  • This study analysed the center control emergency vehicle preemption[EVP] test result on the 1.782 km section around Gangbuk Fire Station. The pros and cons between center control and site control EVP was compared through the review of existing research. The test site was selected based on the higher link speed for choosing low congested area and 4 to 6 lane road. EVP operates green extension under the estimated arrival time to each intersection. This study is about EVP system field application and its evaluation by analyzing EVP operation result with the emergency vehicle's trace, GPS data. The impact on the surrounding traffic was analysed in delay from the queue length survey. Analysis showed the decrease in averge travel time 41.81%, but the increase in delay of surrounding traffic slightly. It is expected that EVP can be applied to the expanded area by researching EVP compensation scheme.

  • As recent traffic policy focuses on reduction of congestion and environmental contamination, with a catch phrase, 'Green Traffic', Low Carbon Green Growth' and 'Sustainable Development', introducing the new eco-friendly transport means including railway has been emerging as critical issue. Included in the new transport means are BRT, Bimodal Tram and LRT, and this study was intended to evaluate and analyze Bimodal, among others, which generates less emission, noise and vibration thanks to hybrid type traction system employed by Bimodal Tram, which is considered a future-oriented system because of eco-friendly features and cost efficiency as well as punctuality and convenient accessibility to bus. Thus in this study, appropriateness of Bimodal Tram comparing to other system(BRT) was suggested, using conversion traffic from the road, traffic speed and CO2 emission at the metropolitan area and large provincial areas as the barometer in evaluation, and furthermore, the measures applicable to introduction strategy that will meet various functional aspects in urban area in the coming days were developed.

  • Plasticized cellulose diacetate(CDA) was prepared by homogenizing cellulose diacetate(CDA), triacetin(TA) and epoxidized soybean oil (ESO) in a high-speed mixer, then the CDA mixture was mixed with ramie fiber to produce a green composite material. In DMA analysis, the glass transition temperature of plasticized CDA and the composite was observed at $85\;^{\circ}C\;and\;140\;^{\circ}C$, respectively. A composite reinforced with alkali treated ramie fiber exhibited significantly higher mechanical properties, such as $15\;^{\circ}C$ increase in tensile strength as well as $41\;^{\circ}C$ increase in Young's modulus when compared with commercial polypropylene. In the SEM image analysis, much enhanced adhesion between plasticized CDA and alkali treated ramie fiber (AIRa) was observed.

  • As a demand for an automobile increases, air pollution and a problem of the energy resources come to the fore in the world. Consequently, governments of every country established ordinances for green-house gas reduction and improvement of air pollution problem. Especially, as international oil price increases, engine using clean energy are being developed competitively with alternative transportation energy sources development policy as the center. Bio ethanol, one of the renewable energy produced from biomass, gained spotlight for transportation energy sources. Studies are in progress to improve fuel supply methods and combustion methods which are key features, one of the engine technologies. DI(Direct Injection), which can reduce fuel consumption rate by injecting fuel directly into the cylinder, is being studied for Green-house gas reduction and fuel economy enhancement at SI(Spark Ignition). GDI(Galoine Direct Injection) has an advantage to meet the regulations for fuel efficiency and $CO_2$ emissions. However it produces increased number of ultrafine particles, that yet received attention in the existing port-injection system, and NOX. As fuel is injected into the cylinder with high-pressure, a proper injection strategy is required by characteristics of a fuel. Especially, when alcohol type fuel is considered. In this study, we tried to get a base data bio-ethanol mixture in GDI, and combustion for optimization. We set fuel mixture rate and fuel injection pressure as parameters and took a picture with a high speed camera after gasoline-ethanol mixture fuel was injected into a constant volume combustion chamber. We figured out spraying characteristic according to parameters. Also, we determine combustion characteristics by measuring emissions and analyzing combustion.

  • Leishmaniasis is a worldwide uncontrolled parasitic disease due to the lack of effective drug and vaccine. To speed up effective drug development, we need powerful methods to rapidly assess drug effectiveness against the intracellular form of Leishmania in high throughput assays. Reporter gene technology has proven to be an excellent tool for drug screening in vitro. The effects of reporter proteins on parasite infectivity should be identified both in vitro and in vivo. In this research, we initially compared the infectivity rate of recombinant Leishmania major expressing stably enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) alone or EGFP-luciferase (EGFP-LUC) with the wild-type strain. Next, we evaluated the sensitivity of these parasites to amphotericin B (AmB) as a standard drug in 2 parasitic phases, promastigote and amastigote. This comparison was made by MTT and nitric oxide (NO) assay and by quantifying the specific signals derived from reporter genes like EGFP intensity and luciferase activity. To study the amastigote form, both B10R and THP-1 macrophage cell lines were infected in the stationary phase and were exposed to AmB at different time points. Our results clearly revealed that the 3 parasite lines had similar in vitro infectivity rates with comparable parasite-induced levels of NO following interferon-${\gamma}$/lipopolysaccharide induction. Based on our results we proposed the more reporter gene, the faster and more sensitive evaluation of the drug efficiency.

  • The objective of this research is to examine the commonness and differences of Korean, Chinese and Japanese costume colors of modern and present ages. The result of this study showed that modern China and Japan had quick influx speed of Western culture. Dissimilarly, modern Korea kept conception of colors from Chosun periods that show the high frequency of 'Five Elements Colors' and neutral colors in Red, Yellow and Purple Blue. Today, the costumes of China, Korea and Japan use similar tones of color but each country approached in different selections of achromatic colors; Korean prefers color in Yellow Red, Purple, and Chinese in Green Yellow, Green and Japanese in Purple Blue. Light greyish and pale toned Yellow Red and grayish tone have increased in modern Chinese and Japanese costumes. Also both countries have corresponding assumptions in using color of Red in strong tone. The analysis of color and tone distribution showed that, Japanese costume colors in modern and present times have correlative number of use as in Western culture. Traditionally, Japan has least notion of using 'Five Elements Colors' which only gives minor changes by convergence of Western color culture. In other side, China had developed in color rather than tone compares to Korea and Japan by using many of the Red color of strong, vivid and deep tones which made red distinguishing color of China. Japan continues to use of low chroma colors and became a characteristic in modern and present day, also they use an abundance of color in Yellow Red, purple Blue. Korea has a higher frequency showing in light, bright tones of color distinctively compares to China and Japan.

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate middle-aged drivers' driving performance and heart-rate as the behavior and physiological changes due to intersection types in left-turn situation. Background: In Korea, the drivers were aged 40~50s are most plentiful. In addition, the intersection traffic accidents are increasing every year. However, the researches for middle-aged drivers and intersection environments have been little. Method: In this study, three kinds of left-turning intersection types(T1, T2, T3) was used as the within-subject independent variables, three age groups(young, middle-aged, elderly) was used as the between-subject independent variables. Also, passing time, approaching velocity, speed and steering variations and heart-rate were used as dependent variables. Results: Overall, middle-aged drivers' driving behaviors were similar to those of the younger drivers. At the T2 intersection type, however, the approaching velocity of middle-aged drivers was similar to younger drivers, whereas the passing time of middle-aged drivers was similar to elderly drivers. Conclusion: These results could be interpreted that a transition driving behavior of middle-aged drivers in terms of age would be appeared on the T2 intersection type. Application: The results might help to understand the characteristics of driving behavior for middle-aged drivers.

  • A two-dimensional linear method has been developed for the motion and the second-order steady force arising from the hydrodynamic coupling between waves and currents in the presence of a body of arbitrary shape. Interaction between the incident wave and current in the absence of the body lies in the realm beyond our interest. A Fredholm integral equation of the second kind is employed in association with the Haskind's potential for a steadily moving source of pulsating strength located in or below the free surface. The numerical calculations at the preliminary stage showed a significant fluctuation of the hydrodynamic forces on the surface-piercing body. The problem is approximately solved by using the asymptotic Green function for $U^2{\rightarrow}0$. The original Green function, however, is applied for the fully submerged body. Numerical calculations are made for a submerged and for a half-immersed circular cylinder and extensively for the mid-ship section of a Lewis-form. Some of the results are compared with other analytical results without any available experimental data. The current has strong influence on roll motion near resonance. When the current opposes the waves, the roll response are generally negligible in the low frequency region. The current has strong influence on roll motion near resonance. When the current opposes the wave, the roll response decreases. When the current and wave come from the same direction, the roll response increases significantly, as the current speed increases. The mean drift forces and moment on the submerged body are more affected by current than those on the semi-immersed circular cylinder or on the ship-like section in the encounter frequency domain.

  • Excessive alcohol consumption can cause hangover symptoms, such as headache, drowsiness, dizziness, gastrointestinal distress, and anxiety. The aim of this study was to investigate alcohol metabolizing enzyme activities and antioxidant activities of fruit-vegetable juices containing Angelica keiskei prepared using a low speed masticating juicer in vitro. The acceleration rate of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) by A. keiskei-cherry tomato juice (ACJ) and A. keiskei-green grape juice (AGJ) were $163.8{\pm}4.3%$ and $148.2{\pm}6.9%$, respectively. The acceleration rate of aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) by ACJ and AGJ were $185.6{\pm}9.5%$ and $161.1{\pm}4.8%$, respectively. Total polyphenol of ACJ and AGJ were $111.1{\pm}1.6mg/dL$ and $100.8{\pm}2.9mg/dL$, respectively. DPPH radical scavenging activities of ACJ and AGJ were $62.0{\pm}0.5%$ and $61.3{\pm}0.4%$, respectively. Thus, these results indicate that alcohol degrading enzyme activities can be enhanced by fruitvegetable juices containing A. keiskei.

  • The classical Fourier heat conduction equation is invalid at temperatures near absolute zero or at very early times in highly transient heat transfer processes. In such situations, a hyperbolic equation model for heat conduction based on the modified Fourier law is introduced because the wave nature of heat propagation becomes dominant. The Fourier model and the hyperbolic model for heat conduction are analyzed by using the Green's function technique together with the integral transform. Analytical expressions for the heat flux and temperature distributions in a finite slab subjected to a periodic surface heating at one of its surfaces are presented and the results obtained from each model are compared with each other. The thermal wave implied b the hyperbolic model is shown to travel through a medium and to reflect back toward the origin at the other insulated surface. On the other hand, the heat by the Fourier model propagates at an infinite speed instantaneously after a thermal disturbance is felt throughout the medium.
