Induction of Hepatic Glutathione S-transferase Activity in Mice Administered with Various Vegetable Extracts

  • The effect of various vegetables commonly consumed by Koreans on the induction of glutathione S-trasferase(GST) activity in mice was assessd. The extract of vegetable dissolved in propylene glycol (5ml/kg body wt.) was administered to ICR female mice 6 to 8 weeks old via gavage during 5 days. The changes of body weight and liver weight of all treated groups were not significantly different compared with control group. Hepatic protein contents of trated groups compared with control group were not significantly different except BHT treated group. The induction of GST activity in liver cytosol of mice was the greatest with broccoli, followed by radish, wild green onion, turnip, and green onion. The induction of GST activity in liver cytosol increased up to 1.5 to 1.8-folds at a dose of 24 g fresh vegetable/mouse. The induction of combination between vegetables was the highest with the combination of broccoli and radish (1.83-fold), followed by that of broccoli and green onion (1.72-fold), and that of broccoli and turnip (1.50-fold).

  • Amyloid$\beta(A{\beta})$ has been reported have an effect on the induction of oxidative stress that involves the functional and structural abnormalities in Alzheimer's disease. As a role of a radical scavenger, a green tea treatment was found have some inhibitory effect on the neurodegenerative process. The aim of this study was to determine if green tea catechin (GTC) reduces in transgenic model. To test this, transgenic mice carrying neuronspecific enolase (NSE) controlled C-terminus (105) of APP (APP-C105) were created and treated them with a low ana high dose of GTC for 6 months. Herein, we conclude that transgenic mice expressing NSE/APP-C105 were successfully created and the GTC-treated group exhibited significant reduction in body weight. Thus, GTC might be a good prevention of obesity or good treatment for AD patient.

녹차 및 커피 음용과 혈중 지질 성상과의 관계 (Effects of Green Tea or Coffee Consumption on Serum Lipid Profiles)

  • 본 연구는 국내의 건강한 성인 남녀를 대상으로 녹차와 커피를 섭취하는 군에서의 식이 섭취 상태를 분석하고, 녹차와 커피가 혈중 지질 농도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보기 위해 수행 되었다. 전체 대상자의 남여 비율은 56.1%, 43.9%로 비슷한 수준을 나타냈고, 전체 대상자의 연령 분포는 40대와 50대가 전체의 80% 수준을 차지했다. 남자 대상자의 대조군, 녹차섭취군, 커피섭취군은 신장, 체중, 체지방률, 허리둘레, 체질량지수에서 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았다. 여자 대상자의 세 군 비교 결과 신장, 체지방률, 허리둘레, 체질량지수는 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았고, 체중에서 커피섭취군이 대조군과 녹차섭취군에 비해 유의적으로 높게 나타났다(p<0.05). 남녀 모두 총 에너지 섭취량에는 유의적인 차이가 없었으며, 남자 대상자의 경우 지방섭취량에서 녹차섭취군과 커피섭취군이 대조군에 비해 유의적으로 높게 나타났다(p<0.05). 혈중 총 콜레스테롤 및 저밀도 지단백 콜레스테롤 농도, Atherogenic Index, Cardiac Index에서 녹차섭취군이 대조군에 비하여 낮은 값을 나타냈으나 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았다. 그러나 녹차섭취군이 커피섭취군에 비하여 유의적으로 낮은 값을 나타내었다(p<0.05). 이상과 같이 본 연구의 녹차와 커피 섭취에 따른 혈중 지질 농도의 비교 결과, 녹차의 섭취가 혈중 총 콜레스테롤 농도에 미치는 영향은 나타나지 않았으나 커피의 섭취는 혈중 지질성상 중 총 콜레스테롤과 저밀도 지단백 콜레스테롤에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

  • The application of Green's function in calculation of flow characteristics around submerged and floating bodies due to a regular wave is presented. It is assumed that the fluid is homogeneous, inviscid and incompressible, the flow is irrotational and all body motions are small. Two methods based on the boundary integral equation method (BIEM) are applied to solve associated problems. The first is a low order panel method with triangular flat patches and uniform distribution of velocity potential on each panel. The second method is a high order panel method in which the kernels of the integral equations are modified to make it nonsingular and amenable to solution by the Gaussian quadrature formula. The calculations are performed on a submerged sphere and some floating spheroids of different aspect ratios. The excellent level of agreement with the analytical solutions shows that the second method is more accurate and reliable.

나노 $BaTiO_3$ 수계슬러리에서 미세구조 및 전기적 특성에 미치는 $Ba^{2+}$이온 용출의 영향 (The Effect of $Ba^{2+}$ion Dissolution on Microstructural Changes and Electrical Properties in $BaTiO_3$ Aqueous Slurry System)

  • The effect of Ba2+ ion dissolution with different pH and amount of PAA on microstructural changes of green and sintered bodies and its electrical properties was studied in aqueous nano-size BaTiO3 slurry system. The dissolution of Ba2+ was least at strong base, pH 10.8 and by addition of amount of 0.15 wt% PAA. The green body with the lowest of dissolution of Ba2+ at pH 10.8 and 0.15 wt% PAA had minimum values of average pore size, 40nm and shown high increase of sintered density. The compact sintered at 125$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr with highest Ba2+ dissolution had low density and dielectric constant due to abnormal grian growth. However, the sintered body with the lowest Ba2+ dissolution had high sintered density and then shown high dielectric constant.

알루미나 분말의 선택적 레이저 소결을 하기 위한 새로운 무기 접착제의 개발 (Development of a New Inorganic Binder for Selective Laser Sintering of a Alumina Powder)

  • 저용융점을 가진 새로운 무기 접착제인 단사정 HBO2가 알루미나 분말의 선택적 레이저 소결을 하기 위한 접착제로서 개발되었다. 이것을 이용하여 만들어진 green body는 현재까지 알루미나 분말의 선택적 레이저 소결을 위하여 개발된 다른 무기 접착제들인 알루미늄(Ai)과 Ammonium Phosphate(NH4H2PO4)을 이용하여 제조된 것에 비교하여 훨씬 높은 굽힘 강도를 가지고 있고 또 정밀도가 우수하였다. Green Body는 후속의 열처리를 받음으로써 저밀도 단상 세라믹 AI18B4O33과 다상 세라믹 복합재료 AI2O3-AI4B2O9으로 된다. AI18B4O33과 AI4B2O9의 결정립의 모양은 휘스커 구조와 유사하였다. 재료인자와 가공변수가 이 세라믹의 기계적 및 물리적 성질에 미치는 영향이 조사되었다.

  • 저용융점을 가진 새로운 무기접착제인 단사정 HBO2가 알루미나 분말의 선택적 레이저 소결을 하기 위한 접착제로서 개발되었다. 12$0^{\circ}C$로 유지된 진공오븐 안에서 Boron Oxide 분말을 탄수시키면 단사정 HBO2가 만들어진다. 이것을 이용하여 만들어진 green body는 현재까지 알루미나 분말의 선택적 레이저 소결을 위하여 개발된 다른 무기 접착제들인 알루미늄(AI)과 Ammonium Phosphate(NH4H2PO4)을 이용하여 제조된 것에 비교하여 훨씬 높은 굽힘 강도를 가지고 있고 또 정밀도가 우수하였다. Green body를 열처리하여서 얻은 세라믹 시편도 똑같은 결과를 보여주었다. 이 이유는 단사정 HBO2가 낮은 점도를 보여주고 알루미나 분말에 대하여 좋은 젖음성을 가지고 있기 때문에 가능한 것으로 사료되어진다. 접착제로서 Boron Oxide의 양, 레이저 에너지밀도 등이 SLS에 의하여 제조되어진 복합재료의 굽힘강도에 미치는 영향이 조사되었다.

  • The motion of a floating body with multiple owe chambers in waves is studied taking account of fluctuating air pressure in the chambers. The atmospheric pressure drop in one chamber is interrelated with the drop in the other chamber. Velocity potential in the water due to the free surface oscillating pressure patches is calculated by making use of the hybrid Green integral equation. The chamber motion in the frequency domain is calculated for various values of parameters related to the atmospheric pressure drop in the multiple chambers.

Relevance of Light Spectra to Growth of the Rearing Tiger Puffer Takifugu rubripes

  • In fish, light (photoperiod, intensity and spectra) is main regulator in many physiological actions including growth. We investigate the effect of light spectra on the somatic growth and growth-related gene expression in the rearing tiger puffer. Fish was reared under different light spectra (blue, green and red) for 8 weeks. Fish body weight and total length were promoted when reared under green light condition than red light condition. Expression of somatostatins (ss1 and ss2) in brain were showed higher expression under red light condition than green light condition. The ss3 mRNA was observed only higher expression in blue light condition. Expression of growth hormone (gh) in pituitary was detected no different levels between experimental groups. However, the fish of green light condition group was showed more high weight gain and feed efficiency than other light condition groups. Our present results suggest that somatic growth of tiger puffer is induced under green light condition because of inhibiting ss mRNA expression in brain by effect of green wavelength.

Wound Healing Effect of 525 nm Green LED Irradiation on Skin Wounds of Male Sprague Dawley Rats

  • Many methods exist that promote wound healing, including light therapy, which consists of light beams that assist the human body in treating and sterilizing wounds, as well as regenerating cells. Irradiation with specific wavelengths of either laser or LED light has been shown to induce beneficial proliferation of fibroblasts that, depending on the size of the wound, can be effective in promoting wound healing. The experiments in this study utilized 8 week old 250~300 g Male Sprague Dawley Rats (ILAR Code: NTacSam:SD) and included a non-irradiation group and a 525 nm green LED irradiation group (n of each group = 7). In experiments animals were allowed to rest for 24 hours after wounds had been excised, which was followed by non- irradiation or 525 nm green LED irradiation therapy one hour per day for 9 days. Immunohistochemical staining was conducted for cytokeratin in order to precisely measure the defect size. In addition, Masson's trichrome staining was utilized in order to compare levels of collagen between the 525 nm green LED irradiation group and the non-irradiation group. Animals exposed to 525 nm green LED irradiation (p<0.05) healed at a faster rate and had increased collagenosis compared with the non-irradiated control group. Thus, treatment with 525 nm green LED irradiation had a beneficial effect on wound healing and should be considered as a possible alternative to low power laser treatment.
