Helical anchors are foundation structure that designed to resist uplift loads are installed by applying in load to shaft while rotating it into the ground. These can be a cost effective means of proving tension anchorage for foundation where soil conditions permit their installation because of ease of installation. At present time, tapered helical anchors are commonly used to carry uplift loads. The uplift capacity includes the following factors : the height of overburden above the top helix, the resistant along a cylinder, the weight of the soil in the cylinder and suction force. In order to make clear behavior characteristics of helical anchors with pullout, model tests were conducted with respect to various embedment depth, space of helix, shape of helix. Based on the experimental study, the following conclusions are drawn. 1) The uplift capacity of multi helical anchors increase with embedment ratio of anchors The increase is smooth after critical uplift capacity. 2) Critical breakout factors and critical embedment ratio of multi helical anchor exist 7∼8, 4∼6 respectively. 3) Variation of uplift capacity with helix spaces show down after S/D=5. 4) Critical breakout factors of helical anchor in the laboratory test are similar to Das's theory.
In this study, the research on MC anchor has been developed as composite type has done. MC anchor exerts bearing pressure on pre-bored hole where the end fixing device is expanded. Therefore, the uplift capacity is to be increased and it has the characteristics that the anchor body is not eliminated from the ground even if the grouting is not carried out properly. Furthermore, it reduces the loss of tension and raises the construction availability by inserting the reinforced bar as well as the anchor cable, while it can improve the long-term stability because the nail is expected to play the role when the loss of the anchor cable is occurred in a long-term. However, because the resistance mechanism of the compound anchor such as MC anchor is different from friction anchor, the estimation method of the uplift capacity by the frictional force of the ground and the grout is not proper. Particularly, in domestic cases, the problem to overestimate or underestimate the uplift capacity is expected because the design method considering the soil characteristics about the compound anchor has not been developed. Therefore, in this study, in order to evaluate the characteristics of MC anchor and a kind of compound anchor, we measured the uplift, the tension and the creep by nine anchors tests in shale ground that the fluctuation of the strength is great. In addition, we analyzed the test result comparing to the result of the general friction anchor and evaluated the characteristics of MC anchor movement to gather the results. As a result of the test, we found the effect that the uplift capacity is increased in shale ground comparing to the general friction anchor.
Recently the large scale civil engineering projects are being implemented by reclaiming the sea or utilizing seashore and river embankment areas. The reclaimed land and utilized seashore are mostly soft ground that doesn't have sufficient bearing capacity. This soft ground consists of fine-grained soil such as clayey and silty soils or large void soil like peat or loose sand. It has high ground water table and it may cause the failure and crock of building foundation by uplift pressure and ground water leakage. In this study, the permittivity and the transmissivity were evaluated with the applied normal pressure in the laboratory. The laboratory model tests were conducted by utilizing geocomposite drainage system for draining the water out to release the uplift pressure. The soil used in the laboratory drainage test was dredged soil from the reclaimed land where uplift pressure problems can arise in soil condition. Geocomposite drainage system was installed at the bottom of apparatus and dredged soil was layered with compaction. Subsequently the water pressure was supplied from the top of specimen and the quantities of drainage and the pore water pressure were measured at each step water pressure. The results of laboratory measurements were compared with theoretical values. For the evaluation of propriety of laboratory drainage test, 2-D finite elements analysis that can analyze the distribution and the transferring of pore water pressure was conducted and compared with laboratory test results.
The purpose of this study is to estimate ultimate uplift capacity of permanent anchor which was cast into weathered rock. The ultimate uplift capacity was estimated from the load-displacement curve of four different anchors which have different bond length. The creep test was performed for 15minutes under the maximum load of each step in order to understand the load-transfer property of permanent anchor and to decide which anchor to choose. The destruction range of soil due to the changes in load was estimated by installing dial gauge on the ground which was cast into the weathered rock. Ultimately, the study on the behavior of the anchor case into the weathered rock was performed by comparing and analyzing the estimated result of the UUC obtained by the full scale pull out test in the field with the exsting theoretical and practical results of soil and rock anchor.
A series of model tests were conducted in order to observe the failure surface generated around a diaphragm wall embedded in ground with high groundwater table. Images of the soil deformation around the model wall were captured during the test. The configuration of the failure surface in soil around the model wall could be obtained from analyzing the image of the soil deformation. Based on the configuration of the failure surface observed in the model test, an analytical approach was proposed to predict the uplift capacity of a diaphragm wall installed in ground. The analytical approach considers not only the wall properties such as length, thickness and surface roughness of diaphragm walls but also the soil strength properties such as the internal friction angle and the cohesion of soil. The predicted uplift capacity of a diaphragm wall shows a good agreement with the experimental one measured in the model test.

The transition section of the overhead rigid conductor rail (ORCR) consists of a direct induction device and a limit point to prevent the power supply failure and failure of the electric railway vehicle pantograph due to the difference of the uplift in the catenary line. In T-Bar transition section, a twin simple catenary is mostly installed between the overhead catenary system (OCS) in the ground section and the ORCR in the underground section. In this paper, we compare and analyze the possibility of replacing the twin simple catenary with heavy simple catenary. The reliability of numerical analysis results was confirmed by comparing field test with numerical results. Comparing the numerical results of the twin simple catenary with the heavy simple catenary in the transition section, the difference uplift is 5.9[mm] on average. When applying heavy simple catenary instead of twin simple catenary, the slight difference of uplift can be compensated by adjusting the height of hanger-ear or support bracket.
Engineering behaviour of uplift-resisting ground anchors constructed in weathered rocks has been investigated by carrying out a series of full scale pull-out tests. The anchor was to resist uplift forces (buoyancy) associated with high groundwater table acting on the basement of a rail way station. The study has included the ultimate pull-out capacity of the anchors and shear stress transfer mechanism at the anchor-ground interface. The pull-out tests were conducted by changing bonded lengths of the anchor (2~7 m) and diameter of drilled borehole (108~165 mm) to investigate their effects on the behaviour of the anchor. The measured results showed that the ultimate capacity of the anchors was increased with an increase in the bonded length, diameter of drilled borehole as expected. The ultimate capacity of the anchors deduced from the pull-out tests ranged from 392 to 1,569 kN, depending on the above-mentioned factors. This corresponds to the interface shear strength of about 227~505 kPa. Interface shear stresses deduced from the pull-out test showed that the larger the pull-out force, the larger the mobilisation of the interface shear strength. The failure mode of the anchors heavily depended on the bonded lengths of the anchors. When the bonded length was short (2~3 m), a cone-type failure was observed, whereas when the bonded length increased (5~7 m), failure developed at the grout-ground interface.

A sub-structure is uplift if the floating greater than dead load of a structure. When such occasion arise, a structure sustain damage. In general, the measures for floating prevention of structure are a permanent anchor method and a drainage method. The primary construction cost of a permanent anchor method is heavy. And a drainage method is needed maintenance management long term. At this point, the measures for floating prevention of a notion being requires the other days. Therefore, at this study a simple construction and a economic vertical drainage system was developed. The findings be used in the in-situ and gave careful consideration to an application. The result of examination, this system considering a characteristic of coefficient of permeability for the ground controls occurrence of floating despite the water level rise of the ground, which a period of construction get shorter compared with other methods, which understood that measures satisfactory in the financial aspect. Especially, A structure occurring effects of flatting under the course of construction made use of it. As the result of the effect of it was confirmed by construction.
During the 2004 Niigata-ken Chuetsu, Japan, earthquake, more than 1,450 underground structures, known as sewer manhole, were uplifted up to 1.5m in Nagaoka and Ojiya city. The uplift damage can be a serious matter because they not only hinder the flow of wastewater systems, as a part of lifeline systems, but also disturb traffic flows. For restoration works, an open-cut investigation of damaged wastewater system was conducted by the Nagaoka city government. The results from the investigation compiled valuable data sets for buried pipeline damage due to earthquakes. In the present study, the factors affecting the uplift amount of the underground structure is investigated by using the data sets which include locations of damaged sections and inclination of pipeline before and after the earthquake and the SPT borehole logs in the affected area. Correlation analysis between the underground structure uplift and the geological settings in the affected area revealed that ground water depth and original subsoil, including thickness of clay layer, SPT N-value and fill thickness are the key parameters for the uplift phenomenon.
In this study, laboratory model test was performed to estimate pullout behavior of pipe type anchor with surface roughness, embedment and diameter. The design of buried pipe anchors in areas of vertical ground movement is governed, in part, by magnitude of the forces imposed on the pipe and displacements at which they are developed. In this paper, uplift resistance and displacement characteristics of pipe anchors caused by ground condition and embedment ratio, surface roughness, pipe diameter through the analysis of pipe anchor model test were compared and analyzed. The test results of the buried pipe showed that as the relative density increases, ultimate uplift resistance increase in 20%. When pipe anchor is failed with the relative density of the ground, the change of surface roughness, it was shown that the deformation increases as the ratio of penetration increases from 2 to 8 in five times approximately. And most anchor-based theories overestimate the breakout factor.
