Purpose: This paper proposes a density adaptive grid algorithm for the k-NN regression model to reduce the computation time for large datasets without significant prediction accuracy loss. Methods: The proposed method utilizes the concept of the grid with centroid to reduce the number of reference data points so that the required computation time is much reduced. Since the grid generation process in this paper is based on quantiles of original variables, the proposed method can fully reflect the density information of the original reference data set. Results: Using five real-life datasets, the proposed k-NN regression model is compared with the original k-NN regression model. The results show that the proposed density adaptive grid-based k-NN regression model is superior to the original k-NN regression in terms of data reduction ratio and time efficiency ratio, and provides a similar prediction error if the appropriate number of grids is selected. Conclusion: The proposed density adaptive grid algorithm for the k-NN regression model is a simple and effective model which can help avoid a large loss of prediction accuracy with faster execution speed and fewer memory requirements during the testing phase.
In the present study, laboratory pull-out tests with various geogrid shapes are carried out to investigate behavior characteristics of the geogrid. Also, an interface pullout formula is proposed for predicting and interpreting pullout test result. The analytical model is based on the assumption that the reinforcement is linear elastic during the pullout test. And then, maximum pullout force, frictional resistance and active length for each of the grid density ratio are predicted based on the interface pullout formula. The predicted results were compared with those of pullout tests, and showed in general good agreements.
We have conducted on experiment with a purpose to evaluate the performance of grids being used at hospitals in Seoul and adjacent cities of Seoul. The results are as follows; Reality of the grids use 1. The focused grids were 105 and the parallel grids were 6 among 111 grids subject to experimenting. 2. The grid interspace material was aluminium of 94 and the remains were wood and bakelite. 3. The umber of Korean products from five companies was 33 and the one of the foreign products was 34 from companies. The physical properties have been examined by the notice of Department of Health and Social Affairs. 4. The intensity of secondary radiation was the highest in 5 : 1 grid ratio. 5. The Bucky factor increased with the increase of grid ratio. The selectivity, the grid improvement factor of grids also increased with increase of the grid ratio. However, with 6 : 1 grid ratio those factors were decreased exceptionally. In measurement of grid density with screen determiners and the beam alignment. 6. In evaluation the results were satifisfied within, 20%. 7. The value of the scale and the value of measurement were within the range of standard deviation, but the value of 103 lines were outranged from the standard deviation with all grid ratio except of 6 : 1 grid ratio.
A membrane module including grid was designed and introduced to MBR (membrane bio-reactor) for the purpose of better control of membrane fouling. It could be anticipated that the grid enhances the shear force of fluid-air mixture into the membrane surface by even-distributing the fluid-air to the membrane module. As MLSS concentration, packing density which is expressed in the ratio of the housing and the cross-sectional area of membrane fibers ($A_m/A_t$) and air-flow rate were changed, membrane foulings were checked by monitoring fouling resistances. The total fouling resistance ($R_c+R_f$) without grid installation (i.e., control) was $2.13{\times}10^{12}m^{-1}$, whereas it was reduced to $1.69{\times}10^{12}m^{-1}$ after the grid was installed. Regardless of the grid installation, the $R_c+R_f$ increased as the packing density increased from 0.09 to 0.28, however, the increment of resistance for the grid installation was less than that of the control. Increase in the air flow rate did not always guarantee the reduction of fouling resistance, indicating that the higher air flow rate can partially de-flocculate the activated sludge flocs, which led to severer membrane fouling. Consequently, installation of grids inside the housing have brought a beneficial effect on membrane fouling and optimum air flow rate is important to keep the membrane lowering fouling.
Multiple-count problem is occurred when rectangle objects span across several buckets. The Cumulative Density (CD) histogram is a technique which solves multiple-count problem by keeping four sub-histograms corresponding to the four points of rectangle. Although it provides exact results with constant response time, there is still a considerable issue. Since it is based on a query window which aligns with a given grid, a number of errors may be occurred when it is applied to real applications. In this paper, we proposed selectivity estimation techniques using the generalized cumulative density histogram based on two probabilistic models: (1) probabilistic model which considers the query window area ratio, (2) probabilistic model which considers intersection area between a given grid and objects. In order to evaluate the proposed methods, we experimented with real dataset and experimental results showed that the proposed technique was superior to the existing selectivity estimation techniques. The proposed techniques can be used to accurately quantify the selectivity of the spatial range query on rectangle objects.
In an experiment using chest radiography, the authors measured the scattered ray content ratio and exposed skin dose giving varieties to the object thickness, tube voltage, additional filters and gird. The result was as follows, In the 80 kV the required mAs for the density 1.8 was $10{\sim}20$ times as much as in the 140 kV, and when 10 : 1 grid was used the required mAs was $3{\sim}5$ times as much as when grid was not used. Under the same tube voltage the scattered ray content ratios were increased as the additional filter thickness became thicker. And when 10 : 1 grid was used the ratio could be decreased $2{\sim}5$ times as much as when grid was not used. Skin doses exposed to the patients were increasing as the thickness of the object became thicker, and were decreasing as filters became thicker while showing slow the decreasing effects above the 1/8 VL. And when the grid was used skin doses were increased $2{\sim}4$ times as much as when not used. In order to improve the image qualities while reducing the exposures in the chest radiography, the authors suggest followings. The additional filters up to the 1/2 VL will be suitable according to the thickness of the objects in the 80kv, while the 10 : 1 grid and additional filter of 1/8 VL will be suitable in the 140 kV.
The introduction of two-grid inside a conventional process system produces a reactive coating deposition and increases metal ion ratio in the plasma, resulting in denser and smoother films. The corrosion behaviors of TiN coatings were investigated by electrochemical methods, such as potentiodynamic polarization test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in deaerated 3.5% NaCl solution. Electrochemical tests were used to evaluate the effect of microstructure on the corrosion behavior of TiN coatings exposed to a corrosive environment. The crystal structure of the coatings was examined by X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and the microstructure of the coatings was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron spectroscopy (TEM). In the potentiodynamic polarization test and EIS measurement, the corrosion current density of TiN deposited by two grid-attached magnetron sputtering was lower than TiN deposited by conventional magnetron type and also presented higher Rct values during 240 h immersion time. It is attributed to the formation of a dense microstructure, which promotes the compactness of coatings and yields lower porosity.

We consider a Bayesian test of independence in a two-way contingency table that has some zero cells. To do this, we take a three-stage hierarchical Bayesian model under each hypothesis. For prior, we use Dirichlet density to model the marginal cell and each cell probabilities. Our method does not require complicated computation such as a Metropolis-Hastings algorithm to draw samples from each posterior density of parameters. We draw samples using a Gibbs sampler with a grid method. For complicated posterior formulas, we apply the Monte-Carlo integration and the sampling important resampling algorithm. We compare the values of the Bayes factor with the results of a chi-square test and the likelihood ratio test.
The purpose of this study is to derive the environmental factors affecting child loss through correlation analysis between child loss and pedestrian density. The status of lost children was identified through the lost child records and interviews in large parks. In addition, the behavior survey was conducted by photographing the entire outdoor of each park, and visitors was marked on the behavioral maps. Also, the pedestrian density was analyzed by GIS as 100㎡ and 1㎡ grid. As a result, child loss was related to the pedestrian density rather than the number of visitors or the area. Especially, 'Dynamic pedestrian density' and 'Ratio of pedestrian in high density to area' was related to child loss. In other words, the more dynamic behaviors such as play and movement appear, and the more the local area of high density, the higher the probability of child loss. In addition, environmental factors that induce such high density include bottlenecks, overlap of circulation due to multi-functionality of space, concentration of rides, and concentration of guardians due to visual obstacles.
In this study, it is performed numerical simulation on multi-phase flow by means of CIP-CSI2 scheme. It is applied In a two-phase free surface flow problem at a high density ratio equivalent to that of an air-water system, for examining the computational capability. The method that is being developed and improved is a CIP(Constrained Interpolation Profile) and CSL2(Conservative Semi-Lagrangian) based Cartesian Grid Method.
