Independent Color Filtering of Differently Polarized Light Using Metal-Insulator-Metal Type Guided Mode Resonance Structure

  • The independent operation of a color filter for incident polarization is demonstrated using a guided-mode resonance (GMR) filter employing a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguide. To achieve independent operation, a rectangular MIM grating is proposed as a wave-guide resonator. The design considerations are discussed and include how to determine the grating period and slit width. Power flow distribution is observed with slit width variation. Blue-green, green-red, and blue-red filters for corresponding x- and y-polarizations are demonstrated as application examples with numerical simulation with rectangle-shaped MIM grating. As a practical application, feasibility as a chromatic polarizer is discussed.

도파로공진을 이용한 슬롯도파로 포화흡수체 반사기 (Saturable Absorber Reflectors Based on Guided-mode Resonance in Slot Waveguides)

  • 본 논문에서는 도파모드공진을 이용한 포화흡수체 반사기를 제안하였다. 포화흡수체로는 탄소나노튜브(CNT)를 사용하였다. 제안된 반사기는 CNT의 두께 변화 없이 modulation depth를 키울 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 제안하는 반사기의 fill factor(F)와 CNT의 두께변화에 따른 modulation depth, 대역폭, 포화되었을 때의 최대 반사율의 특징을 알아보았다. 제안된 반사기는 포화에너지를 줄일 수 있다는 장점이 있고, 100~200nm 얇은 CNT박막에서 50배정도 줄어드는 것을 확인 하였다.

다층 유전체 격자구조에 의한 공진 산란특성의 분석 (Analysis of Resonance Scattering Characteristics by Multi-layered Dielectric Gratings)

  • 다층 유전체 격자에 입사하는 평면파에 의해 생성 된 공간 고조파들은 GMR 특성으로 알려진 강한 공진 산란 변화를 겪는다. 이러한 효과를 명확히 분석하기 위하여 본 논문에서는 산란 문제의 정확한 등가전송선로 이론(RETT)을 사용하여 격자 영역 내부의 전파특성과 분산곡선을 조사하였다. 그 결과, 산란 공진의 최대 크기에서 산란된 모드와 격자 구조에 의하여 발생하는 누설 모드가 거의 동일하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 누설파의 자유 공명 특성과 관련된 GMR 효과가 다층 유전체 격자구조에서 발생한다는 이전 연구를 확인하고 일반화하였다. 전형적인 격자의 공진특성을 보여주는 정량적인 수치해석 결과가 주어졌으며 TM 모드가 반사면에 수직 입사된 특수한 경우를 논의하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 실리콘 태양전지의 흡수효율 증가를 위해 도파모드 공진 특성을 이용한 격자 구조를 제안하였다. 도파모드 공진을 이용함으로써 두께를 ~200 nm 수준으로 줄이면서도 높은 흡수율을 기대할 수 있는 태양전지 설계가 가능함을 확인하였다. 제안된 구조는 은으로 된 반사경 위에 격자구조를 갖는 Poly-Si 유전체 층이 존재하는 1-D 구조로서 각 구조변수들 즉 격자의 주기, 유전체 두께, 격자 간격 및 깊이 등이 흡수 효율에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 알아보고, 변수들의 조절을 통해 최적의 구조를 찾고자 시도하였다. PSO알고리즘을 사용하여 제안된 구조의 적절성을 확인 하였으며, 이로부터 65.8%의 유효 흡수율을 얻을 수 있었다.

Lasing of Coupled Guided Modes in Modified Hollow Hexagonal Semiconductor Cavities

  • Coupled guided modes, proposed in various modified hollow hexagonal cavities each attached internally to a hexagon, were demonstrated by investigating the laser oscillations in semiconductor cavities. The mode spacing between two adjacent lasing peaks decreased as the size of the internal hexagon increased, due to the increased round-trip length of the coupled guided modes. The linear dependency of the inverse mode spacing to the calculated round-trip length strongly confirmed the lasing of the coupled guided modes. The proposed modes in common-sized external cavities showed resonance structure that could be adjusted widely by controlling the size of the internal hexagon.

Highly-Dispersive Guided Modes of Two-Dimensional Photonic Crystal Waveguides

  • We present an analysis of highly-dispersive guided modes of two-dimensional photonic crystal waveguides. By the plane ave expansion method, band structures and mode profiles of two-dimensional photonic crystal waveguides are obtained. It is found that guided modes have very small group velocities and very large group velocity dispersions in the region near the f-point and in the region near the Brillouin zone edge. Especially, the group velocity dispersions are found to be millions of times larger than that of a conventional optical fiber. The contributions of the transverse resonance formed by two photonic band gap reflectors and the standing wave mode formed by periodic structures are discussed. We conclude that the highly-dispersive characteristics originate from the resonator-like aspect of the photonic crystal waveguide.

비대칭 다층 유전체 격자구조에 의한 GMR 현상의 분석 (Analysis of GMR Phenomenon by Asymmetric Multi-layered Dielectric Gratings)

  • 비대칭 다층 유전체 격자구조에 입사된 평면파는 대칭 격자구조와 같이 공간 고조파들을 생성한다. 이 성분들 중에 특정 공간 고조파는 GMR 특성으로 알려진 강한 공진 산란 변화를 겪는다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 효과를 명확히 분석하기 위하여 고유치 문제에 기인한 정확한 등가전송선로 이론(RETT)을 사용하여 격자 영역 내부의 공진현상과 분산특성을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 산란 공진의 peak에서 격자구조에 의하여 발생한 반사 모드와 격자구조에서 전송되는 누설 모드가 거의 일치한다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 누설파의 자유 공명 특성과 관련된 GMR 효과가 비대칭 다층 유전체 격자구조에서도 발생한다는 것을 확인하고 일반화하였다. 전형적인 격자의 공진특성을 보여주는 정량적인 수치해석 결과가 주어졌으며 TE, TM 모드가 반사면에 수직 입사된 특수한 경우도 논의하였다.

An Enhanced Skirt Characteristics Triple-Mode Filter

  • This paper presents a compact microstrip triple-mode filter with enhanced skirt characteristics. The presented triple-mode filter configuration supports three transmission poles and three transmission zeros within the nearby passband. Two of transmission zeros are generated by a triple-mode resonator itself, and the third one is generated by small cross-couplings between the I/O ports. Each resonance condition and the transmission zero generation conditions are analyzed using an equivalent circuit. The bandpass filter is designed for a 2.4 GHz WLAN. The filter was fabricated with a relative dielectic constant of 3.5 and a thickness of 0.76 mm. The fabricated filter has a small size ($7.9mm{\times}7.2mm$, i.e., $0.107{\lambda}_g{\times}0.098{\lambda}_g$, where ${\lambda}_g$ is guided wavelength at a center frequency) and shows high performing skirt characteristics.

단부 경계조건을 고려한 매설관의 동적응답 해석 (II) (Analysis of Seismic Response of the Buried Pipeline with Pipe End Conditions (II))

  • This work reports results of our study on the dynamic responses of the buried pipelines both along the axial and the transverse directions under various boundary end conditions. We have considered three cases, i.e., the free ends, the fixed ends, and the fixed-free ends for the axial direction, and three more cases including the guided ends, the simply supported ends, and the supported-guided ends for the transverse direction. In order to investigate the effect of the boundary end conditions for the dynamic responses of the buried pipeline, we have devised a computer program to find the solutions of the formulae on the dynamic responses (displacements, axial strains, and bending strains) under the various boundary end conditions considered in this study. The dynamic behavior of the buried pipelines for the forced vibration is found to exhibit two different forms, a transient response and a steady state response, depending on the time before and after the transfer of a seismic wave on the end of the buried pipeline. The former is identified by a slight change in its behavior before the sinusoidal-shaped seismic wave travels along the whole length of the pipeline whereas the latter by the complete form of a sinusoidal wave when the wave travels throughout the pipeline. The transient response becomes insignificant as the wave speed increases. We have observed a resonance when the mode wavelength matches the wavelength of the seismic wave, where the mode number(k) of resonance for the axial direction is found to be $\overline{\omega}/{\pi}V+1/2$ for the fixed-free ends, $\overline{\omega}/{\pi}V+1$ for the free ends, and $\overline{\omega}/{\pi}V$ for the fixed ends, respectively. By adding 10 more modes to the mode number(k) of resonance, we were able to study all the dynamic responses of the buried pipeline for the axial direction. On the other hand, we have not been able to observe a resonance in the analysis for the transverse direction, because the dynamic responses are found to vanish after the seventh mode. From the results of the dynamic responses at the many points of the pipeline, we have found that the responses appeared to be dependent critically on the boundary end conditions. Such effects are found to be most prominent especially for the maximum values of the displacement and the strain and its position.
