recirculation flow in Gwangyang Bay, Korea. For this purpose two case studies are performed by the WRF-FLEXPART-CMAQ modeling system, each for a different Meso-Synoptic Index. Additionally this research make a comparative study of large domain (Domain L) and small domain (Domain S). The horizontal wind fields are simulated from WRF. Changes in the land-sea breeze have an effect on the particle dispersion modeling. The numerical simulation of air quality is carried out to investigate the recirculation of ozone. Ozone is transported to eastward under strong synoptic condition (Case_strong) because of westerly synoptic flow and this pattern can confirm in all domain. However ozone swept off by the land breeze and then transported to northward along sea breeze under conditions of clear sky and weak winds (Case_weak). In this case re-advected ozone isn't simulate in Domain S. The study found that recirculation of airmass must be concerned when numerical simulation of air quality is performed in coastal region, especially on a sunny day.

공간자기상관 산출을 위한 인접성 정의 방법 비교 (A Comparison of Neighborhood Definition Methods for Spatial Autocorrelation)

  • For the identifying of spatial distribution pattern, Moran's Index(I) which has the range of values from -1 to +1 is common method for the spatial autocorrelation measurement. When I is close to 1, all neighboring features have close to the same value, indicating clustered pattern. Conversely, if the spatial pattern is dispersed, I is close to -1. And I closing to 0 means spatially random pattern. However, this index equation is influenced by how defining the neighboring features for target feature. To compare and understand the difference of neighborhood definition methods, fixed distance neighboring method and Gabriel Network method were used for I. In this study, these two methods were applied to two marine environments with water quality data. One is Gwangyang Bay which has complex geometric coastal structure located in South Sea of Korea. Another is Uljin area adjacent to open sea located in east coast of Korea. The distances between water quality observed locations were relatively regular in Gwangyang Bay, however, irregular in Uljin area. And for the fixed distance method popular Arc GIS tool was used, but, for the Gabriel Network, Visual Basic program was developed to produce Gabriel Network and calculate Moran's I and its Z-score automatically. According to this experimental results, different spatial pattern was showed differently for some data with using of neighboring definition methods. Therefore there is need to choose neighboring definition method carefully for spatial pattern analysis.

The Relationship Between Psychosocial Stress and Allergic Disease Among Children and Adolescents in Gwangyang Bay, Korea

  • Objectives: Stress is considered a causal factor in many diseases, allergic disease being one of them. The prevalence of allergic disease is increasing in Korea, but the relationship between allergic symptoms and stress is not empirically well known. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between allergy-related symptoms and stress in children and adolescents. Methods: We investigated 698 children and adolescents living in Gwangyang Bay, Korea, using a multi-stage cluster sampling method. Using the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood and the Psychosocial Well-being Index, these subjects were surveyed on allergy-related symptoms and psychosocial stressors in their lives, respectively. We used a multivariate logistic analysis for odds ratios for the complaint rate of allergic symptoms, after adjusting for age, gender, household income, body mass index, and residence. Results: After adjustments, lifetime rhinitis (odds ratio [OR], 1.024), rhinoconjunctivitis (OR, 1.090), diagnosis of itchy eczema (OR, 1.040), treatment of itchy eczema (OR, 1.049), 12-month allergic conjunctivitis (OR, 1.026), diagnosis of allergic conjunctivitis (OR, 1.031), and treatment of allergic conjunctivitis (OR, 1.034) were found to be significantly associated with stress. Conclusions: Our results support the notion that there is a relationship between stress and allergic symptoms in children and adolescents. Further research into any causal relationship between stress and allergies, as well as preventative public health plans for decreasing stress in children and adolescents are needed.

광양만 및 섬진강 하구에서의 프탈레이트 화합물의 분포 특성 (Distribution of Phthalate Compounds in Gwangyang Bay and Seomjin River Estuary)

  • 광양만과 섬진강 하구에서 내분비계장애물질의 일종인 프탈레이트 화합물의 분포 특성을 국내에서는 처음으로 연구하였다. Di-butyl phthalate (DBP)와 di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate(DBHP)를 비롯한 9종의 프탈레이트 및 adipate를 분석 대상으로 선정했다. DBP와 DEHP가 가장 높은 빈도와 농도로 검출되었으며, 다른 화합물은 거의 검출되지 않았거나 검출한계 이하였다 광양만 표층퇴적물에서 DBP와 DEHP의 평균 농도는 각각 33.8 ng g$^{-1}$와 67.4 ng g$^{-1}$이었다. 섬진강 하구에서는 표층수에서 DBP가 62.7∼333.8 ng L$^{-1}$농도 범위로 검출되었으며, DEHP는 25.6∼l16.1 ng L$^{-1}$ 범위로 검출되었다. 섬진강 및 하구 표층 퇴적물 시료 중의 DBP의 농도는 9.1∼149.3 ng g$^{-1}$, DEHP는 46.3∼156.3 ng g$^{-1}$으로 검출되었다. 광양만에서 DBP와 DEHP는 공단 일대와 생활 하수가 배출되는 하천 주변부에서 높은 농도를 보였으며, 광양만 외해로 갈수록 농도가 적어지는 경향을 보였다. 섬진강에서는 안쪽에서 높은 농도를 보이다가 서서히 감소하지만 일부 정점에서 높은 농도로 검출되었다. 이러한 분포 경향은 하천을 통해 광양만으로 DBP와 DEHP가 유입되고 있음을 시사한다.

광양만 주변해역 표층퇴적물에서의 다환방향족탄화수소류(PAHs)의 오염에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Pollution of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons(PAHs) in the Surface Sediments Around Gwangyang Bay)

  • PAHs는 해양환경 중에 넓게 분포되어 있으며 인간활동에 의한 화석연료 이용으로 PAHs의 오염이 광범위하게 일어나고 있다. PAHs는 잠재적으로 해양 수서환경 생물에 발암성과 돌연변이를 일으키고 있다. 본 연구는 여수화학공단, 광양제철소와 콘테이너부두가 자리잡고 있는 광양만의 표층퇴적물에서의 PAHs를 Soxhlet Extractor를 이용하여 추출하여 GC-MS로 PAHs 13종을 검출하였고 TOC(Total Oragnic Carbon)와 입도분석을 행하였다. 분석된 퇴적물에서 PAHs 화합물 모두가 검출되었으며 Total PAHs 범위는 $171.40{\sim}1013.54{\mu}g/kg$ dry wt.로 검출되었다. PAHs 화합물중 Naphthalene이 $14.08{\sim}691.39{\mu}g/kg$ dry wt.로 거의 모든 시료에서 가장 높게, Anthracene이 $0.49{\sim}22.66{\mu}g/kg$ dry wt.로 가장 낮게 나타났다. Total PAHs와 PAHs 화합물의 상관관계는 Naphthalene, Phenanthrene과 같은 저분자량 물질에서 높은 상관관계를 나타내었다. P/A(Phenanthrene/Anthracene)비 와 F/P(Fluoranthene/Pyrene)비의 결과에 의하면 연소기원과 유류오염 기원의 복합적인 영향을 받는 것으로 보여진다. Total PAHs와 TOC와의 상관계수는 높지는 않지만 양의 상관관계를 나타내었으며, 입도와의 상관관계는 높지는 않지만 퇴적물 입자의 크기가 세립 할수록 PAHs와 상관관계가 있음이 나타났다. 광양만 표층퇴적물에서 PAHs의 검출농도는 생물학적 영향에 대한 기준(biological effect guidelines)에 비해 낮은 값을 보여주고 있다.

세포화학적 방법을 이용한 남해안 조간대에 서식하는 참굴(Crassostrea gigas) 소화맹낭 세포 내 리소솜 활동 측정에 관한 연구 (Cytochemical Measurement of Lysosomal Responses in the Digestive Cells of Wild Pacific Oyster, Crassostrea gigas on the South Coast of Korea)

  • 이매패류의 소화맹낭은 고도로 발달된 리소솜 시스템을 지니고 있어 소화작용과 함께 오염물질의 해독과 배출작용을 담당한다. 따라서 소화맹낭의 리소솜 시스템은 환경변화에 민감하게 반응한다고 알려져 있다. 이 연구에서는 동결절편을 이용한 조직학적 방법으로 조간대에 서식하는 참굴 소화맹낭의 리소솜 활동을 측정하였다. 참굴은 2010년 6월 광양만 내만의 초남대교, 차면리와 외만의 신덕리, 평산리 조간대에 서식하는 굴을 채집하였다. 제작된 동결절편을 이용하여 lysosomal membrane stability(LMS) 및 lipofuscin(LF) 축적, neutral lipid(NL) 축적, 소화맹낭 위축도(digestive gland atrophy, DGA)를 평가하였다. 비만도 및 소화맹낭 위축도는 내만에 서식하는 참굴이 다른 지역에 비해 유의적으로 낮았다(P<0.05). LMS는 내만이 외만에 비해 짧은 리소솜 막 불안정화 시간을 보였지만 지역별 통계적인 유의차는 없었다. LF 축적은 내만에 서식하는 참굴이 유의적으로 높은 축적을 보였지만(P<0.05), NL 축적의 경우 외만에 서식하는 참굴이 유의적으로 높은 축적을 보였다(P<0.05). DGA와 LF의 경우 내만과 외만에서 뚜렷한 차이를 보였고, 이는 환경오염의 수준과 관련 있을 것으로 사료된다. 따라서 이 두 가지 분석항목은 연안환경평가에서 좋은 biomarker로 사용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
