Effects of Co-current and Cross Flows on Circular Enhanced Gravity Plate Separator Efficiencies

  • This study compares the effects of flow on oil and suspended solids removal efficiencies in circular enhanced gravity plate separator equipped with coalescence medium. Coalescence medium acts to capture rising oil droplets and settling solid particles and assist in the coalescence of oil and coagulation of solid. The circular separator uses an upflow center-feed perforated-pipe distributor as the inlet. The co-current flow is achieved using 4 increasing sizes of frustum, whereas cross flow uses inclined coalescence plates running along the radius of the separator. The different arrangement gave the cross flow separator a higher coalescence plan area per operational volume, minimal and constant travelling distance for the oil droplets and particles, lower retention time, and higher operational flowrate. The cross flow separator exhibited 6.04% and 13.16% higher oil and total suspended solids removal efficiencies as compared to co-current flow.

  • 광물찌꺼기에는 다양한 종류의 중금속이 함유되어 있어, 국내외에서 광물찌꺼기로부터 중금속을 제거하기 위해 많은 연구가 이루어졌으나, 중금속을 제거하기에는 여러 가지 문제점과 제약이 따르기 때문에 한계가 있었다. 따라서 이를 해결하고자 본 연구에서는 미립자의 선별까지도 가능한 다중비중선별기(Multi-gravity separator, MGS)를 사용하여 광물찌꺼기에 함유된 비소를 제거하기 위한 비중선별실험을 수행하였다. MGS를 이용하여 비중선별에 의해 비중이 높은 비소를 함유한 광물을 제거하고자 경사각, 세척수량, 광액농도, 드럼의 회전속도, 급광량에 따른 영향을 확인하였다. 실험결과 최적실험 조건인 MGS의 경사각 $3^{\circ}$, 세척수량 5 l/min., 광액농도 30%, 드럼 회전속도 208 rpm, 그리고 급광량 265.24 g/min. 에서 As 제거율과 산출율이 각각 88.21%와 92.25%인 결과를 얻었다.

선박 유수분리기 전처리 장치 성능에 미치는 적층판의 영향 (An Effect of Laminated Plate on the Performance of Pre-separator for Marine Oily Water Separator)

  • It's a tendency to strengthen related international laws as the importance on marine oil pollution recently becomes the issue. According to the regulation of IMO, oil discharge from ships is allowed under 15 ppm only and oil filtering equipment is essential. However, for large ships using heavy fuel oil of over S.G 0.98 and viscosity 380 cSt and system oil, it has been in difficulty to process with existing filtering type of oily water separator. Oily water pre-separator of laminated plate type which is one of gravity type separator has very simple structure and it also makes easier to maintain and repair. In another words, it fits well to process large amount of rich oil with high specific gravity. In this paper, oily water pre-separator of laminated plate type has been studied. The function of emulsified oil and 4 different types of oil have been analyzed and each character has been investigated and proved by experiments. As the result of it, the efficiency of separating oil water has been advanced by 10% in case equipped with pre-separator. In addition, the higher temperature is and the more laminated plate has, it turns out to be getting more effect.

In-line형 세퍼레이터의 기-액 다상유동 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Gas-liquid Multiphase Flow Characteristics of the In-line Type Separator)

  • The subsea separator of an offshore plant for offshore oil and gas development performs the process of separating oil and gas from crude oil produced in the subsea. The oil-gas subsea separator can be divided into a gravity type that separates fluids by gravity and an in-line type that separates fluids using centrifugal force of density. In the case of the deep sea, the development of a small in-line type separator is required due to manufacturing cost and safety problems caused by water pressure. Therefore, in this study, the gas-liquid phase separation efficiency of the subsea separator was identified through the study of the multiphase flow characteristics of the in-line type separator. For the optimal design of the in-line type separator, the shape of the internal swirl element(ISE) was selected first, and the separation efficiency results for each section of the in-line type separator were analyzed. This study was conducted in parallel with experiments and numerical analysis, and it is expected that the reliability and efficiency of the in-line type separator will be improved through the results.

Oily water separator of laminated plate type which is one of gravity type separator can be use as assistant equipment for the oil filtering system to meet the present IMO standard, because it fits well to process large amount of rich oil with high specific gravity. The purpose of this paper is to investigate an efficiency of oil/water separation with the characteristics of laminated plate arrangement. The analyse of oil contents for oil-water mixture were carried out in order to find an efficiency of oil/water separation and an experimental study was simultaneously carried out to investigate internal flow characteristics of separator by visualization method and PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) measurement at three spaces of plates for 5, 10 and 15 mm with variation of inlet flow rates of $0.25m^3$/h and $0.5m^3$/h. The experimental results showed that the space of the plates acts a significant role in the separating process.

This work is focused on the fundamental investigation of the performance of the plate type oily water separator by visualization method and PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) measurement to acquire multi-point velocity data simultaneously. The experimental results showed that the space of the plates acts a significant role in separating process and it was found that an important point to minimize a vortex flow is to flow a large amount of fluid in space of the plates in order to promote the efficiency of separation.

  • The oil trap in oil separator is one of the most important characteristics for normal operation of compressor. In this study, oil separation characteristics has been investigated for $CO_2$/PAG mixture using a gravity type of oil separator. The experimental study has been carried out in the range of oil concentration 0 to 5 weight-percent and the mixture temperature range of $0^{\circ}C$ to $15^{\circ}C$. The results obtained indicate that oil separation ratio in oil separator is increased with an increase in the oil concentration and mixture temperature.

  • The oil separation in an oil separator is one of the most important characteristics for proper compressor operation. In this study, a gravity type of oil separator is used. Oil separation characteristics has been investigated for $CO_2$/PAG mixture in the range of oil concentration 0 to 5 weight-percent and the mixture temperature range of $5^{\circ}C$ to $15^{\circ}C$ and $70^{\circ}C$ to $90^{\circ}C$. The results obtained indicate that the oil separation is increased with an increase in the oil concentration. It is also found that the oil separation in liquid state is increased with an increase in the mixture temperature while the oil separation in gas state is decreased.

  • Lubricant oil is needed in air conditioning and refrigeration system because the compressor requires oil to prevent surface to surface contact between its moving parts, to remove heat, to provide sealing, to keep out contaminants, to prevent corrosion, and to dispose of debris created by wear. Thus, the oil separation in an oil separator is one of the most important characteristics for proper compressor operation. In this study, a gravity type of oil separator is used. Oil separation characteristics have been investigated for $CO_2$/PAG mixture in the range of oil concentration 0 to 5 weight-percent and the mixture temperature range of $0^{\circ}C$ to $15^{\circ}C$ at 50 bar and $70^{\circ}C$ to $90^{\circ}C$ at 80 bar. The results obtained indicate that the oil separation is increased with an increase in the oil concentration. It is also found that the oil separation in liquid state is increased with an increase in the mixture temperature while the oil separation in gas state is decreased.

  • 본 논문에서는 서로 다른 밀도의 유체 내 바이오 물질이 받는 중력과 부력 차를 이용한 연속적 세포 분리기를 제안하였다. 종래의 크기별 세포분리는 서로 다른 크기의 동일한 밀도를 가지는 세포를 분리하는데 한계가 있다. 반면, 본 논문에서 제안하는 세포 분리기는 미소유로 상하부에 밀도가 다른 다층 유체층 내에서 세포가 받는 중력과 부력 차이로 크기는 다르지만 동일한 밀도를 가지는 세포를 효율적으로 분리할 수 있다. 밀도가 다른 유체층(PBS, 밀도=1.0g/ml, Ficoll, 밀도=1.1g/ml) 내에서 전혈로부터 백혈구(직경=$6-10{\mu}m$, 밀도=1.06~1.1g/ml), 적혈구(직경=$4-6{\mu}m$, 밀도=1.09~1.2g/ml)를 밀도에 따라 분리한 효율이 각각 $90.9{\pm}9.1%$$86.4{\pm}1.99%$로 측정되었다 따라서, 본 세포 분리기는 크기 편차가 있는 동일 밀도의 세포를 크기에 둔감하고 밀도에만 민감한 분리가 가능하다.
