The purpose of this plan was to introduce the imaginary environment concept to modem environment design which was drawn by comparison of historic and cultural landscape. An area of $19,056m^2$ in I1-ja mountain water reservoir, located in 94 Dun-Chon-Dong, Gangdong-Gu, Seoul was selected for this planning. The concepts of Barrier-Free Design and Universal Design were introduced in order to accept the demands of various social classes. Based on the results of natural and cultural environment, Animism, Heaven, Earth and Man Theory and Yin-Yang and the Five Elements Theory these concepts were introduced for the philosophical background. Concept planning, topic selection, space planning and axis establishment were conducted during the framework step of the plan. Circulation planning, planting planning, facility and pavement planning, and light planning were conducted during the initial planning step. Lastly, detailed designing was performed for the major spaces. In addition, the imaginary environment concept was applied, ranging from the structural aspect of the space to designing factors of the facility in order to achieve placeness and practicality. In conclusion, this may be the first case design applying the imaginary environment concept to the environmental design with natural environment factors such as animals, plants, terrains and climate, and cultural such as cities, places, time, thoughts and symbols which are all factors to be considered in the existing environment design.

This study had the purpose to restore imaginary environment involved to symbolic thinking system of Eastern culture discontinued by scientific and reasonable rationalism of Western. To restore imaginary environment, this study selected example places such as Seoul, Beijing, Kyoto which were ancient cities of Korea, China, Japan each and used hermeneutics and phenomenological access method to draw out the element of imaginary environment by analyzing historical and cultural view of example cities. Through comparison and re-interpretation of historical and cultural view of three countries[Korea, China, Japan] in Northeast Asia, as the result of drawing imaginary environment involved within it, it was structured that the spirit and the factor of natural environment of places involved to each cities were reflected as the factor of civilized environment, organized that each element was united, and more sanctified the spirit of place step by step. This study has the meaning as first trial which comparatively analyzed city spaces of existent place of human life by new concept called imaginary environment. It may has the meaning that verifying the universality of imaginary environment involved to historical and cultural view of three Northeast Asian countries, however, there was limitation to examine specificity up to detailed elements of each city.

Nowaday special attention is being paid to the conservation of all species or ecosystmes of sites for public projects. Many environmental conservation policies and projects in Japan emphasize the coexistence of man with nature and close contact with nature. The objectives of this study was to investigate policies and projects for the creation of areas for the close contact with nature in Japan, to characterize change of techniques for the space creation over times, and to classify those policies and projects implemented by many government agencies. This study was mainly carried out by literature survey of laws, policies and projects related to environmental conservation pertinent to national scale. Major findings of this study can be summarized as follows: First, two most significant turning points for the environmental conservation in Japan were the establishment of the Office of Environmental in 1971 and the enactment of many laws influenced by the awareness of global environmental problems since 1990. Second, polices and projects for the creation of areas for the close contact with nature started in 1960s by the Office of Forestry, and focused on planting and development of simple facilities in forests. And the conservation of natural environment, ecological restoration and the expansion of urban green spaces, and the creation of biotopes and other areas for the close contact with nature in urban areas were the major characteristics of environmental conservation in Japan during 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, respectively.
The purpose of this study is to propose new systems for improvement of coastal landscape management in Busan area. The coastal landscape management systems in Busan are divided into urban planning sector, coastal management sector and environmental preservation sector without any comprehensive lay or integrated management system. These findings indicate that the coastal landscape is in need of integrated management in the form of coastal management rather than urban planning because coastal landscape os different from urban landscape by nature. The coastal landcape management ordinance which is based on the Coastal Management Ant should be established and the special zoning system for costal landscape management is to be set up under this ordinance. Then the comprehensive landscape plan for Busan coastal area and the design guidelines for each zone are mandatory. Also Busan city government and the district office must have a responsible department, experts and coastal landscape review committees.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the ponds which were artificially constructed around the castle gate of Han-yang, the capital in Chosun-Dynasty. In order to conduct the research on landscape history, it is necessary to have a field survey and to collect and analyze historic documents. But this study was based on the historic documents published in Chosun-Dynasty because no relics of ponds are found nowadays. There Tong-ji(eastern pond) outside of the East Gate, Seo-ji(western pond) outside of the West Gate and Nam-ji(southern pond) outside of the South Gate. They were constructed as lotus ponds and managed by the landscape management office, called Chang-weon-seo in the ministry of Industry. Tong-ji and Nam-ji were constructed according to geomantic principles. In case of Seo-ji, the situation of construction differed from Tong-Ji in some points. As for the shape of Seo-ji, it was a rectangular pond and had an islet in the middle where flowering plants had been planted. These ponds were enjoyed by the people lived in Han-yang because they were located near the street. Particularly, people in Han-Yang enjoyed the beautiful scenery of lotus flowers planted in the ponds.

As the local self-government are stabilized and the environmental value is becoming more important among local residents, the occurrence of the anti-movements against waste treatment facilities is getting more frequent. Opposing to build the reuse facilities of wastes takes place because of concerning of health and hygiene, as well as matters of unclear policy making process. However, these facilities must be built in somewhere for the convenience and profit of the public. The NIMBY phenomenon against reuse facilities of wastes could be a burden for the city operation system, and it could worsen citizens' quality of life in the long run. In these lights, reuse and recycling facilities of wastes in East region are necessary facilities improving citizens' quality of life and enhancing the growth of cities in the region. However, there have been concerning of deforestation during the construction process of the facilities. The landscape design presented here for these facilities considers the features of the environmental ecosystem and tries to establish a plan to preserve the natural environment of the City of Ichon. This paper presents methods minimizing adverse effects of the facilities on the existing environments and promoting the city image with integrating culture, tourism, landscape and environment of the city. The landscape design makes efforts to harmonize natural environments in the site, human activities and culture. Well-being park was aimed to lead healthy and energetic outdoor activities of local residents. Ecological park was aimed to enhance the ecological functions of the forests and restore the valley ecology. Culture park was aimed to capture the city identity by creating a place that contains all the variety of meanings of the City of Ichon.

This research studied the location and the spatial composition of Pihyang-jeong zone. Pihyang-jeong is regarded as one of the five great pavilions in Chollabuk-do. Located in Taein-myeon of Jeongeup-si, Pihyang-jeong is also called as 'the number one pavilion in Honam area'. 1. There is no record regarding the first construction of Pihyang-jeong. There is only transmitting by word of mouth that the scholar Choi Chi-won had an excursion to here and composed some poetry during the age of King Heon-gang of Shilla dynasty. However, there are records that Lee Ji-gweng had expanded the humble structure in 1618, Park Sung-go repaired it in 1664 and Yoo Geun repaired it again in 1715. 2. The location of Pihyang-jeong is 'high in north and low in south' and typical 'mountain in rear and water in front'. It has Seong-hwang Mountain(189m) in the north, Hang-ga Mountain(106m) in the south, Tae Mountain(33m) in the south and an open field in the northwest. 3. The spatial composition around Pihyang-jeong is as following. Pihyang-jeong faces 'Hayeonji'(the lower side lotus pond) in the south-south-west direction. 4. The buildings around Pihyang-jeong are; Pihyang-jeong, which was the pavilion of the government official not directly in charge of government office, Hambyeok-lu in the Hayeonji and the facility for the caretaker. Pihyang-jeong is a rectangular building with double eaves and hipped-and-gabled roof. It has five rooms in the front and four rooms in the side. Hambyeok-lu had been first built in 1918 as two-storey wooden pavilion with dancheong, traditional multicolored paintwork on wooden buildings. Then it was modified into rectangular single-storey pavilion with hipped-and-gabled roof and five rooms in 1971. In 2010, it was rebuilt as a hexagonal pavilion; therefore, the present shape is completely different one from the original shape. 5. The scenic features around Pihyang-jeong are as following. There are 21 stone monuments in Pihyang-jeong zone. The fence surrounding Pihyang-jeong is a traditional Korean style crude stone fence. There are three gates in three-gates-style, each gate made with two posts and one 'matbae'(gabled) roof. Also, a stepping stone for mounting/dismounting was found in the east of Pihyang-jeong outer perimeter. 6. The water scenic feature around Pihyang-jeong is a representative case of drawing in the water from the natural pond nearby government office and building a pavilion around the water. 7. The planting around Pihyang-jeong is as following. There are Zelkova trees in the boundary perimeter. In the southern small park, there are Zelkova trees, Crape-myrtie trees, Bushy young pine trees, Pine trees, Satuki, Purple azalea and Grass field. Around Hambyeok-lu in the Ha-yeonji, Elm trees, Zelkova trees and Pine trees are growing in good condition.

The purpose of this study is to identify whether the cranes had been bred in the palace of the Joseon Dynasty period and to consider the related cases. The temporal range of this study is in the Joseon Dynasty period, and the spatial range is throughout the entire palace, including the naejeon(內殿) and oijeon(外殿), and government offices inside(闕內各司) and government offices outside(闕外各司). The reference materials for this study were partly extracted and translated from the original documents to consider, and a Korean version of documents was used in the database of the Institute for the Translation of Korean Classics. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, the cranes were bred from the early Joseon Dynasty Era in Uijeongbu, the highest government office in the Joseon Dynasty period. After the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, crane breeding in Uijeongbu(議政府) seems to have been suspended due to the damage to the government building and the change in the status of the government office. Second, crane breeding in Hongmungwan(弘文館), which was responsible for the classics colloquium(經筵) and public opinions and assisted the king by the side, continued from the early Joseon Dynasty period(Jungjong's Era) to the late Joseon Dynasty period(Jeongjo's Era) after the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592. Third, in the Jeongjo's Era, the cranes were also bred in Gyujanggak(奎章閣), which was newly established as the central institution of learning to strengthen the royal authority. At that time, it seems that several cranes were bred in Gyujanggak. Fourth, it is judged that 'Crane breeding' in the core government offices of Joseon, such as Uijeongbu, Hongmungwan, and Gyujanggak, was meaningful as a symbol of identities, such as the status and character of the institution. Fifth, it seems that the cranes bred in the palace, including Hongmungwan, were conventionally brought by the Baecheon County of Hwanghae-do. This convention caused minor conflicts between the central and local government offices during the Yeongjo's Era, but it seems to have continued throughout the Jeongjo's Era. In this study, there is a limit that most of the studies were conducted based on local data. If further data discovery and translation outcomes are accumulated in the future, more abundant cases will be identified. The deepened follow-up studies are also needed, other than the cases of rearing cranes in the local government offices and temples.

The park program can adeptly cope with the diversification of leisure needs in accordance with the changing times. The program also makes the relationship between the users and the park itself closer. For this reason, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has operated a variety of programs, beginning with the Botanical Class Program at the Namsan Outdoor Botanical Garden in 1997. The government additionally began to organize park programs by establishing the Park and Leisure Department and three Park Greenery Offices. However, research on park programs is mainly focused on park users. Therefore, this study intends to reveal the structure of the programs by studying the program operation. The specific purposes of this study are '1. Review the institutional characteristics that underlie the operation of the Park Program in Seoul by examining the relevant laws, the operation organizations, and the personnel composition, 2. Analyze the operation methods, such as procurement and the execution of the program, operation costs, and public-private cooperation methods, etc. 3. Analyze the composition and contents of the program from 2015 to 2017, and process and identify the relationship between the structure of the program operation and the program itself.' Summarizing the results obtained from the study, as far as the structure of the first program operation, the support laws were not systematic, but the operating organization was working to establish a system. The second characteristic of the operation is that most of the budget was funded by local governments, but the level of citizen involvement was low. Third, when we looked at the characteristics of the program, the number of programs increased, but they were focused on a specific theme and few programs actively used the park facilities. Based on the results, three tasks can be proposed. The first is that the 'Act on Parks and Green Spaces' should include the concepts and support for park programs. Second, there is a need to change from the ideas of the quantitative increase of programs to qualitative improvements. Lastly, it is necessary to reorganize the Green Seoul Bureau of the Seoul Metropolitan Government into a citizen-led and leisure-oriented organization to promote the park leisure culture. This study has significance, as it was conducted with a service provider, not a program user, unlike many previous park program-related studies. The results of this study will be able to contribute not only to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, but also to other local governments to suggest the direction of the management and the operation of the park for the consumer, and consequently, it will help prepare the long-term vision of parks as the closest leisure location for most citizens.

Interest in weekend farming has been increasing recently among city-dwellers although it is still only in the beginning stages. Weekend farming has been increasing recently among city-dwellers although it is still only in the beginning stages. Weekend farms provide people with new activities and also help to preserve green areas within the city. It is necessary to understand what weekend farm users think and what problems they encounter in order to increase the use of these farms. For this reason, we studied 16 weekend farms in Seoul managed by the Rural Guidance Office and the Agricultural Cooperative. We distributed 24 questionnaires by hand and these were later returned by mail. The questionnaire asked weekend farmers about their motivation for using the farms, about their motivation for using the farms, frequency of use, level of satisfaction, current state of housing and the sort of plants they cultivated, among other things. We found that most of them live in apartments and have little access to green areas,. Weekend farm users were generally satisfied. However, they had a lack of gardening knowledge and reported that facilities such as toilets and water service were unsatisfactory. Political support is needed from the government in order to improve weekend farms. There needs to be a wider range of farm sizes and an increase in the uses of the farms. If these improvements occur, investment in and the development of weekend farming will increase and weekend farms will take root in Korea.
