Physically-based resampling scheme for roughness coefficient of surface runoff considering the spatial landuse distribution was suggested for the purpose of effective operational application of recent grid-based distributed rainfall runoff model. Generally grid scale(mother scale) of hydrologic modeling can be greater than the scale (child scale) of original GIS thematic digital map when the objective basin is wide or topographically simple, so the modeler uses large grid scale. The resampled roughness coefficient was estimated and compared using 3 different schemes of Predominant, Composite and Mosaic approaches and total runoff volume and peak streamflow were computed through distributed rainfall-runoff model. For quantitative assessment of biases between computational simulation and observation, runoff responses for the roughness estimated using the 3 different schemes were evaluated using MAPE(Mean Areal Percentage Error), RMSE(Root-Mean Squared Error), and COE(Coefficient of Efficiency). As a result, in the case of 500m scale Mosaic resampling for the natural and urban basin, the distribution of surface runoff roughness coefficient shows biggest difference from that of original scale but surface runoff simulation shows smallest, especially in peakflow rather than total runoff volume.
A grid based physically distributed model analyzes rainfall-runoff using physical parameters and grid-typed spatial and hydrological data. This study have developed a real time runoff modelling system using GRM RT(Grid based Rainfall-runoff Model Real Time) which is a real time flow analysis module in GRM, a grid based physically distributed rainfall-runoff model. Weather radar data received in real time are calibrated by using real time AWS from Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA), and they are applied to real time runoff modeling. And the runoff model is calibrated by using observed discharges from a water level gauge in real time. This study have designed and implemented the databases necessary to construct the real time runoff modelling system, and established the process of a real time runoff modelling. And the performances of the developed system have been evaluated. The system have been applied to Nerinheon watershed located in the upstream of Soyanggang Dam and the application results are evaluated.
This study is on the application of TOPMDEL(Topographic based hydrologic model) Which is a distributed rainfall-runoff model to the flood runoff analysis. The test area was Wichun experimental catchment site which is mountainous mid-area (Dongok, 33.63$\textrm{km}^2$ and Goro, 109,725 $\textrm{km}^2$) and being operated by the Ministry of Construction and ransporation. A three-dimensional digital elevation model(DEM) map was constructed using a physiographic map(1/25,000) and GIS software, Arc/Info, was used to the analysis of geofraphic factors. The topographic index of Dongok and Goro subcatchment was similar. As a results of the analysis, the model was validated that the simulated peak flow of a flood runoff was fit to the observed data. For the analysis of the effects of grid size, Dongok subcatchment was divided into 100,120-,240 m grid and Goro subcatchment was divided into grid and 120,200,350 m grid. It was shown that the peak flow increased in proportion to the increases of the grid size, but peak times were constant regardless of the grid size in both of the watershed.

The grid-based KIneMatic wave STOrm Runoff Model (KIMSTORM) by Kim (1998) predicts the temporal variation and spatial distribution of overland flow, subsurface flow and stream flow in a watershed. The model programmed with C++ language on Unix operating system adopts single flowpath algorithm for water balance simulation of flow at each grid element. In this study, we attempted to improve the model by converting the code into FORTRAN 90 on MS Windows operating system and named as ModKIMSTORM. The improved functions are the addition of GAML (Green-Ampt & Mein-Larson) infiltration model, control of paddy runoff rate by flow depth and Manning's roughness coefficient, addition of baseflow layer, treatment of both spatial and point rainfall data, development of the pre- and post-processor, and development of automatic model evaluation function using five evaluation criteria (Pearson's coefficient of determination, Nash and Sutcliffe model efficiency, the deviation of runoff volume, relative error of the peak runoff rate, and absolute error of the time to peak runoff). The modified model adopts Shell Sort algorithm to enhance the computational performance. Input data formats are accepted as raster and MS Excel, and model outputs viz. soil moisture, discharge, flow depth and velocity are generated as BSQ, ASCII grid, binary grid and raster formats.

In order to produce more detailed and accurate information of river discharge and freshwater discharge, global high-resolution hydrodynamic model (CaMa-Flood) is applied to an operational land surface model of global seasonal forecast system. In addition, bias correction to grid runoff for the hydrodynamic model is attempted. CaMa-Flood is a river routing model that distributes runoff forcing from a land surface model to oceans or inland seas along continentalscale rivers, which can represent flood stage and river discharge explicitly. The runoff data generated by the land surface model are bias-corrected by using composite runoff data from UNH-GRDC. The impact of bias-correction on the runoff, which is spatially resolved on 0.5° grid, has been evaluated for 1991~2010. It is shown that bias-correction increases runoff by 30% on average over all continents, which is closer to UNH-GRDC. Two experiments with coupled CaMa-Flood are carried out to produce river discharge: one using this bias correction and the other not using. It is found that the experiment adapting bias correction exhibits significant increase of both river discharge over major rivers around the world and continental freshwater discharge into oceans (40% globally), which is closer to GRDC. These preliminary results indicate that the application of CaMa-Flood as well as bias-corrected runoff to the operational global seasonal forecast system is feasible to attain information of surface water cycle from a coupled suite of atmospheric, land surface, and hydrodynamic model.

A grid-based soil moisture routing model(GRISMORM) was developed to assess the information of groundwater recharge using spatial data such as Landsat TM and digital elevation model etc.. The model predicts the hydrologic components, that is, surface runoff, subsurface runoff, baseflow and evapotranspiration at each grid elements by grid-based water balance computation.
The purpose of this study is to develop a grid based model for calculating the critical nonpoint source (NPS) pollution load (BOD, TN, TP) in Nak-dong area in South Korea. In the last two decades, NPS pollution has become a topic for research that resulted in the development of numerous modeling techniques. Watershed researchers need to be able to emphasis on the characterization of water quality, including NPS pollution loads estimates. Geographic Information System (GIS) has been designed for the assessment of NPS pollution in a watershed. It uses different data such as DEM, precipitation, stream network, discharge, and land use data sets and utilizes a grid representation of a watershed for the approximation of average annual pollution loads and concentrations. The difficulty in traditional NPS modeling is the problem of identifying sources and quantifying the loads. This research is intended to investigate the correlation of NPS pollution concentrations with land uses in a watershed by calculating Expected Mean Concentrations (EMC). This work was accomplished using a grid based modelling technique that encompasses three stages. The first step includes estimating runoff grid by means of the precipitation grid and runoff coefficient. The second step is deriving the gird based model for calculating NPS pollution loads. The last step is validating the gird based model with traditional pollution loads calculation by applying statistical t-test method. The results on real data, illustrate the merits of the grid based modelling approach. Therefore, this model investigates a method of estimating and simulating point loads along with the spatially distributed NPS pollution loads. The pollutant concentration from local runoff is supposed to be directly related to land use in the region and is not considered to vary from event to event or within areas of similar land uses. By consideration of this point, it is anticipated that a single mean estimated pollutant concentration is assigned to all land uses rather than taking into account unique concentrations for different soil types, crops, and so on.

Changes in climate have largely increased concentrated heavy rainfall, which in turn is causing enormous damages to humans and properties. Therefore, the exact relationship and the spatial variability analysis of hydrometeorological elements and characteristic factors is critical elements to reduce the uncertainty in rainfall -runoff model. In this study, radar rainfall grid resolution and grid resolution depending on the topographic factor in rainfall - runoff models were how to respond. In this study, semi-distribution of rainfall-runoff model using the model ModClark of Inje, Gangwon Naerin watershed was used as Gwangdeok RADAR data. The completed ModClark model was calibrated for use DEM of cell size of 30m, 150m, 250m, 350m was chosen for the application, and runoff simulated by the RADAR rainfall data of 500m, 1km, 2km, 5km, 10km from 14 to 17 on July, 2006. According to the resolution of each grid, in order to compare simulation results, the runoff hydrograph has been made and the runoff has also been simulated. As a result, it was highly runoff simulation if the cell size is DEM 30m~150m, RADAR rainfall 500m~2km for peak flow and runoff volume. In the statistical analysis results, if every DEM cell size are 500m and if RADAR rainfall cell size is 30m, relevance of model was higher. Result of sensitivity assessment, high index DEM give effect to result of distributed model. Recently, rainfall -runoff analysis is used lumped model to distributed model. So, this study is expected to make use of the efficiently decision criteria for configurated models.
Changes in climate have largely increased concentrated heavy rainfall, which in turn is causing enormous damages to humans and properties. Floods are one of the most deadly and damaging natural disasters known to mankind. The flood forecasting and warning system concentrates on reducing injuries, deaths, and property damage caused by floods. Therefore, the exact relationship and the spatial variability analysis of hydrometeorological elements and characteristic factors is critical elements to reduce the uncertainty in rainfall-runoff model. In this study, grid resolution depending on the topographic factor in rainfall-runoff models presents how to respond. semi-distribution of rainfall-runoff model using the model GRM simulated and calibrated rainfall-runoff in the Gamcheon and Naeseongcheon watershed. To run the GRM model, input grid data used rainfall (two event), DEM, landuse and soil. This study selected cell size of 500 m(basic), 1 km, 2 km, 5 km, 10 km and 12 km. According to the resolution of each grid, in order to compare simulation results, the runoff hydrograph has been made and the runoff has also been simulated. As a result, runoff volume and peak discharge which simulated cell size of DEM 500 m~12 km were continuously reduced. that results showed decrease tendency. However, input grid data except for DEM have not contributed increase or decrease runoff tendency. These results showed that the more increased cell size of DEM make the more decreased slope value because of the increased horizontal distance.
It needs to conceptualize watershed with triangular or rectangular elements and to analyze the changes in hydrological components of each element for distributed modeling of rainfall-runoff process. This study is the network analysis of watershed grid for flow routing occurred in each element when analyzing rainfall-runoff process by one-dimensional kinematic wave equation. Single flow direction from D8-method(deterministic eight-neighbors method) is used, and the information of flow direction and flow accumulation are used to determine the computation order of each element. The application theory of finite volume method is suggested for each flow direction pattern between elements, and it is applied it to calculate the flow of each grid. Network analysis method from this study is applied to GRM(Grid based Rainfall-runoff Model) which is physically based distributed rainfall-runoff model, and the results from simplified hypothetical watersheds are compared with $Vflo^{TM}$ to examine the reasonability of the method. It is applied to Jungrangcheon watershed in Han river for verification, and examination of the applicability to real site. The results from Jungrangcheon watershed show good agreement with measured hydrographs, and the application of the network analysis method to real site is proper.
