Changwon City first constructed riverbank filtration plants in Book-Myeon and Daesan-Myeon in Korea in the year 2001. This study evaluated hydrogeological characteristics and groundwater flow simulation between the Nakdong River and the fluvial aquifers adjacent to the river in Book-Myeon, Changwon City. The groundwater simulation calculated the influx rate from the Nakdong River and the fluvial aquifers to pumping wells through the riverbank filtration system. The groundwater flow model utilized drilling, grain size analysis, pumping test, groundwater level measurements, river water discharge and rainfall data. Hydraulic heads calculated by the steady-state model closely matched measured heads in pumping and observation wells. According to the transient flow model, using a total pumping amount of 14,000 $m^3$/day, the flux into the pumping wells from the Nakdong River accounts for 8,390 $m^3$/day (60%), 590 $m^3$/day (4%) is from the aquifer in the rectilinea. direction to the Nakdong River, and 5,020 $m^3$/day (36%) is from the aquifer in the parallel direction to the Nakdong River. The particle tracking analysis shows that a particle from the Nakdong River moves toward the pumping wells at a rate of about 1.85 m/day and a particle from the aquifer moves toward the pumping wells at a rate of about 0.75 m/day. This study contributes to surface water/groundwater management modeling, and helps in understanding, how seasonal change affects pumping rates, water quality, and natural recharge.
To verify the characteristics of groundwater inflow accompanied by the tunnel excavation, the flow rate was measured before and after primary grouting. The relationship between the flow rate and fracture system was also analyzed. The initial flow rate was estimated as 120,990 m$^3$/day through six zones, which were characterized by a large amount of inflow before the primary grouting. After the primary grouting, although considerable amount of inflow was still recognized at the six zones, the flow rate was greatly reduced as 42,844 m$^3$/day. However, great recovery of water levels was not observed. Groundwater flow into the tunnel by excavation of the tunnel is mainly controlled by the fracture system that include faults and joints developed in the host rocks. Four sets of discontinuities affecting on the network of grondwater inflow in the study area were identified as follows: N60-85$^{\circ}C$ W.25$^{\circ}$SW/80$^{\circ}$SW(TSet 1), N40-50$^{\circ}$E.85$^{\circ}$SE/85$^{\circ}$NE(TSet 2), N10-20$^{\circ}$E.85$^{\circ}$SE(TSet 3), and N70-80$^{\circ}$E.80SE(TSet 4).
A modeling was performed to predict the groundwater recovery in the vicinity of the waterway tunnel area using a groundwater flow model MODFLOW. The model was calibrated to reproduce measured groundwater levels and observed flow rates into the tunnel prior to lining, and then used for flow simulation under transient condition. Model predictions under steady-state condition revealed that if tunnel conductance had been reduced by 25% to 90%, groundwater levels would recover between 8% and 72.4% of their initial levels and flow into the tunnel will decrease between 5.5% and 82.7%. In case of 75% tunnel condutance ruduction in transient simulation. most of wells were predicted to recover within 20 years or so. The complete recovery for the wells with the groundwater level over 70 m was found to be impossible. For the 90% tunnel conductance reduction, all wells were found to be recovered within 15 years.
In this study, MODFLOW model is used to analyze the groundwater flow system of Seoguipo area in Cheju island, The final parameters of permeability coefficient and storage coefficient of target area can be obtained by trial and error method using the measured data of pumping rate as initial values. And it is found that the applicability for groundwater flow system is reflected well from the simulation result of the model. Seoguipo area spring water is thought to appear by relatively stable groundwater recharge below EL. 400m according to head distribution through the analysis of observed data considering topographic and geological characteristics, Lee's study(996), and the simulation result. Also it is known that point II, III, and VI show relatively large velocity vectors, and groundwater flows through the movement path which is distributed in various directions of I, II, III, IV, V, VI, and VIl form the result of velocity vector analysis using head distribution result values to analyze the groundwater flow path under unsteady flow condition.dition.
The groundwater flow and grout flow in individual rock joint and jointed rock mass are studied using various methods of analysis such as (i) the finite difference method, (ii) channel network analysis and (iii) joint network analysis. The flow behaviour is investigated in two distinguishable scales of observation: one for a rough joint of a laboratory scale having variable aperture, and the other for field- scale rock masses having three sets of intermittent joints. In the former case, the aperture-dependent channel flow is identified for both water and grout flows. The comparison of the flow rate in a rough joint is made between the finite difference analysis and existing analytical solution. In the latter case, the effects of increasing number of joints on the groundwater inflow into a circular opening of various diameters are analyzed using both the joint network method and Goodman's analytic solution. Comparisons are made between the two methods. The boundary effects in the joint network method are discussed. The inhomogeneity of joint network and its impacts on the groundwater inflow are also discussed.

The purpose of this study is to estimate the surface and subsurface flows through the modelling of the model area and facility agricultural complex, and to calculate the groundwater recharge rate through water budget analysis. From results of surface flow modeling, the surface water is flowed to a depth of about 1 to 5 meters from the upper region (northeast) to the lower region (southeast) of the Miryang River. At the M01 point (upper), the observed surface water flux and the model surface water flux are consistent. At the M02 points (lower), the observed surface water flux and the model surface water flux are a difference of 1%. From results of subsurface flow modeling, the depth of groundwater is similar to elevation in the river and higher to the forest area. Ground water depth considering groundwater pumping is that the model values appears higher than the observed values to be within 1.5 m. From results of surface-subsurface integrated modeling, the groundwater recharge area is estimated about 90% of the model area, and the groundwater recharge rate is estimated $1.92{\times}10^5m^3/day$. From results of annual water budget analysis, the groundwater recharge rate per unit area is estimated to be 503.9 mm/year, and average annual rainfall is estimated at around 39%.
Pohang earthquake (Main shock magnitude = 5.4) occurred in Southeastern region of South Korea in November 15, 2017. Groundwater levels of 6 monitoring wells with 5 minutes interval measurements located in that region and stream water levels of 4 stations located along the Hyeongsan-gang stream are used for the analysis of earthquake induced effects. Four groundwater monitoring wells show a short-term decrease of groundwater level after a main shock and one well does an increase and the maximum change is about 42.0 cm. Especially, groundwater levels at two monitoring wells near the epicenter are consistently maintained after a decrease. There is little relationship between earthquake magnitude or a distance to epicenter and changing amount of groundwater level and it may be due to the inhomogeneity of geologic material and unconsolidated sediments distribution. The changes in permeability of fractured zone and groundwater levels occasionally cause changes in stream flow rate, and water level of the Hyeongsan-gang stream in the study area decreases just after the earthquake and increases again up to the normal level and next shows an more gentle decreasing slope. Total increasing flow rates at S1 (upstream site) and S4 (downstream site) stations are about $12,096m^3$ and $116,640m^3$, respectively, during the increasing period.

Nuclear power utilities should establish a site-specific groundwater monitoring program for early detection of unplanned radioactive material's releases which can occur due to degradation of systems, structures and components of the nuclear power plants in order to keep the impact of the unplanned releases on the environment and the residents as low as reasonably achievable. For this end, groundwater flow on site should be evaluated based on characterization of the hydrogeology of a site of concern. This paper aims to provide data necessary for establishing groundwater monitoring program which is currently considered at Kori nuclear power plant 1 by characterizing groundwater flow system on the site based on the existing hydrogeological studies and related documents, and by modeling tritium transport. The results showed that the major groundwater flow direction was south-west and that most of groundwater entered a southern and eastern seas. Although the tritium plume also released into the sea, its rate was delayed by dewatering sump.

A series of experiments using transparent micromodels with an artificial pore network etched on glass plates was performed to investigate the effects of flow rate on the migration and distribution of resident wetting porewater (deionized water) and injecting non-wetting fluid (n-hexane). Multicolored images transformed from real RGB images were used to distinguish n-hexane from porewater and pore structure. Hexane flooding followed by immiscible displacement with porewater, migration through capillary fingering, preferential flow and bypassing were observed during injection experiments. The areal displacement efficiency increases as the injection of n-hexane continues until the equilibrium reaches. Experimental results showed that the areal displacement efficiency at equilibrium increases as the flow rate increases. Close observation reveals that preferential flowpaths through larger pore bodies and throats and clusters of entrapped porewater were frequently created at lower flow rate. At higher flow rate, randomly oriented forward and lateral flowpaths of n-hexane displaces more porewater at an efficiency close to stable displacement. It may resulted from that the pore pressure of n-hexane, at higher flow rate, increases fast enough to overcome capillary pressure acting on smaller pore throats as well larger ones. Experimental results in this study may provide fundamental information on migration and distribution of immiscible fluids in subsurface porous media.
The geothermal heat pump system is designed for cooling and heating for three stories building (2,435 $m^2$) includes total 79 heat pumps. Therefore, the monitoring system is installed for each floor and the data is automatically transmitted to the monitoring system. Heat exchange rate and temperature of a geothermal heat pump system have been monitored for a long period. The seasonal operation of geothermal heat pump shows the different shape of heat exchange rate for cooling and heating. Ground water flow can influence on heat exchange rate and thermal storage of the system. In order to define the hydraulic characteristics and groundwater temperature variation, the relationships among air temperatures, groundwater temperatures, water table, and precipitation are analysed.
