  • Considering the present development situation of domestic apartment complexes, the environment and its landscape is monotonous and dull, so the diversity is very important socially and visually. The ground floor dwellings can influence the richness and diversity of ground landscape in the apartment housing. Because they are set on the ground and directly contact with people's sight line. In this context, this study aims to identify the elements of design diversity in the ground floor dwellings, to analysis the architectural characteristics of them and to propose the improvement of diversity.

  • Researches on the pit dwellings in the Joseon Dynasty era have been constantly conducted in the archeology field since the beginning of the 2000s. Most of the related researches in the past have been on the classification and chronological record of dwelling types in archeology, but architectural researches on the dwelling history that is connected from the prehistoric age to the Joseon Dynasty era are insufficient. There are no big differences between the excavated pit dwellings of the Joseon Dynasty era and those of the prehistoric age, so pit dwellings were considered to have been used as dwellings for common people until the Joseon dynasty era. This fact is confirmed by the frequency and density of pit dwellings. In this research, what space composition of the pit dwellings that are equipped with the Korean floor heating system is shown according to the plan types was examined and the development and transition process from pit dwellings to Folk houses were analyzed and their correlations with the Folk houses of the Joseon Dynasty era were examined. The Folk house form did not start with the form of the house on the ground but originate from the introduction of Ondol, the Korean floor heating system, to pit dwellings. As the Korean floor heating system is used, the room and kitchen space are composed in the pit dwelling, and the kitchen is expanded to the one that separates the fireplace for cooking to avoid heating that is unnecessary for the summer season. As the size of the dwelling was getting bigger, the division of the space is made by the pillars that support the interior space. Also, the dwelling is expanded into a single row house and a double row house according to the progress direction of Ondol. In other words, the pit dwellings in the Joseon Dynasty era develops with making up diverse floors through the combination and expansion of Ondol and kitchen according to the dweller's convenience and life style and surrounding environment. This research is significant in the sense that it helps understand the formation and development process of our traditional Folk houses and fills the gap between the pit dwellings, which have been dealt with inadequately, and traditional Folk houses in the Korean dwelling history.

  • For the pleasant dwelling place, the most of apartments are designed with the increased green area ratio in ground space and the underground parking lot. However, the condensation in underground space has occasionally occurred due to the insufficient ventilation and insulation treatment. Despite reinforcement of the insulation treatment and mechanical ventilation for the preventing method of condensation. It seems difficult to expect preventing effects for the condensation without consideration of the thermal characteristic of structures. Furthermore, no fundamental measure has been established because maintenance work for these defects incurs a lot of costs and these defects could be occurred again. This study suggests a new method for preventing floor surface condensation through analyzing the reasons of condensation which occurred in the underground floor.

  • The purpose of this paper is to accomplish the stable humanoid robot walking on the soft terrains. The goal of the humanoid robot development is to make the robotic system perform some tasks in human living environment. However, human dwelling environments are very different from those of laboratories, where varied experiments are performed by the robot. In many cases, the ground is soft or elastic unlike the floor of a laboratory. When a robot walks on the soft ground, the sole of robot contacts the uneven ground. This results in unstable walking or walking may be impossible according to the degree of softness. Therefore, the algorithm that facilitates stable walking on the soft ground surface is required. In this paper, we suggest an algorithm that controls the ankle to help the robot walk stably on the soft ground using the humanoid robot (ISHURO-II) as a real model. A humanoid robot walking on the soft ground was simulated to verify that the proposed algorithm results in stable walking.

  • The purpose of this study is to present an integrated analysis for energy use and its patterns as vertical locations of the dwelling units in apartment buildings which are located in an urban area and constructed by a renowned contractor. In order to enhance the effectiveness of the method, the original data of electricity, water, and gas bills which directly reflect the energy use are sorted and analyzed into several groups as vertical locations in each building. And also, by use of comparing and contrasting the data on a monthly and yearly basis, the accuracy of analyses for seasonal energy use and its patterns is strengthened. Comparative analyses used in this study describe the results that vertical locations of dwelling units do not have much influence on electricity and water usage, but are closely related with gas usage for a heating season. According to the analysis of gas usage, the units on the ground and right above pilotis need enhancement in the insulations for heating to mitigate energy loss. Also, the analysis for the middle floor units in each group describe the fact that the gas usage of the units on the ground is consumes 1.5 times greater than that of the typical floors. Therefore, enhanced insulation strategies need to be considered against the adverse condition that the heat loss increases as the wall facing the outside air increases or as the wind velocity increases through the pilotis.

  • This study has been peformed to investigate storage space types of old-fashioned traditional dwelling units where older couples maintain their traditional farming lives. In this study it is observed that residents of the traditional farm-houses are exposed to higher level of environmental and emotional pressures. However it is also observed that the older residents are generally manifesting a consistent subculture of the old-timers without noticeable complaints. The usage and morphology of storage spaces are as follows: (1) Storage space in the ceiling are under control of old couple and used for seasonally varied farm products and household equipment. (3) All the households use longterm storage space under wooden floor; the hidden ground is used for keeping miscellaneous tools and fermented foods for years. Overall in this stud it is observed that traditional farm houses are well modified for physically and emotionally frail elderly residents.

  • This study focused on the architectural, interior and management guidelines in rehabilitation center for visually impaired persons. For these purposes, we reviewed the movement behaviors and the characteristics of fire drill in rehabilitation center for visually impaired persons. The results are as follows. : First, the liner circulation paths and interior landmarks are recommended, and dwelling units and program rooms should be located in ground floor for barrier free evacuation. Second, It is important to establish continuous handrail, variations of paving patterns and materials, good color definition, tactile informations and directional sound. Third, it is necessary to serve more specified architectural, interior, and management guidelines according to impaired prototypes.
