  • The world has been demanding a green growing world in order to solve serious environmental pollution and resource depletion. This study aims to identify life style factors that drive eco-friendly clothing practices and efficacy in middle school students. Data was collected from 215 middle school students in Daegu, using a self-administered questionnaire in December 2013. Statistical analyses to determine frequency, average, ANOVA, factor analysis, reliability analysis, and regression analysis were performed using SPSS 21 program. The results of factor analysis indicated that eco-friendly clothing practices were classified into purchasing and management, reuse, washing, and recycle, and eco-friendly clothing practices efficacy was sub-grouped into practice confidence, purchasing and management efficacy, and washing and sharing efficacy, and life style consisted of fashion pursuit, environment pursuit, planned purchasing, and economy. Eco-friendly clothing practices and efficacy were significant differences in sex and grade (p<0.05). Eco-friendly clothing practices were significantly affected by the factors of environment pursuit, planned purchasing, economy of life style, and the factors of practice confidence, purchasing and management efficacy, and washing and sharing efficacy of eco-friendly clothing practices efficacy (p<0.05). The planned purchasing factor of life style significantly affected all the factors of eco-friendly clothing practices efficacy. • Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) system improves the fuel economy of hybrid electric vehicles by using idle stop and go function, and regenerative braking system. To obtain the high performance and durability of ISG motor under continuously high load condition, the motor needs to properly design the cooling system (cooling fan and cooling structure). In this study, we suggested the enhanced design by modifying the thermal design of the ISG motor and then analyzed the improvement of the cooling performance under high-speed condition and generating mode by CFD simulation. The temperatures at the coil and the magnet of the enhanced model were decreased by about $4^{\circ}C$ and $6^{\circ}C$, respectively, compared to those of the conventional model. Therefore, we verified the cooling performance enhancement of the novel thermal design in the case of core loss increment due to the higher speed condition.

  • The main purpose of this study is to find what steps are needed for a system for CO2 emissions trading to be formulated as government policy, using System Thinking approach. First, this paper analyzed Korean newspapers to consider the social issue regarding CO2 emissions trading. There were more articles related to international issues than domestic ones before 2008. This trend, however, became reversed from January 2008, which means that consideration of CO2 emissions trading has been discussed as a domestic social issue from 2008. Second, it analyzed speeches by former president Roh Moo-Hyun and current president Lee Myung-bak. In particularly, President Lee Myung-bak declared "Low Carbon and Green Growth" as a new growth engine and a Korea's vision of the future national development. Third, it examined which government agencies, including departments and committees, are pursuing policies regarding climate change, global warming, and CO2 emissions trading. Most policy has originated in the Ministry of Environment, although policy alternatives have been proposed in other agencies including the Ministry of Knowledge Economy. The study concludes that the political consideration has played a major role in the policy agenda-setting process of the CO2 emissions trading in Korea.

  • This study aims is to explore of the theoretical concepts of regional imbalances and spatial inequality, analysis of spatial distribution of economic growth and identifying of "growth poles" for sustainable development in the regions of Kazakhstan. Based on the theoretical views, we conclude that the key direction of regional policy is the search and development of "growth poles", which will distribute their potential equally to backward regions. The authors propose the methodological tools for presenting a standard form of evaluation of spatial distribution and inequality of the regions of Kazakhstan. This study confirms the importance of using of proposed methods and its application for objectively and realistically defines "growth poles" for sustainable development. Further, the obtained results showed the distribution of Kazakhstan's regions by economic growth and specialization with using modified index of KDI. According to the results of this theoretical and empirical study proved that distribution of the regions of Kazakhstan and results of KDI indexes shows that the spatial differentiation of economic development, but its level and dynamics are different in different respects. In addition, according to the conducted survey, we conclude that one of the most important tasks is sustainable growth based on "growth poles" for sustainable development.

  • This study analyzes relevant data based on the mid-sized rental unit. It focuses on how we can set up appropriate mid-sized rental unit plan as its supply has been accelerated over time. The questionnaires used in this study cover a series of categories including site environment, unit plan, neighborhood, economy, and management. The 342 respondents are from the 3-year old apartments at Cheongju. The key findings are as follows. 1) As the average indices including number of family, life cycle, and income under the survey are different in terms of the rental unit sizes between 20 and 30 pyeongs. 2) In general, residents present comparatively high level of satisfaction in terms of residential environments. Their evaluation on the site environment unit plan, and neighborhood is around the average. In contrast, the economic and management efficiency categories are under the average. This study suggests residential guidelines should be derived from tenant differentiation policies dealing with diverse socio-demographic characteristics and satisfaction level. 3) In terms of improvement priority, residents present, higher preference on the management system and site environment. This study advises to establish an appropriate alternative to guarantee effective tenant participation. Considering the lower satisfaction level in the green space, common facilities, and resting space, this study also urges to secure quality control for desirable planning of the mid-sized rental apartments.

  • In recent years, Korean government has focused on improving the environmental impact of products in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to achieve their energy goals. The government has been conducting the following polices such as green procurement inducement and certification system. After carbon labeling was conducted in 2009, among a total of 1,065 items, 97 building materials have been given a certification: finishing materials items have the highest weight (56%). The increase in the certification numbers shows that there has been considerable technical efforts in the building material industry. At the awareness of carbon label and purchase of low carbon product, however, customers are aware of carbon labeling but the purchasing rate of carbon product is low. In this paper, we suggest that low carbon activities must also be considered in order to create client value by adding the concept of ecological efficiency. The objective of this study to measurer the eco-efficiency of carbon labeled building materials on the basis of environmental aspects of the product with the perspective of economy for purchasing the excellent products.
