This study analyzes the geomorphic environments of river channels and properties of sediments in the Naeseong-River basin, a branch of Nakdong-River. While the area at NU1 located in the uppermost reaches indicates the landscapes with the gravel riverbeds, the sand riverbeds can be seen in the downstream of NU2 whose basin consists mostly of the granite regolith. The downstream of NU2 has the braided channels in the beds and this may be due to the large quantities of sand particles supply to the bed under the favorable geologic and geomorphic conditions, properties of river flowing within the floodplains less resistant to the erosion and great fluctuations of discharges. Whereas the river at NU2 may seem that sand particles are actively eroded during the high water-level periods, the particles may be actively deposited during the periods at NM2 and NL2. Moreover, in the reaches of NU2 to NM1 and NL1 to NL2, the mean grain sizes of sediments increase downstream suggesting the other supplies of coarse sediments from the lower order streams running the steep slopes because the river flows in the areas consisting of the metamorphic rocks rather than the granites and shows the properties of incised meander.
Lithium titanium oxide $(Li_4Ti_5O_{12})$ with spinel-framework structures as anode material for lithium-ion battery was prepared by sol-gel and high energy ball milling (HEBH) method. According to the X-ray diffraction (XRD), Particle Size Analyses(PSA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis, uniformly distributed $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ particles with grain sizes of 100 nm were observed. Half cells, consisting of $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ as working electrode and lithium foil as both counter and reference electrodes showed the high performance of high rate discharge capacity and 173 mAh/g at 0.2C in the range of $1.0\sim2.5 V$. Furthermore, the crystalline structure of $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ didn't transform during the lithium intercalation and deintercalation process.

To understand the transport pathways of muddy sediment of the Kunsan basin in Yellow Sea, grain sizes and clay mineral of 32 surface sediments and a sediment core were analyzed. In the study area, illite is predominant (63.4~71.9%), followed by chlorite (15.1~20.2%), kaolinite (10.3~17.2%) and smectite (2~6.9%), According to the spatial distribution of the clay minerals, illite, kaolinite+chlorite and smectite show relatively higher contents in the center of the north, northeast, and the south of the study area, respectively. Considering the spatial distribution of clay mineral contents the sand ridge alignments and tidal current pathways, the smectite particles were probably derived from the south of the study area, but kaolinite and/or chlorite particles were mainly transported from the Korean coastal zone. Meanwhile, down-core variation in the contents of clay minerals of the core revealed a distinct change in fine-grained muddy sediment provenance: muddy sediment input from the Korean coastal areas has increased while the input from China has decreased since the last 5,000 year ago, by showing the amount decrease of smectite and the increase of kaolinite+chlorite at the top layer of the late Holocene muddy sediment unit of the core.
As a basic research for breeding new varieties, reciprocal -intergeneric crosses between Citrus junos and P.trifoliata were made. F$_1$ hybrid production using in vitro ovule culture, gametogenesis, and fertilization phenomena were investigated. Frequency of fruit set resulting from crossing of Citrus junos and Poncirus Trifoliata was 16.6% while that of Poncirus Trifoliata and Citrus junos was 11.7%. Callus formation occurred well when ovules at the 6th week after pollination were cultured on MT (Murashige and Tucker) medium supplemented with zeatin 0.5 mg/L and NAA 1.0 or 3.0 mg/L. Immature ovules developed into mature embryos of the MT medium supplemented with 2,4-D 0.1 or 3.0 mg/L. Immature ovules developed into mature embryos of the MT medium supplemented with 2,4 D 0.1 or 0.5 mg/L. The invitro germination rates of 20-week-old ovules set C. junos $\times$ P. Trifoliata and P. Trifoliata $\times$ C. junos were 54.5% and 48.6%, respectively. The emergence ratios of trifoliate hybrids obtained by C. junos $\times$ P. Trifoliata and P. Trifoliata $\times$ C. junos were 56.7% and 100%, respectively. The chromosome number of C. junos and P. Trifoliata was n = 9 or 2n = 18, and the sizes of their pollen grain were 33.75 $\mu$ and 25.0 $\mu$. The length and width of embryo sac in C. junos and P. Trifoliata were 69.38~79.23 $\mu$ and 27.50~38.56 $\mu$, and those of egg cells were 17.50~41.50 $\mu$ and 6.25~8.12$\mu$. Fertilization of C. junos and P. trifoliata terminated 72 h after pollination.
Thermodynamic modeling of the $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ complex ferrite system has been adopted as a rational approach to establish routes to better synthesis conditions for pure phase $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ complex ferrite. Quantitative analysis of the different reaction equilibria involved in the precipitation of $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ from aqueous solutions has been used to determine the optimum synthesis conditions. The spinel ferrites, such as magnetite and substitutes for magnetite, with the general formula $MFe_2O_4$, where M= $Fe^{2+}$, $Co^{2+}$, and $Ni^{2+}$ are prepared by coprecipitation of $Fe^{3+}$ and $M^{2+}$ ions with a stoichiometry of $M^{2+}/Fe^{3+}$= 0.5. The average particle size of the as synthesized $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$, measured by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), is 14.2 nm, with a standard deviation of 3.5 nm the size when calculated using X-ray diffraction (XRD) is 16 nm. When $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite is annealed at elevated temperature, larger grains are formed by the necking and mass transport between the $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite nanoparticles. Thus, the grain sizes of the $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ gradually increase as heat treatment temperature increases. Based on the results of Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) analysis, it is found that the hydroxyl groups on the surface of the as synthesized ferrite nanoparticles finally decompose to $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ crystal with heat treatment. The results of XRD and TEM confirmed the nanoscale dimensions and spinel structure of the samples.

3YSZ + (x) $Al_2O_3$ composites (x = 20, 40, 60, 80 wt%) were fabricated and the influences of particle sizes of $Al_2O_3$ on their microstructures and mechanical properties were investigated with XRD, SEM, vickers hardness and fracture toughness. $Al_2O_3$-3YSZ composites containing $Al_2O_3$ powder of a $0.3{\mu}m$ and an $1.0{\mu}m$, which are here in after named as $Al_2O_3$($0.3{\mu}m$)-3YSZ and $Al_2O_3$($1.0{\mu}m$)-3YSZ, respectively, were made by mixing raw materials, uni-axial pressing and sintering at $1,400^{\circ}C$, $1,500^{\circ}C$, and $1,600^{\circ}C$. $Al_2O_3$($0.3{\mu}m$)-3YSZ composites show the higher density and the better mechanical properties than $Al_2O_3$($1.0{\mu}m$)-3YSZ composites. The Vickers hardness of the $Al_2O_3$($0.3{\mu}m$)-3YSZ composites show a peak value of 1,997 Hv at the content of 60 wt% $Al_2O_3$, which is a slightly higher value in comparison with 1,938 Hv of the $Al_2O_3$($1.0{\mu}m$)-3YSZ composite. However, the fracture toughness of $Al_2O_3$-3YSZ composites monotonically increases with decreasing the content of $Al_2O_3$ without any peak values. $Al_2O_3$($0.3{\mu}m$)-3YSZ and $Al_2O_3$($1.0{\mu}m$)-3YSZ composites sintered at $1,600^{\circ}C$ have a maximum value of a $6.9MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$ and a $6.2MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$, respectively at the composition of containing 20 wt% $Al_2O_3$. It should be noticed that the mechanical properties and the sintering density of the $Al_2O_3$-3YSZ composites can be enhanced by using more fine $Al_2O_3$ powder due to their denser microstructure and smaller grain size.
An in vitro fermentation was conducted to determine the effects of hainanmycin on protein degradation and populations of ammonia-producing bacteria. The substrates (DM basis) for in vitro fermentation consisted of alfalfa hay (31.7%), Chinese wild rye grass hay (28.3%), ground corn grain (24.5%), soybean meal (15.5%) with a forage: concentrate of 60:40. Treatments were the control (no additive) and hainanmycin supplemented at 0.1 (H0.1), 1 (H1), 10 (H10), and 100 mg/kg (H100) of the substrates. After 24 h of fermentation, the highest addition level of hainanmycin decreased total VFA concentration and increased the final pH. The high addition level of hainanmycin (H1, H10, and H100) reduced (p<0.05) branched-chain VFA concentration, the molar proportion of acetate and butyrate, and ratio of acetate to propionate; and increased the molar proportion of propionate, except that for H1 the in molar proportion of acetate and isobutyrate was not changed (p>0.05). After 24 h of fermentation, H10 and H100 increased (p<0.05) concentrations of peptide nitrogen and AA nitrogen and proteinase activity, and decreased (p<0.05) $NH_3$-N concentration and deaminase activity compared with control. Peptidase activitives were not affected by hainanmycin. Hainanmycin supplementation only inhibited the growth of Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens, which is one of the species of low deaminative activity. Hainanmycin supplementation also decreased (p<0.05) relative population sizes of hyper-ammonia-producing species, except for H0.1 on Clostridium aminophilum. It was concluded that dietary supplementation with hainanmycin could improve ruminal fermentation and modify protein degradation by changing population size of ammonia-producing bacteria in vitro; and the addition level of 10 mg/kg appeared to achieve the best results.
Changes in food preferences and dietary habits of Korean prone to decrease consumption of the traditional energy source, rice. The exceeding condition of rice production in Korea is now not only impacting on the profit structure of farmers but also threatening food security. Although there have been several efforts to increase rice consumption rate, by developing various processed foods using rice flour, grain hardness of rice has been the most significant limiting factor. In this study, we addressed the suitability of the Namil(SA)-flo1, a mutant rice line has floury endosperm, in terms of producing rice flour by using dry-milling method, which is lower cost and more eco-friendly than other available methods such as wet-milling. Rice flour of the Namil(SA)-flo1 exhibited superior physico-chemical characteristics to any other check varieties including the wild type, Namil, in terms of distribution of granule sizes and content of damaged starch.
The major objective of this study was to develop further understanding of 3D nearshore hydrodynamics under a variety of wave and tidal forcing conditions. The main tool used was a comprehensive 3D numerical model - combining the flow module of Delft3D with the WAVE solver of XBeach - of nearshore hydro- and morphodynamics that can simulate flow, sediment transport, and morphological evolution. Surf-swash zone hydrodynamics were modeled using the 3D Navier-Stokes equations, combined with various turbulence models (${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$, ${\kappa}-L$, ATM and H-LES). Sediment transport and resulting foreshore profile changes were approximated using different sediment transport relations that consider both bed- and suspended-load transport of non-cohesive sediments. The numerical set-up was tested against field data, with good agreement found. Different numerical experiments under a range of bed characteristics and incident wave and tidal conditions were run to test the model's capability to reproduce 3D flow, wave propagation, sediment transport and morphodynamics in the nearshore at the field scale. The results were interpreted according to existing understanding of surf and swash zone processes. Our numerical experiments confirm that the angle between the crest line of the approaching wave and the shoreline defines the direction and strength of the longshore current, while the longshore current velocity varies across the nearshore zone. The model simulates the undertow, hydraulic cell and rip-current patterns generated by radiation stresses and longshore variability in wave heights. Numerical results show that a non-uniform seabed is crucial for generation of rip currents in the nearshore (when bed slope is uniform, rips are not generated). Increasing the wave height increases the peaks of eddy viscosity and TKE (turbulent kinetic energy), while increasing the tidal amplitude reduces these peaks. Wave and tide interaction has most striking effects on the foreshore profile with the formation of the intertidal bar. High values of eddy viscosity, TKE and wave set-up are spread offshore for coarser grain sizes. Beach profile steepness modifies the nearshore circulation pattern, significantly enhancing the vertical component of the flow. The local recirculation within the longshore current in the inshore region causes a transient offshore shift and strengthening of the longshore current. Overall, the analysis shows that, with reasonable hypotheses, it is possible to simulate the nearshore hydrodynamics subjected to oceanic forcing, consistent with existing understanding of this area. Part II of this work presents 3D nearshore morphodynamics induced by the tides and waves.
Bonding of resin to cast alloy has traditionally been provided by mechanical retention. But, chemical bonding methods such as silicoating, tin plating, heat treatment, application of 4-META adhesives, have been developed to overcome the problems of the mechanical bonding methods. Silicoating has been used availaby in fixed prosthodontics, but is also reported to be used in removable prosthodontics. The aim of this study is to measure the tensile bond strength between resin and metal, and compare the effect of the type of metal and the grain size of the aluminum oxide on the bond strength, after metal surface roughening, coating of the opaque resin, and curing of heat-curing resin were performed. The test groups were divided into 4 groups according to the cast alloys and the aluminum oxide particles used. Group 1 : Type 4 gold alloy(DM66) blasted with $$50{\mu}m\;Al_{2}O_3$$ Group 2 : Type 4 gold alloy(DM66) blasted with $$250{\mu}m\;Al_{2}O_3$$, Group 3 : Co-Cr alloy(Nobilium) blasted with $$50{\mu}m\;Al_{2}O_3$$ Group 4 : Co-Cr alloy(Nobilium) blasted with $$250{\mu}m\;Al_{2}O_3$$ * 10 test specimens were made on each group. The specimens were thermocycled, and Instron Universal testing machine was used to measure the tensile bond strength of the finished specimens. The results were as follows : 1. Bond strengths showed that the group of gold alloy blasted with $250{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide particle had higher bond strength, and the group of gold alloy blasted with $50{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide particles had lower bond strength than any of the other groups. 2. Gold alloy had significantly higher bond strength when blasted with $250{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide particles than $50{\mu}m$, but. Co-Cr alloy showed no statistically significant difference between the two particle sizes. 3. When blasted with $50{mu}m$ aluminum oxide particles, Co-Cr alloy showed significantly higher bond strength than gold alloy. And, when blasted with $250{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide particles, gold alloy had significantly higher bond strength than Co-Cr alloy. 4. On the examination of the fractured sites, only the group of Co-Cr alloy blasted with $50{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide particles showed a part of residual opaque resin, but all the samples of the other groups fractured between the resin and the metal.
