  • Grown-in defects like OISF and FPD in the large diameter(> 8 inch)of silicon crystal are characterized. It was revealed that the presence of the ring-patterned OISF would deterorate the minority life time of the silicon crystal. Through the cooling experiment from the $1250^{\circ}C$, the nucleation of the OISF was confirmed to follow the homogeneous nucleation and growth process. In addition to OISF nucleus, crystal originated particle, which was known to be closely related with FPD (Flow Pattern Defects), was found to depend on the pulling rate of the crystal. Combination of the lower rate of the pulling and the faster cooling near the $950^{\circ}C$ is proposed to be effective method in reducing the generation of these grown-in defects.

  • A flux determination methodology has been built which enables to develop constrained stoichiometric relationships and metabolic balances. The analysis differs from those developed for anaerobic growth conditions in that cell mass formation is a significant sink for carbon. When combined with experimental measurements, a determined system of equations results yielded tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle and glycolytic fluxes. The methodology was implemented to determine the fluxes of E. coli B/r and K12, and it was found that as the growth rate in a glucose minimal medium increased, the cells became increasing glycolytic and the TCA fluxes either leveled off or declined. The pattern identified for the TCA fluxes corresponded to ${\alpha}$-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase's induction-repression pattern, thereby suggesting that the induction-repression of the enzyme could result in significant flux changes. When the minimum flux solution was contrasted to the glycolytic and TCA fluxes determined, two observations were made. First, the minimum flux could provide the cell's biosynthetic ATP requirements. Second, at a high growth rate in a glucose medium, the excess glycolytic flux exceeded that of the TCA cycle, which appeared to more closely match the biosynthetic needs.

  • The hepatitis A virus (HAV) induces severe acute liver injury and is adapted to human and monkey cell lines but not other cells. In this study, the HAV was inoculated into porcine kidney (PK-15) cells to determine its infectivity in porcine cells. The growth pattern of the HAV in PK-15 cells was compared with its growth pattern in fetal rhesus kidney (FRhK-4) cells. The growth of HAV was less efficient in PK-15 cells. In conclusion, HAV replication was verified in PK-15 cells for the first time. Further investigations will be needed to identify the HAV-restrictive mechanisms in PK-15 cells.

  • Because the Ultra-Precision Technology increase its competitiveness in the field of the design, precision of processing technology, confidence and fixation degree are major considerations. According to Pattern shapes using these processing technologies, Light Reflection has influence on the sense of sight about human being. Based on background of these studies, we draw a plan about a round workpiece using a 3D design program and analyze the effect on Light Reflection changing a pattern angle and a source of light through SPEOS program in this research. We make Pattern form as V-Shape, and compare the area distributed by Light Reflection by classifying angle into 4 and analyze changes according to a source of light. In order to measure and evaluate the data from simulation analysis we has manufactured Diamond Tool and has processed Pattern precision using a Ultra-Precision Machine. Based on the result of this study, we forecast that the field of design will achieve rapid growth due to Ultra-Precision Technology in the world market.

  • The Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) provides information about the volume growth of a tree. In this study, we estimated the relative growth rates of Castanea crenata and Pinus rigida as 4.07% and 3.73%, respectively. Although the difference was low, we demonstrated that the growth rate of C. crenata is slightly faster than that of P. rigida. After calculating the relative growth rate for each section, we found that the relative growth of C. crenata decreased with time. However, the relative growth rate of P. rigida showed an overall increase. The gap widths of both species showed an increasing trend. However, the gradient of the two species was different. The gradient of C. crenata was approximately 12.0, but that of P. rigida was approximately 4.7. This means that the volume growth of C. crenata was faster than that of P. rigida during 4 years. However, this was relatively a short period for measuring the volume growth pattern, and we believe that additional useful information can be obtained by conducting long-term ecological monitoring. Results of canonical correspondence analysis showed that among the climate variables, temperature was significantly related to the gap widths for both species.

  • The present study was carried out to evaluate the correlation of metastasis and prognostic factors in squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck. Examination was performed on a series of thirty-seven patients who were confirmed to squamous cell carcinoma and its lymphatic metastasis by pathologist. Correlations of metastasis and other factors such as angiogenesis, histologic grading, and p53 expression and ras oncogene were studied. The depth of tumors was around 1 to 27mm. Twenty cases were more than 10mm deep, of which seventeen cases were shown lymphatic metastasis. Total score of histologic grading including keratinization, nuclear atypia, growth pattern and intensity of inflammation was ranged from 5 to 10 points. Of these factors, nuclear atypia with intensity of inflammation, and nuclear atypia with growth pattern was correlated with nuclear atypia each. For angiogenesis, number of new-formed vessels were counted 13 to 58 each. Twenty-eight cases were shown to lymphatic metastasis. No correlation with histologic grading and lymphatic metastasis was found. The results of immunohistochemical staining for p53 and ras oncogene revealed that positive cases were 16 and 22, negative for 21 and 15 each. However, both were not correlated with histologic grading and lymphatic metastasis. These results were revealed that angiogenesis was not correlated with lymphatic metastasis of squamous cell carcinoma arising in head and neck. Nuclear atypia with intensity of inflammation and dysplasia with growth pattern were correlated with histologic grading, which suggested that more careful and adequate advice is needed for effective treatment.
