  • A trial product of monogranular compound fertilizer for sesame under vinyle mulching cultivations was manufactured using the principal sources of urea, diammonium phosphate and muriate of potash in combination with a filler of zeolite and a binder of liquid waste from glutamic acid fermentation. Two field experiments using transparent vinyl mulching for single-crop cultivation and black vinyl mulching for cultivation after wheat and barley cropping were carried out to evalute their effects on sesame and the results obtained were as follows. Plant height and stem diameter of the trial product in sesame plant were higher and better than those of NPK split application and NPK all basic application. As the yield of the trial product was higher and similar to the NPK application plots in transparent and black vinyl mulching treatment respectively, the one time basic application of a developed monogranular compound fertilizer for sesame was possible under vinyl mulching cultivation.

  • A field experiment was conducted to evaluate effect of water soluble silicate fertilizer (WSS) application on rice plants with respect to comparing with powdery slag-originated silicate fertilizer (PSS) and granular one (GSS). The 30-day seedlings were transplanted on May 10, 2012. The plot size was $25m^2$, and the planting density was 15 hills $m^{-2}$. The standard application level was $2kg\;ha^{-1}$ for WSS, $200kg\;ha^{-1}$ for GSS, $200kg\;ha^{-1}$ for GSS. The application rates were 50 %, 100 %, and 200 % of the standard levels. The soil and plant samples were taken after harvest on September 10. Strength weight of the stem was measured on the center of the 5-cm of the fourth internode. Nutrient contents and yield of grains and were evaluated. The strength weight of the stem was positively correlated with the silicate content of the stem with the highly significant $R^2$ of 0.601. The strength of the stem was satisfactorily enforced by application of 50 % WSS and GSS, and 100 % PSS. Application of 50 % or 100 % of WSS showed little difference in rice yield in comparison with application of 100 % of PSS or GSS. Therefore, application of $20kg\;ha^{-1}$ of WSS would be recommendable for rice cultivation which enforced stem strength, and increased yield of rice.

  • This study was carried out to granulate artificial zeolite powder that remove ammonium nitrogen and phosphorous simultaneously in wastewater treatment. Optimum water content was required for 30 percent volume to granulate artificial zeolite with 1.7mm diameter and 1~2cm length using granulator. Portland cement could remove much $NH_4{^+}$ and $PO_4{^{3-}}$ from the wastewater than other binding materials. Mixed 33, 25. 20. 16 percent of portland cement to artificial zeolite powder(v/v), cation exchange capacity of the granulars were 66.5, 81.4, 126.8, $151.2cmol^+kg^{-1}$ and hardness of that were 176.1, 24.4, 4.1, $0.4kg\;cm^{-2}$, respectively. Content of portland cement in the granular were related with removal of $PO_4{^{3-}}$ positively and that of $NH_4{^+}$ negatively. Shaked 1g of the granulars that made of portland cement 33 percent with 40ml synthetic wastewater containing $NH_4{^+}$ $1545mgl^{-1}$ and $PO_4{^{3-}}$ $417mgl^{-1}$, 99.4 percent of $NH_4{^+}$ and 90.3 percent of $PO_4{^{3-}}$ were removed simultaneously after 48 hours shaking. The longer shaking, the more $NH_4{^+}$ and $PO_4{^{3-}}$were removed. The artificial zeolite granular had both micropore and macropore that could be useful in the wastewater purification.

  • To alter the paddy field to upland, mole drainages were constructed under 30cm of the surface of(Jeon buk silt loam) which is not appropriate for cultivation of upland crops. Intervals of the moles were 50cm, 100cm and 150cm and diverted to upland for soybean cultivation. By construction of the mole drainage, about 75% to 45% of the rainfall was drained and the ground water level was maintained below 40cm. After a year of drainage, the blocky surface was changed to granular or nutty structure which is common in upland fields. Oxidation was progressed to the deep layer because of soil dryness. Soybean yield were increased by 11% to 22% in the mole drained plots, but wet injury was occurred in the nontreated check plot with relatively poor growth status.

  • A method was proposed which employed control of the drop location of fertilizer particles on a spinner disc to optimize the spread pattern uniformity. The system contained an optical sensor as a feedback mechanism, which measured discharge velocity and location, as well as particle diameters to predict a spread pattern of a single disc. Simulations showed that the feed gate adaptation algorithm produced high quality patterns for any given application rate in the dual disc spreader. The performance of the feed gate control method was assessed using data collected from a Sulky spinner disc spreader. The results showed that it was always possible to find a spread pattern with an acceptable CV lower than 15%, even though the spread pattern was obtained from a rudimentary flat disc with straight radial vanes. A mathematical optimization method was used to find the initial parameter settings for a specially designed experimental spreading arrangement, which included the feed gate control system, for a given flow rate and swath width. Several experiments were carried out to investigate the relationship between the gate opening and flow rate, disc speed and particle velocity, as well as disc speed and predicted landing location of fertilizer particles. All relationships found were highly linear ($r^2$ > 0.96), which showed that the time-of-flight sensor was well suited as a feedback sensor in the rate and uniformity controlled spreading system.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the sustainable agriculture of no-tillage technique including recycling of the ridge and the furrow of a field for following crops in Korea. No-tillage systems affect soil physical properties such as three phase (solid, liquid, and air phase) and distribution of soil granular. Solid ratio of subsoil in 3-year of no-tillage (NT) treatment was remarkably lower than that in conventional (CT, 2-year of no-tillage + 1-year of tillage) treatment, while air ratio of subsoil in NT remarkably increased. Bulk density of subsoil in NT remarkably decreased. Porosity of subsoil in NT remarkably increased. Deviation of air phase, bulk density, and porosity of top soil and subsoil in NT remarkably decreased in NT compared with CT. Solid phase ratio and liquid phase ratio in NT and CT had positive (+) correlation. Solid phase ratio and air phase ratio in NT and CT had negative (-) correlation, also liquid phase ratio and air ratio had negative (-) correlation. Bulk density and liquid ratio in soil had positive (+) correlation at top soil and subsoil in NT. Bulk density and air ratio in soil had negative (-) correlation in NT and CT. Porosity and liquid phase ratio had negative (-) correlation, r =1), the significant value was lower in NT than in CT. Porosity and air phase ratio had positive (+) correlation (r =1).

  • Since mine wastes were merely dumped in the mine waste dump, they have produced acid mine drainage (AMD). Therefore, main objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of coal combustion products (CCPs) on heavy metal stabilization and detoxification for mine wastes. Total six treatments for incubation test were conducted depending on mixing method (completely mixing and layered). Also, lysimeter experiment was conducted to examine efficiency of polyacrylamide (PAM) on reduction of mine wastes erosion. Result of incubation test showed that concentrations of soluble aluminium (Al) and iron (Fe) in leachate decreased compared to control. The lowest soluble Al and Fe in leachate was observed in 50% mixed treatment (14.2 and $1.03mg\;kg^{-1}$ for Al and Fe respectively) compared to control treatment (253.0 for Al and $52.6mg\;kg^{-1}$ for Fe). The pH of mine wastes (MW) and leachate increased compared to control after mixing with CCPs and ordered as control (MW 6.4, leachate 6.3) < 10% (MW 7.7, leachate 7.1) < 20% (MW 9.0, leachate 7.8) < 30% (MW 9.5, leachate 8.3) < 40% (MW 9.9, leachate 8.5) < 50% (MW 10.5, leachate 8.6). Application of PAM, both in liquid and granular type, dramatically decreased the suspended solid (SS) concentration of CCPs treatments. Reduction of SS loss was ordered as MW70CR30L ($24.4mg\;L^{-1}$) > MW70CR30LPL ($6.7mg\;L^{-1}$) > NT ($3.1mg\;L^{-1}$) > MW70CR30M ($1.6mg\;L^{-1}$) > MW70CR30MPL ($1.1mg\;L^{-1}$) > MW70CR30PGM ($0.7mg\;L^{-1}$) > MW70CR30LPG ($0.5mg\;L^{-1}$) > MW70CR30MPG ($0.4mg\;L^{-1}$). Overall, application of CCPs can be environmental friendly and cost-effective way to remediate coal mine wastes contaminated with heavy metals. In addition, use of PAM could help to prevent the erosion coal mine wastes in mine waste disposal area.

  • This study was designed to investigate the effect of the late fall fertilization applied with methyl urea(MU), compound chemical fertilizer(CF), humate(HM), and organic compost fertilizer(NS) on spring greenup of creeping bentgrass at following year. The plots were treated with various snow cover periods before transforming to ski slopes from golf holes during 2007 fall to 2008 spring. The highest visual quality and greenup rate were shown on MU or HM applications at 10 days before snow cover treatment. The CF treatment which had a highest phosphorus rate was most effective with a 13 cm of root length at the reconversion date to golf hole from ski slope of the following spring. However, the application of CF followed by immediate snow cover showed the worst results on visual quality and green color caused by a leaf burning damage from the residual effect of CF. At least 10 days were required to avoid phytotoxicant from undissolved granular of CF before snow cover practise. The application of NS showed the highest result on leaf dry weight at no snow cover plot in next spring, but not on green color and visual quality. Therefore, the proper interval period of snow cover after late fall fertilization should be an important management skill on the spring greenup of creeping bentgrass on following year transforming from ski slope to golf hole.

  • A field experiment was conducted on a soil where habitual zinc deficiency has been observed, to investigate the effectiveness of two forms of zinc containing fertilizers: zinc enriched fused phosphate and zinc enriched compound fertilizer. The result of present study is summarized as following. 1. The sail used for the study contained relatively large amount of 1N $CH_2COONH_4$ extractable Ca and the pH was 7.03. Available Zn extracted by 0.1 HCl and available $SiO_2$ extracted by NaOAc were 3.35 ppm and 67.7 ppm respectively. 2. In control plots Zinc content of rice plant measured at 20 days after transplanting was 22-23 ppm, which was a little higher than the critical level (20ppm). But at harvesting stage it dropped to 15ppm. 3. The ratios of $P_2O_5/Zn$ and N/Zn tended to lower as the zinc applied to the soil increased. 4. Application of Zinc clearly increased the number of tillers and plant height as compared to the control. It was also observed that the plots received znic headed and matured earlier compared to the control plots by two weeks. 5. Application of zinc increased all of the yield components and the yield of rice. However, there were no statistical differences in yield and yield components among the forms and levels of zinc fertilizers.
