광역시·도별 자료를 이용한 에너지, 경제성장, 온실가스 배출 간의 관계 분석 (Analysis of the Relationships among Energy, Economic Growth and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Using Metropolitan City/Province Level Data)

  • 본 연구는 2010~18년 동안의 우리나라 16개 광역시·도(세종시 제외)별 자료와 패널 벡터자기회귀(Panel VAR) 모형을 이용하여 에너지 소비량, 신재생에너지 생산량, 실질 지역 내 총생산, 온실가스 배출량 간의 관계를 실증분석하였다. 분석 결과, 에너지 소비 증가가 신재생에너지 생산 및 지역 내 총생산을 증가시키는 효과는 제한적인 가운데 온실가스 배출을 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 신재생에너지 생산 증가는 지역 내 총생산을 증가시킬 수 있는 반면 에너지 소비 및 온실가스 배출량 저감에는 대체로 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 이러한 분석 결과는 국가 온실가스 저감과 지역 경제성장 목표 달성을 위해서는 에너지 소비 감소와 함께 신재생에너지 보급 확대가 중요함을 보여준다.

In vitro evaluation of nano zinc oxide (nZnO) on mitigation of gaseous emissions

  • Background: Enteric methane ($CH_4$) accounts for about 70% of total $CH_4$ emissions from the ruminant animals. Researchers are exploring ways to mitigate enteric $CH_4$ emissions from ruminants. Recently, nano zinc oxide (nZnO) has shown potential in reducing $CH_4$ and hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$) production from the liquid manure under anaerobic storage conditions. Four different levels of nZnO and two types of feed were mixed with rumen fluid to investigate the efficacy of nZnO in mitigating gaseous production. Methods: All experiments with four replicates were conducted in batches in 250 mL glass bottles paired with the ANKOM$^{RF}$ wireless gas production monitoring system. Gas production was monitored continuously for 72 h at a constant temperature of $39{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ in a water bath. Headspace gas samples were collected using gas-tight syringes from the Tedlar bags connected to the glass bottles and analyzed for greenhouse gases ($CH_4$ and carbon dioxide-$CO_2$) and $H_2S$ concentrations. $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ gas concentrations were analyzed using an SRI-8610 Gas Chromatograph and $H_2S$ concentrations were measured using a Jerome 631X meter. At the same time, substrate (i.e. mixed rumen fluid+ NP treatment+ feed composite) samples were collected from the glass bottles at the beginning and at the end of an experiment for bacterial counts, and volatile fatty acids (VFAs) analysis. Results: Compared to the control treatment the $H_2S$ and GHGs concentration reduction after 72 h of the tested nZnO levels varied between 4.89 to 53.65%. Additionally, 0.47 to 22.21% microbial population reduction was observed from the applied nZnO treatments. Application of nZnO at a rate of $1000{\mu}g\;g^{-1}$ have exhibited the highest amount of concentration reductions for all three gases and microbial population. Conclusion: Results suggest that both 500 and $1000{\mu}g\;g^{-1}$ nZnO application levels have the potential to reduce GHG and $H_2S$ concentrations.

국내 음식물쓰레기 온실가스 저감을 위한 선순환체계 구축 (Development of Sustainable Food Waste Management for Reducing Greenhouse Gases Emissions in Korea)

  • 본 연구에서는 국내 음식물쓰레기 (food waste, FW) 분야에 대한 재활용 현황을 분석하고 green house gases (GHG) 배출 관리방안에 대해 고찰하였다. 연구 결과, FW의 자원 활용성을 향상시키고 GHG 배출을 부가적으로 저감시키기 위해서는 적절한 선순환체계가 필요하다는 결론을 얻었다. 효과적인 퇴비화를 위해서 우선 GW의 활용이 고려되었다. 특히 3세대 바이오매스로써의 GW (phytoplankton, periphyton, macrophyte etc.)는 퇴비화 공정에서 FW의 단점을 보완하고 질적 능력을 향상시킬 수 있는 좋은 기능성 첨가제로 판단된다. 또 하나의 접근법은 최종산물 (예: 토양개량제)을 오염물질 완충이 가능한 bio-filter로 가공하여 그린인프라에 적용하는 방안이다. 이러한 생태공학적 접근과 시도는 안정화된 재활용 산물의 기존 활용 이외에도 FW 자원화에 대한 새로운 적용처를 제시할 수 있으므로 향후 효과적인 탄소 넷제로 (Net-Zero) 시스템 구축에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

대학의 온실가스 인벤토리 구축 및 감축잠재량 평가 - 강원대학교를 중심으로 (Development of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Inventory and Evaluation of GHG Reduction Plans of Kangwon National University)

  • 본 연구에서는 강원대학교를 대상으로 대학단위 온실가스 인벤토리를 구축하였다. 2009년 강원대학교의 온실가스 배출량은 $21,054ton\;CO_2-eq$으로 나타났으며, 2005년 대비 7% 증가하였다. 간접 온실가스 배출(Scope 2)의 구매전력은 총 온실가스 배출량의 54.3%를 차지함으로써 가장 높은 기여도를 나타냈으며, 직접 온실가스 배출(Scope 1)과 기타 간접 온실가스 배출(Scope 3)은 각각 25.3%와 20.4%를 차지하였다. 또한 본 연구에서는 초기비용이 크게 요구되지 않는 감축방안 - 고효율 LED 조명으로의 교체, 하이브리드 차량 도입, 셔틀버스 운행의 활성화, 녹색 캠퍼스 실천 프로그램의 적용 - 을 선정하여, 각 방안에 따른 감축량을 추정하였다. 녹색 캠퍼스 실천프로그램을 통한 대학 구성원의 노력만으로 전체 온실가스 배출량의 5.3%를 감축할 수 있을 것으로 나타났고, 모든 감축방안을 실행하였을 때는 약 $1,570ton\;CO_2-eq\;yr^{-1}$을 감축함으로써 전체 배출량의 7.5%를 감축할 수 있다.

  • 파리 협약에 따른 post-2020에 대비하기 위한 환경영향평가(EIA : Environmental Impact Assessment) 측면에서의 온실가스 감축방안을 모색하였다. 2010~2019년 금강유역환경청의 EIA대상사업 중 26건의 환경영향평가서(EIS : Environmental Impact Statement)를 사례분석한 결과로, '온실가스 항목'은 대부분 형식적으로 작성된 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구에서는 EIA시 '온실가스 항목'의 형식적 평가를 개선하기 위한 방안으로서, 1) EIA대상사업별 온실가스 배출량에 따른 배출부과금 할당, 2) "환경오염시설의 통합관리에 관한 법률"에 근거한 '허가배출기준 설정'에 '온실가스 항목'의 추가, 3)이해당사자들이 EIA대상 개발사업의 초기단계에 참여하는 거버넌스 확립으로 온실가스 감축 등을 제안하였고, 구체적인 내용을 논의하였다.

  • Global warming has become one of the most important social responsibilities. After Kyoto protocol for greenhouse gas reduction by climatic change convention came into effect, developed countries are presenting various policies to reduce greenhouse gas that is produced in transport field. One of those policies is modal shift that change from road freight to sea, inland waterway and railway transportation that is eco-friendly. Because increase of road freight brings about road congestion and accident, logistics cost, air pollution and green house gases. Railways are superior to all other modes of transport in mass transportability, high speed, timeliness, safety and environmental-friendliness, but the railway industry has been pushed behind in competition. In developed country's government actively promoted relevant legislation, policies, and countermeasures known as modal shift policies to shift freight transport from road to large volume mode such as railway and ship. In this paper, we discuss the current situation in modal shift, compare it with cases in other countries EU and Japan, identify problems in Korea, and propose the following ways to enhance competitiveness of rail freight.

축산시설 내 온실가스(CO2) 포집 및 시설하우스 공급을 통한 온실가스 저감기술 개발 (Development of GHG Reduction Technology by Collecting Greenhouse Gas (CO2) in Livestock Facilities and Supply of Facility House)

  • Objectives: Carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) may be one of the biggest causes of climate change. The purposes of this study were to reduce greenhouse gases and to increase strawberry production by developing the supply devices in livestock facilities using the membrane technology Methods: Carbon dioxide was collected from beside to livestock facilities. The injection of $CO_2$ was stopped when it reached 1,000 ppm in the facility house. Case group with injection of $CO_2$ was compared to control group with normal environment. The experiments were conducted for 8 days from December 11, 2017. Results: Total strawberry production was found to be 1,317 kg in the case group and 1,176 kg in the control group. The correlation between $CO_2$ and crop yields has led to some statistical evidence that carbon dioxide helps to grow (${\beta}=0.832$, p<0.05). Conclusions: This study identified the potential for efforts to reduce the $CO_2$ in farming households. Increased concentrations of $CO_2$ have shown that strawberries have a better growth condition. In addition, it can be explained that the plants need wide leaves to quickly absorb much $CO_2$.

수소추출기의 부분부하 운전을 위한 PSA 제어전략에 대한 연구 (A Study on PSA Controll Strategy for Part Load Operation of a Hydrogen Generator)

  • Fuel cell systems are being supplied to households and buildings to reduce greenhouse gases. The fuel cell systems have problems of high cost and slow startup due to fuel processors. Greenhouse gas reduction of the fuel cell systems is also limited by using natural gas. The problems can be solved by using a hydrogen generator consisting of a reformer and pressure swing adsorption (PSA). However, part load operation of the hydrogen generator is required depending on the hydrogen consumption. In this paper, PSA operation strategies are investigated for part load of the hydrogen generator. Adsorption and purge time were changed in the range of part load ratio between from 0.5 to 1.0. As adsorption time increased, hydrogen recovery increased from 29.09% to 48.34% at 0.5 of part load ratio. Hydrogen recovery and hydrogen purity were also improved by increasing adsorption and purge time. However, hydrogen recovery dramatically decreased to 35.01% at 0.5 of part load ratio.

Physiological and Spectroscopic Changes of Rice by Nitrogen Fertilization Conditions

  • An appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer input during rice cultivation is essential for rice growth, quality control, and reduction of greenhouse gases in paddy fields. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a technology that can check whether an appropriate amount of fertilizer is applied in paddy fields. In this study, we tried to derive a method for diagnosing nitrogen fertilization level using spectroscopic diagnosis, physiological analysis, and molecular indicator genes. Nitrogen fertilization treatment was performed in a greenhouse by dividing into five treatment conditions: no fertilization (N0), low fertilization (N0.5), standard fertilization (N1.0), excessive fertilization (N1.5), and double fertilization (N2.0), respectively. Growth characteristics analysis was investigated by nitrogen fertilization conditions and growth stages, and the height of the canopy was analyzed using a laser scanner. Physiological and spectroscopic analyses were performed by analyzing chlorophyll and sugar contents and measuring SPAD and leaf spectrometer on rice leaves. In addition, real-time PCR experiment was performed to check the relative expression levels of several known nitrogen metabolism related genes. These results suggest that spectroscopic techniques can be helpful in diagnosing the level of nitrogen fertilization in rice paddy fields.
