Rice quality is considered to have two general meanings; 1) milling, cooking, and processing quality, which refer to suitability of the grain for a particular end-use; and 2) physical quality, which means cleanliness, soundness, and freedom from foreign materials. Grain type is associated with specific milling, cooking, and processing characteristics. Thus, this experiment was conducted to classify the grain type categories and marketing grades for Korean leading rice varieties. Length: width ratio of brown rice kernel ranged from 1.57 to 2.25 and most of varieties belonged to short grain except Tongil type rice varieties. Mean of length: width ratio of brown rice kernel was 1.77 and coefficient of variance was 4.79% in short grain type varieties. Grain shape could be further classified into 5 types by length:width ratio of brown rice kernel; 1 type(less than 1.75), 2 type(1.76∼1.80), 3 type(1.81∼1.90), 4 type(1.91∼2.00), and 5 type (greater than 2.00). For 1 and 2 type of varieties, woven wire sieve having 1.7mm openings showed better whole-kernel yields for special marketing grade, and sieve having 2.0mm openings for 3 and 4 type of varieties. Grain type which classified into 5 categories was not associated with physicochemical and cooking characteristics of rice grain, but sensory evaluation of cooked rice showed better score for 1 type varieties in terms of appearance, gloss, flavor, texture, stickiness, and taste.
In effort to estimate sustainability of the transportation sector, this study conducts a comparative analysis of methodology suggested for measuring greenhouse gas emission. There are two approaches proposed by the UN IPCC: 1) top-down approach (TDA) based on the amount oil sales, and 2) bottom-up approach (BUA) utilizing the velocity of moving source and traffic volume data. The subject areas for analysis were selected based on research results by the Korea Transportation Institute that evaluate traffic sustainability of each local government. Gwacheon-si being one of the top ranked areas in sustainability, and Anseong-si being ranked at the 7th level were analyzed. By the tier 1 methodology, Gwacheon-si and Anseong-si are estimated to create 74,813ton/yr, and 584,125ton/yr of the greenhouse gas emission, respectively. The tier 3 methodology, however, estimates Gwacheon-si and Anseong-si to create 91,462ton/yr, and 163,801ton/yr of the emission, respectively. Comparison of the two estimated emissions shows considerable differences; i.e., the tier 3 method over estimates Gwacheon-si's emission by 22.3% whereas it underestimates Anseong-si's greenhouse gas emission by the factor of about 3.5 compared to the emissions obtained from the tier 1 method. The result from this study implies that the traffic-sustainability-index based grade of each local government can be evaluated differently by the method adopted for measuring greenhouse gas emission.
This study was carried out to investigate the feeding effect of by-products such as ginseng loaves(GL) and stem (GS) which had about 8% of crude saponin on pork carcass and meat quality characteristics when they were fed for 40 days. The ginseng leaves and stem were added in feed and the pigs were slaughtered at 10, 20, 30 and 40 days. The chilled carcass weight and trimmed fat contents were higher(86.50 kg) in the pork fed for 40 days. The yields of fore legs were higher in pork fed for 10 days(P<0.05) and there was no different in the yields of the other portion cuts such as shoulder, rib, loin, belly, hind legs and tenderlons. The incidence of percentages for grade A and B decreased as the feeding periods increased up to 40 days. The backfat thickness was lowest in carcasses from pigs fed up to 20 days(P<0.05). The L values were highest in pork fed up to 30 days(50.22) and lowest(46.91) for pork fed 10 days. The incidence of PSE pork was low in pork fed for 20 days when compared to other feeding days. Cooking loss was lowest and water holding capacity(WHC) was highest in pork fed GL and GS stem, respectively. However, the analysis for accumulation contents of saponin and functionality in pork fed GL and GS is needed in the future research.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate mental health problems in obese child and adolescent patients. We assess the frequency of mental health problems and their differences according to sex, school grade and severity of obesity. Methods: The sample consisted of 106 children and adolescents aged 8-16 years (61 boys with mean age $10.98{\pm}2.26$, 45 girls with mean age $9.74{\pm}1.96$, p=.004) who were diagnosed with obesity and recruited at the Department of Pediatrics of Jeju National University Hospital. The participants completed the Korean-Child Behavior Checklist (K-CBCL), Children's Depression Inventory (CDI), Korean version of the Eating Attitude Test-26 (KEAT-26), and somatotype drawings. Results: The percentage of participants having a T-score in clinical range on one or more CBCL subscale was 37.7%. The percentage of participants in the high risk group for depression (CDI score above 17) was 20.8% and that in the high risk group for eating disorder (EAT-26 score above 20) was 6%. The girls showed significantly lower CBCL T-scores in social competence ($48.39{\pm}15.66$ vs. $38.91{\pm}22.04$, p=.011), adjustment function ($49.51{\pm}17.35$ vs. $40.38{\pm}22.58$, p=.020) and school competence ($53.34{\pm}10.47$ vs. $48.22{\pm}15.11$, p=.042) than the boys, but the percentages of boys and girls in clinical range were not significantly different. The middle school students showed (significantly) higher CBCL T-scores in somatic symptoms ($60.86{\pm}9.44$ vs. $55.74{\pm}6.76$, p=.005), aggressive behavior ($58.81{\pm}6.74$ vs. $54.68{\pm}6.22$, p=.009), total problems ($59.86{\pm}9.91$ vs. $54.88{\pm}9.76$, p=.039) and externalizing problems ($57.90{\pm}10.57$ vs. $52.44{\pm}9.38$, p=.022) than the elementary school students. The severe obesity group showed significantly higher CBCL T-scores in attention problems ($59.18{\pm}9.45$ vs. $54.15{\pm}5.34$, p=.001), social problems ($59.25{\pm}8.59$ vs. $55.96{\pm}6.50$, p=.038), delinquent behavior ($58.07{\pm}6.97$ vs. $54.73{\pm}6.00$, p=.017) and total problems ($59.21{\pm}11.65$ vs. $54.67{\pm}9.03$, p=.037) than the mild to moderate obesity group. Conclusion: Significant proportions of obese children and adolescents suffer from mental health problems. Clinicians need to pay attention to the mental health risk, especially in obese adolescents and severely obese children and adolescents.
The purposes of this study were to analyze high school students' understanding about the Earth system and systems thinking process, and to develop science writing programs designed to assess students' understanding about themes of Earth Science such as global warming, volcanoes, and desertification. A total of 8 $11^{th}$ grade students from general high schools participated in the writing program and draw the causal maps. The methods of this study are as follows. First, DAET-C was used to investigate the way of students' understanding about the Earth systems. What the students' best understood was the component of the Earth systems followed by the interaction of the Earth systems and the scientific literacy of Earth science. Second, feedback circulations on the causal maps were found in four students in global warming section, one student in volcanic eruption section, and four students in desertification section, which means that systems thinking was not largely employed by the students. Consequently, the student participants understood that the global change was happening in correlation with complex concepts and factors, but they were short of using systems thinking in their science study. Therefore, the result of this study suggests that more studies be conducted to develop systems thinking in Earth Science learning through science writing programs.

The purpose of this study is to explore the process of inquiry problem finding in high school students' small group free-inquiry. For this purpose, 91 second grade high school students took part in small group free-inquiry. We conducted interviews with students (48 students in 15 groups) who were relatively successful in the inquiry performed for one semester (about 4 months). Based on the results of the interviews, we analyzed the characteristics of the inquiry problem finding through the steps and strategies in the inquiry problem finding process. The main results are as follows: First, in the inquiry problem finding process, steps such as selecting keyword, presenting an inconvenience, presenting a question, and finding an inquiry problem were found, and in particular, the process of selecting the keyword that correspond to the subject of inquiry, such as the material and situation of inquiry, is very important step in inquiry problem finding. Second, the strategies that students used in the process of finding inquiry problem included searching information, review of prior research, sharing of knowledge and experience, linking and extension of knowledge and experience, environmental awareness, expert consultation, discussion of suitability, elaboration, etc. Third, finding an inquiry problem was relatively easy in the inquiry for finding out problems (i.e. inconvenience) in everyday life and investigating ways to solve them. Fourth, the review of prior researches through the internet was useful in the process of selecting keyword and elaboration. Fifth, the factors that students consider when selecting one of several candidate inquiry problems are feasibility, real-life applicability, and economic condition. Sixth, the current affairs had a positive impact on the inquiry problem finding. Based on the above results, we discussed some ways to increase students' inquiry problem finding ability.

Hanwoo has improved the quality of carcass traits. Especially, the higher the grade, the better the texture and taste of Hanwoo. One of the many factors that determine consumer preferences in food is the flavor. The flavor of food is expressed through heat treatment, and fat, carbohydrate and water-soluble compound are important ingredients for flavor. Therefore, The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of fatty acids and carcass traits of 373 Hanwoos. The oleic acid (C18:1) and linolenic acid (C18:3) contents were 48.08% and 0.11%, respectively, while the carcass weight, Eye muscle area, back fat thickness and marbling score of the carcass trait were 383.73 kg, 83.88 ㎠, 10.91 mm, 3.89, respectively. The heritability of oleic acid was estimated to be 0.726, and the phenotypic correlation between eye muscle area and marbling score was estimated to be 0.105 and 0.141, respectively. The phenotype of the marbling score and eye muscle area were positively correlated with Oleic acid. Therefore, the improvement of these two traits seems to affect the increase of unsaturated fatty acid content.

The purpose of the study were to analyze the patterns of adolescent suicide attempts, and to explore the effects of personal psychology (subjective depression, subjective stress), health status (BMI, subjective health perception), and subjective academic performance on the types of youth suicide attempts. For this research, data of 'The 15th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey' were analyzed employing a hierarchical logistic regression analysis. The findings are as follows. First, out of 1,731 youth suicide attempts 156 (9%) were impulsive and 1,575 (91%) were planned. Girls(67.3%) attempted suicide more than boys (32.5%), and middle school students (62%) attempted suicide more than high school students (38%). Second, the variables that significantly affect suicide attempt types were subjective depression, subjective stress, and subjective health perception, after controlling for gender, grade level, school type, and SES. The rate of planned suicide attempts was higher among those who experienced depression than among those who did not. In the case of subjective stress, adolescents who felt stressed were likely to commit planned suicide attempts. Those who attempted impulsive suicide showed 1.32 times higher subjective health perception scores than those who attempted planned suicide, indicating adolescents who perceived they were not healthy were more likely to attempt planned suicide. BMI and subjective academic performance did not have a significant effect on the types of youth suicide attempts. These findings suggested the necessity of systematic intervention in Home Economics classes or extra-curricular programs, to prevent potential youth suicide attempts.

The purpose of this study was (a) to identify latent profiles among employed Korean mothers of third graders based on work-family conflict, work-family enrichment, work-parenting conflict, and work-parenting enrichment, (b) to examine the antecedents of profile membership at the individual, family, work, and community levels, and (c) to investigate the differences in the various psychological outcomes across the profiles. The sample of 451 married employed mothers was a subset of data from the 10th Wave of the Panel Study of Korean Children, which was collected in 2017 when the focal child was in the third grade. Our latent profile analysis suggested a three-profile model that comprised enriched (11.91%), moderate (47.85%), and mixed (40.24%) profiles. The significant antecedents of profile membership were subjective health status, the child's adjustment to school, working hours, the community's suitability for childrearing, and satisfaction with community service facilities. Regarding psychological outcomes, the levels of life satisfaction, marital satisfaction, and job satisfaction were higher in the following order: enriched, moderate, and mixed profiles. The levels of depressive symptoms were in the reverse order: mixed, moderate, and enriched profiles. This study contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the literature on work-family interactions by considering various predictors and outcomes at multiple levels.
The aim of this study was to identify the factors affecting the mental health of high school students. The participants comprised 216 students in general high school. Data collection was conducted from May 1, 2020 to May 20, 2020. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and a multiple regression analysis. The average score for self-esteem was 3.75±0.64(1-5), perceived stress was 2.86±0.58(1-5), emotional regulation ability was 3.43±0.65(1-5) and mental health was 1.91±0.71(1-5). Mental health had a statistically significant relationship with self-esteem(r=-.64, p<.001), emotional regulation ability(r=-.61, p<.001) and perceived stress(r=.54, p<.001). The factors affecting mental health were self-esteem(β=.46, p<.001), emotional regulation ability(β=-.37, p<.001), negative perceived stress(β=.17, p=.001) ; the explanatory power of the model was 60.0%. Therefore, it will be necessary to develop a program that can help high school students improve their self-esteem and control their negative emotions in order to promote their mental health.
