Effects of Mycorrhizal and Endophytic Fungi on Plant Community: a Microcosm Study

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of foliar endophytic fungi and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on plant community structure in experimental microcosms containing an assemblage of five species of plants (Oenothera odorata, Plantago asiatica, Trifolium repens, Isodon japonicas and Aster yomena). Leaves of Sasa borealis, Potentilia fragarioides, and Viola mandshurica were collected in Chungbuk, Korea. Endophytic fungi were isolated from the surface sterilized leaves and identified to species level using molecular and morphological techniques. Four isolates of the endophytic fungi were inoculated to the leaves of host plants in the microcosms. Also, three species of AMF spores were extracted from pure cultures and the mixture of the three species inoculated to the roots of the plants. After four months of growth in a green house, effects of both symbiotic fungi on plant species diversity, community composition and productivity were examined. The plant species diversity showed significant differences with inoculation of the symbiotic fungi. Results indicate that AMF significantly affect plant productivity and plant community structure.

유채 잔유물의 녹비 이용에 따른 벼 생육특성 및 잡초발생 억제효과 (Effects of Rape Residue as Green Manure on Rice Growth and Weed Suppression)

  • 수확기 벼의 간장은 모든 처리구에서 비슷하게 생육하였으나 수장은 녹비환원구의 70% 시비구(17.5 cm)에서 관행재배구(16.4 cm)보다 촉진시켰다. 수확기 벼의 지상부 잎과 줄기의 생체중은 유채 잔유물 녹비환원구의 30% 시비구에서 관행재배구와 비슷한 수준이었다. 벼의 건물중에서도 생체중과 비슷하였으며, 녹비환원구의 70% 시비구에서는 이삭중을 19% 증가시켰다. 또한 유채 잔유물의 환원에 따른 벼의 주당수수와 1수영화수는 관행재배구에 비해 녹비환원구의 70% 시비구에서 비슷하거나 오히려 증가하였다. 한편 벼의 등숙율은 관행재배구의 91%와 비교하여 유채 잔유물 환원구에서 낮아지는 것(79-85%)으로 나타났으나, 정조수량은 유채 잔유물 환원구의 70% 시비구에서 496.4 g/pot으로 가장 높았다. 각 처리구별 벼의 수량으로부터 산출한 수량지수는 녹비환원구의 70% 시비구에서 125.4로 관행재배구보다 수량이 증가하였다. 잡초발생량은 관행재배구에서 37본으로 가장 많았으며, 유채 잔유물 환원구에서는 11.7-15.7본으로 관행재배구보다 현저히 감소시켰다. 잡초의 건물중은 관행재배구의 25.1 g/pot에 비해 유채 잔유물 환원구의 시비량이 많은 처리구부터 각각 11.8, 12.2 및 6.0 g/pot으로 현저히 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다.

연작장해 경감을 위한 시설 고추의 왕겨 혼합 소토양 재배기술 (Green Pepper Cultivation in Mixture Bed of Soil and Rice Hull for Alleviation of Salinity Problems in Plastic Film House)

  • 수년간 고추를 연작한 비닐하우스에서는 연작 또는 염류집적에 따른 수량감소가 현저하게 나타난다. 고추의 수량감소를 줄이면서 설치한 비닐하우스의 사용연한을 연장시킬 수 있는 수단으로 기존 토양에 왕겨를 혼합한 소토양관비재배의 가능성을 검토하였다. 소토양관비재배 시험구에서는 관행재배 시험구에 비하여 토양 EC가 $4dS\;m^{-1}$ 이하로 낮아졌으며 두 재배방법 사이에 지상부 생육의 차이는 크지 않았으나 뿌리의 발달은 소토양관비재배 시험구에서 현저히 좋았다. 특히 소토양관비재배 시험구에서는 잔뿌리의 발달이 많았으며 관행재배 시험구에서는 뿌리 양이 적을 뿐만 아니라 굵은 뿌리가 많이 발생되었다. 풋고추 수량은 소토양관비재배 시험구에서 43% 정도 증가되었는데, 이는 소토양관비재배 시험구에서의 양호한 뿌리 발달이 양분흡수에 기여하였고 결과적으로 수량 증대로 이어진 것으로 판단된다. 본 논문은 초기 단계의 연구결과이며, 소토양관비재배방법이 연작 토양 시설물의 이용효율을 극대화할 수 있는 방법의 하나로 그 가능성을 제시하였을 뿐이다. 소토양관비재배방법의 실용화를 위해서는 보다 구체적인 연구가 더 진행되어야 할 것이다.

Soil Characteristics of Newly Reclaimed Tidal Land and Its Changes by Cultivation of Green Manure Crops

  • This study was conducted to investigate the soil characteristics of newly reclaimed tidal land and the effect of green manure crops on soil properties. Summer green manure crops such as sesbania (Sesbania grandiflora), barnyard grass (Echinochloa spp.) and sorghum${\times}$sudangrass hybrid (Sorghum bicolor L.) were cultivated at Hwaong, Ewon, Saemangeum and Yongsangang area. Soil pH of reclaimed tidal land was relatively high, but organic matter and available phosphorus contents were lower compared to the optimum range for common upland crops. Soil nutrient contents were unbalanced for upland crop growth. Yield of green manure crops had a wide spatial variation. Nitrogen content in green manure crops was the greater in Sesbania and it was estimated that major nutrient ($N-P_2O_5-K_2O$) supply amount were 150-40-370, 220-50-170 and 140-50-250 $kg\;ha^{-1}$ from sorghum${\times}$sudangrass hybrid, sesbania and barnyard grass, respectively. Based on these results, desalination is required to grow the upland crops at newly reclaimed tidal lands and management practices are necessary to reduce the salt damage by resalinization during the growing seasons. To improve the productivity and increase the nutrient utilization rate, soil physicochemical properties need to be improved to the level for upland crops by application of organic matter and fertilizer.

모바일 기반 스마트 온실 시스템 설계 및 구현 (A Design and Implementation of Mobile based Smart Green House System)

  • 본 논문에서는 원거리에서 온실 상황 파악과 온실을 제어 할 수 있는 모바일 기반 스마트 온실 시스템을 구현하였다. 기존의 웹을 이용한 온실 시스템은 실시간으로 제어가 가능하지만, 사용 장소에 제한적이라는 단점이 있었다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 모바일 기기를 이용한 스마트 온실 시스템의 유용성을 강조하였다. 원거리에서 모바일기기(스마트폰 - 안드로이드 기반)에 설치되는 소프트웨어를 이용하여 온실의 상황을 파악하고 장비들을 제어함으로써 편의성과 생산성을 높였다.

Integrated Management of the Pink Mealybug, Maconellicoccus hirsutus (Green) (Hemiptera : Pseudococcidae) Causing ′Tukra′in Mulberry

  • In India, mulberry (Morus spp.), the sole food plant of the silkworm, Bombyx mori (Linn.), is prone to infestation by the pink mealybug, Maconellicoccus hirsutus (Green). Infestation by this pest causes apical shoot malformation, popularly known as 'tukra'. Occurrence of tukra causes an appreciable reduction in leaf yield and quality, leading to low silkworm cocoon productivity. For management of M. hirsutus (Tukra), an IPM package comprising mechanical, chemical and biological measures was demonstrated in the mulberry gardens of five Government Silk Farms in Mysore District (Karnataka, India) during 1995-96. A suppression of 76.0% in tukra incidence and 90.19% in mealybug population was recorded by employ the IPM package which led to an estimated 4,000 kg recovery in leaf yield/ha/year. The impact of IPM package in the management of M. hirsutus, the role of biocontrol agent (Cryptolaemus montrouzieri Muls.) in pest suppression and the cost-benefit analysis of the IPM package are discussed.

  • A ceramic vacuum chamber feedthrough ceramic insulator is made of Al2O3; the manufacturing process involves filling alumina powder into a urethane mold and pressing it with a rubber press to produce a molded body. Thereafter, manufacturing is completed through primary shape processing, sintering, and secondary shape processing in the green body, which is a pressurized molding body, This work is intended to prevent defects in the first shape processing by improving the ceramic insulator in the green body, and to improve the productivity of the ceramic insulator by determining the optimal processing conditions.

  • Salt accumulation in agricultural soils reduces the growth and productivity of crops. Although scientists have been studied the impacts of salinity on plants, the physiological mechanism of adaptation to salinity has not been well understood. 산 가수분해와 발효에 의한 해조류로부터 에탄올 생산 (Ethanol Production From Seaweeds by Acid-Hydolysis and Fermentation)

  • In order to study the utilization of seaweeds as an alternative renewable feedstock for bioethanol production, their properties of hydrolysis and fermentation were investigated. The seaweeds were well hydrolyzed with diluted sulfuric acid. The weight loss of seaweeds reached 75-90%, but only 12-51% of them was converted into reducing sugars after the acid-hydrolysis at $130^{\circ}C$ for 4-6h. The yield of reducing sugars increased with increasing the hydrolysis time up to 4h and then decreased thereafter. In contrast, the ethanol yield from the hydrolysates increased with hydrolysis time except for green seaweeds maximizing at 4h. Optimal fermentation time by Saccharomyces cerevisiae (ATCC 24858) varied with seaweeds; 48h for green seaweeds, 96h for brown and red seaweeds. The ethanol yield from the hydrolysate reached 138${\pm}$37mg/g-dry for green seaweeds, 258${\pm}$29mg/g-dry for brown seaweeds, and 343${\pm}$53mg/g-dry for red seaweeds, which correspond to approximately 1.5-4.0 times more than the theoretical yield from total reducing sugars in the hydrolysates. The results obtained indicate clearly that the non-reducing sugars or oligosaccharides dissolved in the hydrolysate played an important role in producing bioethanol. Considering the productivity and production cost of each seaweed, brown seaweeds such as Laminaria japonica and Undaria pinnatifida seem to be a promissing feedstock for bioethanol production.
