We develop a business model for facade cleaning service robot system that provides service by meeting the market needs and environments. The size of the facade cleaning market is growing rapidly in recent years due to the increasing importance of indoor space and the modern trend of building construction methods. Also, maintenance of exterior appearance of buildings has become an important factor in residential and commercial facilities. Though demand for facade cleaning services is rising, the current facade cleaning services are performed dangerously in a human labor-dependent way. It is desirable that the existing human resource service should be replaced with robot-based services. In addition, quantitative analysis of rental pricing model was conducted to propose effective launch of products to the market. The robot system is economically attractive from the consumer's point of view. When the actual facade cleaning robot service is released, it is expected that verification of the business models and more accurate analysis with specific figures can be performed.
Self-growing software is a software system that has the capability of evolving its functionalities and configurations by itself based on dynamically monitored situations. Self-growing software is especially necessary for intelligent service robots, which must have the capability to monitor their surrounding environments and provide appropriate behaviors for human users. However, it is hard to anticipate all situations that robots face with, and it is hard to make robots have all functionalities for various environments. In addition, robots have limited internal capacity. To support self-growing software for intelligent service robots, we are developing a cell-based distributed repository system that allows robots and developers transparently to share robot functionalities. To accomplish the creation of evolutionary repositories, we invented the concept of a cell, which is a logical group of distributed repositories based upon the functionalities of components. In addition, a cell can be used as a unit for the evolutionary growth of the components within the repositories. In this paper, we describe the requirements and architecture of the cell-based repository system for self-growing software. We also present a prototype implementation and experiment of the repository system. Through the cell-based repositories, we achieve improved performance of self-growing actions for robots and efficient sharing of components among robots and developers.
In robot industries, the request to obtain a high efficiency and accurately controlled electric actuator has been growing. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of electric actuators is significantly affected by the presence of factors such as nonlinearity, uncertain disturbance and unknown dynamics. Therefore, it makes difficult to derive an exact mathematical model of the controlled system. In this paper, a new method for easily recognizing and regenerating robot motions used in small size industries such as painting and welding parts is proposed. Instead of modeling the entire dynamic motion of the robot system, this method is based on the procedure of modeling and controller design for every arm individually. The proposed method does not require complex model and control system such that it gives easy working process to the small size industries. Based on this fact, in this research, the model and PID controller for every arm of the 3 DOF robot system are obtained separately. Some experimental results are implemented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Recent years have witnessed a growing demand for a wide variety of high-performance industrial robots. In this paper, for accurate gain tuning of a 6-axis articulated industrial robot with reduced noise, a program routine for a dynamic signal analyzer (DSA) using the frequency response method will be programmed using $LabVIEW^{(R)}$. Then, robot transfer functions can be obtained experimentally using the frequency response method with the DSA program. Data from the robot transfer functions are transformed into Bode plots, based on which an optimal gain tuning will be executed. Gain tuning can enhance the response quality of the output signal for a given input signal during real-time control of the robot. The effectiveness of our proposed technique will be verified by implementation with a (lab-manufactured) 6-axis articulated industrial robot (hereinafter called "RS2") and comparison with the zero position gain tuning, as well as other positions.
Recently, a smart farm technology is drawing attention as an alternative to the decline of farm labor population problems due to the aging society. Especially, there is an increasing demand for automatic harvesting system that can be commercialized in the market. Pre-harvest crop detection is the most important issue for the harvesting robot system in a real-world environment. In this paper, we proposed a real-time tomato instance tracking algorithm by using deep learning and probability models. In general, It is hard to keep track of the same tomato instance between successive frames, because the tomato growing environment is disturbed by the change of lighting condition and a background clutter without a stochastic approach. Therefore, this work suggests that individual tomato object detection for each frame is conducted by YOLOv3 model, and the continuous instance tracking between frames is performed by Kalman filter and probability model. We have verified the performance of the proposed method, an experiment was shown a good result in real-world test data.
Robotics and automation are rapidly growing in the industries replacing human labor. The idea of robots replacing humans is positively influencing the business thereby increasing its scope of research. This paper discusses the development of an experimental platform controlled by a robotic arm through Robot Operating System (ROS). ROS is an open source platform over an existing operating system providing various types of robots with advanced capabilities from an operating system to low-level control. We aim in this work to control a 7-DOF manipulator arm (Robai Cyton Gamma 300) equipped with an external vision camera system through ROS and demonstrate the task of balancing a ball on a plate-type end effector. In order to perform feedback control of the balancing task, the ball is designed to be tracked using a camera (Sony PlayStation Eye) through a tracking algorithm written in C++ using OpenCV libraries. The joint actuators of the robot are servo motors (Dynamixel) and these motors are directly controlled through a low-level control algorithm. To simplify the control, the system is modeled such that the plate has two-axis linearized motion. The developed system along with the proposed approaches could be used for more complicated tasks requiring more number of joint control as well as for a testbed for students to learn ROS with control theories in robotics.
With the growing acceptance of the educational benefits for the use of robot- based teaching, their use in classrooms is increasing. However, the vast majority of studies taking place are based within normal classroom environment. Therefore, this study was focused on the adaptations that need to be made for the use of robot-based teaching within a special-needs environment, specifically a program for pre-service teachers of a special needs Elementary school. The results indicate robot-based teaching has a place within special education and it is hoped that this study will spur further investigation into the field.

For last couple of decades, uses of TFI-LCDs have been expanded to many FPD(Flat Panel Display) applications including mobile displays, desktop monitors and TVs. Furthermore, there has been growing demand for increasingly larger LCD TVs. In order to meet this demand as well as to improve productivity, LCD manufactures have continued to install larger-generation display fabrication facilities which are capable of producing more panels and larger displays per mother glass(substrate). As the size of mother glass becomes larger, a robot required to handle the glass becomes bigger accordingly, and its end effectors(arms) are extended to match the glass size. With this configuration, a considerable static deflection occurs at the end of the robot arms. In order to stack maximum number of mother glasses on a given footprint, the static deflection should be compensated. This paper presents a novel static deflection compensation algorithm. This algorithm requires neither measurement instrument nor additional vertical axis on the robot. It is realized by robot controller software. The forward and inverse kinematics considering compensation always guarantees a unique solution, so the proposed algorithm can be applied to an arbitrary robot position. The algorithm reduced static deflection by 40% in stationary robot state experiment. It also improved vertical path accuracy up to 60% when the arm was running at its maximum speed. This algorithm has been commercialized and successfully applied to a seventh-generation LCD glass-handling robot.

We present a self-localization method for mobile robots using vertical line features of indoor environment. When a 2D map including feature points and color information is given, a mobile robot moves to the destination, and acquires images from the surroundings having vertical line edges by one camera. From the image, vertical line edges are detected, and pattern vectors meaning averaged color values of the left and right regions of the each line are computed by using the properties of the line and a region growing method. The pattern vectors are matched with the feature points of the map by comparing the color information and the geometrical relationship. From the perspective transformation and rigid transformation of the corresponded points, nonlinear equations are derived. Localization is carried out from solving the equations by using Newton's method. Experimental results show that the proposed method using mono view is simple and applicable to indoor environment.
Recently, the vision system has the wide and growing' application field on account of the vast information from that visual mechanism. Especially, in the control field, the vision system has been applied to the industrial robot. In this paper, the object tracking and grasping task is accomplished by the robot vision system with a camera in the robot hand. The camera setting method is proposed to implement that task in a simple way. In spite of the calibration error, the stable grasping task is achieved using the tracking control algorithm based on the vision feature.
