Purpose: This study aimed to identify attitude and knowledge level on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among nursing and paramedic students. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted from December 1st to 20th in 2019. A total of 210 students participated from two universities in Korea. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests and one-way analysis of variance. Results: Students were positive about the government's spending on PTSD treatment (91.4%), and professional training (92.4%). PTSD patients were considered to be more dangerous (68.1%) and violent (42.4%) than the general population. There were no significant differences in attitude and general knowledge on PTSD between nursing and paramedic students. However, general knowledge on PTSD differed according to education experience on PTSD (t=2.04, p=.043). Knowledge scores for PTSD treatment differed significantly according to the academic major (t=2.02, p=.044), and education experience on PTSD (t=2.87, p=.005). Conclusions: The results of this study indicate nursing and paramedic students lack knowledge on PTSD. Therefore, developing curriculum regarding PTSD-related contents in undergraduate and continuing education in both departments is needed to provide better quality health care to people with PTSD.
Purpose: This study was done to provide information about issues of clinical competency from the perspective of new graduate nurses and to make suggestions for improving undergraduate education programmes. Purpose: The current challenges faced by nurses in providing high quality and evidence-based practice (EBP) supported care require profound changes in nursing education. To understand the changes needed to strengthen EBP education, the researchers examined EBP self-efficacy, course needs, barriers, and facilitators for academic faculty and clinical nurse preceptors to teach EBP in undergraduate nursing curricula. Methods: For this study, mixed-method approach was used with survey data collected from 73 academic faculty members from 54 universities. Further, 17 clinical nurse preceptors in three academic hospitals provided qualitative data for exploration of barriers and facilitators to teaching EBP. Data analysis used SPSS/WIN 21.0 and content analysis. Results: Quantitative data showed that although the overall level of self-efficacy among faculty was moderate, the implementation levels were relatively low. Most faculty members agreed with the need to integrate EBP courses into undergraduate nursing curricula. The qualitative data showed that the barriers to teaching EBP were lack of knowledge, skill, and initial investment for teaching EBP; hierarchical, rules-oriented nursing culture; potential learner overloads in processing EBP; limited research dissemination and application. Facilitators were identified as the importance of EBP to the profession of nursing; collaboration in schools and hospitals; and continuing education in teaching/utilizing EBP. Conclusion: The findings indicate that for successful integration of EBP ni nursing education there is a need for faculty training and integrated EBP courses.
Purpose To develop an educational program using virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in oriental medicine education, this study investigated the status of programs currently being used mainly in the fields of medicine, nursing, and dentistry, and was the basis for developing an oriental medicine education program. We plan to use this for future research purposes. Methods To investigate medical simulation education using VR and AR technologies, 72 studies were searched using the ProQuest Central Database (period 1.1.2000 to 10.10.2023.) Of these, 22 were selected for analysis. Results Among the selected studies, the educational fields of the program were 59% (13 studies) in medicine, 32% (7 studies) in nursing, 9% (2 studies) in dentistry, 73% (16 studies) were VR in terms of applied technology, and 27% (6 studies) in AR. Conclusions Recently, research on VRand AR has increased in the medical field. As patient rights and medical environments change, clinical practice education programs using new technologies are needed, in addition to traditional face-to-face practice. Related research is expected to be active in the field of Oriental medicine in the future.
