The celestial navigation is one of alternatives to GPS system and can be used as a backup of GPS. In the celestial navigation system using more than two star trackers, the vehicle's ground position can be solved based on the star trackers' attitude information if the vehicle's local vertical or horizontal angle is given. In order to determine accurate ground position of flight vehicle, the high accurate local vertical angle measurement is one of the most important factors for navigation performance. In this paper, the Earth geophysical deflection was analyzed in the assumption of using the modern electrolyte tilt sensor as a local vertical sensor for celestial navigation system. According to the tilt sensor principle, the sensor measures the tilt angle from gravity direction which depends on the Earth geoid surface at a given position. In order to determine the local vertical angle from tilt sensor measurement, the relationship between the direction of gravity and the direction of the Earth center should be analyzed. Using a precision orbit determination software which includes the JGM-3 Earth geoid model, the direction of the Earth center and the direction of gravity are extracted and analyzed. Appling vector inner product and cross product to the both extracted vectors, the magnitude and phase of deflection angle between the direction of gravity and the direction of the Earth center are achieved successfully. And the result shows that the angle differences vary as a function of latitude and altitude. The maximum 0.094$^{circ}$angle difference occurs at 45$^{circ}$latitude in case of 1000 Km altitude condition.
Recently, it is a trend of the underground excavation to become larger and deeper for more effective use of available space and with the advent of new excavation technologies. The ground typically has a complex stratigraphy. The excavation can lead to large deformation in the nearby structures and large earth pressure on the wall. This can lead to serious problem in the stability of the wall. For the retaining wall to be safely constructed, it is important that the stratigraphy and engineering properties of the ground be accurately estimated, based on the excavation plan and appropriate excavation method. This study uses the measured field data and numerical results to characterize the characteristics of the lateral deformation of the retaining wall. A touredof six field data were analysed. SUNEX, a numerical program which uses the elasto-plastic model to represent the soil, was used. It was shown that the measured deformations exceeded the proposed values for shallow excavations. Overall, the maximum lateral deformation was within the proposed value and hence, the walls were analyzed as safe.
A three-dimensional analysis is required to interpret the drainage behavior of an improved ground with vertical drains, and the macroelement method enables efficient interpretation considering the three-dimensional drainage effect of vertical drains under two-dimensional plane strain condition. In this study, a novel finite element analysis program was developed by applying the macroelement method to the vacuum consolidation method used in ground improvement practice. The conventional macroelement method was used to calculate the amount of drainage from the vertical drain by setting the excess porewater pressure in the drainage material to zero; however, the program developed in this study was improved to consider negative excess porewater pressure as an actual vacuum consolidation condition. To verify the performance of the program, because of a comparison with the measurement values at the site where the vacuum consolidation method was applied, results predicted by the program and field measurement data showed similar settlement behavior.
This study aims at assessing the quality of the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2) soil moisture products onboard GCOM-W1 satellite based on Land Parameter Retrieval Model (LPRM) soil moisture retrieval algorithm with field measurements in South Korea from March to September, 2014. Results of mean bias and root mean square error between AMSR2 LPRM soil moisture products (X-band) and ground measurements showed reasonable value of 0.03 and 0.16. Also, the maximum of the Pearson correlation coefficients was 0.67, which showed good agreement in terms of temporal variability with ground measurements. By comparing AMSR2 soil moisture with in-situ measurement according to the overpass time and band frequency, X-band products on the ascending time outperformed than those of C1-band and C2-band. Furthermore, this study offers an insight into the applicability of the AMSR2 soil moisture products for monitoring various natural disasters at a large scale such as drought and flood.

In this paper, the physical properties, stress deformation and strength characteristics, density and permeability characteristics of silty sand (SM) by fines content were analyzed through indoor tests. also based on the results of the indoor tests, a compact analysis was performed according to the content of SM, and the applicability of SM ground to the compacted target layer was evaluated by comparing it with the measurement data of the actual problem site. As a result of indoor tests and compression analysis, SM changed its mechanical properties from sandy soil to viscous soil when the fine particle content was 35% or higher, and using field measurement data, SM was found to have a higher compression tendency than direct subsidence. Therefore, the mechanical characteristics of SM above Fc 35% are considered to be similar to that of viscous soil, which is different from the compression characteristics of the tendency of immediate subsidence to conventional sandy soil, so it is necessary to present the mechanical characteristics of SM through further research. The research findings highlight the importance of considering consolidation settlement in silty sand (SM) when evaluating soft soil conditions. These findings can aid in revising criteria for assessing weak ground conditions by providing essential engineering property data based on varying fines content in silty sand.

The prediction of the susceptibility of soil to liquefaction using a limited set of parameters, particularly when dealing with highly unbalanced databases is a challenging problem. The current study focuses on different ensemble learning classification algorithms using highly unbalanced databases of results from in-situ tests; standard penetration test (SPT), shear wave velocity (Vs) test, and cone penetration test (CPT). The input parameters for these datasets consist of earthquake intensity parameters, strong ground motion parameters, and in-situ soil testing parameters. liquefaction index serving as the binary output parameter. After a rigorous comparison with existing literature, extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), bagging, and random forest (RF) emerge as the most efficient models for liquefaction instance classification across different datasets. Notably, for SPT and Vs-based models, XGBoost exhibits superior performance, followed by Light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM) and Bagging, while for CPT-based models, Bagging ranks highest, followed by Gradient boosting and random forest, with CPT-based models demonstrating lower Gmean(error), rendering them preferable for soil liquefaction susceptibility prediction. Key parameters influencing model performance include internal friction angle of soil (ϕ) and percentage of fines less than 75 µ (F75) for SPT and Vs data and normalized average cone tip resistance (qc) and peak horizontal ground acceleration (amax) for CPT data. It was also observed that the addition of Vs measurement to SPT data increased the efficiency of the prediction in comparison to only SPT data. Furthermore, to enhance usability, a graphical user interface (GUI) for seamless classification operations based on provided input parameters was proposed.

This study has developed an Enhanced Remote-Sensing (ERS) scale to improve the accuracy and efficiency of using remote-sensing images of residential building to predict their damage conditions. The new scale, by incorporating multiple damage states observable on remote-sensing imagery, substantially reduces measurement errors and increases the amount of information retained. A ground damage survey was conducted six days after the Joplin EF 5 tornado in 2011. A total of 1,400 one- and two-family residences (FR12) were selected and their damage states were evaluated based on Degree of Damage (DOD) in the Enhanced Fujita (EF) scale. A subsequent remote-sensing survey was performed to rate damages with the ERS scale using high-resolution aerial imagery. Results from Ordinary Least Square regression indicate that ERS-derived damage states could reliably predict the ground level damage with 94% of variance in DOD explained by ERS. The superior performance is mainly because ERS extracts more information. The regression model developed can be used for future rapid assessment of tornado damages. In addition, this study provides strong empirical evidence for the effectiveness of the ERS scale and remote-sensing technology for assessment of damages from tornadoes and other wind events.
The radiometric correction is prerequisite to derive both land and ocean surface properties from optical remote sensing data. Radiometric calibration of remotely sensed data has traditionally been accomplished by means of vicarious ground calibration techniques. The purpose of this study is to calibrate the radiometric characteristic of Airborne Multispectral Scanner (AMS) by field campaign. In order to calibrate the AMS data, four different spectral tarps which are 3.5%, 23%, 35%, and 53% were validated by GER-3700 that is the surface reflectance measurement equipment and were utilized. After validation of the spectral tarps, each reflectance from the spectral tarps was compared with Digital Number (DN) value of AMS. There was very high correlation between tarp reflectance and DN value of AMS so that radiometric calibration of AMS data has been accomplished by those results. The calibrated AMS data were validated with in-situ measured reflectance data from artificial and natural target. Also QuickBird image data were used for verifying the results of AMS radiometric calibration. This presentation discusses the results of the above tests.
The common underwater rock removal methods involve underwater blasting and crane's chisel dropping impact method. From an environmental point of view, these methods cause ground vibrations and underwater noise. At the site for this study, a method of dropping heavyweight chisel is selected to remove the underwater bedrock near the ferry rack in the course of improving the cargo handling ability of the loading dock. A prediction formula for the vibration was obtained based on the measurement and evaluation of the vibrations caused by the chisel dropping impacts during the test droppings. The prediction formula was successfully applied to the main construction for securing the stability of the structure.
In this paper, system that includes multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are considered. The vehicles are equipped with a mission computer for a specific mission and equipment. The mission equipment operates based on the time of mission computer. Also, data collected by flight computer and mission computer is saved with the time of each operating system. Generally, time offset between multiple computers always exists, though the computers are connected to the Internet. When the data collected by multiple computers is combined, the time offset causes damage on reliability of the combined data. Computers that connected to the Internet are synchronized by network time protocol (NTP). This paper proposes a system that the time of multiple mission computers are synchronized by the same NTP server to minimize the time offset. In the results of the measurement, the system time offset of multiple mission computer is maintained within 10ms from the system time of the server computer.
