  • The focus of this study was to observe the growth of Chlorella sp., Nannochloris sp., and Botryococcus braunii under mixotrophic conditions (i.e., added glycerol) with the aim of increasing the growth of biomass and algae oil content. A significant growth of biomass was obtained when grown in glycerol rich environment comparing to autotrophic conditions. 5 g/L glycerol yielded the highest biomass concentration for these strains. Mixotrophic conditions improved both the growth of the microalgae and the accumulation of triacylglycerols (TAGs). The maximum amount of TAG in Botryococcus braunii was reached in the growth medium with 10 g/L glycerol and Chlorella sp., Nannochloris sp. with 2 g/L glycerol. The content of saturated fatty acids of Chlorella sp., Nannochloris sp., and Botryococcus braunii was found to be 34.94, 14.23 and 13.39%, and the amount of unsaturated fatty acids was 65.06, 85.78 and 86.61% of total fatty acids, respectively. The fatty acid profiles of the oil for the culture possibility met the necessary requirements and are, therefore, promising resource for biofuel production.

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically ascertain how the fitness between marketing strategy each firm chooses and environment facing each firm affects the performance of firms measured by the growth rate of market share and the growth rate of profit/sales ratio. In doing so, firms are divided into three groups. With regard to the marketing strategy, firms are classified into three groups based on marketing strategy type; prospector, analyzer, and defender. The main result of this study are as follows: First, responding firms are classified into prospector, analyzer, and defender following Miles & Snow's marketing strategy types. This classification is made using a self typing method and further confirmed by a factor analysis using a number of variables relating marketing objectives and marketing mix. Second, the results show that there are significant differences across marketing strategies in the performance measures of the growth rate of market share and profit/sales ratio. It seems, however, that there is no straight forward relationship between the marketing strategy and the performance measures. This strongly implies that the type of marketing strategy to be adopted by each firm should depend on the environment facing each firm. Third, the result indicates that the growth rate of market share tends to depend only on the marketing strategy type regardless of sufficiency and variation of environment, but profit/sales ratio tends to depend on the fitness between marketing strategy type and environment. It implies that a firm should adopt different marketing strategies for different environment characteristics, in order to enhance the efficiency of resources used reflected in the profit/sales ratio.

  • Ahead of the second basic plan which starts in 2015, tasks needed to improve air quality and encourage green growth in the Seoul Metropolitan Area have been investigated. To date, many research findings indicate that climate change is ongoing and continues to accelerate in the Northeast Asia due to several factors, including unparalleled anthropogenic air emissions from China. An intensive field study is proposed that would target the Seoul Metropolitan Area and would be conducted in collaboration with the international scientific community. While focused on environmental issues in Korea, this study would also benefit the international community by providing insights that can be applied to address similar problems around the world. In addition to the basic plan's emphasis on improving air quality, there is a need to promote green growth through environment-friendly development. It is proposed that green growth be interpreted as a comprehensive concept, targeting all environmental pollution, rather than being limited to low-carbon goals. It is further proposed that the success of environment-friendly development be measured in terms of risk reduction, energy and resources conservation, economic benefits, and employment expansion.

  • Branching growth pattern of Mugnolza denuduta is likely to be originated from two growth strategies: environment overcoming strategy and life maintenance strategy, which coexist in a tree. Growth rate of branches was strongly correlated with relative light intensity (P<0.001) and physical contact (P<0.01), however there is no significant correlation between growth rate and direction of branch. When relative light intensity is less than 1%, the growth was restricted by physical contact with the surrounding branches. In contrast, the growth was rarely restricted by physical contact when relative light intensitiy was 10% or more. The branching rate was significantly affected by the presence or absence of physical contact (P<0.05), but it was not significantly affected by relative light intensity nor by the direction of branch. In the beginning stage of the growth, the ratio of the material allocation from main branch to subbranch was large and varied with the influence of surrounding environment. These various growth rates, which implicate a variety of material allocation ratios (0.16~0.98), affect branch growth pattern through the optimum growth strategies. The growth and arrangement of branches of Magnolia denudata display the solar collectors to maximize the total amount of energy absorbed and to overcome the restriction of the environment.

  • To investigate phytotoxic substances in some donor plants and their biological activities, seed germination and seedling growth of receptor plants were examined at different concentrations of aqueous extracts and essential oils of the donor plants. Germination of some receptor species was inhibited by the extracts, while seedling growth was decreased to a lesser degree than in the germination test. Germination, seedling growth and dry weight growth of Achyranthes japonica grown in pot were proportionally inhibited by the extracts. Volatile substances emitted some donor plants caused inhibitory effects in the germination and seedling growth of the receptor species. Essential oil of the plants extracted by Karlsruker's apparatus Inhibited growth of microorganisms, callus growth and root hair development of receptor plants. The cortical cells at the root tips of Latuca sativa treated with essential oils showed contraction of the cytoplasm, resulting in plasma membranes becoming detached from the cell walls and the cells metamorphosing irregularity. Accumulation of lipid granules Inside contracted cytoplasm and degeneration of mitochondrial cristae were also observed. The GC/MS method was employed for analysis and identification of allelochemicals from donor plants. Sixty-one chemical substances such as camphene, cineole etc. were identified from essential oils of Artemisia argyi.

  • The limit of crop cultivation is moving northward due to the temperature rise by climate change. There is a problem with crop growth if early sowing is performed at a time when the temperature is low. It is difficult to secure crop productivity and cultivation stability due to the low temperature and short cultivation period. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the change in growth characteristics and yield of corn for grain when early sowing is performed in central region of South Korea. This experiment was conducted at experimental field of Suwon in 2021. Three varieties of corn for grain such as Kwangpyeongok, Sinhwangok, and Hwangdaok were sown at intervals of 5 days from 20 March to 15 April. The planting density at this time was sown with a row interval of 70 cm and a plant interval of 25 cm. Nitrogen, phosphoric acid, and potassium fertilizers were applied at 17.4 kg, 3.0 kg, and 6.9 kg per 10a, respectively. Phosphoric acid and potassium fertilizers were all applied before sowing and nitrogen fertilizer was applied 50% before sowing and 50% in the fifth leaf period. The corn growth characteristics and yield components were investigated. The seedling establishment rate by sowing date was in the range of 68.5~88.5%, and it showed a difference depending on the variety. The range of days from sowing to tassel and silk emergence by sowing date was 79.9~98.4 and 81.0~98.9 days, respectively. As the sowing date was delayed, the days from sowing to tassel and silk emergence decreased. The growth characteristics and yield of corn by sowing date are as follows. Plant height was the highest at 241.3 cm at the sowing on 25 March, and Stalk diameter was the thickest at 25.6 mm at the sowing on 31 March. The fresh weight per plant was the highest at 728 g at the sowing on 25 March, and the dry weight per plant was the highest at 185 g at the sowing on 31 March. Corn growth characteristics did not show a certain trend depending on the sowing date, and corn growth was more vigorous at the sowing on March 25 and 31 than the others. In the case of ear weight, it was the heaviest with 344 g at the sowing on 25 March, and filled ear length ratio showed a tendency to decrease as the sowing time was delayed. The weight of 100 grains and grain yield per 10a of maize were the highest at 36.0g and 878.7kg/10a, respectively at the sowing on 25 March. Although the growth and yield of corn for grain were good during early sowing in the central region of South Korea, it is necessary to investigate the limit temperature for early sowing of corn by examining the annual variation according to weather conditions.

  • Heat stress is known to affect physiological systems in goats. This study investigated changes in nutrient digestibility, behavior and growth hormone secretion among goats in a hot environment (H; 35${\pm}$ 1.2$^{\circ}C$, [RH] 80${\pm}$7.2%, 13 d), and in a thermoneutral environment (T; 20${\pm}$0.6$^{\circ}C$, [RH] 80${\pm}$3.4%, 20 d), and accompanied by the same restricted diet as provided in the hot environment. The following results were obtained: rectal temperature and water intake were higher in the H treatment than in the T treatment or TR treatment, while hay consumption was lower. CP, NDF and ADF digestibility was highest in H treatment. Time spent eating in the H treatment was also the highest, followed in order by T treatment and TR treatment. Ruminating time was lower in H treatment than in T treatment or TR treatment, and reposing time was highest in the TR treatment. Growth hormone concentrations in T increased 4.5 h after feeding. In H, growth hormone concentrations increased 0.5 h after feeding. However, growth hormone concentrations were not changed following TR feeding. In conclusion, heat exposure in goats decreased feed intake, but increased digestibility. However, when goats in a thermoneutral environment received the same restricted feeding as they received in the hot environment, digestibility increased. Between the H treatment and TR treatment, the changes in digestibility were accomplished by coordinate changes in hormone secretion in order to maintain body homeostasis. To maintain energy balance under a hot temperature or a restricted feeding condition, goats may control their metabolism by changing growth hormone release.

  • We investigated the effects on various crops of inoculation with species of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in soils from different sources and selected AMF species suitable for domestic environment-friendly farming. Effects on plants varied with the AMF species used. In carrot, Scutellospora heterogama, Acaulospora longula, and Funneliformis mosseae had a positive effect on growth of the host, whereas AMF had only weak effects on the growth of red pepper and leek. AMF inoculation had positive effects on the growth of carrot and sorghum. The results of this study indicate the nature of the relationship between soil, plants, and AMF; this study therefore has important implications for the future use of AMF in environment-friendly agriculture.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate growth response and toxigenicity under various temperature and nutritional conditions, in order to understand the physioecological characteristics of Aphanizomenon flos-aquae, which is a bloom-forming cyanobacterium in the Nakdong River. The strain was inoculated into media under combinations of four temperatures (4, 12, 21, $30^{\circ}C$) and three nutrients (modified CB medium, P-depleted CB medium, N-depleted CB medium) for 28 days. The algae-inhibition tests were performed to assess the potential allelopathic effects of the strains' filtrates on the growth of four algae strains (Microcystis aeruginosa, Aulacoseria ambigua f. spiralis, Aphanizomenon flos-aquae, Scenedesmus obliquus). Toxin production of a strain was measured by Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSolbent Assay (ELISA). The optimal growth temperature (Topt) of strains was $19.9^{\circ}C$ ($18.3-21.2^{\circ}C$), and the temperature range for growth was from $-0.3^{\circ}C$ to $34.3^{\circ}C$. Specific growth rate (${\mu}$) in modified CB medium varied from 0.10 to $0.16day^{-1}$, and the maximum growth rate (${\mu}_{max}$) was $0.17day^{-1}$. Although growth curves under N-existed and N-depleted conditions were almost the same, growth under N-depleted condition was relatively slowed (${\mu}=0.09$ to $0.14day^{-1}$), with a decreased maximum cell density. However, growth under the P-depleted condition was restricted for all temperatures, Two stains of Aphanizomenon flos-aquae were confirmed as not producing toxins, because saxitoxin and cylindrospermopsin were not detected by ELISA. The exudates or filtrates from the Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (DGUC003) resulted in significant inhibition of algal growth on the Aulacoseira ambigua f. spiralis (DGUD001) and Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (DGUC001) (p < 0.01).

  • This study is about psychological growth environment and style of loving among 88 men and 128 women in university students. The results of this study are following. First, the result of psychological growth environment and style of loving among university students show that men have expectation for the achievement and encouragement more than women as they are moved up the higher grade. Largely when they are moved up the higher grade, they respect individual opinion and have responsibility for their behaviors. Also they tend to have the cooperation in their home. So as they are moved up the higher grade, they have the independent spirit from their parents and are prepared to adaptability for social life. Second, the result of the style of loving show that men tend to fall in love easily and also pursuit altruistic and romantic love. According to being moved up the higher grade, they have the actual attitude in the intercourse with the other sex. Third, the result of psychological growth environment show that persons who want to come true their desire more need the friendly love, altruistic love and love for amusement. Contrarily, when they don't communicate each other in their home, they tend to pursuit love for amusement. When they have the higher level of communication and cooperation in their psychological environment, they tend to pursuit for logical love. When they have expectation of mutual role, mutual intimacy, love and respect, they pursuit friendly love. Also through they are adapt for style of social behaviors in each other, they acpuire the love and respect between family members. And they pursuit friendly love through it.
