  • Recently, due to abnormal climate caused by climate change, natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and soil outflows are rapidly increasing. In Korea, more than 63% of the land is vulnerable to slope disasters due to the geographical characteristics of mountainous areas, and in particular, Quarry mines soil and rocks, so there is a high risk of landslides not only inside the workplace but also outside.Accordingly, this study built a DEM using UAV and aviation LiDAR for monitoring the quarry, conducted a time series change analysis, and proposed an optimal DEM construction method for monitoring the soil collection site. For DEM construction, UAV and LiDAR-based Point Cloud were built, and the ground was extracted using three algorithms: Aggressive Classification (AC), Conservative Classification (CC), and Standard Classification (SC). UAV and LiDAR-based DEM constructed according to the algorithm evaluated accuracy through comparison with digital map-based DEM.

  • The National Construction Research Institute of Korea has measured the depth of the frozen ground covering all the areas of South Korea during ten years ranging through 1980. The measurements were made for the frozen ground at random but intended for the most frost-susceptible soils. The soils of the frozen ground were sampled and then classifide into four groups according to the frost design soil classification system suggested by the Corps of Engineers of the United States. The contours of the maximum depth of the frost penetration are drawn on a map with data collected during the ten years. Also isolines of the design frezing index are shown on an another map using the metorological information of 1980-1989 and compared whth those in vestigated in 1980 by Highway Survey Team of the Ministry of Construction, Korea. It is known that the maximum depth of the frost penetration is related to freezing index values. An empirical formula expressing the relation is suggsted, in which the depth is proportional to the one-third power of the air freezing index values.

  • This study is objected to identify the relations between surface- and shallow ground-water and the seasonal variation of their qualities in watersheds near Muju area. The water type shows mainly Ca-$HCO_3$type. Heavy-metal contamination of surface water is locally detected, due to the mixing with mine drainage. In October nitrate concentration is especially high in densely populated area. Cluster Analysis and Principal Component Analysis are implemented to interpret the complexity of the chemical variation of surface- and ground-water with large amount of chemical data. Based on the cluster analysis, surface-water was divided into five groups and ground-water into three groups. Principal Component Analysis efficiently supports the result of cluster analysis, allowing the identification of three main factors controlling the water quality. There are (1) hydrogeochemical factor, (2) anthropogenic factor and (3) heavy metal contaminated by mine drainage.

  • Recent development of related technologies and efficient utilization of the entire country for the purpose of railway construction, and plans are being accelerated. the railway noise has been improved by increasing the high speed railway station, and accelerating the existing trains. Nord2000 which is an overseas noise prediction equation could not be applied directly to the domestic railway vehicles. So the specific vehicles in the Nordic countries which is a similar specification to domestic trains should be selected. Nord2000's accuracy was compared to Schall03, CRN's. Prediction of Ground impedance and Roughness class were carried out at different. In this paper, the result of selected vehicles for Nord2000 was as follows. S-1aX2 was for express trains, N-$^*2c$-3b was for Mugunghwa, S-Pass/wood was for Saemaul, N-4a was for freight trains, N-3a was for subway, the calculation time for Nord2000 took longer than others, in addition, Ground absorption was indispensable to calculate a noise map for Nord2000. As a result, CRN's prediction noise levels at Wonju-si was closest to the measurements. However, the predicted noise levels of Nord2000 was the most accurate.

  • In this paper, seismic fragility analysis of lightning arrester is performed using capacity spectrum method(CSM). Since seismic fragility analysis of structure with many structural members is required to calculate many inelastic responses for several tens or hundreds of ground motions, simple method such as CSM is more appropriate than response history analysis(RHA). In general, accuracy of seismic response evaluated by CSM is less than that by RHA. In order to increase accuracy of CSM, equivalent SDOF method and performance point calculation technique are applied to CSM. Seismic fragility method proposed by Shinozuka et al. is used. In order to evaluate site effect of ground motions on seismic fragility, 60 different site classification earthquakes are selected as input ground motions. From the seismic fragility curves of lightning arrester evaluated by CSM and RHA, it can be observed that the seismic fragility curves evaluated by CSM are very similar to those by RHA. Also, it can be observed that main seismic failure mode of lightning arrest is bushing breakage.

  • This paper analyze the precast panel retaining wall's safety factor changes based on the numerical analysis using PLAXIS 2D software. Numerical analysis conditions include construction method, nail and panel fixing method, backfill material compaction conditions, rainfall conditions. The classification according to the construction method of the precast panel retaining wall includes the top-down and bottom-up methods. The difference between the top-down and bottom-up methods is the presence or absence backfill material and the ground excavation method. The top-down method involves vertically excavating the ground and attaching the panel using mortar, but in the bottom-up method, the ground is vertically excavated and harden the backfill material. As a result of numerical analysis, the top-down method secured a higher safety factor in all cases except the rainfall conditions.

  • In this study, the stability analyses for metal mine roadways at a great depth were performed. In-situ stress measurements using hydrofracturing, numerous laboratory tests for rock cores and GSI & RMR classifications were conducted in order to find the physical properties of both intact rock and in-situ rock mass distributed in the studied metal mine. Through the scenario analysis and probabilistic assessment on the results of rock mass classification, the in-situ ground conditions of mine roadways were divided into the best, the average and the worst cases, respectively. The roadway stabilities corresponding to the respective conditions were assessed by way of the elasto-plastic analysis. In addition, the appropriate roadway shapes and the support patterns were examined through the numerical analyses considering the blast damaged zone around roadway. It was finally shown to be necessary to reduce the radius of roadway roof curvature and/or to install the crown reinforcement in order to enhance the stability of studied mine roadways.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial change of water quality pollutant in the upper-stream of Kumho River basin. For this purpose, it compared with ground survey data of water quality measurement, using GIS and Landsat TM image, and then constructed a database of water quality pollutants in the watershed by Arc/Info. Also the land cover classification maps of 1985 and 1997 were prepared using maximum likelihood classification. This study detected and analysed the classified images to produce the area of land cover change per sub-basin. In addition, choropleth maps were prepared with spatial change value of water quality pollutants, and overlay analysis was carried out with weight score for each layer. The results of this study revealed that population, animals and fruit orchards were main factors in the spatial change of water pollution of Kumho River basin. The Comparision of pollutions by sub-basins showed a high pollution value in Daechang-chun and Omok -chun stream which follows through the urban area.
