Purpose : The purposes of this study is twofold: (a) to investigate the effect of job stress and organizational climate on the organizational effectiveness of hospital nurses, and (2) to examine the moderating effect of organizational climate on job stress. Method : Three organizational effectiveness variables(e .g., job satisfaction, organizational committment and group productivity) as outcomes variables were examined. The sample consisted of 602 nurses from 5 general hospitals affiliated university. Data were collected with self-administrated questionnaires and analyzed using hierarchical regression. Results : It was found that: (a) seven job stress variables(e. g., workload, role conflict, schedule, lack of knowledge, conflict with superior, conflict with other personnel and conflict with patients) have negative effect on job satisfaction and organizational committment; (b) organizational climate have positive main effects on job satisfaction and organizational committment; (c) the negative effects of job stress variables on job satisfaction and organizational committment are not moderated by organizational climate. Conclusion : Organizational climate mediates the effects of job stress on group productivity, but the size of the mediating effects was small. Various outcome variables need to be discussed further research.
This study analyzes messages from Korean TV debates on the conflict over U.S. beef imports and the process of negotiations over the imports in 2008. The authors have conducted a content analysis and a semantic network analysis by using KrKwic and CONCOR. The data was drawn from nine TV debates aired by three major TV networks in Korea (MBC, KBS, and SBS) from 27 April 27 2008 to 6 July 2008. The results indicate substantial differences in the semantic structure between arguments by the government and those by civic groups. We also investigated the relationship between the terms frequently used by both sides (i.e., the government and civic groups), and the terms used exclusively by one side. There was a gradual increase in the number of terms frequently used by both sides over time, from the formation of the conflict to its escalation to its resolution. The results indicate the possibility of general agreement in conflict situations.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the father's experiences from his family-of-origin, marital conflict, and childrearing behaviors on his child's behavioral problems, as well as any differences due to the child's sex. The subjects were 837 days of 4th and 5th graders in six elementary schools and their fathers in Seoul and Pusan. The data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) to verify the theoretical models among the variables. The results showed that the pathways of the impact of the father's experiences from his family-of-origin differed, depending on the father-son group and the father-daughter group, upon the child's intermailizing and extenalizing behavioral problems through marital conflict and the father's childrearing behaviors. Firstly, in the father-son model, the father's experiences from his family-of-origin had an impact on the son's internalizing and extenalizing behavioral problems through marital conflict and the his negative childrearing behaviors. Secondly, the father-daughter model exhibited two pathways; the father's experiences from his family-of-origin had an impact on the child's internalizing and externalizing behavioral problems through his negative chilrearing behaviors, and the father's experiences from family-of-origin had an impact on the child's internalizing behavioral problems through marital conflict and his positive childrearing.

This study examined the effect of middle school students' perceived marital conflict on the middle school students' aggression. Also it examined the differences of male and female middle school students. The researcher surveyed 500 questionnaires for middle school students and was using 444 questionnaires in the final analysis. To analysis the data, t-test, Pearson correlation and the multiple group Structural Equation Modeling approach was used. It was sown that in the middle school students who highly perceived their interparental conflict, the higher the aggression. Interpartental conflicts significantly affected on middle school students' aggression in male and female students. It was sown, also that in the male middle school students who highly perceived their interparental conflict than girl students who highly perceived, the higher the aggression. In conclusion, this study demonstrates the importance of parental roles have effects on middle school students' problem behavior. Especially it was found that male middle school students aggression are influences by interparental conflict. Accordingly, this study has significances by proposing methods of efficient parental consultation and education to resolve parental conflicts.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of an integrative art therapy program for marriage migrant women to improve self-efficacy, learn conflict resolution strategies, and establish close family relationship. The participants of the program were limited to marriage migrant women residing in A City who lived in Korea for more than two years. 30 women for the experimental group and 31 women for the control group were randomly sampled. Eight sessions were offered. A pre-test was conducted in the first session and a post-test was done one month after the program was finished. The results of the program suggested that the experimental group had a higher effect on self-efficacy and conflict resolution strategies than the control group. The integrative art therapy program for marriage migrant women conducted in this study aims for marriage migrant women to recover confidence and actively establish happy marital and family relationship by providing an opportunity to make success experience. Moreover, the program is intended to be applied to the field to build up the foundation of family and social adjustment in marriage migrant women.
The purposes of this study were to investigate how ageism and age integration influence the perception of intergenerational conflict for each age group, and to seek alternatives to decrease intergenerational conflict. Study participants were divided into three groups based on their age: adolescence, middle age, and old age groups. For each group, the effects of ageism and age integration related variables on intergenerational conflict were examined using regression analysis. The results showed that there was no specific difference on the perception of intergenerational conflict by three different age groups; however, there were differences on influencing factors to explain the perception of intergenerational conflict. Among those factors, especially, the severity of the perception of age discrimination, which is one of ageism related variables, influenced the perception of intergenerational conflict for all age groups. That is, the more people perceived the severity of age discrimination, the more people perceived intergenerational conflict. The findings of this study are meaningful because this study revealed ageism and age integration could be causes to trigger intergenerational conflict.

The purpose of this study was to understand the undergraduate students' response characteristics by their cognitive conflict levels and result predictions when they were confronted with the learning tasks of action & reaction and electric circuits. The 147 engineering college students who were enrolled at the introductory physics classes were selected as the subjects for this study. The students were grouped by cognitive levels and result predictions. First, in action and reaction task, the trend of suspecting experimental results and finding the reasons was dominant; however, in electric circuits, the trend of accepting the results was dominant. Second, the reasons for the responses on the subcategories of cognitive conflict were different by the level of cognitive conflict. The responses were influenced by students' preexisting knowledge, former experiences, learning habits, learning motivation, and epistemological beliefs, etc. The high conflict group recognized what they do not consider and was positive to reappraise their preconceptions, while the low conflict group showed the tendency of accepting the situation without doubt and low interest on learning physics. In conclusion, students responses showed differences in cognitive conflict levels, result predictions and presented conflict tasks. The research results, especially the response characteristics, suggest that more research on effective cognitive conflict strategies appropriate for different tasks and students' conflicts are necessary for effective physics teaching.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the frequency and severity of role conflict experienced by nurses in the hospital. Methods: For this survey a self-report questionnaire on nurses' role conflict was used for data collection. Participants were 472 nurses in hospitals with over 500 beds. The questionnaire had 82 items classified into five categories (role activity, relationships between: nurse-nurse, nurse-patient/caregiver, nurse-doctor, and nurse-other department staff). The questionnaire was developed through focus group interviews with nurses according on their work experiences and literature reviews that were validated by the researchers. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics for frequency and severity of nurses' role conflict. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for the questionnaire was .95 (frequency), .97 (severity). Results: Mean score for nurses' role conflict was 1.64. The highest frequency for nurses' role conflict was in the category, relationship between nurse and patients or their families ($2.00{\pm}0.46$). The highest severity for nurses' role conflict was in the category; relationship between nurses and doctors ($1.96{\pm}0.56$). Conflict about nurses' role activity showed both high frequency ($1.99{\pm}0.39$) and severity ($1.95{\pm}0.43$). Conclusion: Results indicate a need to develop programs to improve interpersonal relationship so as to reduce role conflict and encourage nurses' professional satisfaction and achievement.
This study is to compare the effects of personality characteristics on marital quality of the husband and the wife. Marital quality was measured in two aspects: marital satisfaction and marital conflict. At the first step of the regression analysis, socio-demographic variables were entered, at the second step, variables of personality characteristics, and at the third step, variables of personality characteristics of the spouse were added. Age group of 35 and under is higher in marital satisfaction or lower in marital conflict than that of 36 to 40. People who grew up in Chungchung area are lower in marital satisfaction compared to those who grew up in Seoul and adjacent area, and those who grew up in Chunla area are higher in marital satisfaction. Marital conflict increases when people are less educated. Marital conflict decreases when the husband has high income. Religion is related to marital satisfaction and marital conflict of the husband. Stability is related to both marital satisfaction and marital conflict. Sociability of the wife is related to marital satisfaction and marital conflict of the husband, and responsibility of the wife is related to her own marital conflict. Responsibility of the husband is related to marital conflict of the wife. This result shows that the husband is expected to perform the instrumental role and the wife the expressive role. In, conclusion, these results should be considered when family life education programs for couples are constructed. First, family life cycle needs to be considered when family life education programs are offered. Second, regional differences in family culture should be put into consideration. Third, the idea that conjugal role relationships can be flexible needs to be included in family life education programs. Fourth, programs to improve stability, responsibility and sociability are needed for wives. Fifth, programs to improve stability and responsibility should be offered in work settings for husbands.
The purpose of this study is to assess the cause and level of conflict arising within and between departments among administration office workers who work in a recently established tertiary hospitals of a major cooperation or related non-profit cooperation: The study also aimed to find methods for resolution of such conflicts by comparing with other existing university hospitals. The subject population included 299 business administration office workers randomly selected from two cooperate related tertiary hospitals of less than 3 years in its existence and two university hospitals over 700 beds in Seoul and Kyong In area. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire. To define related factors for the level of conflict among departments in each hospitals multivariate regression analysis was conducted. Independent factors were characteristics of subjects, conflicting factors within and between the departments. The results are as follows: 1. Those in the 30-39 rears of age group demonstrated significantly higher level of conflict between departments. Those working in the new hospitals, who were older and had long-term tenure, and those with short-term job experience at current working hospital had higher level of conflict between the departments with statistical significance. 2. Concerning the involvement of conflicting factors and the level of conflict in the administration there was statistically significant positive correlation between reliability and job-related intra- and interdepartmental level of conflict in existing hospitals. There was a significant positive correlation between intradepartmental conflicting factors of mutual dependence, difference in goal/orientation and intra- and interdepartmental level of conflict. 3. In multivariate regression analysis, women more than men, and those who had worked for many years in hospitals had statistically significant influence on factors involved in interdepartmental level of conflict, explaining 51.0% of the model. 4. In existing hospitals, gender was a significant factor with women showing a higher level of interdepartmental conflict compared to men. Among the interdepartmental factors, mutual dependence had statistically significant influence and showed a positive relationship with interdepartmental level of conflict. In the new hospitals, job position was a significant factor which showed that those in high position such as section chief or above, compared to those in managerial or general position had higher level of conflict. Among the interdepartmental characteristics, factors of mutual dependence and goal/orientation had statistically significant influence and showed a positive relationship with interdepartmental level of conflict. In the new hospital setting efforts to reduce conflict in areas among workers with high position, old age, and long tenure and those in Purchasing, Material and Computer Department should be made and prudent management and planning for improved manpower and increased budget or efficient allocation and clear definition of job description are necessary to adequately assess and make improved efforts for rapid stabilization of the premature hospital system from its inception, In the existing hospitals a lack of conflict within and between departments may give rise to stagnation or inefficiency of the organization. Future study are needed with respect to the relationship between interdepartmental level of conflict and the effectiveness of the hospital organization for improved resolution of conflict in the organization and hospital management.
