A Dual Modeling Method for a Real-Time Palpation Simulator

  • This paper presents a dual modeling method that simulates the graphic and haptic behavior of a volumetric deformable object and conveys the behavior to a human operator. Although conventional modeling methods (a mass-spring model and a finite element method) are suitable for the real-time computation of an object's deformation, it is not easy to compute the haptic behavior of a volumetric deformable object with the conventional modeling method in real-time (within a 1kHz) due to a computational burden. Previously, we proposed a fast volume haptic rendering method based on the S-chain model that can compute the deformation of a volumetric non-rigid object and its haptic feedback in real-time. When the S-chain model represents the object, the haptic feeling is realistic, whereas the graphical results of the deformed shape look linear. In order to improve the graphic and haptic behavior at the same time, we propose a dual modeling framework in which a volumetric haptic model and a surface graphical model coexist. In order to inspect the graphic and haptic behavior of objects represented by the proposed dual model, experiments are conducted with volumetric objects consisting of about 20,000 nodes at a haptic update rate of 1000Hz and a graphic update rate of 30Hz. We also conduct human factor studies to show that the haptic and graphic behavior from our model is realistic. Our experiments verify that our model provides a realistic haptic and graphic feeling to users in real-time.

  • Purpose of this thesis is to find out the relationship among the amount of change and the visual cognition, and the visual preference which people like and can feel. Through the investigation of relationships between the amount of change, which indicates the degree of visual variation and the visual preference, the amount of change and the visual cognition, and the visual preference and the visual cognition, basic design data will be supplied, which can satisfy users' desire as much as possible in the most economic way. In order to investigate the relationship between the visually produced the amount of change and preferences, graphic simulation, in which variables other than the visual change are controlled, has been proceeded. Graphic factors of the visual change in the cyber exterior space are determined on the point of location (base plane, vertical plane, overhead plane), shape, size and color. As for the relationship between the amount of change and the preference, only the size is effective. since preferences on the location, shape and color are individual preferences, no common trend can be found. Therefore, we cannot say that which shape or color is better, Since the location, shape and color are qualitative change and the size is the quantitative change, the size can be the measurable change quantity. The relationship between the amount of change of size and the degree of preference is found to be inverse U-shape, i.e., as the amount of change of size increases the degree of preference first increases and, after a certain level, decreases. The same result has been obtained in photo simulation.

Development of the Maintenance Process Based on Graphic Simulation for the Parts of the Equipment at the outside of the MSM′s Workspace in a Hot Cell (그래픽 전산모사를 이용한 핫셀 사각지역 내 장치부품 유지보수공정 개발)

  • In this study, the maintenance process by the servo manipulator has been developed for the parts of the equipment, which we unable to reach out by the Master-Slave Manipulator(MSM) in a hot cell. To do this, a virtual mock-up is implemented using the iか prototyping technology. Using this mock-up, the workspace of the manipulators in the hot cell and the operator's view through the wall-mounted lead glass have been analyzed. In addition, the path planning of the servo manipulator using the collision detection function of the virtual mock-up has been established. From these, the maintenance process for the parts of the equipment, which are located at the outside of the MSM's workspace using the servo manipulator has been proposed and verified through the graphic simulation. It is revealed that the proposed remote maintenance process of the equipment can effectively be used in the real hot cell operation. It is also believed that the implemented virtual mock-up of the hot cell can effectively be applied in analyzing the various hot cell operation and enhancing the reliability and safety in a hot cell remote handling for the spent fuel management.

  • A Fuzzy Logic Controller(FLC) was developed for the autonomous operation of speedsprayer in an orchard. The autonomous operation with the FLC was graphically simulated under the real condition of the orchard. Image processing was used to find out the direction of running and four ultrasonic sensors were used to detect obstacles for the running. The simulation results showed that the speedsprayer could be operated autonomously with the FLC combined with the image processing and the ultrasonic sensors.

  • 본 연구는 사용자 인터페이스를 고려한 시뮬레이션 방법을 이용한 단거리 미사일시스템의 성능 평가모델의 연구이다. 주요 접근 방법으로 먼저 시스템성능산정을 위한 시뮬레이션 방법을 제시하였으며 이는 관련 Data를 수집하고 이로부터 미사일의 폭발지점을 산정하고 표적의 피해산출을 위한 방법과 종합표적살상확률을 산정하는 방법 등을 포함하였다. 다음 단계로 사용자를 위한 그래픽 사용자 인터페이스(Graphic User Interface)를 고려한 입출력과정을 시각화환경으로 구현하였다. 본 연구를 위하여 전산프로그램을 개발하고 가상 Data를 이용한 예를 들고 결과를 보였다.

  • This paper traces the expanding role of simulation from its early beginning on mainframe computers to the $21^{st}$ Century's enterprise manufacturing environment of remote access and control. It includes an examination of the current and future role of integrated graphic animation as a primary medium of technical communications. The paper concludes with an example application of distance learning in the design, analysis, and operation of Programmable Logic Controllers on the Factory Floor of the future.

Development of PC-based Simulation System for Metal Forming (PC기반 소성가공공정 성형해석 시스템 개발)

  • It is well known that the quality and efficiency of the design of metal forming processes can be significantly improved with the aid of effective numerical simulations. In the present study, a two-and three-dimensional finite element simulation system, CAMP form, was developed for the analysis of metal forming processes in the PC environment. It is composed of a solver based on the thermo-rigid-viscoplastic approach and graphic user interface (GUI) based pre-and post-processors to be used for the effective description of forming conditions and graphic display of simulation results, respectively. In particular, in the case of CAMPform 2D (two-dimensional), as the solver contains an automatic remeshing module which determines the deformation step when remeshing is required and reconstructs the new mesh system, it is possible to carry out simulations automatically without any user intervention. Also, the forming analysis considers ductile fracture of the workpiece and wear of dies for better usage of the system. In the case of CAMPform 3D, general three-dimensional problems that involve complex die geometries and require remeshing can be analyzed, but full automation of simulations has yet to be achieved. In this paper, the overall structure and computational background of CAMPform will be briefly explained and analysis results of several forming processes will be shown. From the current results, it is construed that CAMPform can be used in providing useful information to assist the design of forming processes.

  • Yhis paper describes a fault diagnosis simulation of the Real-Time Multiple Fault Dignosis System (RTMFDS) for forcasting faults in a system and deciding current machine state from signal information. Comparing with other diagnosis system for single fault,the system developed deals with multiple fault diagnosis,comprising two main parts. One is a remotesignal generating and transimission terminal and the other is a host system for fault diagnosis. Signal generator generate the random fault signal and the image information, and send this information to host. Host consists of various modules and agents such as Signal Processing Module(SPM) for sinal preprocessing, Performence Monotoring Module(PMM) for subsystem performance monitoring, Trigger Module(TM) for multi-triggering subsystem fault diagnosis, Subsystem Fault Diagnosis Agent(SFDA) for receiving trigger signal, formulating subsystem fault D\ulcornerB and initiating diagnosis, Fault Diagnosis Module(FDM) for simulating component fault with Hierarchical Artificial Neural Network (HANN), numerical models and Hofield network,Result Agent(RA) for receiving simulation result and sending to Treatment solver and Graphic Agent(GA). Each agent represents a separate process in UNIX operating system, information exchange and cooperation between agents was doen by IPC(Inter Process Communication : message queue, semaphore, signal, pipe). Numerical models are used to deseribe structure, function and behavior of total system, subsystems and their components. Hierarchical data structure for diagnosing the fault system is implemented by HANN. Signal generation and transmittion was performed on PC. As a host, SUN workstation with X-Windows(Motif)is used for graphic representation.

System Level Network Simulation of Adaptive Array with Dynamic Handoff and Power Control (동적 핸드오프와 전력제어를 고려한 적응배열 시스템의 네트워크 시뮬레이션)

  • In this study, the system level network simulation is considered with adaptive array antenna in CDMA mobile communication system. A network simulation framework is implemented based on IS-95A/B system to consider dynamic handoff, system level network behavior, and deploying strategy into the overall CDMA mobile communication network under adaptive array algorithm. Its simulation model, such as vector channel model, adaptive beam forming antenna model, handoff model, and power control model, are described in detail with simulation block. In order to maximize SINR of received signal at antenna, Maximin algorithm is particularly considered, and it is computed at each simulation snap shot with SINR based power control and handoff algorithm. Graphic user interface in this system level network simulator is also implemented to define the simulation environments and to represent simulation results on real mapping system. This paper also shows some features of simulation framework and simulation results.
