  • Blade shape profile in the axial compressor is one of the most important factors governing its aerodynamic characteristics. Manufacturing tolerance, which is inevitable in the blade manufacturing processes, may change blade profile and as a consequence, it will affect the compressor performance. In this paper, influence of manufacturing tolerance on the aerodynamic characteristics of axial compressor blades with distortion of blade profile curvatures is investigated by using a flow simulation technique. It is found that manufacturing tolerance can be an important factor affecting the source of both profile and wake losses of the axial compressor blades.

  • The governing equation locating component centers in the degree-n bifurcation set is a polynomial with a very high degree and its root-finding lacks numerical accuracy. The equation is transformed to have its degree reduced by a factor(n-1). Newton's method applied to the transformed equation improves the accuracy with properly chosen initial values. The numerical implementation is done with Maple V using a large number of computational precision digits. Many cases are studied for 2 $\leq$ n $\leq$ 25 and show a remarkably improved computation.

  • Longitudinal distributions of the extinction coefficient and concentrations of hazardous gases in a long tunnel located in urban area haute been predicted theoretically. The results are compared with design criteria. It is found that the maximum concentrations of both CO and $NO_X$ in the tunnel are lower than the design criteria. However, the maximum extinction coefficient, generally considered to be a governing factor for ventilating flow rate, is shown lower than the design criterion. Therefore, it is suggested that the design criterion of the extinction coefficient should be increased to a slightly larger value.

  • This paper deals with experimental study on thermal characteristics that a cooling fluid is affected to ice ball as being measuring the temperature in storage tank and ice ball governing the rate of heat storage. Distributor was taken as inlet geometry factor. flow rate of cooling fluid which was a brine were 2, 4, and 6LPM, and 8, 10, and 12$^{\circ}C$ in the temperature difference for dynamic factors with respect to three ice ball types(103, 96, 76mm). In case of in flowing cooling fluid, since inertia force is suppressed by lower flow rate the amount of heat was transferred to ice ball by heat conduction high because density difference is high. And in case of larger ice ball, a long-term storage was available because reaching time at steady state is relatively long. consequently, smaller ice ball could be suitable to a short-term storage.

  • The fluvial phenomena in the bended natural river course are studied experimentally. Some theoretical and empirical conclusions were derived in prior to this study by some authors but the limitation of applicability of those results are not clearly known because of the sensitibitys of the flow regime in the reach. The main objective of this study is directed to evaluate the mechanism of sedimentation and the cross sectional changes in the equilibrium status. the most governing factor influenced to the cross sectional changes in the bended reach is the occurance of spiral flow. In this study, the streamlines and velocity distributions are checked at given interval by the hydraulic model to find out the place where spiral flow are existing under the various flow magnitudes.

  • Porous asymmetric membranes were prepared from polyetherimide polymer by the phase-inversion technique under different conditions. The performance of the membranes was tested for the removal of acetone vapour from nitrogen. A membrane which showed a high acetone permeability and a high selectivity was chosen and tested further for the separation of different organic vapours from nitrogen. The molecular structure of organic vapours and the selectivity were correlated. A strong correlation was also found between the chromatographic retention time of the organic vapour and the selectivity. These experimental results led to the conclusion that the sorption is the factor governing the separation of volatile organic compounds from nitrogen. A membrane was also prepared by coating the surface of a porous polyetherimide membrane with silicone rubber. The performance of membranes with and without silicone rubber coating was compared.

  • During concrete pumping, the migration and redistribution of particles occur in a pipe and the lubrication layer that forms between the bulk concrete and the pipe wall is the governing factor determining the flow behavior. In order to identify flow behavior of pumping, in this study, the viscoelastic properties related to the microstructural behavior of a flocculated suspension were examined by using dynamic oscillatory measurements. Cement paste is assumed to be a constituent material of the lubrication layer and ten cases of mixing design are employed by changing the proportions of mineral admixtures. The relationship between the yield stress obtained from the steady shear test and the dynamic modulus resulted from the oscillatory shear measurement was derived and the implications of the correlation are discussed. Moreover, based on the investigation of the viscoelastic properties with oscillatory measurements, the initial behavior of pumped concrete was analyzed systematically.

  • Large eddy simulation(LES) of fully developed turbulent pipe flow has been performed to investigate the effect of Reynolds number on the flow field at $Re_{\tau}$=180, 395, 590 based on friction velocity and pipe radius. A dynamic subgrid-scale model for the turbulent subgrid-scale stresses was employed to close the governing equations. The mean flow properties, mean velocity profiles and turbulent intensities obtained from the present LES are in good agreement with the previous numerical and experimental results currently available. The Reynolds number effects were observed in the higher-order statistics(Skewness and Flatness factor). Furthermore, the budgets of the Reynolds stresses and turbulent kinetic energy were computed and analyzed to elucidate the effect of Reynolds number on the turbulent structures.

  • This paper deals with a novel shunt circuit, which is capable of suppressing multimode vibration amplitudes by using a pair of piezoceramic patches. In order to describe the characteristic behaviors of a piezoelectric damper connected with a series and a parallel resistor-negative capacitor branch circuit, the stiffness ratio and loss factor with respect to the non-dimensional frequency are considered. The mechanism of the shunt damper is also described by considering a shunt voltage constrained by shunt impedance. To obtain a guideline model of the piezo/beam system with a negative capacitive shunting, the governing equations of motion are derived through the Hamilton's principle and a piezo sensor equation as well as a shunt-damping matrix is developed. The theoretical analysis shows that the piezo/beam system combined with a series and a parallel resistor-negative capacitor branch circuit developed in this study can significantly reduce the multiple-mode vibration amplitudes over the whole structural frequency range.

  • PCP adsorption experiment was carried out with six soils various in clay mineral and organic matter content and soil pH. The results were as follows; 1. The major factor governing the PCP adsorption is pH 2. The adsorption was increased with organic matter content at a certain pH 3. The adsorption was less related to crystalline clay mineral species.
