  • A middleware in grid computing environment is required to support seamless on-demand services over diverse resource situations in order to meet various user requirements [1]. Since grid computing applications need situation-aware middleware services in this environment. In this paper, we propose a semantic middleware architecture to support dynamic software component reconfiguration based fault and service ontology to provide fault-tolerance in a grid computing environment. Our middleware includes autonomic management to detect faults, analyze causes of them, and plan semantically meaningful strategies to recover from the failure using pre-defined fault and service ontology trees. We implemented a referenced prototype, Web-service based Application Execution Environment(Wapee), as a proof-of-concept, and showed the efficiency in runtime recovery.

  • Efforts to respond to climate change are being made in various ways around the world, and in the energy field, continuous research and pilot projects are underway through new and renewable energy, efficient power grid management, and power grid services. Systems are in place to realize these efforts, and the systems created allow for better effectiveness. When implementing a system, systems engineering methodology helps design a more systematic system and can provide verification accuracy and uniformity through intuitive connectivity. In this paper, the original requirements of the power grid stabilization system and the architecture of the system's essential constraints are constructed as a conceptual model and the boundaries and flows between components are defined. By utilizing distributed resources such as EV(Electric Vehicle) and ESS(Energy Storage System) in the power service platform system, we plan to design and build a next-generation power service system that can participate in the power stabilization market and implement a system necessary to respond to climate change in the future.

  • This paper describes main characteristics of Grid Services based on OGSA and a service component for aggregating service data element. In order to build a Grid Service for SOA, it needs to consider a systematic approach from the high-level software architecture of a system that describes the main system components and their interactions. The purpose of this paper is to design and implement an extended service data aggregator service. To provide reliable aggregating service for service data elements, which is running under wide area environment like Internet, the aggregator service is operated asynchronously by notification mechanism.

  • The failure occurrence of resources in the grid computing is higher than in a tradition parallel computing. Since the failure of resources affects job execution fatally, fault tolerance service is essential in computational grids. And grid services are often expected to meet some minimum levels of quality of service (QoS) for desirable operation. However Globus toolkit does not provide fault tolerance service that supports fault detection service and management service and satisfies QoS requirement. Thus this paper proposes fault tolerance service to satisfy QoS requirement in computational grids. In order to provide fault tolerance service and satisfy QoS requirements, we expand the definition of failure, such as process failure, processor failure, and network failure. And we propose resource scheduling service, fault detection service and fault management service and show implement and experiment results.

  • As wireless connectivity is integrated into many handheld devices, streaming multimedia content among mobile ad-hoc peers is becoming a popular application. In this paper, we propose a dynamic service replication algorithm for providing guaranteed continuous streaming services to all nodes in mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs). First, a MANET is comprised of logical grid hierarchy, and a streaming service is replicated to a lower server region of the logical grid hierarchy by considering the link availability between a mobile node and the streaming server within a server region or the popularity of the streaming service. We evaluate analytically the performance of the proposed algorithm, and compared with that of existing Qin's algorithm. Evaluation results show that our algorithm can achieve better streaming performance than Qin's algorithm. Therefore, the proposed algorithm not only improves the sharing availability of replicated streaming services but also controls efficiently the number of streaming service replications.

  • Grid is infrastructure that connect distrubuted resources or ones in various organizations and enable user to use them as a virtual enormous resources. Traditionally, Job Management Service in Grid plays a role of job submission window and job monitoring and a important part of Grid Services with Resource Information Service and Data Transfer & Management Service. In this paper, we describe a design and implementation of Job Managment Service on TIGRIS.

  • Mobile grid system supports the integration mobile devices as grid resources. Availability of mobile resources changes dynamically in mobile grid system. Stochastic reward nets (SRN) is an extension of stochastic Petri nets and provides compact modeling facilities for system analysis. We build the SRN model to represent availability of mobile resources with disconnected operation service.

  • V2G (Vehicle to Grid) technology for an EV (Electric Vehicle) has been assumed as so promising in a near future for its useful energy resource concept but still yet to be developed around the world for specific service purposes through various R&BD projects. Basically, V2G returns power stored in vehicle at a cheaper or unused time to the grid at more expensive or highly peaked time, and is accordingly supposed to provide such roles like peak shaving or load levelling according to customer load curve, frequency regulation or ancillary reserves, and balancing power fluctuation to grid from the weather-sensitive renewable sources like wind or solar generations. However, it has recently been debated over its prominent usage as diffusing EVs and the required charging/discharging infrastructure, partially for its addition of EV ownership costs with more frequent charging/discharging events and user inconvenience with a relative long-time participation in the previously engaged V2G program. This study suggests that a Korean DR (Demand Response) service integrated V2G system especially based upon a dynamic charge/pause/discharge scheme newly proposed to ISO/IEC 15118 rev. 2 can deal with these concerns with more profitable business model, while fully making up for the additional component (ex. battery) and service costs. It also indicates that the optimum economic, environmental, and grid impacts can be simulated for this V2G-DR service particularly designed for EV aggregators (V2G service providers) by proposing a specific V2G engagement program for the mediated DR service providers and the distributed EV owners.
