  • In this study, we are focusing our attention on lift characteristics of the low aspect wings for Wing-In Ground effect crafts (WIG). Experimental measurements at an open-type wind tunnel are carried out and results are comparatively presented. In order to simulate the realistic ground condition in where the WIG craft is flying, moving ground is implemented by a conveyor belt rotating with the same velocity of the inflow. We consider two different wings (NACA0012 and DHMTU section) which have four different aspect ratios (0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0). Forces acting on the wings are measured and lift characteristics are elaborately investigated for various different conditions. In addition, end-plate effects are estimated. Results are validated by comparing with theoretic solutions of the symmetric airfoil. Present results show that ground effects are differently generated in moving or fixed ground conditions, and hence left characteristics are affected by the ground condition. Consequently, accurate aerodynamic forces acting on the WIG craft are guaranteed in a realistic moving ground condition.

  • The vibration resulting from railway operation is transmitted through the track and line structure, ground movements to adjacent buildings. As these vibration is growing, there is occurred exaggerated forces and displacements of the track and line structure and it is causing the differential settlement. It is difficult to clarify the dynamic response characteristics of trackbed because of various environmental conditions. However, track irregularity be affected by ununiformed bearing capacity and its dynamic response, study for dynamic response characteristics is required to investigate the cause of track irregularity and countermeasure. This study was intended to evaluate the numerical analysis which exam the response analysis characteristic of ground vibration by shape of cutting and embankment transition zone. The original method of analysis were have to examine variables such as directions, angles, drain conditions, linear conditions. However, In the analysis there were to consider the effect of moving loads according to directions of cutting and embankment transition zone.

  • The analytical model of the ground wave can be used for the prediction of the noise level from a source above a plain and homogeneous ground surface with no obstacles nearby. Sound propagation along the surface of the ground can be affected by the roughness of the ground surface and the direction of the wind. The effects of the ground surface and the wind can be formulated in terms of the ground coefficient and the noise source parameter. Upward and downward conditions can also be addressed by considering the direction of the wind. The ground coefficient and the noise source parameter are estimated using the measured noise levels of two points under particular environmental condition, and the noise levels of arbitrary points under the same environmental condition can be estimated. The proposed method can be utilized to estimate the noise level of specific noise environment and its validity was confirmed with the results of actual field measurement.

  • We must notice ground movement by excavation for reasonable tunnel designs. The convergence confinement method is an attempt to evaluate tunnel stability conditions by means of a mathematical model and a ground response curve. In this study, the convergence confinement method by numerical model was examined. This method don't need the basic assumptions for a mathematical model of circular tunnel shape, and hydrostatic in situ stress. Also modified ground response curve that is calculated after installing the support, is suggested, which informs us the ground movement mechanism. The ground response curve and the support reaction curve are mutually dependent. Especially the support reaction curve depends upon the ground response curve. The mechanism of tunnel must be analyzed by the interaction between support and ground. Consequently the stability of tunnel must be qualitatively investigated by a ground response curve and quantitatively adjudged by a numerical analysis for the reasonable design of tunnel.

  • In this study a modified ground strain model is developed for an equivalent earthquake load and is applied to the seismic analysis of buried pipelines, The ground strain can be obtained using the ratio of a maximum ground velocity to a wave propagation velocity. To reflect soil conditions and seismic characteristics the wave propagation velocity is evaluated by a proposed dispersion curve based on wave energy distribution. In order to verify the procedures the observed earthquake data and the results of this study are compared. For the application of an equivalent earthquake load to the seismic analysis the buried pipelines are modeled using the beam theory. the results of the analyses are compared with those of a dynamic analysis code and those obtained from the response displacement method. Finally various parametric studies considering different soil conditions and seismic loads are examined.

  • For analyze of the bearing capacity, skin friction and settlements of pile on axial compressive loading, both Load transfer tests of pile and pile loading test in field have application to commonly before pile installing. A bearing capacity of pile was affected by the characteristics of surrounding ground of pile. Especially, that is very different because of evaluation of settlement due to each soil conditions of ground depths. The ground characteristics using evaluation of bearing capacity of pile through load transfer analysis depends on N values of SPT, and then a bearing capacity of pile installed soft ground and refilled area may be difficult to rational evaluation. An evaluation of bearing capacity on pile applied axial compressive loading was effected by strength of ground installed pile, unconfined compressive strength at pile tip, pile diameter, rough of excavated surface, confining pressure and deformation modules of rock etc and these are commonly including the unreliability due to slime occurred excavation works. Load transfer characteristics considered ground conditions take charge of load transfer of large diameter pile was investigated through case study applied load transfer tests. To these, matrix analytical technique of load transfer using finite differential equation developed and compared with the results of pile load test.

  • In this study, a sensitivity analysis was carried out by using numerical analysis under the consideration that it is difficult to analyze the behavior of real piled raft foundations on different ground conditions through a real scale test. The program used for numerical analysis is FLAC 3D based on the finite difference method. Piles were modelled by using pile element that is one of the structure elements of FLAC 3D and the ground and raft were modelled by using continuum element. With a fixed pile arrangement of $3{\times}3$, the diameter, length, space of piles, and ground conditions were selected as sensitivity parameters and their mutual correlation were investigated. As a result, the bigger and longer pile diameter, length and pile space are, the bigger the bearing capacity of the piled raft becomes. When pile space exceeded a specific value, however, the piled raft foundation behaved like a shallow foundation supported by only a raft. Also it can be confirmed that the better ground conditions are, the more total bearing capacity of the piled raft foundation increases.

  • In this paper, through experimental research, the period when rock bolts exert support effects is presented as grout strength and through numerical analysis, the rock bolt pull-out behavior according to ground conditions and strength reduction factors is analyzed. As a result, it is determined that rock bolts exhibit their reinforcing effect at a grout strength of 5 MPa (cured for 18 hours). The influence of the boundary interface strength reduction factor was found to be significant for rock bolt displacement in weak ground conditions, for shear stress between grout and ground in highly elastic ground conditions, and for grout stress in all ground conditions. These findings are expected to contribute to the establishment of specific standards for rock bolt testing and numerical analysis, and to facilitate improved design and implementation of rock bolt reinforcement.
