Probabilistic Approach to Predicting Residual Longitudinal Strength of Damaged Double HullVLCC

  • This paper estimates the residual longitudinal strength of a damaged double hull VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) under combined vertical and horizontal bending moments using Smith's method. The damage estimated in this study occurred due to collision or grounding accidents. The effects of the randomness of the yield stress, plate thickness, extent of damage, and the combination of these three parameters on the ultimate hull girder strength were investigated. Random variables were generated by a Monte Carlo simulation and applied to the double hull VLCC described by the ISSC (International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress) 2000 report.

  • There are ground facility of maintenance in house electric facility of infra maintenance electric home appliances having used multifariousness in house, that use electric energy of common source for equipment. The body of building such as the reinforced concrete construction is structurally united, and the electric resistance is also small. It is possible that those foundations have contacted the ground at large surface area and that it substitutes the building construction body for the earth electrode. This is called "the structure earthing". This method has been defined at electrical facilities technical standards and KS in our country, and it has been used in various quarters practically. However, in our country, there is no example of using the foundation of the house as substitution earth electrode practically, and the means of the evaluation as electrode has not been established either. Then, in this paper, basic research for utilizing foundation of the house as substitution earth electrode is carried out.

  • Lightning currents are one of major influences on the dynamic performance of counterpoise. High lightning current causes the dynamic grounding performance of counterpoise due to very fast fronted pulses. The previous analysis has often been based on quasi-static approximation that can not be applicable to very fast fronted pulses. To extend the analysis for fast fronted pulses in this paper, the full-wave analysis method based on the rigorous electromagnetic-field theory approach is used and the effects of the ionization of the soil are disregarded. Based on the simulation results, the empirical formulas applicable for slow and fast fronted lightning current pulses are reviewed; therefore, the validity of the theoretical approach is verified through comparison between the calculated and measured results.

  • The press cutter is productive equipment that practically manufactures materials such as fabrics, papers, films, leathers, rubbers etc. into the desired shapes using cutting method. Plate cutting process is one of the primary energy absorbing mechanisms in a grounding or collision event. The cutting mechanism is complicated and involves plastic flow of plate in the vicinity of the tip, friction between wedge and plate, deformation of plate. In this paper, we studied the effect of friction between cutter and plastic sheet for producing precise and superior products. The press cutter is analyzed numerically using MARC finite element program according to the variation of friction coefficients. The FEM results showed that normal stress, equivalent cauchy stress, normal total strain, equivalent total strain are good when friction coefficient is 0.0 and shear stress, shear total strain are good when friction coefficient is 0.8.

  • This paper describes the design of SVC fuzzy logic controller (SVC-FLC) using adaptive evolutionary algorithm and we tuned the gain of input-output variables of SYC-FLC using it. We performed the nonlinear simulation on an single-machine infinite system to prove the efficiency of the proposed method. The proposed SYC-FLC showed the better performance than PD controller in terms of the settling time and damping effect, for system operation condition used in evaluating the robustness and three phase grounding default in cases of nominal loading used in tuning SVC-FLC for a single-machine infinite system.

옥외 전기시설물 침수시 누설전류에 의한 인체영향 (Human Hazard by Outdoor Electrical Facilities in Submerged Area)

  • We show three-dimensional distribution of voltages resulted from the leakage current originated from outdoor electrical facilities in a submerged area. In case these facilities are grounded by the neutral line multiple grounding method, the existence of ungrounded electrical facilities can cause a disastrous effect on near-by passengers. In order to investigate this situation, we installed a real-scale test field for the experiment type I (for the leakage current path between a enclosure grounded electrical facility and another enclosure grounded one), and that for the experiment type II (for the leakage current path between a enclosure grounded electrical facility and another ungrounded one). For both cases, we carried out three-dimensional monitoring of the voltage distribution while varying additional conditions such as the exposure of the underground cables and the finishing of cable connection part. The result shows that a disastrous effect on human safety can arise from the leakage current without a pertinent measure for the construction and maintenance of outdoor electrical facilities.

  • This paper describes the digital distance algorithm in case of combined transmission line connected with overhead line and underground cable. Actually as fault is occurred in cable, it results in the complicated phenomena due to the several kind of grounding method in the sheath of cable. Accordingly the impedance. Therefore the correct impedance calculation algorithm is requested in combined transmission line to avoid the wrong trip of relay. This paper presents the development result of impedance calculation algorithm In such transmission line.

  • This paper discribes the modeling and transient analysis of cable in combined transmission line under high impedance fault(HIF). And also, transient characterstic analyzed on cable covering protection unit(CCPU) is presented. Modeling of the combined transmission line is established in PSCAD/EMTDC V3. The required data to analyze the transient phenomena is given from the actual system. The results show the HIF modeling in cable, fault current according to the value of fault resistance. And also when the value and method of grounding resistance is changed in CCPU, simulation results are presented.

One-wire In-Vehicle Controller Design and Manufacturing by DC-PLC Scheme

  • In this paper, DC-PLC typed one-wire controller was designed and manufactured especially for In-vehicle safe devices. One-wire by DC-PLC scheme is to be used as a power supply and ground to process the sensor data and to operate the vehicle actuators. To avoid complicate wires, we use the conventional wires without installing extra communication lines. The data collected from the sensors are transmitted to the main controller, processed by programming, and run the actuators corresponding to the commands sending to vehicle control board. The proposed method shows that only One-wire without requiring several wires make In-vehicle control devices simple and reduce the damage due to the loss of the wiring.

IT접지방식의 보호를 위한 활선절연저항 감시기 (Protective Insulation Monitoring Device in IT Earth Systems)

  • With the increasing popularity of renewable generation systems and the advancement of power electronics, DC distribution systems have recently received considerable research attention. DC distribution has numerous advantages, including reliability, power quality, and efficiency. Owing to these advantages, DC distribution has been applied to data centers and power quality-sensitive electronic load conditions. Because grounding electrodes in DC are much more susceptible to corrosion than in AC, the IT system defined in IEC Standard 60364 may be a good candidate for an earthing method for DC distribution systems. In addition, IEC Standard 61557 specifies the requirements for insulation monitoring devices (IMD) for protection of the IT system, which continuously monitors the insulation resistances between the power lines and the earth. This paper discusses the development and evaluation of IMD to promote the reliability of distribution systems and increase safety of humans and facilities.
