Four different rice varieties, Sindongjinbyeo, Dongjin #1, Saegyehwabyeo, and Iksan 467, were transplanted under three different nitrogen levels and two different seedling numbers per hill to obtain basic information on panicle traits under different cultural conditions and to propose the ideal panicle structure in Japonica rice. Sindongjinbyeo and Iksan 467 were characterized by more primary rachis branches (PRBs) per panicle and more grains on PRB than other cultivars. The two varieties also had fewer secondary rachis branches (SRBs) per PRB and fewer grains on SRB per PRB. These characteristics, consequently, resulted in higher ripened grain rate, contrary to that of Dongjin #1 and Saegyehwabyeo. In the correlation coefficient analysis, PRB number per panicle and grain number on PRB per panicle were positively correlated with ripened grain rate, while SRB number per panicle, number of grains on SRB per panicle, SRB number per PRB, number of grains on SRB per PRB and grain number per panicle were negatively correlated with ripened grain rate. Therefore, the number of grains on PRB per panicle, SRB number per PRB and the number of grains on SRB per PRB were the appropriate criteria for determining and achieving higher ripened grain rate in rice. High ripened grain rate over 90% was obtainable with over 12.5 PRBs per panicle and 63 grains on PRB per panicle, and with under 1.7 SRBs per PRB, 5 grains on SRB per PRB, 130 grains per panicle, and 14 panicles per hill. The study recommended that for over 90% high ripened grain rate, the critical limiting factors should be under 2 SRBs per PRB, 6 grains per PRB, and 130 grains per panicle, irrespective of the PRB number per panicle and the number of grains on PRB.
The detection, characterization and use of quantitative traits loci, QTL, have significant potential to improve the efficiency of selective breeding of species. Therefore, a population with 59 advanced backcross lines($BC_2F_5$), derived from a cross between IR64 and Tarome molaei, were studied in Tonekabon Rice Research Station of Iran in order to map QTLs for panicle length, number of grain per panicle, and panicle grain sterility in rice. The parental screening wtih 235 SSR markers in agarose and polyacrylamide gels revealed 114 markers with clear polymorphic bands. To search for QTLs associated with panicle length, number of grain per panicle, and panicle grain sterility, we constructed a genetic linkage map using 114 microsatellite markers. Positive and negative transgressive segregations were observed in $BC_2F_5$ lines for all traits. Using multiple interval mapping(MIM), a total of 20 putative QTLs were detected, of which eight were for panicle length, three for number of grains, and nine for panicle grain sterility. The maximum number of QTLs were mapped on chromosomes 1 and 2 with eight QTLs. These QTL markers could possible be utilized for marker-assisted selection.
This study was carried out in the central part of Korea in 1972 to investigate optimum grain number per square meter and variation of the yield and its components in the direct sowing culture on irrigated paddy field. The results could be summarized as follows; 1. Number of maximum tillerings was directly increased with increase of grain number from 120 to 280 per square meter and it was gradually decreased with increase of number sowing grain. So number of maximum tillerings showed at the plot of 280 grain per square meter. Also it was showed remarkable competition at the plot more than 280 grain per square meter. 2. Percentage of effective tiller was decreased with increase of number of sowing grain from 120 to 280 per square meter and after it was gradually decreased with increase of number of sowing grain. 3. It was not remarkable competition in plot less than 1, 000 tillering per square meter on the number of maximum tillerings. 4. It was remarkable positive correlation between the number of panicle and the number of sowing grain, but it was tendency to negative correlation between the number of panicle and the number of spiklets per panicle, and between the number of panicle and the ripening ratio. 5. Correlation coefficient between the yield and the number of spiklet per square meter of land area was 0.929, r=0.695 in the yield and the number of panicle, r=0.796 in the number of panicles and the number of spiklets per square meter Also in rank correlation, it was showed most highly positive correlation(r=0.954) between the yield and the number of panicles, so number of panicles was most largely dominated on yield among the yield components in direct sowing culture on irrigated paddy field. 6. It was producted highest yield in the plot of 280 grain sowing per square meter.

Rice grain yield is determined by crop dry matter production that is sensitive to temperature. Our objective was to determine whether the difference in temperature between years had an impact on the relationship between yield components and grain yield. Field experiments were conducted under machine transplanting cultivation by using yield data of two japonica rice varieties, Odaebyeo (early maturing) and Nampyeong (mid-late maturing), in 2013 to 2016 in Suwon, Korea. Plant height, dry weight, and yield components were examined by analysis of variance, correlation. The milled rice yield of the two varieties were the highest in 2016, however the lowest yields were observed in the different years. In 2016, Odaebyeo produced $0.96t\;ha^{-1}$ greater milled rice yield than in 2015, and Nampyeong produced $1.11t\;ha^{-1}$ greater yield than in 2013. The correlation analysis indicated that spikelet per panicle (R = 0.53) was associated with grain yield of Odaebyeo. In Nampyeong, biomass at heading date (R = 0.74), 1000-grain weight (R = 0.71), spikelet per panicle (R = 0.58), and panicle number per $m^2$ were associated with grain yield. Sink size (spikelet number per $m^2$) of the two varieties responded to accumulative temperature from transplanting to panicle initiation stage. In this experiment, optimal accumulative temperature before panicle initiation has effect on increased spikelet number and/or number of panicle that were mainly responsible for yield difference. Rice production research to increase grain yield should consider all yield components, but increased emphasis on biomass production before heading is also necessary as well as grain ripening conditions.
To investigate the relationship between symptom development of Bakanae disease and yield component (the length of panicle, weight of panicle, number of healthy grain per panicle and number of panicle per hill), rice seedlings infected with F. moniliforme were transplanted. The number of panicles per hill and healthy grain per panicle were greatly decreased by the development of Bakanae symptom. Yield components was not correlated with the time of the Bakanae symptom development. Rice plants with Bakanae symptom had lower yield as 210g per 10 hills than healthy plants as 469g per 10 hills.
In order to obtain basic information for selecting early maturing rice varieties which is suitable for early cropping before Alisma plantago in the southern part of Korea. Six rice varieties were grown from May to August in 2002 at Youngjeon Experiment Field, Sunchon and yield components and yield of plants were investingated. Early maturing rice cv. Grubyeo showed higher rough rice yield than any other varieties used in the experiment. It showed high yield components, such as culm length, panicle length, number of panicles per plant, number of spikelets per panicle and ratio of ripened grains. Therefore, it was concluded that Grubyeo was the most suitable variety with high yield for the cultivation before growing of Alisma plantago at the southern part of Korea. The heritability of culm length number of spikelets per panicle and rough rice yield were high and that of panicle length number of panicle per plant, ratio of ripened grain and 1,000 grain wt. of milled rice were low. According to the result of path coefficient analysis, characters highly correlated with rough rice yield showed large direct effects on rough rice yield.
This study was conducted to evaluate the growth characteristics and grain component of 10 collected colored rice cultivars to find out the possibilities of using the agronomically usefull characters to provide information for colored rice breeding and cultivation. The coefficients of variation of culm length, grains number, ripening rate, maturity time, and coat color of grain and seed were higher than those of other characters. The positive correlations were observed among heading dates, grain numbers per panicle, and 1000 grain weight, as well as between culm length and panicle length, panicle length and grain numbers per panicle, 1000 grain weight and darkness of seed coat color, while negative correlations were observed between heading dates and panicle numbers per hill, grain yield and seed coat color as well as among culm length, length, number per hill and seed coat color of brown rice, respectively. The first component of principal component analysis was consist of panicle numbers per hill, 1000 grain weight, and grain yield showing higher correlations among them which explained the variance of the sink size of respective cultivars. The second component of principal component analysis was consist of heading date, grain numbers per panicle and maturing date showing higher correlations among them which explained the variance of maturity of respective cultivars.
The use of liming material raised soil pH. This brought about a decrease in panicle number per hill. but an increase in the number of grains per panicle in pot cultured paddy production. It also improved grain maturity and thousand grain weight. .An effective control of such contradictory effect of liming material would be one way to increase the paddy production in actual field.
Two rice varieties were planted and four degrees of defoliated tiller num ber ratio and another four levels of defoliation-panicle removal tiller number ratio were made at heading stage of know the possibility of translocation of photosynthetic products between tillers during grain filling stage of rice plant. The more tillers defoliated in a hill, the less matured grain ratio and the less grain weight per panicle of normal tillers were found. But the matured grain ratio and the grain weight per panicle of tillers defoliated partly in a hill showed higher than those of tillers of completely defoliated plant. No differences of the matured grain ratio and the grain weight per panicle were found between different levels of defoliation-panicle removal tiller number ratio in a hill. But the matured grain ratio and the grain weight per panicle of tillers of completely defoliated plant were significantly lower than those of tillers of partly defoliation-panicle removal treatments. These results indicated that the translocation of photosynthetic products between tillers was possible during grain filling period in rice plant. Source-sink relationship can be applied to interpret the result obtained in this study.
In order to obtain basic informations for selecting early maturing rice varieties which is suitable for early cropping before Alisma plantago in the southern part of Korea. Eleven rice varieties were grown from May to September in 1999∼2001 at Sunchon Youngieon Experiment Field and yield components and yield of plants were investingated. Early maturing rice cv. Jinbubyeo showed higher rough rice yield than any other varieties used in the experiment. It showed high yield components, culm length, panicle length, number of panicles per plant, number of spikelets per panicle and ratio of ripened grains. therefore, it was concluded that Jinbubyeo was the most suitable variety with high yield for the cultivation before Alisma plantago at the southern part of Korea. The heritability of culm length number of spikelets per panicle and rough rice yield were high and that of panicle length number of panicle per plant, ratio of ripened grain and 1,000 grain wt. of milled rice were low. The rough rice yield showed highly significant positive correlations with culm length, panicle length, number of spikelets per panicles and ratio of ripened grains.
