This study was intended to investigate the effects of regular swimming exercise and vitamin C supplementation on the antioxidant system following exercise stress. For the swimming exercise experiment, a swimming adaptation exercise of 1 week was given to a group of 6-week-old mice. Following this, a swimming exercise for 8 weeks was conducted. The experimental group was divided into 3: a control group (C), a swimming exercise trained group (T), and a group of swimming + vitamin C supplementation (TC: vitamin supplementation: 1.3 mg/l00 g diet). After the swimming exercise, these group were further divided into those that had received the exercise stress for 2 hours and those that had not experienced exercise stress group. Then, the activities of the superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations were measured. There was a lower weight increase in the T and TC groups than in the C group, and there was no significant difference between T and TC group. When exercise stress was not experienced, the activity of SOD was significantly increased in the TC group than in the T group, but there was no significant difference between C and T groups. The groups that had experienced a 2-hour exercise stress showed the SOD activity levels according to the following order, C < T < TC, with a significant difference between the three groups (p<0.05). There was no difference in MDA concentration amongst the experimental groups in non-exercise stress group. As well, there was no differences in MDA concentration between the C group and T group in the 2 hour exercise stress group. However, the TC group showed a MDA concentration level significantly lower than that of the T group. A significant increase in MDA concentration was observed in C group, when exercise stress was provided with no significant difference in the T and TC groups. As a result, regular exercise and vitamin C supplementation can be considered important in controlling the formation of lipid peroxides in exercise stress.
Effectiveness of the video-record learning method in teaching bowel elimination nursing skill was investigated using an experimental research methodology. Data was collected from 63 female students attending Fundamental Nursing class from a nursing college in Seoul. The subjects were randomly assigned to two groups, one is the experimental group of 29 and the other the control group of 34. The independent variable was video-record learning method and the dependent variable were the degree of knowledge achivement, nursing skill achivement, competence on practicing elimination skill, and satisfaction about the learning method. The hypotheses of the study were as following. 1) There will be significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in dependent variables. 2) There will be significant positive correlations between nursing skill achievement and other three dependent variables-interest in nursing, adaptation in nursing, and preference of nursing job. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square test, t-test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient with SPSS $PC^+$ program. Findings of the study are : 1) There was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in knowledge achievement using P<.05. 2) There was significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in nursing skill achievement using P<.05. 3) There was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in competence on practicing elimination skill using P<.05. 4) There was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in satisfaction about learning method using P<.05. 5) There was positive correlation between nursing skill achievement and the other variables but no significant difference was shown. 6) This study suggests that video-record learning method is an effective learning method for achiving basic nursing skills but is not effective in other areas such as knowledge achivement, competence in performing nursing practice, and satis-faction about the learning method. Further study with more developed research design and statistical analysis should be done to investigate the effectivenes of video-record learning method in learning basic nursing skill more accurately.
This study was designed to investigate the effect of vibratory stimulation on recovery of muscle function from delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). Volunteers performed 3 set of 70 % maximal voluntary eccentric muscle contraction and induced DOMS. volunteers were allocated to one of three treatment group after DOMS : group I (control), group II (ultrasound), group III (vibration). Maximal Voluntary Isometric Contraction (MVIC), Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Range Of Motion (ROM), Root Mean Square (RMS), Median frequency (MDF), Blood Serum Creatine Kinase (CK), Lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) were recorded at baseline, and 24, 48, 72 hours post-exercise. In MVIC measurement, there was a statistically significant difference in group III compared to group I (p < .05). In VAS measurements, there were a statistically significant difference in group II and III compared to group I (p < .05). In ROM measurement, there was a statistically difference in group II and III compared to group I (p < .05). In Muscle Volume with Ultrasonography measurement, there was no statistically significant difference in any groups (p > .05). In RMS and MDF measurement, there were a statistically significant difference in group II and III compared to group I (p < .05). In Blood samples of CK and LDH measurements, There were no statistically significant difference in any groups (p > .05). From the above result, Vibratory stimulation had a positive effect on recovery of muscle function from delayed onset muscle soreness. Further studies should be undertaken to ascertain the more effectiveness of vibratory stimulation and may be a promising treatment modality.
66 patients with low back pain were evaluated to determine if any differences of weight bearing were existed between the same side leg that feel pain(pain side leg) and that without pain (non-pain side leg) of lower extremities while weight bearing. 66 patients were divided into 3 groups according to pain pattern such as low back pain only(26), radiating pain only(21) and low back pain with radiating pain (19). Control group were 28 normal persons. The weight bearing was rated by Limloader(Model LLD-2000, Ver 1.2) and analyzed by paired and independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Dunan's analaysis and Pearson's correlation analysis. The results of this study were as follows : 1. In patient group, significant difference of weight bearing rating between pain side leg and non-pain side leg was found. There was borne significantly less weight bearing rating(14.68%) on the pain side leg(P<.001). 2. In normal group, there was no significant difference between left and right leg(P>.05). But there was significant difference(3.21%) in absolute difference of both leg(p<.001). 3. The difference of 1 and 2 was 11.47% : more difference of weight bearing rating between both legs in patient group than that of the control group(p<.001). 4. There were significant differences of weight bearing rating in those 3 groups : low back pain group(10.30%), radiating pain group (17.90%) and low back pain with radiating pain group (17.10%) (p<.001). 5. There was significant correlation between pain intensity and difference of weight bearing rating(p<.05). The severer pain intensity. the more difference of weight bearing rating was found. 6. There was no significant correlation between the age, height and duration of symptom, etc(p>.05).
This study was conducted to investigate changes of knowledge and attitude toward AIDS of soldier through health education. The sample was selected with and experimental group(160 persons who were received health education group) and control group(160 persons who were not received), 20-21 years of age from 320 persons(soldier) who were between in a certain base located in Kyung Gi province. The data was collected from 24th Feb. to 21st April 1993. By questionnaires before and post test for education process about 4 weeks(pre and post test). The results of this study were as follows ; Of 320 soldiers 66.6% had received health education on sex before attending in base, 58.8%(94 persons) of experimental group and 58.1%(93 persons) had experience with sexual intercourse. In characteristics related to sexual intercourse experience, age of first sexual intercourse for experimental group was 19 in highest percentage as 30.0%, 18 in control group, 64.9% of experimental group and 61.4% of control group answered no use condom during sexual intercourse. About the reasons why use condom 51.5% of experimental group answered to prevention of VD and 44.4% of control group answered to prevention of partner's pregnancy in the highest percentage. There was no significant difference between mean score of knowledge level of experimental group and mean score of control group in pre-test. There was significant difference between mean score(15.23) of experimental group and mean score(12.98) of control group(p<0.01) in post-test. The attitude level in pre, post education was mean score 11. The author surveyed the tooth development of 50 cleft affected children(M: 34, F:16). The following results were obtained. 1. The difference between the chronologic age and dental age was 0.61 years in the cleft group and 0.15 years in the control group. The delay in tooth development was observed in the cleft group. 2, In the cleft group, there was no difference in the delay of tooth development between the boys and the girls. 3. In the cleft group, there was no difference in the delay of tooth development between the maxilla and the mandible. 4. The delay of tooth development was more severe in the bilateral cleft group than in the unilateral cleft group. 5. In the unilateral cleft, there was no difference in tooth formation between the cleft side and corresponding side.
야구 경기에서 투수의 투구 동작은 5단계로 구분되어 정의되지만 투구 속도는 어느 부위의 근력에 의해서 좌우되는지 단언할 수 없다. 그러나 최근에 견관절의 회전력 중요성이 강조되고 있으며 몇몇 선행 연구를 찾아 볼 수 있었다. 그래서 빠른 투구 능력과 견관절 회전력에 대한 상관성 분석의 필요성을 갖게 되었다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 오버 드로우 투수들의 견관절 내 외측 토크를 3가지 자세에서 측정하여 볼 속도와 관계를 규명하고 기준을 제시할 기초 자료 제공에 있다. 연구 결과 앉은 자세에서 내 외전 최대 토크는 집단 (볼 속도 차이) 간 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았으며, 누운 자세의 내 외전 최대 토크는 집단간 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았으며, 선 자세에서도 동일한 결과가 나타났다. 결론적으로 투구 속도와 자세별 내 외전 최대 토크 근력과는 정량적인 차이는 있었지만 상관성은 나타나지 않았다. 그래서 투구 속도에 영향을 미치는 역학적 에너지 동원 체계에 대한 기전 규명의 추후 연구가 기대된다.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the change of functional ambulation profile(FAP) and temporal-spatial gait parameters in hemiplegic patient by forceful respiratory exercise. 28 Hemiplegic patients due to stroke was randomized in 3 groups, forceful expiratory training(FET), forceful inspiratory training(FIT) and control group. In the experimental groups, ordinary physical therapy with forceful expiratory training and forceful inspiratory training for 20 minutes duration 3 times per week for 6 weeks were respectively performed. In the control group, only ordinary physical therapy was done. FAP and temporal-spatial gait parameters was measured at before and after experiments. The results of this experimental study were as follows : 1. In comparison of FAP before and after experiment, the FAP was significantly increased in the FET and FIT group (p<.01). In comparison of difference of FAP among 3 groups, there was the significant difference between the FIT group and the control group (p<.05). 2. The results of temporal-spatial gait parameters are as follows : 1) In comparison of gait velocity before and after experiment, the gait velocity was significantly increased in the FET and FIT group (p<.05). In comparison of difference of the gait velocity among 3 groups, there was the significantly difference between the FIT group and the control group (p<.05). 2) In comparison of gait cadence before and after experiment, the gait cadence was significantly increased in FIT group (p<.05). In comparison of the difference of the gait cadence among 3 groups, there was no significant difference between the FIT group and the control group (p>.05). Based on these results, it is concluded that the forced respiratory exercise program for 6 weeks can be improve the FAP and temporal-spatial gait parameters in hemiplegic patients. Therefore, the forced respiratory exercise is useful to improve the walking ability in hemiplegic patients.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of neuromuscular re-eduction program and traditional intervention program. Methods: It is focused on difference between changes of experimental before and after on 30 stroke patient's physical composition, body water and functional independence. Results: The obtained results are as follows ; 1. In the comparison of change in physical composition between the experimental group and control group, the between-subjects factors were not a significant difference. 2. In the comparison of change in body water between the experimental group and control group, the between-subjects factors were not a significant difference. 3. In the comparison of change in functional independence between the experimental group and control group, the between-subjects factors were a significant difference in 8 items and total FIM (p<0.01; p<0.05) but, were not a significant difference in 11 items. Conclusion: the neuromuscular re-eduction program was more effect then traditional intervention program in functional independence but, was not a significant difference in body composition and body water.
Human body balances right and left leg centering around pelvis and spine. Therefore, imbalance of lower extremity means disequilibrium of the body. The difference of lower extremity length can cause a number of clinic symptoms including scoliosis, low back pain, sacroiliac pain, and sports injury. In this study, we tried to analyze low back pain and joint stiffness resulting from the difference of lower extremity length. The subjects were 80 male students who are 20-25 years old. The results of this study were as following: 1. Low back pain depending on the difference of lower extremity length One group which the difference of lower extremity length is above 12mm showed average different length as 18.0mm, the other group which one is below 12mm showed as 6.3mm. A group of above 12mm had more severe low back pain than a group of below 12mm. 2. Joint stiffness depending on the difference of lower extremity length A group of above 12mm had more severe joint stiffness than a group of below 12mm.
