  • We calculated the residual current forced by buoyancy, wind stress, and tidal stress in the Chinhae Bay using a three-dimensional diagnostic model. The calculated current was also compared with the observation. The flow directs outward from the central area of the Bay in the upper layer, and also forms eddy-shape stucture in the upper and middle layers. The flow of bottom layer shows an opposite pattern compared to those of top and middle layers. The maximum speed was 6.05 em/see (September) and 3.49 cm/sec (November) in the upper layer, and 4.39 cm/sec on both month in the middle layer. The Kinetic energy of November (8.39xlO' W) was larger than that of September (1.24xlO 'W), mainly resulting from larger buoyancy effect in September. In spite of the roughness of the grid size(1 km) and wind date, the calculated flow shows eorrelation(r=0.71) with the observation. We expect that the correlation be increased by increased by adopting the fine grid and the variable coefficients of diffusion and viscosity.

  • When the sample size in a certain domain is too small to produce adequate information, small area model with random effects is usually used. Also, if we do not consider an inherent pattern which data possess, it considerably affects inference. In this paper, we mainly focus on modeling to handle increased variation of the Current Population Survey (CPS) median income as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) mean income increases. In a hierarchical Bayesian framework, most estimations are carried out through the Gibbs sampler while the grid method is used to generate parameters from non-standard form. Numerical study indicates that the performance of proposed model is better than that of CPS method in terms of four comparison measurements.

  • Various air indexing and data scheduling schemes for wireless broadcast of spatial data have been developed for energy efficient query processing. The existing schemes are not effective when the clients' data access patterns are skewed to some items. It is because the schemes are based on flat broadcast that does not take the popularity of the data items into consideration. In this paper, thus, we propose a data scheduling scheme letting the popular items appear more frequently on the channel, and grid-based distributed index for non-flat broadcast (GDIN) for window query processing. The proposed GDIN allows quick and energy efficient processing of window query, matching the clients' linear channel access pattern and letting the clients access only the queried data items. The simulation results show that the proposed GDIN significantly outperforms the existing schemes in terms of access time, tuning time, and energy efficiency.

  • Motion estimation (ME) plays an important role in digital video compression. But it limits the performance of image quality and encoding speed and is computational demanding part of the encoder. To reduce computational time and maintain the image quality, integer pel and fractional pel ME methods are proposed in this paper. The proposed method for integer pel ME uses a hierarchical search strategy. This strategy method consists of symmetrical cross-X pattern, multi square grid pattern, diamond patterns. These search patterns places search points symmetrically and evenly that can cover the overall search area not to fall into the local minimum and to reduce the computational time. The proposed method for fractional pel uses full search pattern, center biased fractional pel search pattern and the proposed search pattern. According to block sizes, the proposed method for fractional pel decides the search pattern adaptively. Experiment results show that the speedup improvement of the proposed method over Unsymmetrical cross Multi Hexagon grid Search (UMHexagonS) and Full Search (FS) can be up to around $1.2{\sim}5.2$ times faster. Compared to image quality of FS, the proposed method shows an average PSNR drop of 0.01 dB while showing an average PSNR gain of 0.02 dB in comparison to that of UMHexagonS.

  • The purpose of this study is to apply the types of urban street pattern and the shape of streets to the master plan of a religious community complexes. The street pattern is a framework of urban structure and to understand the urban structure is helpful to understand the nature of urban streets. By analysing the precedent researches, the types of street patterns are classified as a serial pattern, a branching pattern, a grid pattern and a web pattern. The street patterns are hierarchically composed and classified as a differential development and sequential development. There are boundaries and gates where the street space is differentiated to the more private level. The urban streets continue to the architectural streets such as arcades, deck streets, corridors, lobbies and halls. The purposes and results of the master plan of this religious community complexes are as follows. 1) The school area, housing area and service area are properly separated and connected. They are separated by the building masses and connected by the street space in between. 2) The street pattern of this complexes is a serial pattern where the streets are the center of each functional building groups. The entry square is divided by the symbolic building. The one branch is school street and the other is living street. These streets are combined again to the festival street. 3) The architectural streets are organically related to the urban streets. 4) Each street spaces are of adequate form according to its properties as a place. 5) There are boundaries or gates such as a gab between buildings, posts, arches and deck streets according to the relationship between streets.

  • The microgrid system is the combination of photovoltaic(PV) array, load, and battery energy storage system. The control strategies were defined as multi-modes of operation, including rest operation without use of battery, power charging, and power discharging, which enables grid connected mode or islanded mode. Photovoltaic power is a problem of the uniformity of power quality because the power generated from solar light is very sensitive to variation of insolation and duration of sunshine. As a solution to the above problem, energy storage system(ESS) is considered generally. There fore, in this study, we did basic research activities about optimization method of the amount of energy used, using a smart microgrid test-bed constructed in building. First, we analyzed the daily, monthly and period energy pattern amount of power energy used, and analyzed PV power generation level which is built on the roof. Utilizing building energy pattern analysis data, we was studied an efficient method of employing the ESS about building power consumption pattern and PV generation.

  • This study concern with the changes of street from the Choseon Dynasty to present days around Old-Boundary in Taegu, analyzing the backgrounds of change factors and development trends of the Taegu City. The basis element of a city structure is the street. Therefore, in this study, a chage of street space of a city was investigted. Historically, Taegu was a walled city and had a Mono-nucleus which was restricted by the castle, and served as a starting point of formation of spatial structuure. The form of the artery street took a "T" pattern, othe streets were formed in irregular shapes. As the city grew gradually, the castle was removed on account of diversification in traffic network, change of socio-economic organization in traffic network, change of socio-economic organization, formation of industrial bases and functional distribution. CBD of this city has been located within the area surrounded by these streets. This is a kind of general pattern of traditional walled cities through the world in both Western and Oriental societies. A s the begining of this centry, a 'Dark Ages' descended upon Korea because the country was under the Japanese-Korean Annexation, and, throughout this period, the urban planning was planned exclusively for Japanese. The street pattern within residential areas of Korea took the maze type, in contrast with Japanese residential areas which showed grid pattern of streets. This is another general pattern of almost of all colonial cities especially in Asia. High class residential areas were planned and built by Japanese, and they were located within 5-10 minutes' on-foot distance from the CBD hard core. This high prestige has continued until the 1980s when it occurred land use succession which commerical functions invaded into residential areas. Back in the colonial period, there was a between two hetrogeneous groups due to the fact that the Japanese lived mainly oriented the new railway system but that Koreans still lived along the old highway system which ran through the Korea Peninsula. Street netwook formed in the above process has maintained its shape without great changes after the liberation form the Japanese Colony. Taegu has, accordingly, developed ring-radial network system which has been a combination of radial and ring facilities. The present conditions of street patterns in Taegy mainly depend on 4 rings and 8 radius, with grid pattern street able to be found in Old Boundary.

  • We propose the new fabrication method of a 70 nm half-pitch wire grid polarizer with high performance using magnetic soft mold. The device is a form of aluminium gratings on a PET(Polyethylene phthalate) substrate whose size of $3cm{\times}3cm$ is compatible with a TFT_LCD(Tin Flat Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) panel. A magnetic soft mold with a pitch of 70 nm is fabricated using two-step replication method. As a result, we get a NWGP pattern which has 70.39 nm line width, 64.76 nm depth, 140.78 nm pitch, on substrate. The maximum and minimum transmittances of the NWGP at 800 nm are 75% and 10%, respectively. This work demonstrates a unique cost-effective solution for nanopatterning requirements in consumer electronics components.
