A theoretical analysis is carried out to predict the characteristics of transient ignition phenomena for the spherical fuel droplets cloud with non-uniform droplet size and number density distribution. Numerical calculations are performed for various cases depending on the combinations of the major parameters such as ambient temperature and initial distributions of droplet size and number density. The results of present study show that the ignition delay decreases for higher ambient temperature and smaller droplet size. Droplets cloud of hollow type with outer concentrated distribution ignites most rapidly.

Recently, the demand of environmentally friendly transportation has increased due to the environmental issues. Electric two-wheeled vehicles do not have the noise pollution nor exhaust gases of vehicles with internal combustion engines. Performance evaluation of an electric two-wheeled vehicle was carried out. A driving test on outdoor roads was performed and a chassis dynamometer was used. The chassis dynamometer simulates the road load of the vehicle. The road load influences the tests using the chassis dynamometer. The differences between the table method and the coasting test for setting the road load was compared and analyzed.

The aim of this study was to find out the effect of instruction with storytelling on the achievement, attitude and interest in science. For this study, two classes were divided into experimental class and comparative class. All the results were analyzed quantitatively. Results of this study can be described as follows. First, the experimental class didn't have a significant difference in scholastic achievement compared with the comparative class. However, the results of the t-test for the academic achievement due to achievement level showed a positive effect in the average level of students. And experimental group was statistically significantly higher in the section of 'Combustion and Extinguishment' than that of the other group. Second, There was a significant difference in the aspect of the effect of instruction with storytelling on the student's science-related attitudes. As a result of analysis by sub categories of science-related attitudes, storytelling was effective in attitude toward science, but no significant differences were found in scientific attitude. Third, instruction with storytelling didn't show a meaningful difference in scientific interest. However, in the sub-part, they showed a meaningful improvement in attention and satisfaction.
The organ distribution of mercury was examined in the rat after oral administration of a single dose of red mercuric sulfide (15mg Hg/kg). The concentration of total mercury in the organs and blood after 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24 and 72 hours of administration was determined by Quartz Tube Combustion-Gold Amalgamation Method. It was found that the maximal concentration of total mercury was in the kidneys and muscle within 24 hours and in the brain, heart, liver and blood within 48 hours. The descending order of the maximal organ and blood concentration was: kidneys(1.08ppm)>blood> muscle>heart>liver>brain. The accumulation states of total mercury in the rat organs were investigated by continuous administration of red mercuric sulfide (5mg Hg/kg/day) for 15 days. The mercury concentration increased progressively throughout the experimental period and the descending order of the highest level of mercury after 15 days was: kidneys (1.55ppm)>blood>liver. The concentration of alkyl mercury in brain, liver and kidneys also was measured after 7 and 15 days of consecutive administration of red mercuric sulfide (5mg Hg/kg/day). The concentration in the Kidneys and the liver was very low, but was significantly different from control group. The concentration in the brain was extremely low and was not significantly different from control group.
The fire hazards and combustion heat of puzzle mats in group day care home were analysed using variable external irradiation level. The fire hazards such as ignition time, ignition temperature, mass loss rate, and flame temperature profile were measured. Incident heat fluxes of $15kW/m^2$, $20kW/m^2$, $25kW/m^2$, $35kW/m^2$, $50kW/m^2$ and $75kW/m^2$ were selected for these experiments. All samples were tested in the horizontal orientation and were wrapped in a single layer of aluminium foil. Each sample was nominally 20mm thick and 100mm square. Five samples of puzzle mat were tested in the study : Type A, B, C, D and E. Type A, B and C are all general grades whereas Type D and E are both Flame retardant grades. As results, Type E of FR-grade showed the best characteristics in safety of the early fire from ignition time, critical heat flux, and ignition and flame temperature data of this study. All specimen of G-grade(Type A, B and C), however, showed the weak in safety of fire.
The hydrogen behavior in a nuclear containment vessel is a significant issue when discussing the potential of hydrogen combustion during a severe accident. After the Fukushima-Daiichi accident in Japan, we have investigated in-depth the hydrogen transport mechanisms by utilizing experimental and numerical approaches. Computational fluid dynamics is a powerful tool for better understanding the transport behavior of gas mixtures, including hydrogen. This paper describes a Large-eddy simulation of gas mixing driven by a high-buoyancy flow. We focused on the interaction behavior of heat and mass transfers driven by the horizontal high-buoyant flow during density stratification. For validation, the experimental data of the Containment InteGral effects Measurement Apparatus (CIGMA) facility were used. With a high-power heater for the gas-injection line in the CIGMA facility, a high-temperature flow of approximately 390 ℃ was injected into the test vessel. By using the CIGMA facility, we can extend the experimental data to the high-temperature region. The phenomenological discussion in this paper helps understand the heat and mass transfer induced by the high-buoyancy flow in the containment vessel during a severe accident.

This study was performed to understand the behavior and source characteristics of particulate trace metals in Daegu area. To do this, total of 84 samples had been collected from January to December 1999. TSP (total suspended particulate matter) and PM-10(particulate matter with aerodynamic diameters less 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) were collected by filters on portable air sampler, and in TSP and PM-10 were analyzed by ICP(Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometer) after preliminary treatment. The results were follow as: first, annul means of TSP and PM-10 concentration were 123 and 69$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎤ respectively. The concentration of TSP adn PM-10 were highest in winter season compared to other seasons. Second, the concentration of Al, Fe, Mn were higher in TSP than in PM-10, indicating that these metals are generally associate with natural contributions. Third, a hierarchical clustering technique was used to group 9 metals. The results from the cluster analysis of TSP and PM-10 shows a similar clustering pattern : Fe, Al in a group and the rest of the metals such as Ni, Cr, As, Mn, Cd, Pb, Zn in the other group. One group of metal such as Fe, Al is associated with natural sources such as soil and dust. The other is closely related to urban anthropogenic sources such as fuel combustion, incineration, and refuse burning, Finally, using Al as a reference element, enrichment factors were used for identifying the major particulate contributors. The enrichment factors of Al. Fe<10 (standard value of enrichment factor) were considered to have a significant dust and soil source and termed nonenriched. Ni, Cr, As, Mn, Cd, Pb, Zn》10 is enriched and has a significant which is contributed by athropogenic sources.
Characterization of microstructures and cryogenic mechanical properties of electro beam (EB) welds between cast and forged Inconel 718 superalloys has been investigated. Optimal EBW condition was found in the beam current range of 36~39 mA with the constant travel speed of 12 mm/s and arc voltage of 120 kV for 10 mm-thick specimens. Electron beam current lower than 25 mA caused to occur the liquation microfissuring in cast-side heat affected zone (HAZ) of EB welds. The HAZ liquation microfissure was found on the liquated grain boundaries with resolidified ${\gamma}/Laves$ and ${\gamma}/NbC$ eutectic constituents. EBW produced welds showing a fine dendritic structure with relatively discrete Laves phase due to fast cooling rate. After post weld aging treatment, blocky Laves phase and formation of ${\gamma}^{\prime}+{\gamma}^{{\prime}{\prime}}$ strengtheners were observed. Presence of primary strengthener and coarse Laves particles in PWHT weld may cause to reduce micro-plastic zone ahead of a crack, leading to a significant decrease in Charpy impact toughness at $-196^{\circ}C$. Fracture initiation and propagation induced by Charpy impact testing were discussed in terms of the dislocation structures ahead of crack arisen from the fractured Laves phase.

In the unlikely event of core disruptive accident in sodium cooled fast reactors, the reactor containment building would be bottled up with sodium and fission product aerosols. The behavior of these aerosols is crucial to estimate the in-containment source term as a part of nuclear reactor safety analysis. In this work, the evolution of sodium aerosol characteristics (mass concentration and size) is simulated using HAARM-S code. The code is based on the method of moments to solve the integro-differential equation. The code is updated to FORTRAN-77 and run in Microsoft FORTRAN PowerStation 4.0 (on Desktop). The sodium aerosol characteristics simulated by HAARM-S code are compared with the measured values at Aerosol Test Facility. The maximum deviation between measured and simulated mass concentrations is 30% at initial period (up to 60 min) and around 50% in the later period. In addition, the influence of humidity on aerosol size growth for two different aerosol mass concentrations is studied. The measured and simulated growth factors of aerosol size (ratio of saturated size to initial size) are found to be matched at reasonable extent. Since sodium is highly reactive with atmospheric constituents, the aerosol growth factor depends on the hygroscopic growth, chemical transformation and density variations besides coagulation. Further, there is a scope for the improvement of the code to estimate the aerosol dynamics in confined environment.

In this study, various cycles of liquid rocket engines were surveyed and specifically gas generator after burning cycle was investigated for upper stage motors. The engines for the upper stage can be categorized into three group based on the cycles and propellants at the diagram. Kerosene engines which adapt the gas generator after burning cycle and are located in the region II, are characterized for high combustion pressure and complexity. This cycle usually needs more than two pumps to use the turbine power efficiently. The fuel line can be divided into the gas generator line and the combustor line, and only the gas generator line is need to be pressured more because the combustion pressure in the gas generator is much higher than that of the combustor. Basically, all the oxidizer goes into the gas generator and than to the combustor, thus the auxiliary LOx pump is not critically necessary. However, for the various reasons, the LOx line requires a booster pump. A gas generator after burning cycle engines produces relatively high specific impuls than that of the open cycle engines. Thus it is suitable for upper stages of launch vehicles.
