To investigate the effects of independent suspension technology(IST) of hiking boot on the stability and load of foot, eight participants performed medial and lateral drop landing from 33.4cm height and 85cm distance to uneven surface while wearing normal & IST hiking boots. For the stability of foot during the drop landing, the balance angle & suspension angle and rearfoot angle was analyzed using high-speed video analysis. Also kinetic analysis using the force plate and insole pressure measurement was conducted to analyze vertical & breaking ground reaction force and pressure distribution. Not only the balance angle & suspension angle but also rearfoot angle was improved with IST boots for lateral drop landing. These results indicate the IST boots may have the suspension function which keeps the foot to be stable during landing. However the IST boots did not show any effect for medial landing. This might be related to the hardness of medial part of outsole. Therefore the softer outsole of medial part could be recommended. Furthermore the impact force & breaking force and insole pressure were reduced with IST boot. These results means that IST boot has not only cushioning effect but also good grip effect. Therefore the hiking boots applied the independent suspension function may help to reduce fatigue and prevent injury such as ankle sprain in hiking on uneven surface.

The thickness of the material can be thinned because arch cut-and-cover tunnel has the support mechanism by the axial force, and the ground reaction force due moderate deformation can be expected thereby making it be dynamically advantageous, therefore the arch cut-and-cover tunnel has become more widely used. An important characteristic of the arch cut-and-cover tunnel is that the thickness of the material can be thinned because precast arch type has the support mechanism by the axial force. However, there is a different stress state surrounding the structures between normally excavated tunnels and cut-and-cover tunnels, it should be considered at designing. Therefore, finite element method was carried out to examine the mechanical behavior of the precast arch cut-and-cover tunnel considering construction procedure.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the lower extremity muscle activity and knee joint load according to movement speed conditions during the barbell back squat. Method: Nine males with resistance training experience participated in this study. Participants performed the barbell back squat in three conditions (Standard, Fast, and Slow) differing movement speed. During the barbell back squat, muscle activity of the rectus femoris (RF), vastus lateralis (VL), vastus medialis (VM), biceps femoris long head (BFL), semitendinosus (ST), gluteus maximus (GM), gastrocnemius (GCN), and tibialis anterior (TA) was collected using an 8 channel wireless EMG system. The peak flexion angle of the lower extremity joints and the peak resultant joint force in each direction of the knee joint were calculated using eight motion capture cameras and ground reaction force plates. This study was to used the Friedman test and the Wilcoxon signed rank test, to compare lower extremity muscle activity and peak resultant joint force at knee joint according to movement speed conditions during the barbell back squat, and the statistical significance level was set at .01. Results: In the downward phase of the barbell back squat, the RF and TA showed the higher muscle activity in the fast condition, and in the upward phase, RF, VL, VM, BFL, ST, GM, and TA showed the higher muscle activity in the fast condition. As a results, analyzing of the load on the knee joint, in the downward phase, and in the upward phase, the higher peak compressive force of the knee joint was showed in the fast condition. Conclusion: The barbell back squat with fast movement speed was more effective due to increased muscle activity of lower extremity, but one must be careful of knee joint injuries because the load on the knee joint may increase during the barbell back squat with fast movement speed.

In this study we presented kinematic and kinetic data of foot joints using approximated equations and partial plantar pressure during gait. The maximum angular displacements of each tarsometatarsal joint were found to range from 4$^{\circ}$to 7$^{\circ}$ and the maximum moments were from 200Nㆍcm to 1500Nㆍcm. It was relatively wide distribution. Foot kinematic data calculated from the approximated equations, which were represented by the correlation between moment and angular displacement, and the data from motion analysis were similar. We found that the movements of foot joint were mainly decided by the passive characteristics of the joint when ground reaction force acts. The method of kinematic and kinetic analysis using approximated equations which is presented in this study is considered useful to describe the movements of foot joints in gait simulations.
To understand kinetic characteristics during the process of initation of gait from standing, from the visual cue to toe off of the stance limb, vertical ground reaction forces(GRF) and center of pressure(COP) during gait initation period were evaluate with two force platforms placed side by side in thirty two adults(young 16, elderly 16, each mean age 27.79 and 51.70 years) with no history of 7 neuromusculo-skeletal abnormality. Gaint initation period of swing and stance limbs, percentage of gait initiation period and ratio of the vertical forces to body weight at each peak of the vertical forces of both limbs, and also movement of net COP were measured and described. 2 groups, one of 16 young adults and another of 16 elderly adults, were compared statistically. These data showed the increase of initiation of gait period and the decrease of movement of net COP, nd also can now be used as a part of database when initation of gait in subjects with neuromusculoskeletal abnormalities need to be evaluated.

The foot plays an important role in supporting the body and keeping body balance. An abnormal walking habit breaks the balance of the human body as well as the function of the foot. The foot orthotics which is designed to consider biomechanics effectively distributes the load of the human body on the sole of the foot. In this paper, gait analysis was performed for three male subjects wearing the orthotics. In this study, three male subjects were selected. The experimental apparatus consists of a plantar pressure analysis system and digital EMG system. The gait characteristics are simulated by ADAMS/LifeMOD. The COP (Center of Pressure), EMG and ground reaction force were investigated. As a result of gait analysis, the path of COP was improved and muscle activities were decreased with orthotics on the abnormal walking subjects.
This study treats the method for kinematic modeling of the biped walking robot, for synthesizing various gait trajectories, and for calculating adequate values of the joint torque inside the stable region. To synthesize various and anthropomorphic walking easily, the gait trajectory is specified by a set of ten walking prameters, and the trunk motion equation is derived by the zero moment point and the gait trajectory. By distributing ground reaction force and moment reduced at the zero moment point to the both feet, the joint torque equation can be derived readily, and according to this equation, the joint torque to stable walking can be computed.

The Observational Method proposed by Terzaghi can be applied for the safe and economic construction projects where the exact prediction of the behavior of the structures is difficult as in the underground excavation. The method consists of measuring lateral displacement, ground settlement and axial force of supports in the earlier stage of the construction and back analysis technique to find the best fit design parameters such as earth pressure coefficient, subgrade reaction etc, which will minimize the gap between calculated displacement and measured displacement. With the results, more reliable prediction of the later stage can be obtained. In this study, back analysis programs using the Direct Method, based on the Hill Climbing Method were made and evaluated, and to overcome the limits of the method, Genetic Algorithm(GA) was applied and tested for the actual construction cases.
A study was conducted to investigate the possible effects of fatigue which was resulted from increased running time on the stability during a prolonged run. The purposes of this study were twofold: first, to determine the discrete and non-linear variability of GRF (ground reaction force) components between running times to know the body stability, and second, to determine the pattern between discrete and non-linear variability. Nineteens healthy young adult males served in this study as subjects who ran at their preferred running speed. GRF data for twenty strides were collected at 5, 65, and 125 minutes during run. Variance coefficient and Lyapunov Exponent techniques on the GRF data were used to calculate variability index for each of the running time conditions. There were no difference between discrete variabilities of three components of GRF, but non-linear variability of the Fz component of GRF was decreased by increasing running time (p<.01). No relationship was found between discrete and non-linear variability.
Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the net joint moment and joint power of the lower extremity during squat in female patients with genu varum. Method: Eight female patients with genu varum were asked to do regular squats, and their net joint moment and joint power were compared to those of another eight female participants with straight legs. Their video recordings and ground reaction force data were analyzed to be used as a theoretical evidence of squatting effectively for female patients with genu varum. Results: Squats had a higher impact on internal knee joint rotation and ankle joint flexion moments in the genu varum group than in the straight leg group due to their weak and short hip joint muscles. Conclusion: There is a need to develop a squat movement that is appropriate for women with genu varum in order to distribute overload efficiently among the hip, knee, and ankle joints and to strengthen the muscles in a balanced way.
