  • Magnetic separation and sulphidization-flotation for recovery of nickel and copper from two types of scraped condenser wastes, containing 8- l4% nickel and 2-4% copper, were studied. The effects of magnetic field intensities, classification, and grinding on the recovery of nickel and copper were investigated. According to the characteristics of nickel and copper in the scraps, classification-magnetic separation, different magnetic field intensities, and stages-grinding-cleaning of rough concentrate were investigated. The nickel concentrates containing 38-65% nickel with 84-97% recoveries and the copper concentrates containing 25-43% nickel with 35-60% recoveries were obtained by classification-magnetic separation. In addition, copper concentrates containing 26-45% copper with 76-88% recoveries were obtained by sulphidization-flotation from magnetic tailings and middling products.

  • Inherent dynamic interaction between flexible disk and workpiece creates partially non-flat surface profile. A flat zone was defined using minimum depth of engagement. Several key parameters were defined to explain the characteristics of the zone. Process conditions including disk rotation speed, initial depth of cut and feed speed were varied to produce product profile database. Correlation between key factors was examined to find the characteristic dependencies. Trends of key parameters were displayed and explained. Higher flat zone ratio was observed for lower depth of cut and higher disk rotation speed. Ratio of minimum depth of cut against target depth of cut increased for higher feed speed and disk rotation speed but was insensitive to the depth of cut variation. The process transition was visualized by continuously displaying instantaneous orientation of the deflected disk and the location of key parameters were clearly marked for comparison.

  • As the various manufacturing technology of optical glass is developed, the aspherical lenses are applied to many fields. However, It is still very difficult to manufacture glass lens because of the high cost and the short life of core. In recent years, the demands of the aspherical glass lenses increase since it is difficult to obtain the desirable performance in the plastic lens. In the glass mold lens, it has merits of high productivity and reproductivity since lens is manufactured by the only forming with high precision mold. The fabricating conditions for glass mold lens are glass surface that does not cause fusion, viscosity of 108-1013 poise for the $0.2{\mu}m$ accuracy, and viscoelasticity for the roughness less than 100 angstrom. In this thesis, ultra-precision grinding characteristics of tungsten carbide for forming the aspherical glass lens core were studied and the result of it is applied to manufacture the tungsten carbide-base core of the glass lens used to the laser scanning unit and the camera phone.

  • Principles of Radiation Detection and measurement include luminescence, ionization and chemical reactions. In this study, thermoluminescent properties were analyzed by exposure radiation on the glass for protective glass of smart phone. In order to analyze the thermoluminescent characteristics by radiation, 6 MV X-ray 100 cGy was irradiated to the powder annealing at 300 ℃ by grinding the tempered glass and original tempered glass. As a result of measuring the amount of thermoluminescent respectively irradiated material, the thermoluminescent increased by 3 times in the tempered glass, and when the tempered glass was grinding by powder the thermoluminescent was 2.4 times increased. Based on these results, the liquid crystal protective glass of the smart phone is evaluated as a tracer material to evaluate the radiation exposure and dose of the personal radiation monitoring.

  • During machining, since more than 50% compliance of the cutting point in machine tool structures comes from headstocks, with the remainder coming from beds, slides and structural joints, the structural analysis of the headstock is very important to improve the static and dynamic performances. Especially, in case of machining hard and brittle materials such as glasses and ceramics with the grinding machine, the reinforced headstock with the high damping material is demanded. Since the fiber reinforced composite materials have excellent properties for structures, owing to its high specific modulus, high damping and low thermal expansion, it is expected that the dynamic and thermal characteristics of the headstock will be improved if they are employed as the materials fur headstock. In this paper, the design and the manufacturing methods as well as the static and dynamic characteristics of a steel-composite hybrid headstock were investigated analytically and experimentally to improve the performance of the grinding machine system.

  • Micro drilling characteristics by EDM method was investigated. In detail, Micro tool electrode for EDM drilling was machined by use of WEDG method and micro hole was drilled using the machined tool electrode in SUS plate. The machining accuracy and time was compared in a different dielectric fluid. As a result, it was convinced that this method could be utilized as a fabrication technology of micro mold or micro 3 dimensional parts.

  • Cryo-grinding process comprising hammer mill-shattering and colloid mill-grinding without refrigerant was applied to sardine, pollack and squid muscle frozen at $-20^{\circ}C,\;-40^{\circ}C\;and\;-80^{\circ}C$, respectively and its characteristics were investigated. Particle size distribution of shattered product was shown larger in the order of squid, sardine and pollack and particle size of shattered product frozen at $-80^{\circ}C$ was shown smaller than those at $-40^{\circ}C$. Image of shattered product depended on freezing temperatures and fish species, suggesting particle size distribution of rheological properties can be dependent on fish species or freezing temperature. Yield of cryo- grinded product was in the range of $52.5\~62.5\%$ and Ca content of sardine or pollack product was $6\~8$ times higher than its fillet. Emulsion capacity of cryogrinded product was not decreased during processing. Therefore, this method is thought to be applicable to fish precessing, and preparation of fish paste or powaer.

  • Purpose: This study was to develop an effective process for fabricating biocompatible calcium phosphate powders (CPPs) using horse bones, and to investigate the characteristics of them. Methods: The characteristics of horse bone powders (HBPs) were investigated according to the different osseous tissue types (compact bone and cancellous bone), bone types (spine and tibia), pretreatment methods (cold water, $H_2O_2$, and hot water), sintering time (4, 8 and 12h), and sintering temperature (600, 900, 1100 and $1300^{\circ}C$). In addition, the grinding methods were compared based on the wet grinding (ball mill) and dry grinding (blade grinder) method to make it as powders. Finally, their cytotoxicity and cell viability were checked. Results: Regardless of the types of osseous tissues and bones, HBPs were well fabricated as biocompatible CPPs. It was also found that the pretreatment methods did not influence on the resultants, showing well-fabricated HBPs. Considering the processing time, the hot water method was the most suitable compared to other pretreatment methods. Further, 12h-sintering time was sufficient to remove residual organic compounds. The sintering temperatures greatly affected the properties of bone powders fabricated. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) peak of horse bone sintered at $600^{\circ}C$ was most closed to that of hydroxyapatite (HA). Our bioactivity study demonstrated that the HBPs fabricated by sintering horse bones at $1300^{\circ}C$ showed the best performance in terms of cell viability whereas the HBPs $1100^{\circ}C$ showed the cytotoxicity. Conclusions: Using various types of horse bone tissues, biocompatible CPPs were successfully developed. We conclude that the HBPs may have a great potential as biomaterials for various biological applications including bone tissue engineering.
