  • This paper presents a novel method for measuring the ground impedance in grounding systems. A square wave current was injected to the main grounding grid through auxiliary electrode, and the test current and ground potential rise(GPR) were measured using the band-pass filter. Ground impedance was calculated from the sinusoidal waveforms of the test current and GPR in frequency range of 20~2100Hz. Also the resistance and reactance component of ground impedance were analyzed.

  • Nuclear fuel with a big slenderness ratio is susceptible to flow-induced vibration under very severe conditions of high temperature, high flow and exposure to irradiation in nuclear reactor. The fuel assembly should, therefore, be designed to escape any resonance due to the vibration during the reactor operation, in particular, in case of the design changes. In addition, the amplitudes due to the grid vibration, the fuel rod vibration and the fuel assembly vibration should be minimized to reduce the grid-to-rod fretting wear. Fuel assembly vibration tests in air at room temperature and in water at high temperature have been performed to investigate fuel vibration behaviors. The frequency and damping during the test in air have been compared to those in water. Through the hydraulic test, the advanced assembly has been evaluated not to be susceptible to any resonance. In addition, the test data from the tests can be used to make fuel model and to evaluate grid-to-rod fretting wear.

  • 본 논문에서는 분산 환경 상에서 CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) 분석 프로그램을 편리하게 수행할 수 있도록 하는 그리드 시스템 META(Metacomputing Environment using Test-un of Application)의 설계 및 구현에 관하여 기술한다. 본 논문에서는 MPI(Message Passing Interface)로 작성된 SPMD(Single Program, Multiple Data) 구조의 병렬프로그램을 실행시키기 위한 자동 자원 선택방법을 활용하였다.

  • One disadvantage of deep cycle flooded lead-acid batteries is increasing water loss caused by use of (+) Pb-Sb / (-) Pb-Sb alloy grid. Water loss is generated by the emission of hydrogen gas from the (-) electrode during battery charging. In this paper, we maintain cycle life aspect through the development of hybrid flooded lead-acid batteries to which a (+) Pb-Sb / (-) Pb-Ca grid is applied and deal with the improvement of water loss. The amount of water loss compared to that of the (-) Pb-Sb grid decreased when Ca was added to the (-) Pb grid. For the (-) Pb-Ca grid, it was confirmed that the time to reach 0.0 V, at which water decomposition occurs, was increased compared to that of the (-) Pb-Sb grid at the NPV (Negative Potential Voltage). In the cycle life test conducted with the BCI (Battery Council International) standard, compared to the (+) Pb-Ca grid, the (+) Pb-Sb grid increased the life cycle of the batteries and the (+) Pb-Ca grid showed an early end of life due to PbO corrosion layer generation, as determined through SEM / EDS and Tear Down analysis. In conclusion, by addition of Sb to (+) Pb grid and Ca to (-) Pb grid, we developed a hybrid flooded lead-acid battery that meets user requirements to improve water loss characteristics and preserve cycle life characteristics.

  • An evaluation method of spacer grid thermal mixing performance in rod bundles is suggested based on hydraulic tests in a single phase flow. Heat transfer correlation was derived by the analogy between momentum and heat transfer. Three of major factors, such as blockage ratio of spacer grid, convective flow swirling, and turbulent intensity, were found to be significantly influential to the spacer grid thermal mixing performance. Local heat transfer near spacer grid was predicted for the hydraulic test of 6 ${\times}$ 6 rod bundles with neighboring different spacer grids.

  • A spacer grid is one of the most important structural components in a LWR nuclear fuel assembly. The primary considerations are to provide a Zircaloy spacer grid with crush strength sufficient to resist design basis loads, without significantly increasing pressure drop across the reactor core. In this study, the dynamic crush strength analysis and test are carried out for the specimens of a spacer grid assembly.

  • This paper develops a coordinated control strategy of the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) system based on repetitive control (RC) under generalized harmonic grid voltage conditions. The proposed RC strategy in the rotor side converter (RSC) is capable of ensuring smooth DFIG electromagnetic torque that will enable the possible safe functioning of the mechanical components, such as gear box and bearing. Moreover, the proposed RC strategy in the grid side converter (GSC) aims to achieve sinusoidal overall currents of the DFIG system injected into the network to guarantee satisfactory power quality. The dc-link voltage fluctuation under the proposed control target is theoretically analyzed. Influence of limited converter capacity on the controllable area has also been studied. A laboratory test platform has been constructed, and the experimental results validate the availability of the proposed RC strategy for the DFIG system under generalized harmonic grid voltage conditions.

  • In this study, fretting wear tests of nuclear fuel rods have been performed by using two kinds of spacer grid springs with a concave and a convex shape in room temperature dry and distilled water conditions. The objectives were to examine the variation of the wear mechanism with increasing fretting cycles and to evaluate the difference of the wear debris detachment behavior at each test environment. From the test results, the wear volume of each spring condition increased with increasing fretting cycles regardless of the test environments. However, the wear rate did not show a regular tendency and apparently changed with increasing fretting cycles. This is because the formation of the wear particle layer and/or the variation of the contact condition between the fuel rod and spring surfaces could affect a critical plastic deformation for detaching the wear debris. Based on the test results, the relationship between the wear behavior of each spring shape and test environment condition, and the variation of the surface characteristics are discussed in detail.
