  • Recently, the relevance of the Air Quality Index considering major factors related to the air environment and the local economy and community was analyzed in abraod. In Korea, a comprehensive air-quality index has been proposed. In this study, the comprehensive air-quality index and the index that can integrate Gross Domestic Product per capita were summarized as regional attractiveness. As a result of the analysis, Ulsan, Chungnam, Seoul, Chungbuk, and Jeonnam had the highest Gross domestic product per capita, and Jeju, Gyeongnam, and Gyeongbuk had the best Comprehensive air-quality index, and Ulsan had the highest attractiveness. As a result of the correlation analysis, it was found that there was no correlation between the two variables, Gross domestic product per capita and Comprehensive air-quality index, because various factors such as topographical characteristics, hazardous substances, and local government's efforts were not taken into account. As a result of sensitivity analysis, Ulsan had the highest sensitivity and variance for Gross domestic product per capita and Comprehensive air-quality index. As for the relative ratio of attractiveness between regions, Ulsan's attractiveness was 2.95 times that of Daegu's, indicating a large difference between regions.

  • The purpose of this research is to apply the regional development attractiveness of the national level determined in the previous study to the city and county level of Chungcheongnam-do. We verified results with the population change of the floating population data. In order to measure regional development attractiveness in 2020, Chungcheongnam-do's integrated air environment index and per capita gross regional product were gathered. Population movement data over the past five years have been used to analyze population changes in the floating population data. Regional development attractiveness depended on the data of GDP per capita, which had a large difference between the maximum and minimum values. The rate of increase or decrease in population change by city and county in Chungcheongnam-do over the past five years has changed significantly since 2021 and characteristics of each group were grouped into four groups. Based on the environment and economic feasibility of the region, it can be the starting point for a new analysis of Korea's regional development projects and the selection of target sites. Policy suggestions can also be made in spatial plans such as short-term comprehensive plans, long-term comprehensive plans, and development plans. It can be a limit of this research that regional development attractiveness was determined by the relatively large per capita gross domestic product. It is necessary to further develop regional development attractiveness by closely investigating the characteristics of the region, social problems, and emissions of environmentally harmful substances.

  • Construction industry is one of the most significant sector in national economic, but the portion of construction has been falling regularly with the regional development. In spite of decrease in economic portion, role of construction industry does not changed irrespective of development, as the foundation of development. To distinguish each state of the maturity, countries are grouped on GDP per capita, than compared with variance of GVA in construction and GFCF per GDP as level of construction industry. GVAc% and GFCF% shows corn-shaped plotting in increase of GDP per capita, and each value converge to around 20% and 5% as GDP per capita increase. The definition of maturity is consist of 4 stages; pre-developing, ascending, stabilization, and maturement. Maturity of construction industry is a term of broad sense of construction industry that is easily to figure current state of regional construction and shows what normal condition of construction is in regional economy.

  • Purpose: This study seeks to establish the environmental damage theory applicable to Kenya. The analysis is based on annual data drawn from World Bank on carbon dioxide emissions (CO2e) and gross domestic product per capita (GDPPC) for Kenya spanning 1963 to 2017. Research Methodology: The study adopts explanatory research design and autoregressive distributed lag model for analysis. Results: The results revealed a coefficient of -0.017 for GDPPC and 0.004 for GDPPC squared indicating that economic growth has negative effect on CO2e in the initial stages of growth but positive effect in the high growth regime with the marginal effect being higher in the initial growth regime. The findings suggest a U-shaped relationship consistent with Brundtland Curve Hypothesis (BCH). Conclusions: The findings emphasize the need for sustainable development path that enables present generations to meet own needs without compromising the capacity of future generations to meet their own. Sustainable development may include, investment in renewable energies like wind, solar and adoption of energy efficient technologies in production and manufacturing. The study concludes that BCH is applicable to Kenya and that developing affordable and effective mechanisms to boost sustainable development implementation is necessary to decrease the anthropogenic impact in the environment without any attendant reduction in the economic growth.

  • This paper investigates whether an inverted U relationship between pollution and economic development could be found in the Seoul metropolitan region using a panel data for the period of 1985~1999. We uses a model with a more flexible random coefficients specification which allows for a greater degree of regional heterogeneity. The emissions of sulfur dioxidetotal($SO_2$), suspended particulates(TSP), nitrogen dioxide($NO_2$), and carbon monoxide(CO) were selected as four major pollutants. We found that the emissions of these pollutants per capita except sulfur dioxidetotal exhibited inverted U shapes with per capita gross regional domestic product (GRDP). We also noted that the turning points for Seoul metropolitan region occured at a range of incomes, from $3,000 to $5,000 per capita.

  • Based on the work of Anand et al. (2013) we measure inclusive income growth, which combines growth in gross domestic product (GDP) per capita and growth in the equity of the income distribution. Extending the work of Causa et al. (2014), we estimate a dynamic simultaneous structural equations model of GDP per capita and inclusive income on panel data for 63 countries over the 1990-2013 period. We estimate both equations in error correction form by difference GMM (generalized method of moments). Among the explanatory variables of the level and the distribution of GDP per capita we include R&D (research and development) expenditure per capita. In OECD countries we obtain a large positive effect of R&D on GDP. R&D is found to have a positive effect on the social mobility index but its impact on the income equity index at first decreases, then switches around to become slightly positive in the long run. In non- OECD countries, R&D is found to decrease inclusive income, mostly through a negative growth effect but also because of a slightly increasing income inequity effect.

  • This paper analyzes the relationship between income distribution and energy consumption from a Pareto optimal approach. For this purpose, the causality relationship between electricity consumption per capita (kWh) with respect to country groups and energy consumption per capita (kg of oil equivalent) along with gross domestic product per capita was analyzed. In addition to this purpose, a Pareto analysis was conducted to determine the countries with the highest per capita national income, how much of the world total energy they consume, and whether the law of power in the energy and electricity markets exists. Finally, the impact of official development assistance provided to low-income countries by high-income countries on the low-income countries' electricity and energy consumption was analyzed. In other words, it was questioned whether pareto redistribution policies serve the purpose or not. The Engle-Granger causality approach was used in the analysis of the causality relationship between variables. Our analysis indicated that, first, the energy data of the country groups may be inadequate in revealing income inequalities. Second, the existence of Pareto law of power and global income inequality can be explained based on energy data. Finally, Pareto optimal redistribution policies to eliminate income inequality remain inadequate in practice.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to analyze the determinants of commodity trade in Korea and China and to examine the implications of China's GVC shift from export to domestic market on its impact on Korea's trade. Design/methodology - This study selected 30 major trading partner countries. The dependent variable is the trade volume, and the independent variables are general economic factors such as gross domestic product (GDP), GDP per capita, distance, and FTA. Findings - The trade pattern of Korea's commodities shows that GDP has a positive relationship with trade, import, and export. Distance has a significant negative relationship with total trade, import, and export. FTA is significant for import but it is not significant for total trade and export. The trade pattern of China's commodities shows that GDP has a significant positive relationship with total trade, import, and export. Distance has a negative relationship with trade, import, and export. GDP per capita is not significant for total trade and import, but it is significant for export. FTA is significant for total trade and export, but it is not significant for import. Originality/value - Existing papers were studied mainly in certain industrial sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, automobile industry and steel industry. This paper attempts to collects vast amounts of data about the 30 countries of Korea and China respectively and analyzes by Random Effect Model dividing the goods (0 to 9) in units of STIC (Rev. 4). The major contribution is that the decision factors affecting commodity trade can be analyzed in SITC units (0-9) to obtain analysis results that are subdivided by product group and organized by product.

  • Background: This study used bibliometric analysis of articles published about the topic of regional anesthesia from 1980-2019 with the aim of determining which countries, organizations, and authors were effective, engaged in international cooperation, and had the most cited articles and journals. Methods: All articles published from 1980-2019 included in the Web of Science database and found using the keywords regional anesthesia/anaesthesia, spinal anesthesia/anaesthesia, epidural anesthesia/anaesthesia, neuraxial anesthesia/anaesthesia, combined spinal-epidural, and peripheral nerve block in the title section had bibliometric analysis performed. Correlations between the number of publications from a country with gross domestic product (GDP), gross domestic product (at purchasing power parity) per capita (GDP PPP), and human development index (HDI) values were investigated with the Spearman correlation coefficient. The number of articles that will be published in the future was estimated with linear regression analysis. Results: Literature screening found 11,156 publications. Of these publications, 6,452 were articles. The top 4 countries producing articles were United States of America (n = 1,583), Germany (585), United Kingdom (510), and Turkey (386). There was a significant positive correlation found between the GDP, GDP PPP, and HDI markers for global countries with publication productivity (r = 0.644, P < 0.001; r = 0.623, P < 0.001, r = 0.542, P < 0.001). The most productive organizations were Harvard University and the University of Toronto. Conclusions: This comprehensive study presenting a holistic summary and evaluation of 6,452 articles about this topic may direct anesthesiologists, doctors, academics, and students interested in this topic.
